About the Episode:

Hey there, amazing listeners! In this episode, I got into this incredible conversation with Jillian Lambert, diving deep into women’s empowerment, self-discovery, and the importance of putting ourselves first.

We kicked things off exploring Jillian’s powerful retreats in Greece and South Africa. She’s all about helping women find their true selves. You know that scene in “Runaway Bride”? Jillian draws inspiration from that, urging us to discover how we like our eggs in the morning—metaphorically speaking, of course!

We delved into the challenges women face in prioritizing themselves. Jillian shared her experiences, highlighting how societal norms have historically put women second. It’s a narrative we’re both passionate about changing.

I couldn’t help but bring up my She’s Linked Up Accelerator Program. It’s all about supportive communities and empowering women to embrace new chapters in life. We know the struggle, and that’s why these programs are so crucial.

Jillian’s virtual offerings are a game-changer. From New Moon sessions to healthy habits journeys, she’s made self-care accessible to women worldwide. And get this—she’s offering a whopping 30% off her online sessions! That’s a huge step toward prioritizing yourself, and you don’t want to miss out.

It’s all about the power of connection and support. Jillian and I share this commitment to empower women and create spaces where growth and authenticity thrive.

Jillian Lambert 1:51
It’s such an honor to be here. I am really looking forward to chatting.

Karen Yankovich 1:57
Yeah, I feel like we have a lot of alignment in you know, starting in corporate and, and also the 22 year spiritual journey and just how that all into intertwines right into where we are today, you know, I don’t lead with the fact that, you know, I am a Reiki Master and I’m certified in dream coaching. But it is infused into everything I do. Right. And it is. It’s not something I do any anymore at all separately, but how can it not be infused into everything I do, right? So. And you know, what, like, 22 years ago, it wasn’t as, as baked in to our culture as it is today. Right? It was what really I remember when I first got Reiki certified. My kids were like, what is that? I’m like, it’s like the force, like, you know, like, Star Wars fans. Like it’s like the force, you have to just, you know, you just have to do you have to like learn to master the force, you know, because nobody even heard of it then. Right? Yeah. So tell me about your journey. Like I know, we heard the formal version of it. But what brought you from human resources to what you’re doing today. And then let’s talk about what you’re doing today. But what tell us a little bit about your journey.

Jillian Lambert 3:08
So I’m South African born and bred, and I was raised in a traditional middle class family and so many people that have been raised in the to me, maybe your audience will relate. Some people will relate to that where you raised you go through school, they need to get an education and you need to get a job. That’s what you do, rather than you retire. That’s that was the trajectory that I was born in. Yeah, I know, no reason to question it. So I went forth and did that. And then I moved really quickly through my corporate career, I never got married, I chose not to get married. And I chose to focus on my corporate career, because that’s what I thought I’m supposed to be doing. Right? That’s ticking the box. And then at the young age of 36, I was a director of one of the multinational companies that came to from the states to South Africa. And I was sitting in this huge office in this corner office, you know, as you had as a director, in those days, this big desk or this big chair, I felt a little bit like Goldilocks, like completely out of place. Everything was too big. I’m quite a small person. So everything was too big. And I knew that something was missing, ticked all these boxes, but I had this deep emptiness in me. And I don’t know if you can relate to that of anyone in the audience can relate to that where I was working hard. I was doing everything I need to be doing. I was getting accolades, and yet, it just was empty. I wasn’t satiated at all. And I decided then to take a leap. And I resigned, and I resigned to nothing. I didn’t have anything planned. And I just had no feeling that there was more so I jumped, and I left moved back down to Cape Town. Yeah. Wow.

Karen Yankovich 4:58
So what did you do?

Jillian Lambert 5:00
I spent the first year thank goodness for friends, I spent the first year working for a friend who had manufactured bedlinen. And I worked in her factory and kept myself busy and earned a tuppence of what I was getting in my previous role. And that took that year just to really, I guess, connect back to me as best as I could and go like, Well, what do I want to do? And then things started to unfold. Because of my experience, people started to ask me for advice on human resources in their businesses. So I started to consult and I started to create my HR business from there. And at the same time, my, I guess my spiritual inquiry into life began as well.

Karen Yankovich 5:42
Okay, okay, well, so what did that look like?

Jillian Lambert 5:47
Well, the portable, if I could call it that was yoga. And I had been, I’ve been doing yoga in my corporate career, because I had been told by my coach that I needed to have balanced, so I went off and did yoga. And because I’m very flexible, I could get away with being in class and doing all the moves without anyone thinking that I actually wasn’t present in class. So when I left corporate, I decided that I would really deepen my yoga practice, like, proper, like, do it properly. And I found the teacher close by to me. And that’s where I dived in. And I started to delve into the differential, the GIL that was on the yoga mat that didn’t have to be in a board meeting and doesn’t have to produce results. And who was out then if I wasn’t that.

Karen Yankovich 6:41
Right. Right. And then

Jillian Lambert 6:44
and then the journey began. And I think I mentioned to this to you, when I chatted earlier I chatted previously was I then went to Greece that following year, for the first time. And that was the real first time I went and I started to claim back these pieces of who I was, like the little jelly, the financially, the carefree Joe. And slowly but surely claimed those little pieces like mercury coming back together into the collective. Yeah.

Karen Yankovich 7:17
Cool. So eventually, you kind of spun a business around this right? You were so so how would you describe that, like, as you started to step back into the business world, because I feel like this is a journey. I know, I can relate to some of it. I never had the courage to just walk away from something, but because it takes a lot of courage and confidence in yourself, right? Proposal, I’m sure some planning and pre planning and, you know, having the resources to be able to do that, too. So when you started to work your way back into the business, what did you do?

Jillian Lambert 7:51
Well, I started with the mainstream traditional human resource stuff, because that was safe. It was easy. I knew it like the back of my hand, and I could make money, which was the most important thing that I needed to get an outcome. So I started to do that. And I built a business up I did consulting for various companies. And then from there, what I what I would say that that would be the transactional human resource stuff. So onboarding, recruitment policies, that sort of stuff in a bundle. And after a couple of years after sitting and learning practices and starting to meditate, I actually, I guess, the turning point now that you asked me this question is when I started to work with Estee Lauder, and Estee Lauder had a group of women only basically in their organization, and I started to work with women in business. And then things started to change around creating lifework balance. How do I bring my whole self to work when I have a family at home? Or how do I navigate this duality of being a leader and still being compassionate. So those elements started to come into what I was offering, and I started to blend them more and more in my training and my coaching and my team build facilitations in working with entrepreneurs and doing workshops with on top and yours, I started to build in much more of a balanced, I would say, set of skills, rather than it being purely transactionally focused. So there was a lot about helping people learn how to become an authentic, vulnerable, compassionate leader. That doesn’t make you weak. It makes you stronger, actually.

Karen Yankovich 9:40
Right. Exactly. Exactly. And you know what it takes that takes confidence, right? It takes confidence to understand that, that being able to say I’m not sure let me check it out. Or I can’t because of this that takes confidence right? So yeah, I love that you do talk about the the masculine and feminine feminine of all of us. because it can be it is always blended. Right. But it’s just a matter of having that confidence to be okay with that. Right. And, and, yeah, you know, something that somebody the women that I talked to and I know that listen to this that listen or not watch the show. If so they’re so brilliant. They’ve such expertise and they’ve got, you know, years of this, but yet there’s just roadblock, there’s these blocks in the way I’ve needed to be like this, or I need to be like that. Like, it was interesting when you said I ticked all the boxes. So I didn’t get married, and I dove into my corporate job. And here I was, like, I ticked all the boxes. I got married and had kids, you know what I mean? Like, so there’s, it’s interesting how everybody’s boxes are a little different, too. But, but what we’re doing is good. Maybe not for the right reasons. Right. Not that I for one second regret my kids. But but it’s it’s it. You know, this Donald’s on for the right for? I don’t know, I guess there’s there’s no right or wrong reasons. Right. But it was it’s being having the space. I feel like, I feel like what the spirituality does with all of this is it gives you the quiet of mind to kind of be more intentional about the choices that yes, yeah,

Jillian Lambert 11:09
exactly. Anyway, and I totally agree. There’s no, I don’t think there’s right and wrong. And I do my best to stay away from from that kind of vocabulary, even when I’m coaching and someone was like, Did I do the wrong thing? Or have I chosen the wrong decision. And it’s, it’s never about right and wrong, ever. It’s always about what pulled you and diving into that. And the more we do that, the more we can understand how we operate. Each of us are so unique, we so absolutely unique. And we know this scientifically, from our fingerprints and from our DNA. And we want to be we want to be like the power my gosh, it’s so true. And it’s like just be you. You magnificent. Just be you and do you. That’s all you got to do. And as soon as we move away from that, as soon as we move away from how am I supposed to be doing this, whether you’re parenting, whether you’ve been a wife, or whether you’ve been a partner, whether you’ve been a business owner, there’s no book written on the perfect model, right? You just be you. That’s the perfect model and follow that intuition. And I think that’s where that spirituality and I guess business sense merge them, because, of course, they’re business principles that make good business practices. And at the same time, there’s an opportunity for every single person to bring their uniqueness no matter what that is, no matter what they do.

Karen Yankovich 12:40
So I think, thank goodness. Right. And thank goodness. Yeah. So you’re still doing some of this corporate work, right? You still do work with corporations. But you also have you also stepping into a new? Or maybe it’s not new for you, but you stepped into another line of business. Right? So tell us a little bit about that.

Jillian Lambert 13:00
So I do, yes, so the corporate business is still very much there. And I work a lot now with boards and executives and teams around this kind of philosophy, to deepen trust, so that they can navigate more authentically the business world and more sustainably. And then, since 2011, my sister and I have been taking groups to Greece, the place that I went to, in 2005, to start unexpectedly claiming myself back, we started to as a side hustle for lack of a better word, take groups to Greece, I served as a yoga teacher, I do. I’m a near teacher, and we both have a toolbox of experience of modalities. And from last year, we decided to really notch this app and for it to become a real adult business. And because of that, now, we launching three retreats next year, we’ll still do Greece, Greece is our signature trip. And we do local retreats here in South Africa as well. So we will continue to do that. But we have taken it to the next level in terms of what we offering.

Karen Yankovich 14:08
So like tell us about the retreats, what are the intention of the of the retreats.

Jillian Lambert 14:14
So the intention across all three retreats next year, the commonality of it,

Karen Yankovich 14:21
and when you say next year, just in case, you’re listening to this in future, we’re talking about 2024?

Jillian Lambert 14:28
Thank you. Yes. So our intention for 2020 For retreats across all three of them. The commonality is we create a safe space for the participants to create space for themselves. And what we mean by that is, we’ll meet you wherever you at. There’s no There’s no entry requirements. So we meet you wherever you’re at whether you are a mom that is absolutely exhausted and just need to just sleep or whether you’re a business executive that needs face to think or whether you anything In between there just wants to have a good holiday, it’s organized well, where you can do what you want to do. That’s what we do we create a safe space for you to show up authentically with where you’re at. That’s number one. Number two is, yeah, number two is we have a framework or three, and each, each of them has a slightly different theme. And in there, we follow the motto of staying focused with the essence and free on the form. So we do not have an itinerary that gets eight o’clock on the bus, nine o’clock swimming tennis, we do not do that we create an organic space, we will do movement every day, that we can guarantee you and we offer that movement to all levels of a human being fitness and mobility. And in between that we then navigate what the group needs are, and we’ll do our teams or we’ll do workshops, or we’ll play in between so that runs across all the work we do those emphasis, the exciting thing for next year, and I know this is predominantly a woman’s show. But the exciting thing for next year is we offering space in the first retreat for people to come that are men and woman.

