About This Episode & Highlights:

If your marketing is working but attracting the wrong clients, you are not alone.

Many women entrepreneurs reach a stage where their content is getting engagement, their visibility is growing, and their calendar is filling up. But something still feels off.

The clients are not quite right. The conversations feel heavier than they should. And instead of feeling excited, you feel drained.

This is where marketing misalignment shows up.

The good news is this. Your marketing is not broken. It is simply attracting the wrong clients because it is no longer aligned with who you are today.

What It Means When Your Marketing Is Working but Attracting the Wrong Clients

On the surface, everything looks like it is working.

You are posting consistently
People are engaging with your content
Leads are coming in

However, results tell a deeper story.

You may notice that:

  • You are repeating yourself often
  • You are justifying your pricing
  • You are attracting clients who are not ideal

This happens because your marketing is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

It is just designed for an earlier version of you.

Why Your Marketing Is Attracting the Wrong Clients

As your business grows, your identity evolves.

Your:

  • Expertise becomes stronger
  • Standards become higher
  • Vision becomes clearer

But if your messaging does not evolve at the same pace, your marketing continues to attract the wrong clients.

In other words, your content is still speaking to people who need the version of you that you used to be.

This is the core reason your marketing is working but attracting the wrong clients.

The Hidden Problem With Helpful Content

Helpful content is often the foundation of visibility.

You share tips
You educate your audience
You provide value

While this builds trust, it can also position you in a way that attracts the wrong clients.

Instead of attracting buyers, you may attract:

  • People looking for free advice
  • People who want to figure things out on their own
  • People who are not ready to invest

This is how your marketing can perform well but still bring in misaligned opportunities.

Signs Your Marketing Is Attracting the Wrong Clients

If you are not sure whether this applies to you, look for these signs:

  • You are getting inquiries but they are not the right fit
  • Discovery calls feel draining instead of energizing
  • You feel like you need to explain your value repeatedly
  • Clients say yes but you feel unsure after

These signs indicate that your marketing is attracting the wrong clients, even if it appears successful.

Why More Visibility Is Not the Solution

Many people believe the answer is to be more visible.

However, visibility alone will not fix this issue.

Visibility acts as an amplifier. It increases whatever message is already present.

If your messaging is misaligned, more visibility will attract more of the wrong clients.

This leads to more conversations that do not convert and more frustration in your business.

This Is Not Just Strategy. It Is Identity

At its core, this is not only a marketing issue. It is an identity shift.

You have evolved into a new level of leadership, expertise, and confidence.

However, your messaging may still reflect who you were before.

This creates a gap between who you are and how you show up online.

Your audience responds to what they see, not what you know internally.

The Question That Will Shift Everything

Instead of asking how to get better clients, ask yourself:

Where am I still showing up as the version of me I have already outgrown?

This question brings awareness to the real issue and opens the door for change.

How to Start Attracting the Right Clients

To stop attracting the wrong clients, your messaging needs to reflect your current identity.

Start by:

  • Raising the level of your conversation
  • Speaking to higher level problems
  • Owning your expertise more directly

When your messaging aligns with who you are now, your marketing will begin attracting the right clients naturally.

If your marketing is working but attracting the wrong clients, it is not a failure.

It is a sign of growth.

You have evolved, and your messaging needs to catch up.

When you realign your marketing with your current identity, everything changes. Your content becomes clearer, your clients feel more aligned, and your business feels easier.

If you are ready to take the next step, start by reviewing your recent clients and asking yourself if they truly felt aligned.

[00:00] When Everything Looks Right… But Feels Off

Karen:
Hello, hello, and welcome to the Good Girls Get Rich podcast. I’m your host, Karen Yankovich.

I want you to think about those moments where everything looks great on paper. Your calendar is full. Your content is getting engagement. People are reaching out.

But then… you get on calls, you’re in the DMs, and it just feels hard. Harder than it should be.

Maybe you’re constantly explaining things you’ve already explained a hundred times.
Maybe you’re justifying your pricing (which drives me crazy).
Or maybe you’re attracting really nice people… but they’re not your right-fit clients.

And that’s the part that starts to mess with your head—because you didn’t do anything wrong.

[02:30] The Real Problem: Your Marketing Is Working… For the Old You

Karen:
Sometimes the problem isn’t that your marketing isn’t working.

Sometimes it’s working perfectly—for a version of you that you’ve outgrown.

I see this all the time with high-achieving women.

You’ve built something real. You’ve got expertise. You’ve got visibility. But somewhere along the way, your message became… safe. Helpful. Practical.

And listen—those aren’t bad things.

But they may not reflect who you are now.

Because you’re not just “helpful.”
You’re a powerhouse. A leader. A world-changer.

And when your message stays safe, your marketing keeps attracting clients who need the old version of you—not the woman you’ve become.

[05:00] The “Helpful Content” Trap

Karen:
Let’s talk about something I see especially on LinkedIn.

You simplify your message so more people understand it. You lead with:

  • “3 tips”
  • “5 ways”
  • “How to…”

And yes—it works.

It builds an audience. It builds trust.

But it also does something else.

It positions you as the person people learn from… not the person they hire.

So your inbox fills with:

  • People who want to “pick your brain”
  • DIY-ers
  • People who need reassurance before investing

And you’re sitting there thinking… how did this happen?

You didn’t lose your edge.

You edited it out—in the name of being helpful.

[08:00] Visibility Isn’t the Fix

Karen:
You’ve heard me say: you need to be more visible.

And yes—you do.

But here’s the truth:

Visibility is an amplifier.

It doesn’t fix misalignment—it magnifies it.

So if your messaging is off, more visibility just brings:

  • More wrong-fit leads
  • More conversations that go nowhere
  • More exhaustion

And this is where so many brilliant women get stuck.

[10:30] This Isn’t Strategy—It’s Identity

Karen:
This isn’t just about strategy.

It’s about identity.

You’ve evolved.

Your:

  • Experience has deepened
  • Standards have changed
  • Capacity has expanded

But your marketing?
It’s still loyal to who you used to be.

So now there’s a gap.

A gap between who you are… and how you’re showing up.

And your audience is responding to what they see—not who you’ve become.

[13:00] The Question That Changes Everything

Karen:
So the real question isn’t:

“How do I get better clients?”
Or even “How do I get more clients?”

It’s this:

“Where am I still showing up as the woman I used to be?”

Because when you answer that—you can shift everything.

[15:00] You’re Not Broken—You’ve Outgrown Your Positioning

Karen:
Let me be really clear:

There is nothing wrong with you.
You’re not blocked.
You’re not doing it wrong.

You’ve simply outgrown your positioning.

And this is actually the moment where things get really good.

Because once you see it—you can’t unsee it.

And that means you can shift it.

[17:00] Your Next Step: Awareness First

Karen:
Here’s what I want you to do:

Look at your last few clients or conversations.

Ask yourself:

“Was this a full-body YES?”

No judgment. Just awareness.

Because awareness is where everything starts to change.

[18:30] What’s Coming Next

Karen:
This is part one of a two-part series.

Next week, we’re going to talk about:

  • How to realign your messaging
  • How to adjust your LinkedIn presence
  • How to attract the right clients—magnetically

No chasing. No convincing. No over-explaining.
