About the Episode:

In today’s episode, we’re diving into the LinkedIn Success Style known as “The Relator.” If you find yourself resonating with this description, you’re someone who cherishes authenticity, values building deep connections, and has the incredible ability to make others feel comfortable and drawn to your warmth.

The strength of The Relator lies in their capacity to connect with people on a profound, genuine level. And let me tell you, LinkedIn is the perfect platform for Relators to leverage their natural abilities and achieve massive success. By being true to themselves and showcasing their authentic personality in conversations, posts, and comments, Relators can establish trust and rapport with their network like no other.

My advice for Relators is to be selective with their network, identifying potential clients, partners, collaborators, and journalists who cover topics in their area of expertise. Regularly staying in touch with existing connections, endorsing their skills, and writing recommendations are fantastic strategies for maintaining warm and thriving relationships.

Now, when it comes to PR strategies, building personal relationships with the media is absolutely crucial. Relators can share personal experiences and stories that resonate with journalists, leading to potential features and interviews that significantly boost their credibility.

Nevertheless, Relators may encounter challenges, especially when they prioritize relationships over business objectives. It’s important for them to set boundaries, learn to say no, and maintain professionalism while still nurturing their empathetic nature.

To infuse positive energy into their strategy, I suggest Relators leverage the power of the Rose Quartz crystal. This stone of universal love can help foster even deeper connections, remind them to love themselves, and maintain a balanced approach to relationships.

In our “She’s LinkedUp” program, I help Relators and other LinkedIn Success Styles become wealthy women of influence. By embracing their authentic connections and leveraging their strengths, they can elevate their LinkedIn strategy to new heights.