Karen Yankovich 16:17
Oh, that’s fine. Yeah, that’s exciting. Yeah, and

Jillian Lambert 16:21
the reason why we doing that is because we’ve done this for so many years, and we’ve had goddesses come a woman come four or five times, and they like, please get that come out with my partner and do something where I can share this joy of being in a Greek village with them. So the first one is a mixed gender. It’s called a taste of grease. And that’s exciting, it’s adventurous, it’s fun, it’s pretty light, we will do daily movements, and we’ll drop seeds of spirituality in but it’s not going to be very deep, and very focused on journey work, it’s going to be quite light. And then the second one is called awakening the Goddess within. And this is one for women who are wanting time and space to do an inner journey. And in there, we still go for outings. And we still have fun. And if you want to sip cocktails, at sunset, we still do all of that. And at the same time, we offer tools and practices where you can do some introspection, and go, where am I? What’s calling me? What do I need to heal? What has been asked of me. And that’s those two are both in Greece. And then the third one’s called nurturing the Goddess within and that one’s in Portugal. And the theme for that one, again, is for a woman who wants to dive deeper into understanding how they are in relationship with others. So it’s very much about nurturing the person in order for you to show up better in inverted commas in your relationships with friends, family, client, just, etc. Yeah, so they, there’s a thread that runs through all three of them. And then there’s a different focus for people that are looking for different things right now.

Karen Yankovich 18:10
Yeah, I you know what, it’s so interesting. You know, of course, as we’re moving into 2024, we’re coming out of years where we couldn’t travel to Greece and things like that. So how did that impact like debt? You know, so from the business perspective, right, you’ve got this business, this corporate business, but then and then this side hustle, would you call it but it also sounds like really a passion business as well. But hopefully a profitable one. Tell us a little bit about that journey was, you know, how did you manage the retreat business when people couldn’t leave their house, nevermind their state?

Jillian Lambert 18:43
So what we did is we have, we have just under 90 women that have joined us over the last Wow, top 15 Or how many weeks 23. From 2011. to Now, we’ve had about we’ve got 89 People actually that have joined us some once and some five times. So what we did when COVID hits is we obviously couldn’t do the retreat for us in South Africa. It affected us for 20 and 21, those two years. So what we did for our inner group, is that we did online events where we did a reunion online, we did workshop online, we connected online. And then both my sister and I started to do a lot more online work. So she took her yoga and who are you being acknowledged online? And I took my toolbox of wisdom online, whether its authenticity immersions, or behavior styles assessments. We actually just we just went online with the things we would do, you know, we kind of separated them out and made these smaller accessible modules, which is turned now into both of us continued business.

Karen Yankovich 19:54
Oh, great. It’s awesome. Well, it’s global,

Jillian Lambert 19:56
you know, global audience which is perfect. asked

Karen Yankovich 20:00
to Who are these retreats most suited for?

Jillian Lambert 20:04
So I would say that our main audience, our woman, except for that first week in Greece next year, are mainly women between the ages of 35. And up. So we’ve had women that are in their 70s come to Greece with us. And I would say they for women that are seeking a pathway to deepen their authenticity is the one area so we really have this yearning when people come they really want to understand who they are, and are often quote, There was a movie called Runaway Bride, I don’t know if you’ve ever watched it with Yes. And my famous my favorite favorite line of that movie that talks into this is right at the end, I think she got married three times or something. And right at the egg was right at the end was this, this clip around her finally trying to figure out how she likes her eggs in the morning, right? Because she had always just done it the way he wanted them. And I always say, Come and find out how you like your eggs, basically.

Karen Yankovich 21:13
Oh, my gosh, that’s amazing. You know, and can I just tell you this, I can still relate to that. And I think I’m sure many of the people listening are. And I’m thinking about, you know, which is one of the things I love about you offering this is that, you know, so many I hope, more women, I mean, my mission is for more women to to get clear on how they can support themselves, right. But even like my, you know, there’s never I feel like it’s always a journey. And even myself, like I am participating in something this year. That is so and I’ve committed is solely for my personal growth, but not my business growth, not my family, not whatever. And as I kind of felt into it to see, okay, do I want to do this or not? The feeling that I was feeling was completely not recognizable to me. And I was like, well, that’s not good. Do you know what I mean? If I don’t, even if I don’t even recognize this feeling of doing something just for myself, then all this is, you know, that is and you know, we need to change that, but it needs to change. So, you know, we see this, and I you know, I mean, my entire business is around supporting women not necessarily as much in their self journey, but in more in their business journey. But still, that’s it, I believe, solely that the work that I’m doing on myself is going to also support my business and my family and all the people and we’ve know this, I’ve probably said this 100 times, you know, put your mask on first on the plane, like we we intellectually know this, but making the space and the time and the investment for it. It just doesn’t happen. And I don’t know why that is so. So do you find that to be a challenge? Do you find that there’s women that are just such a perfect fit? And so in need of this, but are have a hard time making that decision to say yes,

Jillian Lambert 23:00
very much. So spot on. And it’s one of my favorite quotes that I that I use in my coaching as well is, can you disappoint others to be true to yourself. And that was one of my, what’s been one of my mantras my whole life. And what I’ve found, what I find is the generic and this is this will change depending on societies and communities and woman are, but I I’m going to generalize, which I don’t do often. But generally, because of how life has unfolded over the many, many centuries that we’ve existed in it. Women haven’t had the luxury of being on top of the list to make their choice first, we haven’t. Right, we have had to be second. We will you know, we all the way through to not voting all the way through all the way through to patriarchy. I’m not going to get into any of those debates.

Karen Yankovich 23:54
No, and I agree with you. And I honestly, and I watched that play out with people I know, during the pandemic, who they believe themselves to be and I believe them to be more awakened and feminist and I watched it happen where, you know, men had an office and got to close the door because they had to go to work. And women were taking their laptop in the car with them to finish their zoom call while they were driving their kid to school. You know what I mean? or to the right, like for some I watched it happen. And I was like, How is this still happening? And I know these people and I know that if I pointed it out to them, they would be a little blown away by it. Right. But yeah, it’s we’re still doing it. But

Jillian Lambert 24:34
um, yeah, that is the first answer to the question because that is and that is implicit and unconscious most of the time, all the way through. I mean, I can give you the example of and my sister won’t mind me sharing this because it’s part of the story of how we ended up doing our first retreat, but she had two youngsters, two young children at the time, and I called her from Greece in 2010. And I said, I’ve been called from powers above To do a retreat in Greece next year, and I need you to come and do the yoga and she did you crazy, I can’t, I just can’t. It’s impossible. Right? And I wiggled them found my way through it. And eventually, I got her to come by me, the only way I got it to come was to say to her and convince her that it was work. And she had to come because it was work, right? And then no other circumstances could that change happen in your brain in terms of, oh my God, how can I leave my children and what my partner say. And she went through Strife for years for making that choice of putting herself in that position. And this is the reality, when I have info sessions, like we do in an info session tomorrow night, and people come on the call, and I can guarantee it’s gonna happen again, tomorrow, when people say, it sounds wonderful, and it’s lovely, but I just can’t come. And when you dive into that, I just can’t come. It’s not about the money. And it’s not about the time it’s about, I don’t deserve to give this to myself. Right. So that’s, that’s the rule. Right? And when you coaching woman and business, the reason why this is so important, and you add would be interesting, if you find this is that when a woman comes to you and says I’ve got this product, and this is who I am, and this is what I’m doing. If there’s not complete alignment to her authenticity, the success rate will be different, I see that in the woman that I work with is that if they’re not aligning completely to who they are and what they offer, then it shows up energetically. But it’s this default, I don’t deserve this, I’ve got to be here for the children. And I’ve got to be here for my husband or my partner. And I’ve got to be here for the business. I started and, and I’m on number 5678 or nine on the list. That’s what it is. And we’ve got to get ourselves to the top of the list.

Karen Yankovich 26:47
Yes, yes. And it changes everything. So okay, so there’s, I’m sure there’s people, I hope I know this people are sitting going, I’d love that. And hopefully, so we’re gonna let them know, there’ll be links all over the place, and how you can connect with Julian and find out more about these retreats. But what about the people that truly just are not in a place right now? Where they can come to Greece or South Africa? Do you do anything? Virtually?

Jillian Lambert 27:07
Yes. So there’s, there’s a range of options virtually. There’s a couple of free options that I do. The one is the standard New Moon intention setting session, I do every new moon and it’s online. And you don’t have to have a video, you just it’s a 45 minutes for yourself. And I do that in the evenings in South Africa. So I think for a lot of your audience, which should work the next

Karen Yankovich 27:33
day in here in New Jersey, in the US. So that how people find out about those.

Jillian Lambert 27:38
Those are all on my website, Julie Lambert’s dot co.za is my website, there’s all on there. And then I’m going to be launching my calendar for next year where there’s a variety of other things that will suit time and budget. So that’s everything from I do 21 Day journeys, in the beginning of the year, I do a healthy habits journey. And that’s great, we have a global community, it doesn’t take a lot of time and energy, that’s a free offering I give. And then people get to know me. And if they like me, then they can start journeying with me on different things. So you don’t have to be able to fly to Greece or Portugal, have a look at my website, see what calls you reach out to me, Are there lots of different options that you can join me in on a online platform,

Karen Yankovich 28:24
and you have a gift for our listeners for those online? Work? I do not tell us about that.

Jillian Lambert 28:30
So because you’re so far away, and I doubt you’ll be flying to South Africa in the near future. I’m happy to offer all your listeners the 30% of my paid offerings for next year that are online. So my online offerings, which are unfolding when the calendar comes up, feel free to use the code that you’re going to share just now. And you can get 30% any of those. And honestly, I think that everybody needs to do this everybody that listens, you know, certainly listen, you know, my entire business really is lifting women up and wanting there to be more wealthy women in the world because I think women with money can change the world and they can make choices like I’m going to Greece and I’m going to pay somebody to bring food into my family for the week while I’m in Greece. Right? So whatever whatever that is that’s holding them back. So I you know, at the heart of all of that though, is are you are you feeling supported? So I want to just talk for one minute about our our program or she’s linked up accelerator program is the program that is the it’s the place to get going in our program because we fully support women to learn how to step into these new identities. So many of the women And listening to the show and that we support are really reinventing themselves to post pandemic, just as they step into their new chapter. And we want to help them not just reinvent themselves, but rise up while they’re doing that and, and know that there all of this is there for them. Right if they can, and it’s not just about, you know, I give them strategies all day long, you can give them strategies all day long, but the strategies alone are going to just keep them stuck, right? Like look behind me, I got 50,000 books in my house and if books changed my thought my life I wouldn’t need another one. Right? It’s the it’s the one too it’s the talking to people is the energy work is the energetics is the the vibe that surrounds you that that changes everything and retreats like Jillian offers and programs like our she’s linked up accelerator program, are the kinds of things where these are groups of women that are committed to doing this. And do we get together? Right? Do we get together and not being like a feeling like a lone wolf or not feeling like, they don’t know where to get started, we know how to help you get started. So if you want to know what that looks like, just go on over to Karen yankovich.com/call. Again, all these links are in all the notes, wherever you’re listening or watching to this. Just go on over to Karen yankovich.com/call. And you can grab a spot and you get to hang out with people and D our mutual beautiful, amazing person is the first person you meet because she supports all of our, our clients in our on our students in just making sure that they are DS whole role in my business is to make my clients happy. Like that’s it. Yeah, that’s what she does. Yeah, because so many women are not going to ask for that help. So we like proactively make sure they’re getting the support that they need. So Jillian, thank you so much for being here today and doing this with me. About the Episode:

Are you buckled up and ready to dive in? Because this is episode 263 of the Good Girls Get Rich Podcast, and I’m your host, Karen Yankovich. And let me tell you, we have a fresh twist for you, folks! This is our first official video version, providing a thrilling segment of engagement lined up for all our rich girls out there.

Our special guest today is none other than my good friend and esteemed colleague, Dr. Tanya English, a woman with a thriving journey of over three decades in the healing world. Starting as a massage therapist, evolving into a chiropractor and now shining as an energy healer, Tanya is a force to reckon with. She’s passionate about unearthing this inbuilt power we all have to heal ourselves, and I’m equally thrilled to help bring this knowledge to you.

Dr. English employs the unique Blue Note Healing toolkit to unlock this self-healing power and educates people about ways to leverage this potential for their overall wellbeing. Her finesse lies in the Bioenergetic Synchronization Technique, meticulously pinpointing and nullifying negative physiological patterns that hinder the body’s inherent healing ability. As a versatile energy healer, analyzing individual energy patterns is her sweet spot, identifying and clearing energy blockages that interrupt your full vibrance of life.

I’ve had my fair share of twists and turns, juggling the complexities of health challenges, sudden shifts, and work obligations. And that’s where Tanya’s role in my life has been instrumental. But guess what? She doesn’t just address bodily discomforts, but pulls apart the underlying emotional textures that define women’s health.

