141 – Strip Down to Dive Deep

This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen discusses simplifying the tasks in your business.

It’s easy to get caught up in the routine of performing certain tasks just because they’re on the list of things to do. Are those things actually benefiting you or your business, though?

About the Episode:

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a crazy time for everyone. It has also given a lot of us more time on our hands. Instead of going to network meetings and going on lunch dates, we’re stuck at home. Thankfully, we can use this extra time to reevaluate our business, remove what we don’t enjoy, and start doing more of what we love.

First, ask yourself the question, “What do I really enjoy doing?” Don’t ask what you’re good at or skilled at. Ask what you enjoy. Then start focusing on what you love doing!

Second, take a look at your calendar. What events on your calendar make you cringe? What can’t you stand doing? Start cutting those events out! If you hate them and they’re not beneficial, don’t do them.

Lastly, lean into your pricing. Instead of selling multiple low-cost items and services, dream big and ask yourself, “How could I make this more valuable and sell it for a higher price?” By raising your prices, you can make more money while spending less time and effort. This takes guts, but, in the end, it’s worth it.

It’s easy to clutter our business with tasks that don’t really bring any value. Start looking at your company, cut out the things that don’t matter, and start living with more freedom!

And let us know. So this episode is a topic that’s near and dear to my heart. We are recording a word this episode’s going live in the fall early winter of 2020. And many of us are thinking about what 2021 look like for us, right 2020 has been certainly a crazy year for me. And I know probably for you in so many ways. You know, Who would have ever thought that we’d be sitting here and still be wondering when we were going to see people and go to in person events again. And it’s been crazy, right? So you know, I’ve had to do a lot of reimagining in my business. And I had to do I chose to do and that’s actually the topic that I want to talk about here today. Because with this pandemic, I mean, I’ve always worked from home. So that’s not different for me. But what is different for me is that I don’t go anywhere, right. So maybe I was going to Chamber of Commerce meetings, and that would take a couple hours out of a week. Or maybe I was meeting, you know, having lunch dates or whatever. And you know, even just even if I was the lunch was only an hour, chances are there was a drive to meet people, right. So, you know, there’s just been a lot more space, even just in my work days. And having that space in my work days has really allowed me to reevaluate how I spend my time. Because I know that I was on, you know, as much as I would like to think I wasn’t I was on the hamster wheel, I was doing a lot of busy work. To what end I don’t even know why I was doing a lot of the things I was doing. And when you look in hindsight, but it’s just on your to do list, you do it. Or you’ve taken courses or you hear you know, the Guru’s say, this is what we should be doing. And, you know, you just do it because that’s what you’re told to do. Right? And I’m a rule follower, I follow the rules. I do what people tell me to do. But having the space that 2020 has given me in my calendar has really allowed me to reimagine my business. And what that looks like for me is I have stripped absolute freakin lucidly everything out of my business. And I’ve put all of my attention into my she’s linked up program. And the reason it’s important to talk about this is because I didn’t have the courage to do this beforehand. Because you’d be like, Oh, you know, the bank account is starting to slip, I better find something I can sell for $47 or 497. Or, you know, I’m going to run this membership thing and it’s going to be $50 a month that I’m going to get 500 people in it. Or, you know, you know, you know the drill, right? So I just made a conscious decision that I just wasn’t going to do that anymore. And you know, listen as an entrepreneur. I made a decision early on in my entrepreneur journey, that I wanted to keep my personal overhead low because I wanted the freedom to not ever not have to be stressed out about money, right. So my, my personal overhead is very low, which means that, you know, if there are swings in my business, it shouldn’t make that big of a difference. But, you know, I do have business costs to have to pay out every month. And that needs to happen every month. So it was a little scary to make the decision to kind of just cut everything else out. But I did, because what I was finding was when she’s linked up was it was originally get linked up. And those of you that weren’t get linked up, if you haven’t, if we haven’t touched base, you totally want to reach out to me, because we got lots of things happening, and you’ve got lifetime access, even to the she’s linked up program. So you want to definitely reach out to info at Karen Yankovich comm and schedule a call to see what’s new. But when it was get linked up, it was a digital program. And it was a six module program. It was similar to what it is now, but it was a little more disjointed. Because I would have like Module One is the profile. Module Two is learning about how to do you know, groups or whatever, whatever it