So I want to talk a little bit about something that came up in my shoes linked up program recently, I was talking to one of my students on a private one on one session. And as we were talking about this, I was like oh my gosh, this is such a good podcast topic. So here we are, we’re doing it right. The very first thing that we do, well, I’m going to say that the second thing we do once we get started with people, right? Once we’ve gotten clear on their mission, we’ve gotten clear on who their avatar is, we’ve got clear on all that the first thing we do when we’re moving into their strategy is look for low hanging fruit. And what that looks like on our LinkedIn or LinkedIn program is Who are you already connected to? And a lot of times, in fact, almost every time, the person I’m talking to says, Wow, those people, the people I’m connected to are not the people that I really need moving forward. Or they’re people that I used to work with, or they don’t really even know this about me, right? Can you relate to that? Almost every time. And almost every time. When they do this, I kind of push them I’m like, Yeah, but do me a favor, and spend the next week or two, just going through the people you’re already connected to, and see if there’s any opportunity to see if there’s anybody that you’d love to get on the phone with. And almost every time on our next call together. They’re like, Holy moly, Karen, you’re right. There’s so many good people I’m already connected to, you know, we spend so much time looking to build our networks. And sometimes we forget that there’s already people that are amazing, that we’re connected to, right, connecting to new people is met. And I want it to never be cold calling. But it’s a little colder, right? But reconnecting is warm, reconnecting is warm. And that is what I love. Because that’s the biggest opportunities we have right? Can you relate to this? Do you look at your existing LinkedIn network and think it’s just full of people I used to now it’s not really anybody that’s going to be any value of any value to me now, right? Maybe you want to just take a check it out, maybe just check it out. Because imagine, this is like a spam free outreach, because you’re already connected to these people, right? You’re already connected to these people. And sometimes you’re connected to amazing people. Maybe when we connected to them, they weren’t doing what they’re doing now, right? But when you’re just saying, hey, we’ve been connected here on LinkedIn for a while we met at a conference, we I don’t maybe even just have no idea why we’re connected. But somehow we’re connected, right? But when you do it that way. These are the this is the this is the low hanging fruit that leads to very, very powerful conversations. So let’s talk about what that looks like. I want to first really dive into that connecting versus reconnecting. Okay, so connecting on LinkedIn, which is what everybody’s always looking to do, right? How do I build my network? How do I build my network and of course, I want you to build your network. I totally want you to build your network, completely full of amazing people, right? And I want you to do it as warm as we possibly can no cold calling, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. There’s always ways to connect with people, but it’s still never going to be as sizzling hot, as Connecting, right? Maybe it’s people you used to work with. And when you go through your existing network, you see that they’re doing a new role. And maybe that new role can be pivotal to what you’re doing, right? Maybe as you go through your network, you can look and you’ll see somebody, like, left a company, and now we’re starting had started their own company. And maybe again, somebody you’d love to talk about, and hear what they’re up to. And maybe there’s some collaboration opportunities, right? Somebody you can reconnect with, maybe it’s somebody you met at a conference, and you know how that goes. You know, if you don’t intentionally put the time in afterwards, sometimes you make these great connections, and then you just don’t remember to reconnect, reconnect, right? reconnecting is the low hanging fruit, right. So I’m not saying don’t do any connecting. But please make sure that you’re also reconnecting. So let’s talk about how you can do that. Honestly, if you’ve listened before, then you know that I am never going to say connect with 100 people a week, I want you to only connect with a few people each week. So what does that mean? That means that you can take an hour, the first of the month, first week of every month, just take an hour, and go through your existing network, and take a pen and a pencil write and write down 20 people that you want to reconnect with over the course of the month, okay, I don’t want you to do it all at once, because I want you to actually have time to follow up with them, right. And if you do it all at once, you’re just swamping yourself. So then what you do is the on every Monday, or however you want to schedule this, right? reconnect to five of those people, right? You’ve already done all the research, do the research all at once, when your head’s in it, research for you can research for 40 people and give yourself two months of this, right? But But spend some time looking to see who you have already connected with, that you might want to reconnect with and just make a list. Just make a list, right? Because that way, you’re you’re maximizing your time, you may have heard, I think it was Episode 179, just a couple weeks ago, we talked about I want this to be I want your business to be filled with ease, right? If I said to you, every week, I want you to do this research, you’re not going to do it. But if you take two hours, once a month, or even every two months, cuz I’m telling you this is this happens fast, and then make this list and all you have to do is once a week is go in and do that reconnecting. Okay, so let’s talk about that. The third thing is actually doing the reconnecting, right. So what does that look like? I mentioned a few already. Maybe they’re people you met at a chamber of commerce that you used to live at, and you don’t live there anymore. So you haven’t really seen them in a while. But when you checked out their