Speaking about her work, Tanya underscores that each emotional state carries a unique physiology, and getting ensnared in the negative ones impacts our overall health. Circle back to our conversation, it’s a wrap with a gentle nudge for all you women out there about self-care. It’s pivotal, and it often slips through our checklist.

Hello, hello, everyone. I’m Karen Yankovich. And I am the host of the good girls get rich podcast. And this is episode number 263. And it is, it is it goes down in history as our first official video version of his podcast as well. So if you’re listening to this and all your normal podcast places, you’ll get all the same things you always get. But you can now also watch this on YouTube. And wherever else I just had to share it. So. So the format is a little bit different because we are doing this on video. And I am excited to be here with my colleague and friend, Tanya English and Dr. Tanya English has been working for over 35 years in the healing field first, as a massage therapist, then as a chiropractor and energy healer, Dr. English has been inspired by the idea that we’ve been born with the power to heal. Her mission is to show people that they have tremendous power healing power within and that they can use that power for the highest good. Dr. English uses Blue Note healing methods to help others unlock that healing power and then educate so that people can use those techniques for themselves. And for the good of others. She’s a master of bioenergetic synchronization technique, which works on the subconscious level to dissipate negative physiological patterns that keeps the body from healing. She’s also an energy healer with the ability to look into the energy pattern of an individual and discern and remove energy blockages that keep one from their fullest expression of life. And I have got to experience all of this personally, as well as professionally with with Tanya. So Tanya, I’m so excited to have you here. Thanks so much for being here with us today.

Tanya English 1:28
Well, thanks for having me, Karen. It’s a pleasure to be the first video.

Karen Yankovich 1:31
Yeah, it’s exciting, right? It’s exciting. Oh, he’s trying new things. We’ll see if we continue with this. Oh, he’s trying new things. But, you know, um, can I tell the audience a little bit about how that works, not necessarily how we met, but how we ended up coming to me coming to you to say, yeah, so share. Yeah. So Tanya, and I were working to have been working together for a while. And I had in the beginning of 2023, I just had this craziness going on in my life. I had, you know, family challenges, and I just last minute decided to move and all this crazy, crazy craziness. And trying to hold it all together and trying to be there for those people. And oh, by the way, run my business, right. So I was on call with Tanya, and she was talking about how the kinds of ways she helps people. And we were kind of collaborating on how she can bring that to more people. And in my head, I’m going, I need this, I need this personally, because, you know, as a mom and a daughter and a partner and all the things, you know, I I genuinely want to be there for people. But I also want to be there for you for for the podcast listeners for my clients and for the people that invest in me and because right now you’re investing your time with me, even if you’ve even if you haven’t given me your credit card, you’re investing your time with me. And I take that seriously. And I just felt like I wasn’t showing up. And by the way, I had COVID the very end of December. So I was doing all this, like two weeks after I had first I had been diagnosed with COVID. I was testing positive for like, I think 12 days, you know, so I was exhausted is not like it’s not the word. So I reached out to tiny because I know that what she does is she What I love about your bio, Tanya, is that you help people heal themselves, like you understand that it’s in there. And I knew that but I couldn’t access that. Right. So I haven’t even let you talk yet. But I wanted to let everybody know kind of set the stage for how important I think as entrepreneurs, especially if we are shifting, you know, maybe you’re shifting from corporate to entrepreneurism or you’ve got a new chapter ahead of you. We taking care of ourselves. There’s nothing more important than that. And as women, that’s not always our first instinct, right? So tell us a little bit about you what brought you to want to do this work.

Tanya English 3:50
So the women in general, right, we put ourselves on the back burner, that means we’re simmering all the time back there. And eventually what happens is either all liquid dries up, and it burns or something goes off and we have to pay attention. That’s the thing that happens, burnout or something goes wrong, and we have to pay attention. And paying attention means putting our attention on actually taking care of ourselves. You know, this year for me has been like that, too. I came up with a couple of things that are happening in my physical body and I’m going okay, well, I’ve been doing so well. Why why is this happening? Because I want to take care of other people. That’s what I love to do. Taking care of myself, okay. All right, I have to get pretty serious about this. So, you know, doing the same old thing really wasn’t working for me either. And so I had to do new things and like, get outside my comfort zone because that’s where the new things are, right? So it makes a difference when you actually put attention on your intention, then there’s no tension

Karen Yankovich 5:00
Whoo, that’s a great line. That’s a great line. Look it up. We’ll definitely we’ll definitely be sharing that line when we promote this episode. Yeah, so but you know, one of the things I love the most about your tiny is that you come to this place of healing with you know, of committed being I have a commitment to being a healer, with not just the right brain energetics, but the left brain training, right, you are trained and, and certified. And whatever you call a certification

Tanya English 5:29
chiropractor, I’ve been practicing for over 30 years chiropractic, I was a licensed massage therapist before that. So I’ve been studying anatomy and physiology all those years. That’s what we do, we learn about the thing that we’re working on. The other thing that I learned that I study is what’s influencing that, because we’re not just the sum of our parts, was more than that. And so that more than that part is the part that I’m really interested in, because that’s what’s influencing the physical. So in chiropractic, chiropractic philosophy, one on one is remove interference from the nervous system, the body heals, why the nervous system, because it’s the communication network for the whole entire body. And beyond, I’ll say that, because we’re getting there. Yeah, if you remove interference from the nervous system, then the feedback loops that happen can be like, in reality, they’re getting the right signal, if there’s interference, and we call that a bone pressing on a nerve, so that the nerve gets either too much information or not enough, then that organ at the end of the nerve, whether it’s a muscle or a liver, or, you know, whatever it is, that’s not getting the proper information. So it’s all about communication and dialing down the static so that the signal comes in clearly. So here’s the other part of that. Not only do we have this physical part, but our emotions and our feelings are how we interact with the world. And every single emotion that we have every feeling that we have, has its own physiology. So would you agree that happiness is a little bit different than bliss? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And that piece is a little bit different than calm. Yes, kind of synonyms, but they are a little different. That’s why we have different words for them. Hmm, I like that. And every time you have a feeling, whether it’s regret, or shame or blame, it has a different physiology and those physiologies, those negative ones that I just talked about, can get stuck running over and over and over. And the reason why they get stuck is because they happen with intensity, or they happen chronically over and over again. So the body memorizes the pattern and goes, oh, I’ll just do this now. So talk about your body and your cells, like it’s another entity because it makes it easier for me to relate concepts. But your body only knows two parts. It only knows two modes, really, it knows survive and not survive. So if it thinks it’s in not survive, it’s going to do whatever it has to do to survive. So it memorizes and that pattern becomes subconscious. Now you don’t have to think about it anymore. It just happens. The example I’ll give you is like, if you’re driving to the grocery store, are you thinking about driving? Are you thinking about what you’re gonna get a store? Right, the driving is subconscious. That doesn’t mean you’re not

Karen Yankovich 8:45
looking at how many times have you arrived someplace and barely remembered how you got there, right? Yeah,

Tanya English 8:49
yeah, exactly. And so you know, it, we don’t realize that we’re creating these patterns, but the emotional pattern gets created to and when that’s overriding what’s happening presently, when that pattern is overriding present time, we call that a subconscious emotional memory override, we call the c mo for short, subconscious emotional memory override. Your body is doing this emotional pattern that it’s supposed to do physiologically, and it’s overriding present time. So when I’m doing muscle testing with people, and I say hold your arm out, and I’m going to press on it, and when I say hold, you hold your arm there and I can push their arm down, and I can get it from here to here. That means the body’s going Yeah, yeah, I’ll be with you in a second. I’m kind of busy. What? Yeah. And we can do that online as well. I use a surrogate for that. So I’m not actually touching the person that I’m online with, but I have a surrogate that I use for that. And it works really, really well to help people understand. My body isn’t impressed. that time because in present time I said, Yes, I’m gonna hold my arm. Right. And and so the thing that I teach people when I’m working with them online is how to do muscle testing for themselves. How to do how to find a yes or no is my body mind spirit in agreement with the statement? I forgive myself for allowing this to affect me negatively? No, it’s not an alignment. Right?

Karen Yankovich 10:24
How many you know, I mean, gosh, I can probably think of 100 things that have happened. I gotta say to me, for me, or, or I experienced, maybe things that I’ve experienced in my life. That could be some of those energy blocks, some of them more intense than others, but some of the little ones that don’t seem like a big deal. But if you’re still in my head, right, they’re there for a reason. What if

Tanya English 10:45
it’s happening when you’re pre verbal? Before he knows what is happening in utero? Yeah. What if it’s happening, generations back? So the work that I do, I can clear that stuff, generations back lifetimes, generations, it really doesn’t matter. If you believe in past lives, what matters is the story that’s coming out of you. Right? So when I’m reading people’s energy, intuitively, that means I’m picking up their vibration, and I’m translating it into words that I can relate back. When I’m doing that intuitive energy scanning, then I can tell the person here’s where I see this as blocked. And that’s what we need to work on first, second, third. So we get that idea of,

Karen Yankovich 11:31
it’s so important. You know, I don’t know if I ever mentioned this to you. But I saw one time, something that said there is a part of you that remembers being in utero. Absolutely. Like, gosh, like, That’s so crazy. Could you think of your mother and right? You don’t really imagine yourself inside of her, right? Like what you were. And I’ll

Tanya English 11:50
tell you a story when my sister and her daughter were traveling somewhere. And she said, Oh, that’s when I was the mom and you were the baby. And she was about three or four years old at the time. So she had forgotten all this stuff yet, right? And then she said, Oh, yeah, that’s where the rainbow came out of my belly, the umbilical cord. That’s where the rainbow came out. Wow. Yeah. Pretty amazing. So when you’re talking to little kids, like three or four years old, they’re verbal, they can tell you can ask them questions, see what happens. Sometimes they remember sometimes they don’t I have a client who remembers three of his past lives. Like, wow.

Karen Yankovich 12:29
Wow, interesting.

Tanya English 12:30
You know, people are fascinated.

Karen Yankovich 12:32
I talked about this forever. But let’s talk about how it

impacts us today. Right. So, you know, when you’ve got that, you know, you talk about the fact that these are energy blocks in your lives right now. Right? And I know that a lot of the work you do is around grief. Right? And we’ll talk about this for a minute because we at least me, I can speak for myself, I feel like I try to compartmentalize, you know, and I know that there’s only so much I can do about that. But you know, you’re you came to this work with grief around stillbirth and pregnancy loss. And no matter how I you know, have not experienced that, but I can imagine that that doesn’t go away. You know, that is just such changes part of who you are, you know,

Tanya English 13:12
it changes and so, you know, I talk about it very freely and openly because this is the thing is like, it’s stillbirth. People don’t talk about it. And then you have that happens to you and people start coming out of the woodwork. Oh, yeah, that happened to me. Yeah. But see, we don’t talk about it very much. Now. Nowadays, everybody’s talking about everything. So you can find a podcast on it. Right. But right. What I’m saying is that people don’t know how to talk about grief in a way that is uplifting. Now, here’s the thing. This is a big picture, kind of look at it. And you have to decide, are things happening to me? Or are they happening for me? That’s a big leap for a lot of people.

Karen Yankovich 13:52
It is a big leap. And it’s one of the questions I hate the most. I get it. I mean, I when I say I hate it, I don’t hate it, I get what you’re asking it. When people ask me it. I’m like, Oh, God. So I know. I know. Like, it’s happening to me, like, I want to be all like victime around that, right? I know that actually, I know that’s not supposed to serve anybody right

Tanya English 14:12
now. The whole idea of that you’re responsible for everything that happens in your life. I mean, it’s not your life that I’m living here and it’s mine. So I’m responsible for what happens in my life, right? Responsible doesn’t mean blame and shame. Okay, this is where this starts to get. People’s people’s boundaries are fuzzy on this because they’ve been taught, don’t talk about yourself. You’re not worthy. You don’t measure up this is the stuff that we hear, like, you got an A minus, why didn’t you get an A plus? What’s wrong with you? Right? This is stuff that I hear from my patients and my clients. Like, if nothing was ever good enough, I couldn’t get anybody’s attention. And here’s the thing, it’s like it, it compounds as you grow because now you’re going well, I’m never gonna have that happen again. So you’re reacting about what didn’t happen. And then you say, Well, I’m never going to do that to anybody else. Now you’re still reacting about what happened. It’s not about this reaction thing that we have. And I was just talking to a guy the other day, he goes, everyone I meet how some negative aspect of my mother and I said to him, Have you forgiven your mother and it stopped him dead in his tracks? He was like, Oh, I said, we could work on that.

