[00:00] Welcome to Good Girls Get Rich: The Conversations
Karen Yankovich:
Hello, hello everyone! Welcome to Good Girls Get Rich: The Conversations. I’m your host, Karen Yankovich, and I am loving these live shows we’ve been doing every week.
If you’re joining us live, jump into the chat wherever you’re watching from. And if you’re catching the replay, put Wednesdays at noon Eastern on your calendar and come join us live over on LinkedIn.
I’m so excited to be here today with Jamie Maglietta. Jamie and I met at PodFest a couple of months ago, and I immediately loved her energy.
Jamie is an Emmy-nominated television news veteran and media strategist with more than 20 years producing for CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, BET, and Fox Business. She’s worked alongside Wolf Blitzer and Fox & Friends, coached on-air talent, and even worked behind the scenes with VP Kamala Harris during her time at BET.
Today, she’s the founder of On Cam Ready, helping professionals and brands become media-ready through on-camera coaching, content strategy, and visibility training.
Jamie, I’m so excited you’re here.
Jamie Maglietta:
I loved meeting you too because we were both feeding off each other’s energy. We both want more — but we also want to help other people achieve more too.
[02:00] Why Video Visibility Matters More Than Ever
Karen:
One of the things Jamie helped me with was upgrading my video setup. Podcasts are becoming multimedia experiences now — more like television and less like traditional radio.
I wanted to show up more professionally without feeling fake or overly polished.
And honestly? Jamie completely changed my lighting setup. The difference was small but powerful.
Jamie:
Those little details matter, especially if you’re building a digital footprint that attracts clients, media, podcasts, or speaking opportunities.
You want to look bookable.
I actually have a visibility bundle people can download with equipment recommendations, lighting, microphones, and setup tips because these things really do make a difference.
Bold Takeaway:
“You want to look the part so you become more bookable.”
[04:15] Visibility Is the New Credibility
Karen:
If you’re not standing out right now, you’re invisible. And one of the best ways to stand out is through visibility — podcasts, media interviews, articles, features, and thought leadership.
Journalists and podcast hosts are looking for experts like you. You just have to be ready.
Jamie:
I always tell people to think of their social media feed like their own media channel.
Your branding, your visuals, your messaging — it all communicates whether you’re polished, prepared, and professional.
And if you have a podcast but you’re still only doing audio, I really challenge you to think about adding video.
YouTube was the most streamed platform in households last year. Video helps people build know-like-trust with you much faster.
[06:00] Done Is Better Than Perfect
Karen:
One thing I want people to hear clearly is that done is better than perfect.
We’re only a few episodes into these live shows, and we’re still tweaking things. There are graphics we still need to fix, lighting we’re improving, production details we’re adjusting.
But we’re doing it anyway.
Jamie:
Exactly. It’s all about thinking like a producer.
Even with my YouTube channel, I’ve changed thumbnails dozens of times. I’m constantly testing headlines, SEO, thumbnails, and topics because growth comes from refinement.
And right now, I’m studying what audiences actually want more of.
[08:30] How Visibility Creates Opportunity
Karen:
People sometimes ask, “What does getting featured in media really do for your business?”
It changes everything.
One of my realtor clients got quoted in NBC News. Another client had her product featured on The View. Another got featured in Costco Connection magazine.
And suddenly, they stand out instantly from competitors.
When you walk into a listing appointment and casually say, “When I was quoted in NBC News last month…” — that changes the conversation.
Jamie:
And often it starts with something simple.
Your profile looks professional. You engage thoughtfully. You share journalists’ content. You provide value first.
That’s what gets attention.
Bold Takeaway:
“The media doesn’t create experts. It recognizes them.”
[11:00] Stop Chasing Press — Produce It
Jamie:
I always say: don’t chase press — produce it.
You need to be producing your own visibility. Your content should contain points of view that could become headlines, quotes, or media talking points.
If you consistently share thoughtful opinions and relevant insights, you become more appealing to the media ecosystem.
Karen:
I love that idea — creating headlines that could be pulled directly into media stories.
