Content is important – no doubt. But do you know what’s even more important than producing content? Building relationships.
Building relationships can feel difficult and time-consuming. So it’s easy to procrastinate and focus on creating content for Instagram and TikTok instead. Content, however, is the most beneficial for your business.
The truth is that building relationships isn’t all that hard. In fact, to make relationship-building easy, you just need to follow these steps.

And leave me a message and you know I can get back to you let you know what I think about that. So I love we love getting your messages. So if you’ve been a listener for a while, then you know there’s no end of busy work in my life. I you know, been a single mom for decades. I’ve got four kids now for grandbabies. I have a huge extended family, lots of lots of people in my life, running a fast growing business, I can procrastinate with the best of them. I am the queen of procrastination. And I can convince you of my righteousness in doing all those procrastinating things that I need to do. I am not saying that, like I’m proud of this, I’m just letting you know, I’ve been there, I get it. And I also know that if I want to spend more time with my grandbabies, if I want to spend more time doing the things outside of my business, that I have to be really intentional about doing the money generating things, so that I can pay people to do some of the things that also need to get done. But that I don’t want to necessarily be doing right, because those are tend to be the things we procrastinate on. Right. We’re gonna talk a lot about that today. Because maybe, maybe you’re wasting a lot of your time creating content, instead of building powerful LinkedIn relationships. So yes, content is necessary. It’s a necessary part of marketing. I have this is content, right? I’m giving you a podcast, this podcast is content. So but I want you to look at the content creation time that you’re spending, and decide if it is the best use of your time. Okay, I’m not saying like Instagram reels are fun, tick tock is fun, but are they helping you actually build relationships, we do a lot of busy work that doesn’t help our business have to help us build our businesses. You know, in our shooting program, of course, we help our students with their content plan, right. And, and of course, we want them creating content. But I literally like I literally say, but here’s the deal, I don’t want to see a single piece of content until you’ve done this outreach stuff until you’ve done this part. Because the outreach, the the client, getting stuff comes from the relationships, that has to happen first. Staying in the busy work is a way to avoid putting yourself out there and connecting with the people that can help you build your business. Sometimes that’s gets a little wiggy, right, it’s easy to sit on your at your desk and or sit on your laptop and go into Canva and create all kinds of fun pictures and, and graphics and things like that. That’s, you know, that’s the procrastinating stuff, right? It’s a lot harder to put yourself out there and connect with people as if you’re peers with them. Connect with people with the intention of getting on the actual phone with them. But when you’re talking with people authentically, that’s where you’re gonna see the results. That’s where you’re gonna see the money, the more money coming into your business. Russ Rufino who’s one of my mentors, his one of the things that he says is fear is a signal that you’re on the right track, it’s a signal that you’re onto something worthwhile. So if it’s feels a little wiggy to be getting on the phone with people to doing that outreach of then that might mean that that’s the things you need to be doing. Right? Because because that is that is the stuff the relationship getting stuff the getting on the phone with people, positioning yourself as if you’re peers with the most influential people in your industry and then looking to build relationships with them. Sometimes feels a little uncomfortable. Are you afraid to make the connections and build the real relationships that can get you to your goal, right if you’re like many people that I work with, your time is limited. I like most of them. women that I work with are busy, right? And I am I respect that. And I, you know, I have worked really hard to create a process that maximizes the time that they’re spending on marketing their business, because your time is limited. So you need to spend it doing the most dollar productive activity as you can. Right. And again, of course, you still need to do content. But maybe at that point, you can pay people to do that stuff, right. But one of the first things that we do so let’s just take a step back and say, one of the first things I do with people that as soon as they come into my world, is we get we create a plan where I like to, I like to call this having a big win conversation, what is a big win look like to you? The purpose of this call is to brainstorm, make her think big, make her think about our services, and what success would really look like to her, often we have to create this high ticket offer, that’s going to help them achieve their definition of success, right? If you’re shooting for a quarter million dollars, which is really where I want everybody shooting, right, if you’re shooting for a quarter million dollars in your business, then you have to have a price point that’s going to help you get there. Right. So that’s the first thing we need to do is kind of determine what that is, you’re not gonna go to Tik Tok and, and create a create a video that’s gonna have somebody just throwing $50,000 In your PayPal account, and saying, hey, I want to work with you. Right? That’s I’m not saying that that’s the only service you have, you may have services and Tiktok can help you build authority that can help you land those services. So not saying don’t do that. But understand, let’s get the money in first. And getting the money in comes from building those relationships. Right? So why do I think you should be building these relationships before you build the content? Because the quicker results come through relationship building. When you connect with people on LinkedIn, you’re connecting with a purpose, right? There’s a purpose for what you’re doing. There’s a purpose that you’re connecting, you’re not just like, I don’t want you randomly I never ever, ever going to say connect with 100 people a week ever, I only want to connect with five people a week, right? very intentionally, people that can change your business, your life and your bank