Karen Yankovich 15:27
Yeah, because listen, I, you know, I, as a hero of us, of course, I can relate to a lot of it. And there’s a part of me that thinks, like, let’s just use the, as something that’s not quite emotionally charged, like the a minus and a plus. Right? Which is emotionally charged. For some people. I get that right. But for what? Absolutely. Right. But wouldn’t it absolutely suck from the every bottom of every heart, that that moment in your life was interfering with your success today? Yeah. And like a met? Like that’s where that’s the part that I think that’s the importance of the work that you do. Like, these are the things like we’re trying to, we think we’re over them, or we think we’re past them. And then, you know, like, I can think about, you know, I’m divorced. And I can think about the challenges I have with my ex husband in Good grief, Dwight, here’s the last person on Earth, I want to be in the way of my successes today. Right, like so. So this is such important work, because it’s easy for me to say, No, I’m done. I’m over that. And

Tanya English 16:28
I’ll tell you what happens when you do that. When I just was working with a relative of mine the other day on this? And I said, Have you dealt with this situation? What happened five weeks ago to you? He doesn’t I had a really bad situation with somebody who I used to look up to. But I don’t talk to him anymore. So I’ve dealt with it. Oh, no. No, you have, right, right? When you decide that you’re going to cut somebody out of your life, that’s a loss. That’s grief, and you haven’t dealt with it just because you decided you’re not going to talk to them anymore. So

Karen Yankovich 17:02
they’re experiencing energy blocks in those cases like so we know that these people have we are having energy blocks, right? How are we experiencing those energy blocks as

Tanya English 17:11
grief that is not that you’re not able to get over as the recurring thought that keeps saying to you, you should have said this, you should have said that you should have done this, this all this shutting and on yourself and other people, it comes out as reacting to something in present time and the reaction doesn’t match it like getting really upset over something that has nothing to do with what’s going on at the present time. Because at the present time, somebody didn’t put the right spoon on the table. Right. But you freak out, as people like to say, and you have and you go off the off on a tangent and get so upset. This is another indication that something’s wrong. If you’re crying all the time, if you’re there’s so much grief in there and you can’t let it out. I just wrote a text to somebody who hurt me seven years ago, and I went, you know what, this is still hurting me. And I’m done. I’m going to tell you what you did. And here’s what happened. And, and it was a cathartic for me. I don’t really care what they thought, but I needed to get it out. And so that’s what I did. And it wasn’t like they didn’t care. But it’s not. It’s not about them. It’s about me. And I understand what people say like, Yeah, but it’s just so selfish. It’s not selfish. What you’re doing is taking care of yourself. This stuff has been brewing head

Karen Yankovich 18:36
is such a dynamic right there taking care of yourself is not selfish is something we all should be saying.

Tanya English 18:42
I told somebody recently, I said, Well, what I really do is help people love themselves better. Love themselves more. And she said, Well, that sounds narcissistic. I said, Well, narcissism is me telling you how great I am. That’s narcissists. Right? That’s not the same as loving yourself. Loving yourself as treating yourself like you would treat your best friend. Like, would you would you lie to your best friend? Right? Would you to keep telling them? Oh, it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it. Right? Because what’s gonna come back out of that you don’t understand. This is a big deal to me. And they would go Oh, yeah, just forget about it. And you’re like, No, that’s that’s not I can’t see you can’t forget things. You can forgive them, and then they don’t have power over you anymore. Like, the reason why I wrote that yesterday, right? I don’t want to to have power over me anymore. So I said, here’s what happened, and I’m not interested. And that those kinds of things. When you’re ready to do that, you’ll do it. You’ll do it. And it’ll be like, Oh, I looked at that burden. One of the things that I do with people is I go in and we find out where those things are, and it’s totally subconscious. So you can’t do it yourself. Right? You can’t find out what you’re saying. Consciousness doing yourself unless you have a lot of training on how to do that, which I can train you how to do that. But it’s really important that you have another set of eyes. We’re not meant to do this by yourself. Right? So

Karen Yankovich 20:13
it’s so important, you know, we’re two or more gathered

Tanya English 20:15
there I am also that’s what sources, right? So when we come together, then we can both relay what we’re getting, and have it mean something. So

Karen Yankovich 20:26
how else I’m gonna say I’m assuming by like, kind of what you did with that text is one way of just kind of like stopping the negative patterns that are happening, right? What are other ways we can stop the negative patterns that are happening in our

Tanya English 20:37
lives? Well, I’ll teach you one right now. And that’s four count. Breathing is so simple. Okay, so it’s really simple. And if you just follow along with me in the next 32 seconds, you’ll feel different. So let’s do it. Let me ask you, and anybody who’s watching or listening to this, put where do you are in your mind? Where are you are on your stress level right now? It’s the day before Thanksgiving, we’re doing this. So there’s a lot of people that are stressed.

Karen Yankovich 21:04
Hey, so are you in a one to 10? I’m an eight. Yes,

Tanya English 21:08
she’s an eight. Okay, good. So, we’re going to do this breathing exercise. And in 32 seconds, that number should come down. So let’s do this. So exhale all your breath out. And breathe in to a count of 41234 Hold it in 1234, exhale through your nose. 1234 hold it out. 1234, inhale, 1234 Hold it. 1234 exhale, 1234, hold it out. 1234 breathe normally. Okay, how do you feel,

Karen Yankovich 22:02
I definitely feel a little better. I definitely feel a little better.

Tanya English 22:05
Maybe you’re seven now. And then maybe

Karen Yankovich 22:07
even maybe even a six. Because I can’t let myself get worked up. And part of that what I needed to do in that moment was just unwind a little.

Tanya English 22:15
And you’re not. And here’s the thing, a lot of people think if they unwind, like you said, they’re going to completely unwind, right, like, you’re gonna be left as a puddle on the floor. That’s not gonna happen, right? It’s not gonna happen, you’re still going to be you. This isn’t some kind of mind trick. It is in the sense that you’re taking over a subconscious pattern breathing, you’re doing it consciously. It’s the one thing that connects you to life. You can live without food for days, you can live without water for a while, for minutes without breathing your day. So you’re connecting yourself to life, you’re putting that intention in there that I’m I’m about to calm down. And this is going to balance fight or flight and rest, digest and heal. So when you go into a fight or flight pattern, blood pressure goes up, breathing goes up, eyes dilate, all these things happen, your bladder control might be gone, right? You might faint because all the blood goes to your periphery, and you fall over and faint. Your body’s doing that so that it will start breathing again and be normal. So your body’s going to take over when you’re in trouble. Okay, so that’s fight or flight response. If you just let that happen and you don’t do anything about it, it takes hours to come out of that. That’s why EMT workers have a 10 year shorter life expectancy.

Karen Yankovich 23:37
Wow. Wow.

Tanya English 23:40
So when you’re doing something that actually actively brings you back to rest, digest and heal, like for count breathing. There’s other things too, that this is the easiest one to show you in this rectangle here. So when you do that, you’re telling your body I’m listening. I’m taking this time and I’m going to do it and that was 32 seconds Come on. Wow. That’s whales in traffic.

Karen Yankovich 24:06
Right I get that I get that. Alright, so I don’t want to spend a ton more time because we’re we’re getting close but I do want to ask you quickly though. I know a big part of the work you do is founded in music. So tell us a little bit about that. Why music and how does that impact all the

Tanya English 24:22
Blues as a healer and I love blues music and have always loved it since the first time I heard Muddy Waters. Sing manage boy Oh, this is different.

Karen Yankovich 24:36
Tanya is a Jersey Shore girl even though she’s not there now. So Tanya, and I can relate when she says that I picture you know I picture like I can almost imagine where you were when you heard that song.

Tanya English 24:48
Well, it was it was a long time ago and I moved to the Iowa to go to chiropractic college Iowa borders. One of the borders is the Mississippi River. The other borders the Missouri River. All right. And so we’re between these two rivers and Mississippi River Vic’s biter back is from Davenport, Iowa. That’s where chiropractic was born is the only place on the Mississippi where it travels east to west. So we call it where, where the Mississippi is subluxated. That’s where chiropractic was started. And so lots of blues music in this area, and lots of blues musicians and I met a bass player turned out to be my husband, and bass

Karen Yankovich 25:30
players, I get that. Just some about those bass players.

Tanya English 25:34
Yeah, you know, there’s some really good jokes about that. But anyway, so I met him and and when I was starting chiropractic college, and as I was working my way through, he was playing in a blues band. And we were going to the blues fest, which is right there on the Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa. We went to the blues fest. We were there at the same time we met the next week. And the rest is kind of history. But at the end of my time at Palmer Chiropractic College, I was pregnant, and we were waiting for our son to be born. And things took a turn. And he was still born. And so I said that I know this is important for me to pay attention to because as a healer, first of all, I had a lot of questions about how could this happen. And second of all, show me what I need to know so that I can help more people through something like this. And because I’m a student and observer, as well as the participator. And we I said just put me where I need to be for healing to happen. And so we were at the blues fest that summer. And I said I want to go in and see the blind Boys of Alabama, because I’ve heard them so much. And I want to see them in person. So I went to the 10 stage Edwin to the main stage to watch the band he wanted and I had a healing like, no, no other in that performance that day. I mean, I felt waves and waves of love, just washing through me, surrounding me. I felt so loved it was out and that was there were strangers I had no I didn’t know anybody there. It was amazing. And so, as that experience happened, I came back out we met in the middle between the two stages. And he looked at me he goes, Are you okay? And I said, Oh yeah, I’m really, really okay. Because I knew in my knower in my nowhere in my heart that I was being held in love. That love was surrounding me. And that I was supported by the love that was there for me. And there was more than that. So I got this really major sense of how much love there is. Fast forward. So went through that experience. I have lots of stories about that, as was very intense experience. And as we were moving through I also had another son after that he’s now 27. And we had to I had two bonus daughters Ed’s from his previous marriage that lived with us. And as that happened when they were growing up and moving away, we started our blues band. And I was singing with his band every so often. And then people were like, Why aren’t you guys doing a band together? So about 13 years ago, we started the tiny English band. And we’ve been playing all around and ended up on stage at Kingston mines with Joanna Conner once and I mean just amazing things I’ve played at the Mississippi Valley blues fest now twice, bringing healing with the blues, right back to the stage where I had my healing experience.

Karen Yankovich 28:50
That’s amazing. Talk about like a full of it. When

Tanya English 28:53
you have full circle moments like that in your life, your life is magical. Wow. It was just the most amazing experience. And then my friend Gloria Hardman, alligator recording artist, alligator records. She said, Well, I’m best friends with Jimmy Carter, not the president, the last remaining original blind Boys of Alabama. Okay. And she said, I want I told him your story, and he wants to meet you. And we went and have dinner with them before show

Karen Yankovich 29:21
makes me that brings tears to my eyes.

Tanya English 29:23
It was just amazing. As amazing. That’s amazing.

Karen Yankovich 29:27
I did not know that. That’s incredible. So

Tanya English 29:29
So I had dinner with them and just hung out you know? No biggie. Hang out with those guys. That’s the

Karen Yankovich 29:37
leg. Okay, so that’s the life you step into though, when you just open yourself up to possibility. Absolutely. Part of everything we talked about here on this show. That is you know, like, I want everybody listening to be have that moment of this is my life. How cool is that? Right? Like, yeah, that 30 years

Tanya English 29:54
from the day and I met we’re on stage at the Mississippi Valley blues fest. Wow. 30 years, it was unbelievable. And then last will winnaman. This September, they came back to the blind Boys of Alabama came back to the area. They’re friends with friends here. So we went and had dinner with them, had a great time went to the show that night, had a great time, they were opening for Robert Cray, awesome, awesome. And just being able to have those kinds of connections with people. And it turns out their road manager Chuck and his brother Ricky, who’s in the who’s a singer in the group live in the neighborhood next to my son, Sam and Atlanta. Like wow.