Karen Yankovich 0:23
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good girls get rich podcast. My name is Karen Yankovich. I’m your host. And we are diving into the LinkedIn Success styles that have been identified in the LinkedIn Success style quiz that we released a few weeks ago. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you want to go to LinkedIn quiz.com. And check it out. And you can get you can find out what your LinkedIn Success style is. We did this because I spoke to so many people, I speak to people all the time, right? They seem to people every week. And so often what I hear is I just don’t know what I should be doing on LinkedIn, I don’t know why I should be there. I feel like I should know more. Or even like there’s just too much spam there. I don’t know what to do. So you ignore it, you ignore it. And a good part of that is is that we think that we all have to have the same strategy, right? We go to YouTube, we Google it, whatever. And we do what you do tells us to do, right, we don’t need to all have the same strategy. And when you customize your strategy, and you’re not just spamming your network, with the same message that everybody else is sending, and you build actual relationships, from a place of where your personality and your strengths shine. This is where LinkedIn can become your money tree. So that’s why we created the quiz, you can go to Karen yankovich.com/quiz, or LinkedIn quiz.com. To get to the quiz. So in episodes 244 and 245, we covered the dynamo, we covered the Empower, and today we are going to cover the relator. So let’s set the stage here for the relator. Picture, someone who walks into a room and instantly everyone feels comfortable and drawn to their warmth, right? This person naturally builds bridges, not walls. And can you’re the putt, that’s the person you want to have conversations with because they can turn simple conversations into deep, authentic connections. This is my beautiful relator. And if you’re identifying with this description, maybe you’re relator or maybe you took the quiz and you know that you’re a relator, right. You’re someone who truly values authenticity, you’re absolutely personable. And this trait of yours draws people toward you kind of like like bees to honey, right? There’s a superpower in that in this business world. Because, you know, you’re really leveraging that true connection. And by the way, that is where LinkedIn shines. So if you’re a relator, this should be the number one platform that you’re using. relators are all about relationships. They’re the ones who remember details from past conversations, right? They genuinely check in and see how you’re doing. They prioritize connection over everything else. And you know what, this authenticity, this focus on building these really deep connections is pure gold in business. And again, especially on platforms like LinkedIn. So if you’re like nodding and saying, Yep, Karen, that sounds like me, then stick around, because we’re going to explore how you as a relator can leverage your natural abilities for massive success on LinkedIn. So let’s talk, let’s start by talking about a little bit about what your strategies might look like. First and foremost, let’s remember that we want absolute authenticity here. And we always want authenticity, like everything I teach is about authenticity, and relationships. So all of that really comes together the most for my beautiful relators. But you absolutely want to have authenticity here, right? You want to have genuine person, your genuine personality, in your conversations in your posts in your comments, and your responses on LinkedIn, because that’s what helps build that trust and that rapport with the people that you’re connected to, with the people that you are connecting to. Right, you want to show up as the real you because that’s what resonates with the people in your network. And that’s what forms the bedrock of those strong relationships that you build. You want to build out your network from that bedrock of those strong relationships, right? You want to carefully curate your network that aligns with your your professional objectives and values, right, of course, you know, we’re not on LinkedIn to make new friends. We are on LinkedIn, to build our businesses. So you want to make sure that you are carefully curating that network and identify people that could be potential clients, people that could be potential associates or partners or joint venture partners or collaborators, right people that could be potential, the journalists that write about the kinds of things we do, we’re going to dive more into that later. Right, but you want to be really careful about that. fact making sure that you have a professional objective as you’re building those networks, and then you want to start to regularly check in, right? You may want to go back, in fact, not may you want to go back into your existing network and just checking with people, how’s it going, send them personalized message, comment on their updates, celebrate their successes, right? Don’t just be looking to continually build your network have continual check ins with the people that you are already connected to, right, reconnect with those people, this is how you keep those relationships warm. And that’s what leads to that magnetic marketing strategy that we love so much here in our shoes linked up world, because that leads to unexpected opportunities, right? endorse those people write recommendations for those people, right? If you’ve, if you’re familiar with their skills, if you’ve personally witnessed, you know, some a skill that they’ve got listed in their skills on their profile, endorse those people, and you know what, maybe, you know, because what will often will happen is, they’ll endorse you in return, right? And sometimes that can be the start of a great conversation. So the conversation starter, is you endorsing them for the skills, right. And very often, at the very least, they’re gonna say thank you, if not endorse you. And it’s just a nice, relatable way to just start to get those conversations going. Remember doing this in a really strategic way, so that you’re doing this with people that can bring you more opportunities, you might want to pop into LinkedIn groups, I will not, you know, at the time that I’m recording this LinkedIn groups is not as valuable as I would like them to be. Don’t be the person that just goes in there and drops stuff in those groups, right? Like, you know, drive by posting, I call that right, go in and look and see what other people are posting in groups, if they’ve taken the time to post content in a group, start to engage in a meaningful conversation around that piece of content, right, share some insights about it, establish yourself as a supportive member of that community. Again, this is all things that establish you as an expert, when you stay in your lane, right. And you you build relationships from that place, you might even want to start to create and promote events through LinkedIn, like your webinars or virtual meetups. Right, this is a beautiful way for my brilliant relators to showcase your leadership, right? Engage with your network, build deeper relationships with people create events, be the event organizer, like just step in, and be that person. And don’t forget about sharing some personalized content as well share some stories, share some experiences or some insights that speak to what you’re expert in. But that also will resonate with your network, right? It keeps your feet active, but it also sparks conversations and deepens those connections. Let’s take a minute now and dive into some PR strategies, right, like so what are some PR strategies that a relator can focus on, to get more visibility and establish that credibility that getting featured in the news or interviewed in magazines or Podcasts can can give to your credibility, right? build personal relationships with the media in your area, go to your local online newspaper, type in the search bar, what you’re an expert in, and see what articles come up. And don’t worry about the article, see who wrote those articles, and start to build relationships with the journalists that write about the things that you’re expert in, right, because when you start to leverage personal connections with the PR experts in your world, right, it helps you it shows them that you’re genuinely interested in the work that they do. And it keeps you Top of Mind with them. Right, those connections are going to be really interested in your content. So make sure that you’re doing some storytelling and share your personal experience and the lessons you’ve learned, right, this humanizes your brand. And it will resonate with the journalists that that you’re connected with. And hopefully that will bring them ideas, or you can bring them ideas, right to use those stories in the stories that they’re writing, you know, look for opportunities to partner with complementary brands or influencers in your field, right? Those collaborations can absolutely be beneficial for more PR exposure for you and for the person you’re collaborating with. Right? Again, it’s that collaboration, collaboration is one of the most valuable words in your LinkedIn strategy. And I’m telling you, relators, you guys, everyone. That’s not a relator that’s listening to this episode. You can learn from this episode of things that you can be doing more on LinkedIn, because this really is the heart of what I think LinkedIn is best used for. And then, you know, when you’re thinking about your relationships with these journalists, and I guess, I guess and it also kind of depends on your business, right? But let’s say you have a local business. Let’s say you’re a realtor or, or, or, you know, you’re a coach that works locally or you have a fitness studio or something, right? Look for those community events, share those community events, tag the people in the community that are organized the events, tag the journalists, so they know about these events, right, so that you are actively participating in these community events and the discussions around these events, online and offline, right? Because this visibility, doesn’t just build your credibility, but helps establish you, as that positive public image in your community. So start to build relationships with those journalists, if you’ve got an open house, invite them to it, right. Maybe there’s an interesting story about the house, you’ve built relationships with them, right? Send them, send them some information, say, you know, hey, Mary, can open house next week on the story. And there’s a really interesting story behind this house, I don’t know, I thought maybe it might be something that you’d be interested in. You know, I always love getting more visibility on my homes, but I’d love to collaborate with you on this, right? Make it easy for them, right? Maybe there’s something going on in your community that you can participate in. And you can invite the journalist to be a part of that too, right. Maybe there’s a, you know, a ribbon cutting or something, whatever that is, don’t be afraid to build relationships with the media and the press and invite them to these things, even the podcast hosts in the area, right, look to see who writes pot who who records podcasts in your area, and invite the podcast host to open houses. And to to the interesting, tell them about the interesting stories, if there’s because there’s a lot of really fun niche, local geography based podcasts, look for them, right and build relationships with these people. And then kind of back to those events, right? If you’re doing the events we talked about in the LinkedIn strategy, don’t forget to invite the journalists, right, because they may be the ones that, you know, they can bring more attention to your event, but you’re also bringing more attention to them. When they know that you are a credible and visible member of your community, they’re going to want to be a part of you. They need you as much as we need them.