was. And what we did was we were able to shift it to being more of a journey than all this disjointed stuff. But it was still just a digital program. And what I was finding was people were getting stuck, they were getting stuck on module one is it’s hard to do your own LinkedIn profile. Right? And then they if you’re getting stuck on module one doesn’t matter if you paid $1 or a million dollars for it. You didn’t get your money’s worth. Right. And I don’t know about you, but I have a hard drive full of digital programs that that that I did get my money’s worth on not because the programs weren’t any good. But because it wasn’t the right. It wasn’t the right delivery mode for me. Right. So as we started to reimagine this program, we focused it more on women. And that happened about a year ago pre pandemic. But we also started looking at Okay, well, if we have to start to if we’re going to write your profile for you, then the investment has to change. And that took a little bravery on my part, right. And then we just continue to and then we found Okay, we were just giving people too much time to do it. And what that meant was, they weren’t doing it, right. Like you know what it’s like, if I gave you a gigantic bucket, you filled up a gigantic bucket, if I give you a little bucket of time, you use a little bucket of time. So we decided we really had to limit the time that we had people in the program so that they were achieving what we mutually wanted to achieve what they wanted to achieve what we can help them achieve. But then we know we needed to, we knew we needed to even do more. So we added some one on one support, so that we can guide them through this so that we could keep them on task that we can keep them achieving what they wanted to achieve at the end of the program. And we just I mean, I can go on and on about the things we’ve added to this program over the last year, all of which increased the investment, and which was scary. But here’s the thing, it didn’t just increase the investment, it increased the success rate. And the successes that people were that people are having in this program are well exceeding the investment even at the increased investment level. Right. And that is win win win. So can you relate to this a little bit? Can you relate to doing what you were like following the rules and doing all the things you were in all the programs you were given and dialing in, and you know, doing all the things you were told to do. But then, like just not just it just didn’t seem like it was in alignment or an integrity, right, just having a checklist of this stuff. I spent years doing the opposite of this, I spent years doing all kinds of programs, maybe some of you guys might have been in our social media PR program that I ran with Christina Davis, for a couple years where we had a whole library of training, it was an amazing program. But it was a lot. It was a low price. There was a ton of content in there, we were completely overwhelming people with content, all of which needed to be updated all the time, right? still creating content after content that needed to be updated, flying all over the country to do sales meetings that were shiny objects, right? Which How much time does that take out of your life? Now I’m not leaving my house, my business revenues are almost 10 times what they were during that time. And my clients are getting bigger wins. So it’s a win win win. Right? So that’s what I want you to think about as you’re thinking about what you’re planning for 2021. And I’m going to dive in a little bit and talk a little bit about how I’ve done this and how you can maybe do some of the things if you feel called to that you might want to do some of these things, same things. And the first thing I want you to think about is what is it that you really want to be doing? Okay, not what you’re good at, not what other people are telling you to do. But what you really want to be doing, you know, just going back to the social media PR program with Christina, you know, I love doing that. But I love LinkedIn. I mean, yeah, can I talk Can I talk about Twitter and Instagram and all those things. I absolutely We can. But when I talk about LinkedIn and the power, it has to get you the higher ticket clients. That’s what I’m passionate about. Right? So I was doing a lot of things that I did enjoy the work that I was doing. But I wasn’t as passionate about just being a social media generalist, as I am about focusing and dialing it in on LinkedIn. Right now, I don’t know what that means for you. But what think about what that means for you, you know, I mean, I have a lot of Twitter followers, I have a lot of followers on other platforms. And I do get business from those platforms. I mean, listen, I could talk about podcasting, right. My podcast is a big part of my business. It’s the front end of my business, we get a lot of business that comes in from this podcast. But I can’t be all things to all people. Right. And not that I don’t love talking about podcasting, because I do. But now what I do is I talk about LinkedIn, as it relates to growing your podcast, right? See how that see the shift there that the subtle shift there. And it’s a little again, it takes a little bravery to kind of cut all that stuff out, right? But just but not worry. Don’t worry about cutting stuff out right now. Just thinking of just think now about what is it that you love doing? What is it that if I said to you, you could be doing