Karen Yankovich 30:39
So this is so this music now is just infused in everything you do all of the healing that you do, you have almost coined the phrase healing with the blues, right? And that’s a big part of healing. Go there. Yeah, we’re we’re gonna put links to all that in all the places. So you have a place where people can experience your work personally with this powerful personal affirmation PDF and audio. Right, so we’ll put a link, can you tell us a little bit about that?

Tanya English 31:04
Yeah, the the thing that will start the ball rolling is if you start telling yourself what you really want, telling the universe what you really want, and writing it in present tense, writing it down, not typing it, writing, it makes a difference. You’re transmuting, that energy of what you’re thinking about that brings you joy, hope, love, excitement, anticipation, expectancy, those are all the things that will bring stuff into your life. So if you’re expecting presents for your birthday, that feeling like I know it’s gonna be great. And you’re counting how many sleeps until you get your presence. That kind of anticipation is what’s bringing things toward you. Right? So it’s easy for you to do.

Karen Yankovich 31:54
So we’ll put a link to it. God, doing

Tanya English 31:57
the personal powerful affirmation means you’re writing it about yourself, you’re not taking somebody else’s words and making it you’re making it yours and important that it take you through the exercise of what you’re going to do, you can get the audio, you can get the PDF, you can read it, and you’re going to be able to see what is most important to you. Awesome, awesome, then repeat it and repeat it, repeat it and tap on it. And all those things.

Karen Yankovich 32:27
Definitely do that. Definitely do that. So I’ll put a link in all the places underneath in the show notes here. But also, I will create a link if you go to Karen yankovich.com/dr. Tanya will, it’ll take you right to that page too. So you can get if you’re listening to this in the car, just go to Karen yankovich.com/dr. Tanya, and it’ll take you to that place. About the Episode:

Wow have my views on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital marketing have transformed! If you would’ve asked me a year ago, I would’ve told you AI isn’t my thing. But now? I’m all about it, and how it can make my She’s LinkedUp training programs even smoother!

But let’s make one thing clear: The human touch in what I do, especially steering clear from LinkedIn spamming, is irreplaceable. Yes, I’m intrigued by AI’s level up in content creation, customer service, and personalizing user experiences, but injecting authentic-you in your content? That’s how you make noise in a sea of AI-crafted content.

I’m hearing people concerned that the interactions they’re having are even with real people! Can you believe we’re in a world where we have to assure that?

In every bit of content you put out there, weave in your stories, your perspectives, your feelings. Making your audience feel a connection with you is the mark of successful content. With authenticity comes trust, and with the AI wave getting stronger, it’s essential to portray a genuine persona in all your marketing endeavors. I always emphasize the power of emotional intelligence in creating rapport in your marketing game.

There’s a dark side to relying too much on AI. I see AI as a starter tool, a handy assistant, but never a crutch. Content comes alive in the human dance of words and feelings, and AI can’t do that dance for you. Relationships built on human interactions are genuine, and AI simply can’t emulate that essence.

Throughout this podcast episode, I reassure you that even while playing with various AI tools, I’m committed to authenticity, maintaining that Karen touch that you know and love.

Karen Yankovich 0:23
Hello there. I’m your host, Karen Yankovich. And this is episode 262 of the good girls get rich podcast. And a year ago ish. I talked about how I just thought AI was just not something I wasn’t at all interested in on this podcast, I will leave it there because it’s just interesting how fast things change in a year. And now I’m like, I’m all in. In fact, moving into 2024, we’re going to be incorporating lots and lots of AI techniques into our she’s linked up training. I think that there’s lots of ways that we can use it to just to to take some of the load off of our to do list, right? I think it’s a really great assistant in some areas. You will never, ever, ever, and oh my gosh, if if in 2024 I’m talking, I’m writing an episode saying Remember when I talked about that I was never going to do this. You get to call me out on this. But I can promise you that I can’t imagine what would it need to change in the world? For me to ever say we’re going to use AI to connect with 100 people a week on LinkedIn and send out spam messages. That’s not what I mean, by leaning into AI. I think that there’s a lot of good reasons to use AI and AR marketing. And we’re gonna be talking more about that moving forward. If you’re doing research, if you know things like that it’s more of a first draft tool. It’s open on my desk all day long every day, right my the chat GBT prompts and we’re exploring some other AI tools. And just so we’ve gotten so good at using it to help us identify who our ideal client is and what their wants are and what their needs are. But here’s the thing, what has not changed, besides the fact that there’s no way I’m ever going to use AI to spam my LinkedIn network. And nor do I ever recommend that you do that. I think that that just is counterintuitive to everything we’re talking about, and everything that we need to do in this in this marketing world we live in. But I heard something recently, that really kind of shook me to the core a little bit. It was somebody that was connected to on Facebook that was talking about the fact that they recently got a high ticket client. And all the interactions, I guess were via DM and things like that, which is not common, right. Like most of the most of the time, I’m talking to people on Zoom to enroll people in more programs. But there are people that just want that are happy chatting with you in the DMS. I’m cool with that too. But before they would give them their credit card, they asked them to do a video talking about things that they had specifically talked about. So they knew they were real, that there was a real person that they were talking to, I was like, wow, I get that I get that right, do you get that? Now, here’s the thing, there’s probably AI tools that will allow you to do that, right, there’s probably AI tools that will allow you to create that will create a video as you talking about these things, right. So we’re not going to get into that right now. But what it what it made me think about was the importance of letting people know your FurReal. For the last year or two I’ve been talking about marketing has been getting needing to be more intimate, right, your marketing needs to be more intimate people need to know that they need to know like and trust you, you know, when the work that I’m talking about here, and you’ve heard me have heard me say this a few times is I’m not really here talking to you about how to sell a pen, I’m here to help you get a distributor that wants to buy 10,000 of your pens, right. And if somebody’s buying 10,000 of your pens and giving you that credit card for that big fat, juicy opportunity, it’s so important that you’re in your marketing, you’re portraying that you are in fact, a real person. Okay, and I can’t even believe I’m talking about this now. But it’s so true. It’s so true. You know, with the rise in AI in marketing, you know, it’s being used to create content, it’s customer service, personalization of user experiences, right? So can you understand why this authenticity is so even more important than it’s ever been in this kind of like high tech context that we’re talking about? You know, when I interviewed Donald Bravada, for the show, and we’ll link to this in the show notes, Don and I talked a lot about AI and AI over the same generation. So, you know, we’re not like, you know, we’re not in our 20s anymore, but understanding the power and how cool these tools can be when used in the right places. But as we use them more to create content, as we use them more even for customer service and things like that, it’s even more important that we show up in as our authentic selves. So, you know, there are some challenges, you know, differentiating between content created by humans and content created by AI. Right. So it’s important though, you infuse the human touch, listen, we’ve all seen them. And frankly, I’ve used them right, like create all your content in 10 minutes with you know, these two tools right can Canva allows you to upload a bunch of quotes and then merge them with templates and then pop out a bunch of stuff, right? I love all that. But then I do think that when you’re creating the captions around all of this, and the descriptions to all of this content, you want to infuse your personal point of view, right? Because if you’re not infusing your personal point of view, then what makes you different? Why is anybody gonna buy your stuff or invest in you over someone else, you know, somebody reached out to me recently, and somebody that had no experience whatsoever in content creation, or writing, saying, Oh, my gosh, I’m gonna start writing, I’m gonna use AI to start writing. And it was like, again, a little bone chilling to me, because they probably could do that, right, they could probably create a really comfortable living now doing these things. So as somebody who is kind of anti that, and creates a really comfortable living, and teaches other people how to create a really comfortable living, by being authentic, then you have to make sure that you are getting you know that you’re differentiating your content from that content that’s just getting put out there. That’s just getting a tool spinning. And then to get out there. I love the idea of using a tool to get you started, right? But then you’ve got to infuse your point of view your human touch your stories, right? Because this is what builds trust. Authenticity builds trust. And in this era, where AI generated content is just growing. I mean, I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years, and I’ve been around a while, right? It’s so important to be transparent and genuine, when you’re building trustworthiness and reliability into a brand. Right? So you need to be spending time creating that trust creating that transparency. And with things like video, more video, right? Even this podcast, I probably could, you know, I mean, I’m gonna say maybe in a year, I could just put some ideas into a, you know, into something and say, you know, can you just pop out a podcast for me, I’m tired this week, I don’t want to do it myself, right. Like, maybe I’ll be able to do that at some point. But hopefully at that point, at least, it’s got enough knowledge to know who I am and what I talked about what it sound like, right? Like he believed we were talking about this. So you definitely want to continue to be transparent and genuine. With things like video with things like audio, especially if you’re on camera, actually, honestly, showing up in person as often as you can, I think is going to become even more important than it’s ever been before, at least in my brand, at least for my brand, write more in person events, more in person conferences, I like to have in person meetups, when I can if I’m going to be in other parts of the world, or even here in New Jersey, with the people that are in my shoes linked up products and programs, because I like to meet people in person, I have a commitment when I build up my marketing plan for the new for the upcoming year, I have a commitment to doing weekly lunch dates, I want to have a date, a weekly date in person with somebody so that I’m actually getting out of my office more and I’m seeing people and meeting people. And I you know, I would like that maybe that’ll be you. Right? You know, there’s a lots of conferences on my agenda in 2024. I’d love to see you there. Because this is how we build trust with authenticity. Hey, it’s Karen. And I wanted to just jump in here for a minute. And just remind you that you know, most of the people that listen to this show, or that I work with are smart, successful, busy people. And I’m sitting here saying we don’t want to spend a tool to do this work for you that you’ve got to do this work yourself. To get that it sounds like maybe that’s a lot of work, it’s absolutely not, I have worked really hard to create a simple process that allows you the CEO or the owner, or the person who is responsible to be building the wealth in your life, to have a process to have the kinds of calls on the calendar that can allow that wealth to grow. Without it sucking up hours and hours and hours of your time, which is why I talked about in this episode that we’re going to be incorporating a lot of AI techniques into our program, because I do think AI can alleviate some of the busy work that we do. Because you know, I personally am very committed to ensuring that we’re falling into these terms of service with everything that I teach, because, hey, listen, we wanted our LinkedIn accounts to get suspended, right, because we’re doing all this work. So as we do that, it means we’re not using a tool to spin to send out a million spam messages. But it also means maybe your VA doesn’t login right to so I got your back on this just so you know, the processes we teach, we incorporate how you can how you can incorporate an assistant into this that you are truly just showing up in a in a powerful way. I don’t want you doing all this busy work, and which is one of the reasons why we’re excited about incorporating some of the AI tools that we’re incorporating into our program for 2024 and beyond, so that we can leverage our time we can stay in the place of our donor genius and not bogged down by a lot of busy work. So if you want to know what it looks like to be building a marketing plan like this i I would love to see your name on our calendar, just go on over to Karen yankovich.com/call. And we can chat and see if it’s a fit to get you some support. Either way, these calls are really valuable, we want to make sure that we are giving value at every single thing we do and starts right here. So look forward to seeing your name on the calendar.