account. Right? So let’s talk about what kinds of connections those people are. Right? And these are the things I want you to do half an hour a week, right? Before you do any of the other stuff before you do any of the procrastination stuff. Those connections can be people you’ve known in the past, right? Maybe somebody that you haven’t talked to in a while, and you want to just do outreach and say, Hey, let’s catch up. It’s been two years since we met at that conference, right? This This episode is coming out is April 2022. You know, we’re coming out of a couple years of not really being in person with people. So that line right there works in many, many ways, right? You can reach out to a lot of people in your network. Maybe you also want to reach out to people that are in your industry, but offer different services, collaborative opportunities, other people’s audience, people that have an audience that maybe they can put you in front of right. Most of the people that I talked to, when I when I talked to the most of the people, when I talk to them and say, Where did the vast majority of your business come from? 99 out of 100 times they tell me referrals probably 999 out of 1000 times, they say that biggest ticket business they have comes from referrals. Right? So you’ve got to be talking to more people so that you can get more referrals. And those sometimes those people can be in your industry. Maybe they’re professionals you don’t know but you’d like to meet. Maybe there are people that own groups on LinkedIn or own groups on Facebook, you don’t need to meet with the 100 people in the group you want up the group owner? Those are the people with influence that can maybe get you in front of those groups, right? These are the kinds of connections I want you to be making before you do the busy work. Okay. And then obviously, potential clients. Also think about who writes about what you do, right. Journalists? Who is, you know, is there a journalist in your state that is known for writing about what you do, or you’re building relationships with them, these are the things that can quickly get you to be landing these high ticket contracts. And again, you can still decide you want to do the Canvas stuff, or you can decide you want to pay somebody to do it. Right. So you’ve got to be doing this relationship building stuff. So that you can be having conversations with people that can lead to these high ticket conversations, these high ticket opportunities, that if you’re one of my clients, we’ve already identified on the very first call that we’ve we had, right? So at that point, then you want to have a daily routine of just logging into LinkedIn, checking your messages, checking your activity, checking your connections, activities, sharing and commenting on their content, reaching out to new connections, right? That that time, it’s better, that time is better spent doing that your time is better spent doing that, than trying to create a viral Tiktok video, do that stuff first. And when it’s done, say Alright, now I’m gonna play this afternoon, we’re gonna create a tick tock video. I recently did a podcast on creating a LinkedIn daily routine, you can check out episode 191. We’ll put the link in the show notes for you as well or just go to Karen yankovich.com/ 191. I’ll get you there. And it’s simple doesn’t take a lot of time. Just do that stuff first. Right? All I’m asking. I’m not asking you to not do the procrastination stuff. I’m asking you to do the important stuff, the big rocks if you’ve ever if you’ve ever heard that put the big rocks in first, do the big rocks first. And that’s the relationship building stuff. LinkedIn is more effective when you’re making these connections. Right Creating Masses of content And isn’t necessary, probably ever, but you know, you, you definitely want to post some content. But it’s not necessary to post at a couple times a day, every single day, seven days a week. I mean, you know, at some point, if that’s working for you, then go for it. But you better have a strong, you know, analytics that show that that’s leading exactly to the money coming into your bank account, because I’ve almost never seen that happen. Right. If you have a lower ticket item, then and you and then at that point, then you want to be building masses of content, and be building a massive audience in order to get to that quarter million dollar number. But if you don’t have a massive audience, the quickest way to get to that quarter million dollar number so that you can pay people to help you build the massive audience is relationships and high ticket opportunities. That make sense. So create some articles, create some posts that highlight your expertise, give you big, those are the things that give you a big bang for your book and establish you as the expert in your field. Do it consistently, but don’t swamp yourself with it. Right? Do the relationship building things. First. Networking on LinkedIn can take you less time and provide a bigger return than almost anything else you’re doing online. I promise you this spending time making connections targeting the right people, this is what’s going to help you further your business. Right, you want to establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. And all of this happens on LinkedIn. Right? This this networking, this high level networking can open the door to meeting highly influential people who can help you grow your network, grow your business, and you borrow their credibility to get the higher ticket opportunities, right. And they have a network, you might also be able to tap into right other people’s audiences. So take some time, really look at what you’re doing this week. And just get the relationship building stuff done first. Because when you do that consistently, that’s when you see the money coming into your business. I’ve mentioned to you before, in our she’s linked up family we’re creating, we’re using this exact process to create wealthy women of influence. If you want to know what that looks like, you can grab an opportunity, you can grab a spot on our calendar, if you go to Karen yankovich.com/call. You get to our calendar, you can talk to somebody about what you’re doing, we’ll brainstorm a little bit about what you’re doing, to see if it’s a fit to be able to support you. We have no end of ideas. But we’d love to tell you help you understand whether or not this process can help you. And if we think we can help you, we’ll tell you what that looks like. And we’ll get back to the relationship building stuff. The bottom line is this can be simple for you. So let’s do this together.