this all day long, you’d be happy to do it. Now, here’s a little bit about what that means for me. And if you’re in the she’s linked up program, or you weren’t get linked up, and you haven’t logged in and seeing the updated content recently, or if you haven’t been in if you’re not in the program yet, then what you may not know is that one of the things that I did was I started to incorporate mindfulness into the program. Yep. It’s a LinkedIn strategy program, right, all his left brain strategy. But we started to infuse mindfulness, because I know that if you come into the your strategy, your LinkedIn strategy, with your left brain, right with saying, You know what, I want five of these and 10 of these, and I want to make this much money bla bla, bla, bla, bla, it’s kind of like a new year’s resolution, right? You started January 1, and you’re going to lose that 10 pounds this year, but you don’t do anything, because you’re still the same person you were the day before. I need you to be thinking, like the person that has already achieved it. Like the person is already living less those 10 pounds, like the person that’s already running a multiple six or seven figure business, I need you to be that person. And I know that it’s your mindset that I need to hit you up with. First, I need you to be thinking like that person, I need you to be showing up on LinkedIn like that person. Yes, are there LinkedIn strategies and tasks? Of course there are. But I love spirituality and mindset and mindfulness and all of the right brain stuff that I interact with, with the left brain stuff. I am sort of I’m a Reiki Master, right? I’m certified as a dream coach. These are things I love to do in my spare time, but I’ve never had the courage to build it into my business before. This is what I really wanted to do. So now I’m doing it. Now when we reimagined the she’s linked up program, we infused an entire thread of mindset through the entire program, we’re actually even giving one on one mindset strategy coaching sessions, to our our students, because I know, I know that that’s where they’re going to have the success. But I had to stop and think about what I really wanted to be doing, not what other people thought I should do. because trust me, if I came to many of the people in my life and said, I want to start talking about like, third chakra energy and my LinkedIn program, they’d been like, What are you talking about? Right? But that’s what I wanted to do. And you know, what, the people that have embraced the mindset piece, are the people having the biggest successes in the program, right? See how this works. And it came down to me doing what I really love to be doing. And and that’s what I want you to do. If you could dream big, what is it that you really want to be doing in 2021? and start to think about that, if you’re listening to this on replay, just insert whatever Year is coming up, or the next 12 months doesn’t have to be a calendar year. Okay? But that’s the first thing I want you to do is really spend some time thinking about and dreaming big about what you really want to be doing in the next year. The second thing I want you to do is look at your calendar and see what is it that you that makes you cringe when you see it on your calendar? What is it that makes you cringe when you see it on your calendar? Those are the things we’re going to start to rip out. Because the more space you have in your calendar to do this amazing thing you identified in the first thing we talked about here, the better success you’re going to have with that. So what it means is you’ve got to start letting go with things. And you know, one of the things that I absolutely love to do is one on one, like live work with people like I love meeting people, we rent a conference room. I’ve had people fly to me, I’ve flown to them. And we sit in a room for a day and we brainstorm. It’s a high ticket service and that is the high ticket service that I was selling in 2019 and 2018 and I was kind of leading with that for most of the work that I was doing. And I still love doing that. But obviously, I had to let go of that. And this pandemic world we’re living in, because you know, it just, it isn’t needed. But what I’m now able to do is I can still do that work. But it’s before it was, it was something I had to lead with. Now, it’s something that I can put on, like, put on the back burner, and say, if there’s an opportunity, I’m happy to do this with you, okay? And it’s not that I cringe when I see it, those are really the only two things I’m doing. But I was forced to kind of let it go because of the pandemic. But when I was forced to let it go, it’s not that I cringe, it gave me the space to to build out my program. Okay. But here’s the thing I gave up, I gave up another a lot of other things. We were selling a LinkedIn profile program for I think, 100 bucks for a lot of years. And there was a whole funnel that went to it. Some of you might have seen that the first three things you do on LinkedIn video series, and that took you to the opportunity to purchase this $97 program that had you doing your own profile. But remember what I said earlier, that people don’t want to do their own profile. So they were buying that program, and they weren’t doing it anyway. And I was providing an insane amount of support to this $97 program. Right? So nobody was winning, I wasn’t winning, because it was not making us enough money to even keep the business open. And the clients