All right, let me just take a breather here. And take a minute to remind you that for all of you, relators are all of you that want to do a better job at the relator piece of the strategy that you are creating on LinkedIn, know that this is what I’ve got your back on in our shoes linked up program, when I tell you that the best women I know are in this program. I’m not. I don’t say that lightly. It is unbelievable the brilliance that we have in this program. And a lot of these are women that didn’t even realize that person at first coming in. So if you’re listening to this and thinking, Well, I’m not really in Karen, well, first of all, you probably are. But we bring out that brilliance we bring out that’s part of what we do. Its identity shifting, right. It’s absolutely identity shifting for the people in our program. And I know that that’s a big claim too. But I don’t make it lightly. We work really hard to build relationships with every single one of our students, and help them really become the person that they’re meant to be. So yes, it’s LinkedIn strategy, right. But it’s about stepping into the role of a wealthy woman stepping into the role of a visible personality of a visible expert, you know, in your field. So take a minute, grab a spot on our calendar, Karen Yankovich Chuck comm slash call get to our calendar, if you want to know what it looks like to really dive deeper into your role as a relator. And your strategies as a relator, or any of the other types that you’re if you’re listening to this, and you’re not a relator we’re using this quiz, and some really fun tools very specific to your type. To help you get the best, most customized strategy that’s going to help you have the most success. So Karen yankovich.com/call, get to the calendar, I’d love to see your name on our calendar. And we’ll give you some free resources to check into so but without that call, nothing changes, right? The first step is making that call.