profile, when you were doing that research, right? Maybe you saw they’re doing something cool, reconnect and say, you know, john, wow, I had no idea that you left ABC Company, I’d love to hear what you’re up to, you know, I’m doing some pretty interesting things, too. There might be some opportunities to collaborate here, right? reconnect, maybe you were interviewed on a podcast a year or two ago, and you’re connected to the host of that podcast, and maybe they’re doing a new show. Or maybe they’re now maybe they have a show on, you know, some Internet TV station or on the radio, or maybe they’ve got a magazine out, maybe there’s another opportunity to be featured in front of their audience. What I love about LinkedIn is we can meet people that can connect us to other people’s audiences, right? So now you’re reconnecting and you’re saying, wow, you know, I remember that show we did a few years ago, I think I got three clients from that show. You know, that was so great. I would love to hear what you’re up to. Because it looks like you’re doing some really interesting things. Tell me more about this magazine. Because I think there’s a lot of synergy in what we do. Right? So you’re not selling them, right? You’re just connecting with people that you think might have an audience of people that can you can put in, they can put you in front of, or whatever else that looks like, you know, the last thing I want you doing is connecting with people and saying, Hey, you know, it’s been a while since we talked last time I saw you, I was selling life insurance. Now I’m selling cell phone service needs cell phone service, like no, no, no, no, no, no, we’re not doing that. Right. We’re never ever ever doing that. We are just connecting, or in this case, reconnecting with people to just catch up and see how can we support each other? Sometimes it’s Listen, here’s what I do. You know, I support women on that with LinkedIn marketing, I really help women create powerful relationships that really build their their credibility and their influence and their income. Right? Who do you know? So I’m saying who do you know not? Is this you? Right? So and then, of course, they’re gonna say the same to you. And you’ve got to think is there somebody you can connect them to, right? You’re reconnecting with these people in a powerful way so that you can expand your business, expand your career, expand your life, right? The reason I only want you to do this a few times each week is because I actually want you to get on the phone with as many of these people as you can. To be honest, five people each week when you’re reconnecting like this might be too many, right? depending on how much time you have. Remember, I want this to be full of ease, right? So start with five. See how it goes. I don’t want you to be missing these opportunities. I got to tell you my LinkedIn inbox is the most valuable piece of real estate in my entire business, because that’s where all the business is happening. So I am on top of that, not that I’m not on top of my email, I can’t even pretend that I’m on top of my inbox by my regular email inbox. I know I’m not saying it’s less valuable it is I know if you email me there that your message is important. But it gets buried right? On my LinkedIn inbox, it’s where all the business is happening. So that’s why I want you to reconnect with five people each week. So let’s recap this a little bit. Really think about, instead of just focusing on building out your network and connecting to new people, think about reconnecting to people that you’re already connected to, for whatever reason, you may not even remember how you’re connected, right? The next thing I want you to do is spend an hour a month, just researching 20 people that you want to reconnect with, okay, and then each week, reconnect with five of those people, five of those 20, right? If it’s somebody that you’re connected to, and you don’t know how you’re connected, you can flat out say, Mary, you know what, we’re connected here on LinkedIn. And honestly, I can’t even figure out how I don’t remember how I do see that we have these few people in common or I see we live in the same area. But you know what, it really looks like you’re doing some really cool things. I’d love to hear more about what you’re doing. Right? I think there might be some opportunities for us to collaborate. So you can even if you’re connected to people that you don’t know, it’s still a reconnection, because you were you’re already connected on LinkedIn. Does that make sense? You know, I know you’re seeing a ton of spam on LinkedIn, I know that this is not that this is not that right? Maybe you’re a coach, and you’re looking for more discovery calls. Maybe you’re about to publish a book and you’re looking for your book launch people, right? Imagine seeing your calendar, full of calls with amazing people, people that you’re reconnecting with. Truly, this is low hanging fruit. And it’s incredible. And it’s often and almost always overlooked. I don’t I want this for you, I want you to have that full calendar. These are some of the kinds of strategies that we teach in our she’s linked up program, we you know, we work on getting you on the phone with people that can can just open up open up doors that you just never thought were going to be able to be open to you before, right? If this kind of strategy fits into the way you want to market your business. I would love to talk to you. Okay, we offer complimentary calls. They are one hour long. We want to spend time getting to know you, we want to spend time, right relationships, we want to spend time trying to understand what are you looking to accomplish? Do we think this is something we can help you with? If it is of course we’re going to tell you what that looks like. Because we want to support you if it if it’s a good fit. If it’s not a good fit, we’re cool with that too. I would say we only make offers to maybe even half the people that we talk to, but everybody that we talked to, we provide value to so just go to Karen Yankovich comm slash call, grab a spot on our calendar, we would love to talk to you and see if supporting you as some strategies like this can really be the thing that can change your business in the upcoming year.
