I just did the scariest thing I’ve ever done.

I walked away from a six figure per year gig with consistent income.

My friends and family think I’m crazy. They’re supportive, but they do NOT understand.

Did I mention the job had fully paid benefits and a pension?

Yup. The people in my life think I’m nuts.

Except one group of people.

In the spring of 2012, I started watching a free video series put out by Marie Forleo.

Have you heard of her? I hadn’t. At the time I was helping a friend market some workshops, so her business marketing plans were interesting to me. My corporate experience is in sales and marketing, but I really had no background in marketing online.

There I was: I had a great 6 figure corporate job, I was a single mom of 4 with two kids still in school. My job paid the bills and had great benefits but I was asking myself: “Is this IT? Am I really planning to spend the rest of my working life leaving home at 6am, and not getting home till 6 pm?”

I wanted to the option to live life on my terms.  

But one thing was clear to me. I couldn’t take the plunge and hope it would turn out OK – I needed to replace my corporate income with my business BEFORE I left the job. Too many people were depending on me for me to risk everything.

Marie’s videos REALLY intrigued me, and with NO idea what I was going to do with this training, other than help my friend, I shelled out the money and enrolled in Marie Forleo’s B-School. Holy moly, this was different than any other training I ever had in my entire life! (I was 51 at the time, so I’d been to a ton).  Not only was there step by step training for things like websites, social media, and online marketing, there was this huge worldwide community at my fingertips.

I was in marketing geek heaven!

Let’s fast forward three years.

I now run a solid 6 figure business that I built part time.

I have a strong base of steady corporate clients and I run several successful social media coaching programs.

I just finished a tour speaking for the Conferences for Women, three locations with over 25,000 women in attendance in total. I was on conference billing with women like Hillary Clinton, Robin Roberts, Diane Keaton, Lupita Nyong’o.

But I didn’t do all of this alone! I had an ENORMOUS amount of help from the training I received in Marie Forleo’s B-School and from having access to the smartest group of women entrepreneurs I know.

I’ve hired some, I’ve been hired BY some, and I’ve also built amazing partnerships with others, from joint launches to helping each other build our online presence to collaborating on new projects together.

This B-School community has kept me going strong from day one, helping and supporting and providing for my success throughout the past four years.

THESE were the people who were cheering me on.

THESE were the people who were on the phone with me at 6AM to help me beef up my sales before I took the financial hit.

THESE were the people that talked me off the cliff over and over again.

And I am confident that I have the tools to be successful. Marie’s tagline is “create a business and life you love” and that’s just what I did!

I never thought it was possible five years ago. BUT, I worked my tail off in B-School and I re-launched my business. I built it up to well over 6 figures, while still working a demanding corporate gig, which I was then able to leave, knowing I had already built a secure foundation. And I did it using the knowledge I gained in Marie Forleo’s B-School. Without that, I’d still be in cubicle city.

B-School was the single biggest thing I’ve ever done to help my business grow and to achieve my dreams of independence. But it was terrifying at the time.  Back then, there was no one I could ask, I just had to go with my gut.