You know, at the end of the day, what AI cannot do is really understand emotional intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is inherently human, it’s not replicable by AI, at least not now. Right? So when you when you have a marketing campaign, you want it to demonstrate empathy, you want to demonstrate understanding and genuine emotion, that the things that resonate most deeply with your customers. Now, you could use AI to do the research on that, right? But then you’ve got to show up as your authentic self understanding and showing that emotional intelligence around that empathy, understanding and emotion. Right. Does that make sense? So I think we’re gonna be talking about this for a long time, this is not going away, right? So I can’t even tell you what we’re going to be talking about next year. Like I think it’s actually pretty funny that last year, I was talking about the fact that I don’t really want to use AI. Right here I am going I love AI, I think we’re gonna dive into it. And in a big way in in 2024. In this she’s linked up training, we’re already modifying it. In fact, the week that I’m recording this, I’m actually doing a deep dive AI training with my she’s linked up society, mastermind people on really, how do you really get to the heart of your ideal client using these AI tools, which is so cool, and it will help you with your marketing. But it doesn’t mean you can step away from your marketing. So let’s recap this a little bit. We know that there’s a rise in AI. Okay, we have got to distinguish, you have got to distinguish your content with infusing your human self into your content, whether that’s through video, whether that’s just rewriting content, rewriting the descriptions around that putting in some stories or point of view, right? You’ve got to distinguish that because that’s how we build trust, the trust is built with authenticity. Okay, the trust is built with authenticity. And we’re talking here about using LinkedIn, for these and PR for these deeper relationship based high ticket offers. And that authenticity is, is important. Emotional Intelligence is something that we can personally infuse into our marketing, right? It’s inherently human, that empathy, understanding and emotion. This is how we resonate more deeply with our customers. And we get to that personalized, that more vulnerable. That more intimate marketing that I’ve talked about for the last year or two, okay, I guess maybe even post pandemic, with the pandemic, I feel like the world got so noisy that we needed to get more intimate with our marketing. Listen, I don’t know where this is going. But I’m here for it. I’m around. And I’m looking forward to playing with these tools and helping it save me time. So as we move into 2020, for whether or not AI can replace people’s jobs, I’m not here to talk about that. That’s certainly not my area of expertise. But what it cannot replaces you it cannot replace you in your marketing, and you must be present, you must show up as worthy of people’s time, you must show up as caring. And as somebody who is truly worth, you know, is truly genuinely interested in the outcomes that your prospects are getting, and your current clients are getting. And you gotta do everything. We’ve got to do everything we can to let people know that we are for real, that we are real people, right? Digital First Impression – Making Your Mark: The shift towards online networking, while inevitable, offers an unparalleled chance to project an impactful persona to a global audience. It’s key to remember that while physical traits can’t be altered, the digital world allows us to masterfully craft our first impression, setting the tone of our online presence.

LinkedIn – More Than Just a Resume: Your LinkedIn profile needs to be treated as a narrative of your professional journey. It’s not just a residency of past experiences but an active platform to share stories, accomplishments, and demonstrate your unique brand value to potential connections.

Welcome to the good girls get rich podcast with your host, Karen Yankovich. This is where we embrace how good you are girl, stop being the best kept secret in town, learn how to use simple LinkedIn and social media strategies and make the big bucks.

Karen Yankovich 0:23
You know, we do a lot of networking online, and we meet a lot of people, right? Have you ever met somebody online and then met them in person, whether it’s just like one on one for coffee, or, you know, maybe at a networking event, and you finally meet them in person, and they’re different than you thought they were? Right? Like I this twice has happened to me that I can think of where one time, the person was a lot taller than I thought they were going to be any other time, they were a lot shorter than I thought they were going to be. And both times I’m like, Well, what the world made me think I knew how tall they were gonna be like, there’s nothing, there was nothing that I’ve ever seen either one of them that would make me think that they were either tall or not tall or whatever. And if it yet I was really like, in both of these cases, I was really surprised. And it took me a little while to kind of get used to the fact that the impression that I had of them, or after years of meeting them and talking to them and working with them was so different than what the reality was of them. And I’m saying is not because I think that we need to be perfectly clear on how tall we are anything like that in our in our market, because we don’t it doesn’t matter at all. But I’m saying this because what’s happening is we are whipping up personas for the people that we follow, right? And the people that we meet, and people are doing that for you. They’re seeing your content, they’re seeing what you do they’re meet, they’re connecting with you on LinkedIn and seeing your posts and your Yeah, we’re in the age of video. So but very rarely are you seeing somebody doing like an a full in person video, right? The bottom line here is though that we are we are creating in our mind, personas around the people that we meet digitally. What that tells me is we need to understand that there is such a thing as a digital first impression. You know, we wouldn’t if you were walking into a meeting for the first time you would walk in you would you know, I mean me I shouldn’t say we I said I would make sure that my hair was done that I had, you know my makeup was on point I had a great outfit on to me. Sometimes it’s also about the shoes. So I might have some great shoes on, I would go out of my way to create a great first impression. That same concept transfers to the work that you’re doing digitally. Does that make sense? Do you understand what I’m saying with this because if you are not doing this, if you’re not, if you don’t understand that you have a digital footprint, that you have a digital online brand and you have a digital first impression, then you are missing, probably leaving a lot of money on the table, you’re probably leaving a month, a lot of money on the table. You know, just take a quick minute and throw your name in a search engine and see what comes up. People are doing that for you, right people people are definitely doing that they’re before they work with you before they meet with you before they get on the phone with you. Or on that Zoom call, they’re probably throwing your name into a search engine. And you know how I know that because I do that. Right? I bet you do that too. Right. And you know, you almost want to I almost want you to go to like a, an incognito browser and do this. Because sometimes, you know, especially with Google search engines, it’s influenced by the fact that it’s you, right? So go and see, go to like, or maybe go to somebody else’s computer, just throw your name in a search and see what comes up. Because this is your first impression online. And the good news is we can control this, we can control our first impression online, especially if you’re listening to me now. And you’re thinking, well, if people search me online, they’re just gonna find out about all the things I used to be doing. You know, I’ve been in corporate for 20 years or 30 years. And now I’m a coach or consultant or, you know, an author, speaker, and nothing’s coming up about that. Well, this is all the more reason why you need to finish, you need to listen into today’s episode, because today we’re going to talk about how you absolutely can take control of what people see, as your first impression digitally. And come on, you know where I’m going with this right, like very first thing I’m gonna talk about here is your LinkedIn profile. One of the reasons why I do this, I don’t focus on LinkedIn, just I think I love LinkedIn. Right? In fact, somebody interviewed interviewed me recently, and they were like, oh, so worried about you, Karen. Because I was thinking, Oh, my gosh, what if LinkedIn goes away? What’s gonna happen to her business? And I was like, Well, you know, it’s really not about LinkedIn. Right? LinkedIn is a tool that we have, that we can use, but really what it’s about is our personal brand, right, and the brand and because we have LinkedIn, and I have checked all of the other sites, I mean, I’m always checking sites out I’ve been hanging out on Alignable lately, if you guys are on Alignable, find me there and connect with me there. And while I’m loving the activity on Alignable, what I don’t love about Alignable as much as I love on LinkedIn or some of these other platforms is there is no other place on the internet that you can create your first impression that you can create the brand of you All right, first of all, LinkedIn is the cornerstone of your online brand. It just is okay. You can, you know, argue with me, if you want me send me a message on on SpeakPipe. If you want, if you want to have a conversation about this, I’d love to have that conversation. But the reality here is that LinkedIn is the cornerstone of your personal brand online. So you know, I’ve done many, many podcasts on this, I’m not going to talk about all the ways you can optimize your LinkedIn profile. Connect with me on LinkedIn, I’m always doing I don’t know, there’s always ways that I can help you with that. But you know, at the very least make sure you’re looking at it with the eyes of somebody that’s looking at that as your first impression. Is that what you want? Is it like your resume? Or does it like your brand? Are they going to look at that and go, Wow, I want to get to know her, or they’re gonna go Alright, well, she looks like she’s pretty good at Excel. That’s cool. Right? What are they going to think about when they see that? This is your first impression, and especially if you are crafting the next chapter of your life in your career, you need to relook at this. And it’s not like we’re gonna fake stuff, but you want to be positioning yourself, for the person that you’re stepping into. Because that is the first impression people are going to see, yes, we’re going to have on there, all the things we’ve done before, of course, we’re going to still have all that, but what we’re going to be talking about and what we’re going to be showcasing is the person you’re stepping into, with like a well told story in your summary, right kind of narrating your journey a little bit, highlighting your the achievement and endorsements and recommendations that brought you to where you are today, right not about what things you used to do that that are relevant to the chapter you’re stepping into write having a compelling headline that encapsulates your expertise, your value proposition, what’s different about you, what makes you unique, these are all things you can take control over, right? So Way number one that you can take control of the first impression that people have of you online. And the next thing we’re to talk about here, and I talked about this a lot, and this is one of the reasons why I talk this is not one of the reasons this is the number one reason why I incorporate press and PR and media for credibility and leveraging that for more credibility is because that helps with your first impression online. Right. So when you are consistently featured in the media, in you know, press releases interviewed on podcasts, or newspapers or magazines, you get to borrow the credibility of the person that the host that’s that brought you on for that right? Or the publication that interview do, or the publication that you published in, right. So that immediately gives you more credibility, even if your your actual experience in this new chapters been about three weeks long, right? This should be the very first thing you focus on. Because when you are, you know, listen, if you’re not 20, if you’re over 20, or even over 30, or 40, which is most of the people that listen to the show, then you’re coming to this next chapter with lots of years of expertise. So we’re going to leverage that expertise with some press with some PR so that when people throw your name in a search bar 10 pages come up, right, that’s what we want for you. All of those media entries that they see when they search for you add to your credibility, add to that first impression so that you’re making this brilliant and beautiful and phenomenal first impression online and you can control this, Oprah’s probably not going to come knocking on your door. Right? So do you have some business milestones, write some press releases about those things, build relationships with the journalists and the industry influencers in your industry? Right look, for more speaking opportunities and panels to gain exposure, there’s talks that I did five 610 years ago, that are still coming up, when people throw my name in a search engine, they come up high, depending on the impact that the organization that brought me into speak has on on their digital presence, right? So you want to and you want to showcase these media features on your LinkedIn profile, right? Because again, we’re talking about that being the cornerstone of your brand, and other digital platforms, because you want to do all that to it all enhances your credibility, and helps you create that beautiful, brilliant, first impression online. These are all the kinds of things that we help you with in our choosing accelerator program. We have a 12 week program that gets you started. I mean, we meet you can’t do this yourself. It’s hard to do this yourself. You’re, you know, you’ve never been this person before. How can you step into this new identity without help and do it successfully? Right? I mean, maybe you’ll have some successes, but why not? You know, stick with a group of people that have proven successes around this and hang out with a bunch of other women who are killing it and are holding each other up as they’re stepping into this new chapter. That is, at the heart of everything we do in our shoes, linked up programs and accelerator program is the beginning of that we write your LinkedIn profile for you. We help you learn how to write pitches to media, what makes you different how you can stand out. It’s not just LinkedIn training, right? It’s literally about re crafting your identity as you step into this new chapter with just so much support and so many brilliant women surrounding you because I’m Want your success and this next chapter to be inevitable? So if you want to know what it looks like to get some help with just grab a spot on the calendar I Karen yankovich.com/call, I would love to see your name on the calendar.