And honestly, AI can help with that. Not to replace your voice, but to help sharpen hooks and headlines.
If writing hooks isn’t your strength, there’s no shame in using AI strategically.
[13:15] Write Like the Media You Want to Attract
Jamie:
If you want to be featured in Forbes, write like someone who belongs in Forbes.
If a reporter lands on your LinkedIn or social media, they should immediately understand:
- Who you are
- Who you help
- The transformation you create
That clarity makes you appealing.
Karen:
Exactly. People don’t really care about you — they care about what you can do for them.
Your content needs to answer:
“Why should I care?”
[15:00] Jamie’s KNOWN Framework
Jamie:
I’ve never shared this publicly before, but I use a framework called KNOWN.
- K — Know Your Message
- N — Nurture Your Presence
- O — Own Your Story
- W — Widen Your Reach
- N — Nail the Moment
You need to consistently show up, build community, share your story, and be ready when opportunities appear.
And vulnerability matters.
The people speaking openly about layoffs, challenges, parenting struggles, or personal experiences are often the ones gaining traction because authenticity creates connection.
[17:30] Your Point of View Is Your Superpower
Jamie:
Today, people are building brands around their lived experiences and perspectives.
One woman became known nationally for discussing estranged parent-child relationships. Another built an entire business around formula feeding after struggling with breastfeeding.
They created visibility by owning their stories.
Karen:
And they stood out because they were willing to be vulnerable.
People don’t want generic “vanilla” messaging anymore. They want a disruptive angle — something memorable and real.
[20:00] Why Being Different Matters
Karen:
I always tell people: what makes you different is often what makes you magnetic.
I joked that I’d love to meet a realtor who markets herself by cleansing homes with sage, crystals, feng shui, and Reiki before selling them.
Because you know what? Somebody would absolutely say:
“That’s MY realtor.”
Jamie:
Exactly. Your hobbies, passions, and interests can become part of your positioning.
Maybe you’re a realtor who rides horses and showcases equestrian properties in a unique way. That differentiation matters.
[24:00] Magnetism vs. Constant Hustling
Karen:
When your brand messaging is clear and aligned, people start coming to you.
That’s when your visibility creates magnetism instead of exhaustion.
Opportunities, speaking invitations, podcast requests — they start finding you.
[26:45] AI, SEO, and Becoming More Discoverable
Jamie:
As an entrepreneur today, you also have to think about AI search and discoverability.
I recently paid for a media placement because I wanted a trusted publication backlink that clearly positioned me for AI search results.
That article now reinforces how AI platforms understand and categorize my expertise.
But if you pursue paid media, make sure it lands in Google News — not random sponsored placements.
Relevancy matters.
[28:45] Preparation Creates Freedom
Jamie:
Preparation provides freedom — not performance.
You don’t want to chase press. You want to be ready for it.
Karen:
That’s why we help clients prepare media assets in advance:
- Podcast interview questions
- Media bios
- Headshots
- Drive folders
- Talking points
When opportunities show up, you’re ready.
[30:00] Becoming “Known”
Jamie:
What I really help people do is become known.
I evaluate:
- Their messaging
- Their positioning
- Their uniqueness
- Their visibility gaps
- Their content strategy
Because most people aren’t hearing “no” because they lack expertise. They’re hearing “no” because they haven’t packaged themselves effectively yet.
[34:00] Where to Find Jamie
Jamie:
You can find me on YouTube at On Cam Ready.
I share:
- Media training
- Visibility tips
- Podcast evaluations
- Producer insights
- Interviews with PR experts and television personalities
And I’m offering listeners a free call if they download my visibility bundle from my website.
[36:00] Final Thoughts
Karen:
What I want people to take away today is this:
You do not have to become an expert in everything yourself.
There are people like Jamie who can help you elevate your visibility, your presence, and your professionalism.
And sometimes one small improvement — like lighting or positioning — changes everything.
Thank you so much for being here, Jamie.
Jamie:
Thank you for having me.
Karen:
And thank you all for listening. We’ll see you next Wednesday at noon Eastern for another episode of Good Girls Get Rich: The Conversations.