weren’t winning, because it’s hard to do your own LinkedIn profile. Right? So. So those are the some of the things that we let go. And now we are stepping into this, when we stepped into really just putting all of our efforts around one amazing, incredible program. So what is it that you’re doing, I want you to look at that, because let me just tell you something, I did this exercise a couple years ago. And when I listed all of the different things that my business was offering, my business coach was like, You got to be kidding me, who’s doing all this work? I’m like, I know, I don’t have any idea. And this was this wasn’t even including the social media PR stuff that gets seen be heard stuff. This was just my own business, right? Like who can be successful at that? Well, you’re doing a million different things. So start with what you don’t want to do, start to get rid of that. And that gives you more space to make Number The first thing the first step in this process even more successful. So look at list out everything that brought you money in 2020, or whatever the year, you’re listening to this and look at it and say, Can I cut half of this out? What are the red line it red line, it doesn’t mean it goes away, it just means that you’re going to look at that list and say, What if I only did these three things instead of all six of these things, right. So that’s the second thing I want you to do. And the third thing I want you to do, and this is really where it takes guts and bravery is to lean into your pricing. Think about how amazing it would be to enroll a few higher paying clients each month, instead of being on the hamster wheel with funnels with 47 into 97 into 497. You know, ladder type products that works for some people. And I’m cool with that if it’s working for you. But if it’s not working for you, if it’s stress for you, If like me, you’re looking at this $97 product going oh my gosh, how do people support their $97 products with the level of support it needs and you know, still make any money. So have any profits, right? So lean into your pricing as you go back to the first step in this program. And really Dream Big about what you can offer. And that one thing that you’re really good at that you want to offer. Just keep making it juicy or and yummier. And don’t be afraid to put a price point on that that will allow you to really give it your all, I want you to really give it your all because you know you’ve if you’ve listened to this podcast before, you know what I think about hitting six figures, I love when you hit your first six figures, but that is not enough money to live here, at least not in the US. Okay? Because by the time you’re as you’re being an entrepreneur or an entrepreneur, that is not the same as a six figure paycheck, okay, and this can be done during these pandemic times 100%. Okay, so just think a little bit about having this. So we’ll, let’s recap this a little bit. You’re going to create this amazing, amazing thing that is right in your wheelhouse, what you love to be doing, and you’re just going to focus on that one thing for now. You’re going to get rid of some of the things that you’ve been doing that are just not serving you or, and or your your clients. And you’re going to lean in to the opportunity that you’ll be giving people at a price point that you can so over deliver, that they can’t wait to do more work with you. Okay, think about how that amazing that could feel. And I’m not saying that I never want anyone ever to do the 4797 497 funnel things, but who knows, I might do it again, someday. What I am saying is flip it, flip it dream big. What kind of amazing service can you offer, filled with all the yumminess you can dream of, and be brave enough to deliver that service at a premium price point. If you do this, right, it’s a no brainer, right? So just imagine this, let’s say that you are a life coach, or some kind of, or legacy you serve women in their 40s. Okay, maybe you’re a life coach, maybe you’re a health coach, maybe you’re a career coach, your focus is women in their 40s. And this woman is now working from home, her husband is home or his power partners is home. Okay, working from home, her kids are home doing school from home at least part of the time, okay. And she’s still working from home. Remember that working from home means she’s still getting a paycheck, okay? She doesn’t have the time or the inclination or the energy for a six month anything or for your digital course, she doesn’t have time for that. So if you’re a life coach or a career coach or a health coach that serves these women, she needs your help now. Okay, it’s worth a lot to her to be able to manage all of that, that we talked about the the partner, the kids that the job the house, it’s worth a ton to her to manage all of that with more ease in her world. I mean, come on, you know, Amazon and meal delivery services are at her house almost every day, right? So there’s that she’s got a paycheck. So the investment isn’t the issue. The issue is you need to be brave enough to create something for her that she’s willing to invest in that will give her fast results. Because we women will pay for results. Okay? And when you’re in your groove, doing what you love doing what you’re great at with people who need you, and over delivering at a premium price point. It’s Win, win win. Do you understand what I’m saying here? Listen, you know that I’m here to support you with this. About the Episode:

In business, there are so many tasks to attend to. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the emails, phone calls, marketing plans, financial meetings… sound familiar?

If you’re a one-person business, it’s time that you create a team. It’s easy to believe the lie, “It’ll just be faster if I do it myself.” Take this mindset, throw it out, and start relying on others who want to help you achieve your goals.

Once you have a team, you’ll find you have more time on your hands to focus on growing your business… that is, of course, if you and your team have good tools to collaborate. Without proper collaboration tools, some tasks might be assigned to too many people while other tasks fall through the cracks.

Xenia Muntean is the CEO of Planable, a content review and marketing collaboration platform that will streamline your social media marketing. It helps keep communication and collaboration about social media marketing all in one place so that everything will get done quickly and efficiently.

Thank you so much for doing this with us.

Xenia Muntean 2:35
Thank you so much, Karen, for having me on the show. I’m very excited to talk to you.

Karen Yankovich 2:40
Well, I you know what, one of the things I love about your just your bio, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know a little bit more about you is how at such an early age, you had big goals, right? Like who at age 20, has a digital marketing agency and is working with Coca Cola, right? It’s it is what we teach here on good girls get rich, like, everybody’s always looking to go bottom up and well. And, you know, we teach, like started, like, look at look for the bigger opportunities, because that funds you to do some of the other things that you need to do. Right. And I love that you did that. Did you do that a native like, tell us a little bit about your journey, what brought you to at age 20 jumping into entrepreneurship at that level?

Xenia Muntean 3:19
And look, I would love to have more inspirational answers to this. But the truth is that, you know, I’m an entrepreneur by accident. So I do not have like a strategical plan I do not have, I wasn’t dreaming of, you know, becoming an entrepreneur when I was, you know, 12 years old. Now, one thing that was, you know, and the books for me or in the plan, I wasn’t finding where I wasn’t dreaming about that. Okay. So, you know, I think what happened was that I grew in that entrepreneurial environment without realizing so I think I learned quite a lot from my mom about creativity and about, you know, building something from scratch, though she wasn’t an entrepreneur, I saw, you know, her drive and her ambition. And I think, you know, that’s, you know, how I got my insights about being an entrepreneur, but I didn’t really have role models, and, you know, business people when I was growing up as role models, so that was, you know, not necessarily something I was dreaming about. But when I was very, you know, young, I was still at university, I got, you know, just by accident, the opportunity to have one of my first clients, and a Coca Cola, luckily, in my home country as a client for social media services. And that’s kind of how it all started. So it wasn’t, you know, something that I meticulously planned and strategically, you know, thought about, and it just happened and I seize the opportunity, and I think that’s, you know, one of the lessons that I, you know, I got from this entire experience was that sometimes it’s extremely important to just show up and to just say yes, and to just, you know, take the opportunity It presents and you know, to yourself, because so many times, you know, there’s opportunities in front of you that you don’t take advantage off. And I think that’s, you know, my lesson that, you know, happened with plantable. Afterwards, when I got the opportunity of starting the business again, it kind of almost happened by accident again. And, you know, I took it, I mean, there’s obviously I worked hard for it. It didn’t come easily. But yes, there is a lesson here about seizing the opportunity. And whenever it presents,

Karen Yankovich 5:32
well, and you know, what, and it and it is, what I love about it is that there had to be some level of confidence, or at least enough confidence to say, I’ll figure this out. Right? And I will, I’ll do that. And that I think, is really what speaks to a successful business venture is having the confidence to, to not wait until you have every single solitary thing figured out. I mean, 100%, I definitely don’t want people jumping into things that they’re not ready to do. But at the same time, you’re never if you wait to become everything to be good. And listen, women, as women do this more than men, I think we have to have everything has to be ready before we say okay, and sometimes that just gets in a way, right?