Now there’s one more thing I want to talk about. And I’m going to dive a little deeper into this than the other two things. And that is, that is the connections that you have, right the connections that you have add to your first impression. Right? First of all, if your first impression is because a podcast host or somebody in the media share that they interviewed you, you immediately have more credibility than your competitors that maybe don’t have those same things, right. So, so surrounding yourself with people in this digital age, that have a brilliant brand of themselves, is especially important for women transitioning from like corporate to entrepreneurship, or if you’re just been a coach for a bunch of years. And now it’s time to just level it that heck up, right, like your next chapter is not gonna look like your last chapter. And a big part of that is the people that you surround yourself with. So online networking can be just as powerful as those face to face meetings when we do this, right. You know, we’ve learned that we just spent, you know, a year or whatever in place where we were doing all of our connecting online. So we’ve learned the power of zoom, I do think there’s zoom fatigue is real. So I have a personal commitment to do you know, more in person lunches more in person events, I literally have it on my marketing plan, which we teach you in Archie’s LinkedIn accelerator program, I have it on my marketing plan, that I want to have a person in person lunch with somebody once a week, because I need to get away from my computer screen. There’s a lot that can also be done online, right. And when you’re doing these things you’re building, you’re surrounding yourself with some of the smartest people in the world. It this establishes your professional credibility, right, your network, partially determined to find your credibility, the company you keep, so to speak, right? It can lend a significant personal clout to what you’re doing when potential clients or partners look you up and see that you have this brilliant network, and people are talking about you, and you’re posting pictures of you with respected professionals and some of the smartest people in the industry, it reinforces the trust in your brand. It also expands your reach and your visibility, right? Because again, it’s all about the first impression that you’re making a solid online network increases this visibility across all of your digital platforms, right? When you’re interacting with your connections and engaging with their content and contributing to discussions. You’re not just visible to them, but also to their networks. Okay, oh, my gosh, it’s the ripple effect that I don’t think we talked about enough. Okay, the ripple effect of the work that the women in my shoes into the accelerator are doing is so massive, and it significantly broadens the reach of that first impression. Right? Can you see how this all comes together here? Right? When people again, when they’re when they come first come across you whatever that looks like maybe you come up in a search, or maybe somebody saw, you know, talked about you or you were interviewed somewhere or somebody said, all you need to you know, listen to Karen’s podcast, or whatever that is, right. It provides context and depth to your brand. Because your connections offer context to who you are as a professional, right? This reflects like your expertise, your values, your business acumen, right, especially if you’re shifting into a new chapter, this is crucial, because it showcases the breadth of your experience, the depth of your capabilities, and it comes down to the people that you’re surrounding yourself with. Listen, you know, this, you know that I can say, Well, I’m really good at this. And all I’m saying is like, alright, Karen thinks she’s really good at this, it doesn’t really give me any additional credibility. But when you look around me at the people I surround myself with, that immediately enhances my your first impression of me. You want these connections to be authentic, though, right? Like, you know, we can be using digital networking, but we’ve we’ve learned nothing else from living through a pandemic, we’ve learned that authenticity is so important. It’s not just about having, you know, a new business card or a lot of connections. It’s about building those genuine relationships, marketing, you’ve heard me talk about this on the show marketing is much more personal these days. And this is going live at the end of 2023. And you know, what worked in 2018. And 2019 is just not working anymore. The online world is just so noisy. So these authentic connections, more personalized and authentic and vulnerable marketing is what is going to demonstrate your genuine interest in what you do and how you help others. And this is such a powerful piece of that first impression, right? It also showcases your communication skills because they see how you’re engaging with the people around you. right these are. This is also important as you are building a strong brand for your million dollar business like we’re not doing this to make 50 bucks Since 2024, right? We want our cup to be overflowing so that we can serve the world with that overflow that happens when people look at you, and they see the way you communicate with the people around you. Right? It’s social proof. It’s thought leadership, all the buzzwords that we hear in marketing, right? It’s definitely modern marketing. Right. So if you’re, if you’re in some kind of transition, showing that you’re not just capable, but adept at navigating and leveraging you that transition is such a big part of what’s gonna help you have so much success in this next chapter, that you’re adept, that you’re adaptable, that you’re up to date with modern business practices, that you’re up to date with technology that you can show up in this new space in this new room, and kill it, and just be be shining with all of the other people that are doing the things you do, but you are doing it better, right. So this strong network, you know, mixed with active and strategic online engagement, all of this reinforces your reputation. It showcases your expertise, it demonstrates your value and your industry, right. And this is how we we are creating and crafting and being intentional about the first impression people see of us online. And you know, for those of us that are over 51 of the biggest questions I get asked is well, what if people know how old I am? Right? I’m gonna say what I say to that is eff that, right? Like we have more expertise, we have years of experience, you know, as you are stepping into each new chapter ahead of you. Mastering this, these techniques that I’ve talked about here today on this episode is essential to continue to build the brand that is going to pay off for many, many, many years to come. So I just want to recap this for a second, the first thing we have to do is remember that people are creating a persona about you. They are we do it, I do it, I’m sure you can relate to doing this at some point in your life, right. So what we want to do, as smart, successful women entrepreneurs, is take control of what we can take control of maybe it’s not how tall you are, right, we want to take control of what we can take control of. And some of those things are your LinkedIn profile. Right. Some of those things are a consistent process for consistently being featured in newspapers and magazines, and interviewed on podcasts. And then a look around you are at the people that you surround yourself with. Right, you’re the sum of the five people you surround yourself with all those crazy cliches that you’ve probably heard me say 1000 times on the show, it’s important. And it all leads to the persona that people are building in their minds about you before they are making a decision to invest in you. Right, so take control of this. This is the timeless marketing that I talk about all the time. You know, I mentioned earlier in the show that we’ve got our shoes linked up accelerator program, my goal, the reason that I have crafted that program, the way it stands today is I want there to be more wealthy women of influence in this world. I think that women with more money can change the world. And I am so unbelievably grateful that I get to hang out with these brave women that have invested in themselves, and are showing up in these big ways across the world. If you want to hang out with these incredible women, just grab a spot on our calendar, Karen yankovich.com/call, get you to the calendar, I would love to see your name there. But I think the the thing that’s most interesting is the burnout piece, right? My kids are older now they don’t live at home. So I’m not in a state of having to manage raising kids and running my business at the same time. But even without that, you know, I found myself during the pandemic, right? Where you seven days a week, because what the heck else was there to do? Right, and then all of a sudden, back to life. And now I’m still doing way too much. In fact, just like this week, I’m like, I need to have clear boundaries around non work time. So I would imagine I’d I would have been I know because I’ve done this when I had I have four kids, I’ve done this with my four kids at home. That you know, burnout is such a thing. So what made what brought you to kind of bring your focus to that?

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 3:08
Okay, great question. So I think during the pandemic, I was not able to work all the time because I had a kindergartener who was sent home in 2020, and a second grader, and I was in my late 40s. And it was crazy. So I think with kobold, it really turned my life around. I was practicing psychology running a private practice, I had six therapists, hytta, COVID, and how to turn everything virtually have two little kids at home in the middle of the dining room, making it a school. And on top of that, and December of 2020, my mom passed away suddenly. And then during that time, I also became the primary caregiver for my stepfather, who had leukemia that was in a more dormant stage, and it became a cue, and five months later, he passed away. So in June of 2021, I was having a joint funeral for both of my parents, I felt like I had been going through the motions of life, I’d given up my dream of starting an online business, you know, and that’s where you and I had met years ago, but everything had to go on hold. And being an older mom, and I think a lot of people from the generation that I grew up in, you know, being a Gen X person. We were taught, push through, push through, we’re hard workers, we just keep going, keep going. And the concept of burnout gets thrown around a lot. But I think what’s so insidious about it is people don’t know how bad it is, until they start to step out of it. And you start to look at oh my gosh, my world is crazy. I am being pulled in so many different directions. And when you mentioned boundaries, when I looked at the concept of burnout, I really go deep behind what’s causing us not to it’s not just having self care. It’s really doing the deeper work of am I worth it setting boundaries becoming assertive stop being perfectionistic trying to stop this overwhelm that, you know, as entrepreneurs, we want to do all the things all the time. And when we love our work, it’s so easy to say, Yeah, I’ll do that. Yeah, I’ll do that. And then we find ourselves just completely even the thing that we love, we have no time to do anything.

Karen Yankovich 5:33
Oh, my gosh, that’s so true. That’s so true. And, you know, listen, there’s something to be said, for doesn’t get easier every year that goes by, right. Every year that goes by it gets a little bit more challenging, you know, for certainly for myself, I can speak to that. I think that, you know, my brain is still engaged. But you know, sometimes the rest of me gets a little gets a little tired from all of this, right. And even that, like, even though just recently, I’ve been thinking, like, I feel like lately, like, I’ve been forgetting people’s names more, and I’m like, is it like, my age? Or am I just freaking over, worked and burnt out? And honestly, like, it was a little bit of a wake up call for me, you know, I’m like, you know, what, you got to deal with this burnout before? You know, yeah, as I’m not willing to just, you know, like, say, Okay, well, let me just take some drugs or something for this, like, No, I gotta, it doesn’t get easier, right. So, you know, I had my kids a little bit younger, and it was crazy, then. So I would imagine, you know, having little kids in your 40s is nuts. It’s nuts. But it’s good. Because on the other hand, like, you’re older, and you have to think about, okay, how do you know I can’t do as many things physically, maybe, or keep up with the 20 and 30 year old moms. However, like, we have more resources, I feel like worldly things to offer our children. So we are kind of like, I don’t think I would change it. I just don’t think I would I was in for Yeah, I get that. You know, I have I walk you know, I have grandkids and I watch my grandkids sometimes. And my mother in law used to watch my kids a lot. And all of her grandchildren, she used to watch them a lot. And I think about her so often now like how much I had no idea how much it took out of her. I just had no idea. And now that I know, I like literally this woman’s been gone for a long time. But I’m talking to her as much now as it did when she was alive. Yeah, I’m so sorry, I didn’t. I’m loving every minute of it. Right, but also like needing a nap a lot. So you’re also making the shift from a therapist practice and in person therapy practice to an online business model. And I know we talked about that years ago, and you explained already in the show what you know why you kind of put that on hold. But tell us a little bit about that. Because a lot of the people listen to the show are in some kind of transition. Right? They are, you know, especially, you know, in 2023 I think this was a big year of transition for a lot of people. We didn’t know what the heck was going on in our lives. The last few years, it was just like, doing whatever we needed to do to, you know, think we could figure this out. But also I think mental health care, mental health care took a huge hit during the pandemic. I think there’s just not even enough therapists to handle it now. And I think like you said, I don’t think we even know what we’re in for. As far as burnout. We don’t even know we’re being burned out or that we’re operating in burnout. So what a crazy what a crazy specialty to have in the first place. And now shifting it. So what made you decide you wanted to shift from private practice to to a coaching practice, or medical private practice, I should say to a coaching practice?

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 8:28
Yeah. So I think, you know, I had had this idea of switching to a coaching practice way back maybe in like, 2016, I think you and I had met for B School, and you know, and it was just becoming like a thing. But you know, I’m the breadwinner, so I had to keep my private psychology practice. And I love psychology and love being a psychologist. And during the pandemic, it was, you know, that was what our income was so, and people were struggling, they were really struggling. But the hard part was, so was I, you know, and I think, you know, there’s a lack of resources. But I think the lack of resources behind the scenes that a lot of therapists and psychologists aren’t talking about, is we were also burnt out, we were hearing so many hard things as we were going through the hard things. And again, it just kept piling and piling. So when I started in February, actually of 2023, I said, this is going to be my year. I am not doing this crap anymore. No one’s going to change this for me. And at the height of making good money with my private practice. I said, this isn’t fueling my soul. I was put here to do something bigger. And I am not going to go out of this world without writing my book, having my podcast comeback and reaching more women. And what I did was I said I have to fast track this because I’m 50 so I have to get my game going. So I reached out and really got focused and I said, I want to work with the women who are in the circles I want to be in. So I heard Chris Carr’s mastermind, I got accepted. It’s amazing. And then you came out with your mastermind. And I said, I love Karen, I’ve worked with her for years, I’m doing that. So I have really put a lot of my energy into being in these two mastermind groups, learning from the people that I want to be like, and getting in those circles with women who are doing what I want to do. And what I found out is it’s not only business that I’m learning, it’s how to be a better woman. So it’s up leveled, my game is a person, like I’m no willing, I’m no longer willing to tolerate, you know, women who don’t want to do better for themselves who don’t want more like, it’s just changed me as a person in the last year.

Karen Yankovich 10:52
Oh, my gosh, I love that, well, that’s a big part of why I do what I do. That’s why I do this show, I want more women to understand that there’s support out there for them. Right. And, and it does come down to who you surround yourself with. And, you know, I find, you know, it’s interesting, because I do believe in my heart of hearts, it doesn’t mean you have to let go of the other people in your life. But I do find sometimes that that’s what happens. You know, like, there’s people that you’re just like, ah, you know, I just can’t listen to that anymore. I can’t listen to that, like, I can’t do the whining or whatever, take control and do something or don’t, and don’t whine. Right. So it’s just interesting. But, you know, you talked a little bit about, like, the importance of surrounding yourself with people and doing and how it impacts you personally, you know, I have a mentor that I that I’ve done a lot of work with, and she reached out to me recently with this thing, she’s got going coming up and, and I was looking at it, and I’m like, is this serving me personally or business wise? And she’s like, it definitely. You know, obviously, Karen, if it serves you personally, it also serves your business, right. But what’s really interesting about that was I kind of stepped into the place of Okay, what if this just what am I invested in this just purely to serve me personally? And I was like, Wow, that feels. And then I was like, I don’t even know that feeling. I don’t even know that I have now, it has been so long since I’ve invested in something that just supports me personally, that I did not recognize the feeling. What is like, I don’t even know how I feel. Yeah. So. So I kind of said, Okay, well, there’s your message from the universe, Karen. And so I said to her, we’re gonna keep clear boundaries around this. This is just for me personally, you know, even though I said, if there’s anything we need to talk about business wise, we’ll make that a separate engagement, you know, but it was just so interesting to me, that I didn’t know what it felt like, yeah, I didn’t, I couldn’t recognize the feeling of like supporting myself and I support so many other people.