Alright, so we talked a lot on the show so far about things that you as a relator can leverage on LinkedIn. But I want to talk for a couple of minutes now about some challenges you might have, right? Because there are a there is a unique set of challenges that often confront you if you are a relator style entrepreneur. And the first one really is that you might have a tendency to prioritize relationships over your business objectives. Right? So you’ve got to really balance that. I’ve mentioned this a few times in this because this really is the biggest challenge I see with our relators is that inclination to maintain good relationships can sometimes cloud your business judgment. Right? And I know you want to help everybody and I know as you’re building these relationships, and there’s somebody that you really want to help and maybe they can’t afford you well, there’s lots of ways you can still help them. Let’s get your cup overflowing. Right with with opportunities and frankly, cash so you can offer scholarships to some of those people, right? I’m not gonna say leave the people in the dark So that are not great business opportunities. But I am going to say, Be really clear on your business objectives. And you know, be transparent in your business dealings. And understand that making a business decision, even if it’s a tough decision doesn’t undermine that personal relationship. And you still might be able to help those people with some of the overflow from your cup, right? But make sure your cups overflowing first. The second challenge, my beautiful, lovely, heartfelt relator is that you need to learn how to say no. Okay, you need to learn how to say no relators often find it really hard to say no, because you have got this, this beautiful, empathetic nature. But it’s really essential that you set boundaries for your own well being and again, for the health of your business. You know, there’s lots of ways to say no, politely and firmly, right, like you can give them alternate solutions or delegate tasks where possible. I mentioned earlier that when we have people that call that get on our calendar to talk about our issues linked up program, not we’re picky, we are really picky about who we invite into our program, we don’t invite you into our program, unless we truly believe that it’s a no brainer, and we can absolutely get you where you want to go. Okay. And sometimes it’s a not yet and then it is a flat out No. But if it’s not yet, we’ll give you some resources. And we’ll say, Do this, this and this. And let’s talk again in a couple months or weeks or whatever. And sometimes it’s just a no, sometimes it’s just not a fit, right? If you come to me, and you say, Well, I’ve got I want to sell a million of these things. And I say, Well, if you want to sell a million of them, we need to get a distributor and you say, I don’t want a distributor, then you’re not, then we’re not a fit, right? I don’t want to take your money. And I don’t want to waste your time or my time if I don’t think I can help you. So it isn’t about saying no, because you’re because I’m you know, I just like you, right? Like, I don’t say no, because of that. I say no, because that no comes from my heart. And that no needs to come from your heart and you need to be firm about it. Okay. And then the third part of this is, you do need to maintain professionalism. It’s really you know, that warm, friendly nature of yours is absolutely a strength, but you want to make sure that you’re not losing sight of professionalism in these business dealings. Okay, you want to maintain that balanced approach, you want to blend that personal touch with professional acumen. Okay, you definitely don’t want to just, you’re not there to just make new friends, you might make new friends, right. But keep in mind, you don’t go to business networking events, to make new friends, you go there to get business, you don’t go on LinkedIn to make new friends, you go there to get business, okay? So maintain your professionalism. And make sure that at that’s at the heart of everything you do that comes kind of comes back to those boundaries, right. But it’s important that you do this because I want you to be massively successful. I know that when there’s more wealthy women in the world, beautiful things happen. And I know when there’s more wealth in your life, you have more freedom. And that freedom allows you to do so many things that you might be struggling to do right now. So these boundaries are important. Alright, now I want to talk a little bit about a tool you can use are some fun things you can do to incorporate some fun energy and some positive energy into your world. As you do this, because Your vibe attracts your tribe, right? You want to keep your vibe high. So as I’ve been going through doing the work on really getting to know each one of our LinkedIn Success styles, really deeply. And personally, I’ve kind of gone a little right brain on some of this too. And what we’ve done for these podcasts is we’ve identified a crystal that will help with your success and the crystal that we are going to share for our beautiful relators. And this is not going to probably come to us as a surprise to those of you that knows crystals is the rose quartz. Because the Rose Quartz is known as the stone of universal love. It’s believed to promote love and self love and friendship and deep inner healing and feelings of peace. It opens up your heart, right and for my beautiful relators whose strengths lie in building those meaningful and authentic relationships. Rose Quartz can help you foster even deeper connections with these people. It’s calming it’s reassuring energy can help you maintain that balance of not getting too emotionally involved, while still caring for your connections. Right? With your LinkedIn and PR strategy. My brilliant relators can leverage the energy of that Rose Quartz to build a network filled with genuine connections and to communicate your messages with love and authenticity. Right. It can remind you that it’s important that you also love yourself, right because this is an essential quality for our relators who sometimes downplay their own achievements, right? And because I want you to confidently showcase your skills and achievements. So while we’re using the Rose Quartz to build that beautiful connection with our network, we are also remote Did the Rose Quartz also reminds us to love ourselves, right? So give yourself a gorgeous rose quartz and keep it on you stick it in your bra, put it in your pocket, leave one in your car, whatever works for you. Okay, and just let that be a reminder to you let it be a little like reminder, as you go through your day that you want to just connect in that really deep way as you’re building relationships with people with your LinkedIn strategy.