Xenia Muntean 6:13
Yeah, I can’t agree more with you. And I think it’s also about confidence, but it’s also about courage. Because times in confidence is again, something that we women struggle quite a lot with, especially when we’re extremely young, I still struggle with confidence, and you know, just building, building my confidence and building myself, that’s, that’s something that I have to do every day and growing my confidence is extremely challenging. Even now with, you know, everything that I’ve done, that’s still something that I need to work on. But courage, you know, courage to jump into something encouraged to, to just, you know, courage to realize that you will figure it out, eventually. And this kind of braveness and is probably one one thing to, you know, one lesson to keep in mind.

Karen Yankovich 7:02
It’s amazing. So tell us a little bit about your journey, then. So what, you know, so you’re doing this for other other people. And I’m assuming at some point, right, something was going on in your head, like, there’s got to be a better way. Right. So tell me tell us a little bit about that.

Xenia Muntean 7:17
Yeah, sure. So what happened was that I had this digital marketing agency, and I was building a lot of what we call in the industry, social media calendars, editorial calendars. So they keep that planning what you know, my clients are the brands are going to publish on social media in the next couple of weeks or in the next month. And I felt like the entire process of building those calendars, which was usually happening in like, very clunky spreadsheets, and there was a lot of back and forth over email on what that spreadsheet needs to contain. And a lot of feedback gathering and the approval process with the clients was very fragmented. And I felt like that entire process was just a lot of time was being wasted on inefficient processes and a lot of miscommunications with the client. And I realized that there must be a better way of doing things of collaboratively producing those editorial calendars and coordinating around content. And that’s kind of how plantable, the idea of plantable was born just out of pure necessity and kind of scratching my own itch. And yeah, together with my co founders, we both planning to do just that, to improve the way marketers work together on social media content and social media campaigns. And we’ve been doing that for the past four years, actually, I’ve been working with hundreds, thousands of teens, actually across the world, mostly in the US. And in the UK, helping them just simplify the way they work simplify the way they collaborate on content. And during this the past six months, we you know, this time has been incredibly important for efficient collaboration. And we had Yeah, we had to work with a lot of teams that suddenly, you know, had to go remote, and they suddenly had to figure out how to make it work. So yeah, we’ve been very busy.

Karen Yankovich 9:15
Yeah, oh, my gosh, I love that you’re saying that because I think that, you know, we are we really have to recognize that things have shifted and times have changed, right? And good for you that you’ve recognized that and are stepping up into that space to help people like me, because, you know, like, here’s the thing that i think i think that you know, as an entrepreneur and as someone who understands exactly what you’re doing, and I want to explain it a little better to you, I want to explain a little better, you know, I struggle a little bit with I want to you know, and not not anymore, but as I was building my business I was struggling with I need some support. But the hardest part about getting support as an entrepreneur with your marketing is having your team get your voice, right.

Xenia Muntean 9:54
Yes.

Karen Yankovich 9:55
And also I also did some of this work as you know, when I first started out I was doing social media. management for companies. Similarly, you were, and I would say to my clients all the time, if I don’t get your, if I have off the mark, you need to tell me, like, this isn’t you criticizing me, it’s hard to get your voice. And the only way I’ll know that is if I get feedback from you. And you know, otherwise, I’m just going to keep going. And if we’re off the mark, then this is never gonna work. So it’s so important, especially in the beginning, to have a way to communicate that, right just because, you know, just because I say things out loud, doesn’t mean I like to see it that way. Maybe, in my social posts, or, or even, you know, I was finding things like as the world as the world becomes more of digital, I also feel like it kind of becomes like a little smaller, right? Like, I have my, you know, Jill, Jill, who a lot of the people that was in this podcast are in my programs. No, she’s my online business manager. She’s so much more that to my business. She lives in London. So it’s the English language isn’t an issue, but sometimes the culture is, and she wouldn’t know that. And if I see something, I have to say, No, no, no, I would never, you know, there’s a disconnect with that here in the US. And we can’t say that like that, right. So it’s so important to have a system to kind of communicate around those kinds of things. Because if you’re not communicating around that, then there’s just a lot you’re setting yourself up, I think for for having more problems than you need to