I just wanted to take a quick break. And just remind you that the program that Cynthia took, that made her eligible to be a part of our choosing DAP society scale up mastermind, was our choosing DAP accelerator program. And that’s the 12 week program that is open to women who are really looking to step into whatever the next chapter looks like for them in a really competent, powerful way. We love supporting women, to help them have more impact, more influence and more income, I want there to be more wealthy women in the world. And it just absolutely warms my heart when I get to have conversations like this with with students that I’ve worked with that are just changing the world. And, you know, I’m just so grateful that I get to work with these beautiful, amazing women. And, you know, maybe that’s on the horizon for you, what do you think if you are looking to step into the next chapter of your life and your business in a new way, maybe that’s just higher income level. Or maybe you’re shifting something, maybe you’re changing from corporate to entrepreneurism, or maybe you’re shifting something serious in your business, I am here to support you with that. Honestly, we got to stop thinking we could do all this stuff by ourselves and get some help. That helps starts with a short phone call. Grab a spot on the calendar at Karen yankovich.com/call. So that’s why I love the work that you do. So tell us a little bit about Well, first of all, tell us about Mama’s shrink podcast.

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 14:33
Okay, so the mamas shrink podcast came out back in 2018 Completely had to shut it down when COVID hit. But now I really you know, I’m starting to have guests for a while it was more solo episodes, but I talk about all the things that I’ve learned in my 25 years of you know, being a therapist and a psychologist of you know, setting boundaries becoming more assertive how to parent, you know do’s and don’ts, like I’ve have my kids around, you know, I just did an episode with my oldest son, my little guys episodes coming out this week. I’m trying to, like, make this so women can get in there, listen to an episode and come out with something they can use to better their life. So whether that be, you know, just relating to the struggle it is to be a woman in this world or, you know, being a mom in this world. I’ve had some of my clients who aren’t moms listen to the podcast, and they’re like, Oh, I listened to that thing you said about boundaries. That was great. And I’m like, great, you know, you don’t have to be a mom. But it’s, it’s for moms.

Karen Yankovich 15:39
Right? Because yeah, because you’re bound. You’re just juggling so many balls, right?

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 15:42
Yeah. Yeah, there’s so many topics. I mean, like you’re, when you’re in psychology, you can talk about anything

Karen Yankovich 15:48
I bet, I bet, met my daughter, my daughter is in a situation now where her husband just went back to just a new job. And he’s out of he’s in the office five days a week. And they had both worked from home for years. And she’s, you know, a two and a half year old and a four month old. And she was like, Oh my gosh, she’s like, I don’t know, how, how did you do it? How do people do? And I go, I don’t know. But I remember being you know, having little kids and having sign in my office that said, TGIM thank God, it’s Monday, you know, because it was crazy to try and do and at the time I was going in, it was crazy to try to do everything on your home. Right? I can’t even imagine adding and I load.

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 16:22
My boys are always like, Why do you like Monday so much? I love Monday is my favorite day.

Karen Yankovich 16:28
Right? Oh, my gosh, it was crazy. It was crazy. And you know what, and it’s just but listen, I wouldn’t change a thing, right? And she’ll get in that situation. And that’s the thing we want. As women, we want to be there for our families. And we and the beautiful thing about the world we live in right now is we can like it’s I feel like it’s not like the and you’re probably too young to remember this. But it’s not like the I can fry it up in a bacon and serve it up in a pan or something like that. And, like, it’s not that we’re doing everything. Because we need to stop doing everything. But we can craft a business around the life that we want, we can craft a business. You know, like I say all the time, like sometimes people like we just I wouldn’t know what’s important to you, if it’s if it’s important to you to be home at three o’clock, when your kid gets off the bus, we can do that. It’s important for you to take a month in Italy, you know, because that’s where parents live, we can do that. Right? It doesn’t matter what it is, we live in a world now with the tools that we have that allow us to do that. And if we want to do it successfully, right, we have to be very conscious of our own energy.

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 17:28
Yes. Right. Like so important that, you know, I mean, our energy, I think is everything. And I think I make whether you know, clients want to work with us, but also our energy we’re projecting for our kids and the people that we work with. And also I think getting rid of the bad energy, right? Like, I don’t want to surround myself with these people who keep bringing me down. And it takes me two weeks to recover from, you know, spending time with that person. And with the holidays coming up. I’m like, believer, and I was doing this, you know, this might be an interesting fact for your audience, like we spend, you know, so in October, November, December, We’re all worried about the holidays, right? It’s so much stress, then we take January to overcome this stress, that is a quarter of our life every year that we’re spending worried about this nonsense, instead of sending, saying, I’m not spending it with people that I’m only going to see once a year, you know, so those are, you know, things that I’m really passionate about, like, I saw my mom have to struggle being a single mom, and I don’t want that life, you know, and I remember being a little girl saying, I don’t want that. And I’m trying to make other women realize that’s not acceptable. Like, we don’t have to do this anymore. Like we have all these tools. Now let’s use them.

Karen Yankovich 18:45
Right, right. Yeah. Oh my gosh, it’s so important. That’s so important. Okay, so now you have shift. Now you’re shifting into more of a coaching environment. Right. So tell us a little bit about that. And what why you made that choice.

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 19:00
I made that choice. Because, you know, for years, I have focused on, you know, trauma and eating disorders, which I’m very passionate about in Lyme disease, but those topics are really heavy. And as I’m getting older, I just realize, you know, I’ve I’ve been in the trenches with that. I’m not going to forget about any of that, you know, there’s a book in me about that. But I want to work at this point with women who have already, you know, perhaps done their therapy and are ready to play a higher game in life who wants to uplevel their game who really want to do the, you know, I think it’s even harder work to say, Okay, I’m feeling happy, but I want to feel great, like I want to new, right? I want to have boundaries. I want to have you know, people in my inner circle that light me up, I want to look forward to the day I want to do great things in this world. And I want to help them get there you know, and I want moms to believe like you can I don’t think moms can have it all at the same Some time, I really think that’s causing overwhelm. It’s, let’s balance it. So you don’t give yourself up and lose who you are as a person while you’re being a mother. And then when your kids are grown going, Oh my God, my whole life is gone. Like I’ve seen so many women over the years, not know what to do with themselves when their kids leave home. And I want women to be in a place where they’re like, I know exactly what I’m doing when my kids leave home. And I’m because that makes your kids feel good, too, because they don’t want to hear about you.

Karen Yankovich 20:28
Right, right. Exactly. Exactly. Oh, my gosh, that’s so important. That’s so important. So now you have coaching packages, and you work with women, primarily, one on one, or how in whatever format that you work with them at. And the goal is then to just have more women, like support be like that support that I just said I was didn’t even recognize, right, like be that support for these women that they so rarely have, do you find that, that it’s hard to get women to invest in themselves like that?

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 21:00
I do women feel really, you know, like, hesitant to invest in themselves. And I think the message is, but if we don’t, and I know this, like I’ve invested a lot of money in myself in this past year, you know, joining masterminds, being around more women that are where I want to be, and I don’t regret any of it. You know, after a while you invest in yourself, I think you’re like, Okay, I did that. But oh, so worth it. And I you know, and I hope people who work with me feel that it was worth it. But also, you know, I think you have to say I’m doing this for all the other people in my life. I’m doing it. Because if I’m not in a good place, how am I going to help all these other people be in a good place? You know, and it ripples over whether you have, whether it’s your children, whether it’s your partner, like whoever it is, like if you’re not well, no one’s gonna?

Karen Yankovich 21:49
Well, right. Right. It’s so true. It’s so true. You know, it’s interesting, I spoke to a woman this past week about joining our niche, our upfront program, she’s in the accelerator program. And she just technical, she just, she just couldn’t make the commitment. She just couldn’t make the commitment to spend the morning on herself over her family. And then she said, I can’t, I don’t want it was like really heartbreaking to me. She said, You know, I can’t do it. I just can’t do it right now. I can’t do that to my family. But thank you so much for believing in me. And I was like, it broke my heart. Like, of course, I can’t give people you know, I have to I can’t I have to be in integrity with people that paid for the program. I can’t say no, nevermind, I’m gonna do this anyway. But I so wanted to do that. Yeah, I just like felt like, it’s of all the people that need that. It’s somebody like that, right? Because we are so often just, I don’t know, it breaks my heart a little bit. But you know what, that’s why I do my, that’s why I do this show. That’s why you do your show, right? So that they’ve got lots of resources to to pull from while they’re building. And if you recognize yourself from that, know, just know that I’m still supporting you. But you know, it’s, it’s, it’s and that’s what we have, that’s what I have our free I have even my free Facebook group, or, you know, if you go to LinkedIn, for my community.com, we have the free Facebook group, we’re going to be doing actually right after this comes out. Yeah. So this, this is going to be going live early November. And then the a couple days after this comes out, we’re going to be doing like a live. I don’t know, we haven’t decided a name for it yet. But it’s going to be like a party, like a business planning party in the free Facebook group, you know, because I do think that the more we serve, the more it serves our business as well. As you know, like you said earlier, when you take care of yourself, and you just keep showing up is good for everybody around you. Right. And I think that that speaks to my business as well. So

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 23:35
That’s one of the things I want to do is make like a mom mastermind, you know, so it’s kind of like you are nourishing your own soul with other women doing Yeah, I love. So what’s up for you in the upcoming year. I’m working on my book proposal, which is exciting. And it keeps kind of switching to, you know, before it was going to be more on like parenting in your, you know, fifth 40s. And I’m like, well, now I’m 51. So it might be more about turning 50. And all the properties with teenagers, right? Is a big year, but it can be a beautiful year I’m finding, especially when you really focus on you know, time is limited. And the more we get in touch with that, the more we’re going to up our game. I plan on starting, you know, groups for women, and doing less one on one work. So if people want to work with me one on one now would be the time because I don’t know how long I’m going to do that. Because I’ve done that my whole life. Yeah. And I think working still, I’m managing my own burnout, right, like because there’s so many things that we can get our hands in. You know, I’m a course junkie. And I’m like, no, no, no more courses. You’re just doing masterminds and focusing on doing what you want to do, because that causes overwhelm and I don’t want to be in

Karen Yankovich 24:51
oh my gosh, you’re so right. You’re so right. And it’s it’s I agree and I think a lot of people are starting to feel that way or at least I hope more people are starting to feel that way. You know we need need support more than we need another? Like, I don’t know, if you guys probably have seen my background, I do 1000 videos, but I have a million books, if books and courses were the answer, you know, there wouldn’t be a million a billion dollar industry and self help books, right? Like, if books and courses helped. that would that would not be a billion dollar industry. And it doesn’t mean that they don’t help. It just means it’s not the it’s not the we need more. We have more than that. And and it’s there, it’s so it’s there for us. You know, we’re so easy. It’s we’re so quick to spend money on you know, buying our kids and new $200 lacrosse stick, right, you know,

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 25:35
Or a $300 bat I found out I mean? Right. And that’s such a good point, Karen, because I, you know, sometimes feel bad asking people to pay for my services, especially since I took insurance for so many years. However, I think about things like that. And, you know, I think women need to pay for is a better version of themselves, like your kids need a better mom more than they need a new bat. You know, they think, Oh, my God functions like in his happy, right? It’s so true. It’s so true. Alright, so people can get started with you with this free assessment that you have. Right? So tell us about that. Tell us about your quiz. So I created this quiz. And actually, when I was creating it, I came up with this three stage model that’s similar to physical burns. Because as I was creating it, I realized like, oh, yeah, I went from first degree burnout, to second degree burnout, to third degree burnout. And when you’re reaching third degree burnout, like you need help, like you really do, and I’ve been through all the stages. So if you go on over to Mamaburnout.com, you can take that assessment, it will give you a printout and no Gil, like, you know, I say I’ve been through all the stages, because I think moms are scared to even look at it. But we can’t, we can’t change what we don’t acknowledge. So that’s why I created this. It’s it’s 20 questions, it’ll tell you like, are you You know, just dabbling in burnout? Or are you like, beyond, you know, stage three, and you know, Code Red, like, you know, we need to really look at it until we can fix it. And once you know, okay, knowledge is power. And so that’s why I created that.

Karen Yankovich 27:16
Awesome, awesome. So if they just go to we’ll put the links in the show notes too. But if we just go to Mamaburnout.com, we’ll get right to the quiz. I love what you’re doing for the world. So thank you so much for doing what you do,

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 28:09