Xenia Muntean 11:25
100% I think feedback is extremely crucial. Whenever you’re, you know, building your own image or building your own online presence, and you’re working with other people to do so. Just creates better ideas, in the end, more diverse ideas, just, you know, brighter ideas, whenever, you know, more people are involved in the process on one side, on the other side, it just gives, you know, the person who’s you know, in charge of things, either if it’s a client, or if it’s a, if you’re building a personal brand, like, you know, potentially you are doing in your own case, it just gives, you know, a lot of peace of mind that everyone is aligned around what it should look like, what it should sound like what type of content needs to be built. It just aligns everyone and you know, gives some kind of like democratic control over over, you know, the output of that particular brand. So I can’t agree more with you. I think, you know, feedback is extremely important. I think feedback in the marketing world hasn’t really evolved since email, and Google Docs. So that’s what we’re trying to, to do to just, you know, set the ground floor for a different way of feedback, a more collaborative and a more visual way,

Karen Yankovich 12:39
I really want you to dive in and tell everybody a little bit more about plantable. But before we do that, I want to just kind of recognize that if you’re listening to this, and you’re an entrepreneur, or you’re, you know, you’re building out your business, you’re stepping up to a new level, you know, building a team to support you to leverage your time is, is one of the most important things that you can do. And, you know, there’s all kinds of different ways to do that. But without investing in things like this tool, or, or like any, you know, without an without a plan to invest, to build your team, you’re gonna run out of gas personally, right. So if you’re at the level where you’re ready to move from six figures, to multiple, six figures, to seven figures, to you know, building a team is, is got to be a part of that plan. And this having tools like this is going to set you up for better success. And that’s why I wanted to talk to Xenia today, because I think that we need to hear this, we need to hear it like especially women, we need to hear that we don’t have to do it all ourselves. Right, that we can get help. And that, you know, sometimes we sometimes I listen, I do this, I get it. And using it, I’d love to hear your your take when I say this, you know, it’s quicker if I just do it myself, or if I do it, you know, it takes me longer to rewrite things than it does to just do it myself. So we get stuck in that and that gets in our way of growth. So tell me what you think when you hear that?

Xenia Muntean 14:05
Yeah, I’ve heard that so many times. And I, honestly, you know, I’ve been doing it also, you know, in the back. I did it in my Yeah, you do. Right. Yeah. So I think you know, the problem with this is that, first of all, it’s kind of a bit of a sign of not trusting the other person if you do you know, like just jumping over them and not letting them do the work, right. If you have someone that is helping, you know, you with with content with work with, you know, business, whatever. I feel like if you just jump over them and do it yourself and not give them feedback and not you know, contribute with productive constructive criticism around their work. I think it’s kind of like a sign of not trusting them. But also it’s, it’s not helping them grow. It’s not helping them learn. If you don’t give feedback if you just, you know, rewrite it yourself, redo it yourself. Then on the other hand, if you don’t grow your team If you don’t, you know, delegate, if you don’t, you know, bring more people on board, it’s all going to be centered around you. So what happens, you know, whenever you have to go on vacation what happens, you know, if at some point in time, you can’t do that stuff, you know, if you centralize work too much, or knowledge in your business too much around yourself, that’s just not scalable, I think in the end. So think there’s a lot of issues with keeping too many things around yourself and not either delegating or teaching other people giving feedback and helping them go so that they can do that particular work that you’ve been doing even better than you in the future.

Karen Yankovich 15:39
I love that. I love that. So we kind of jumped into saying, you know, talking about plantable, without really telling people what it is. So why don’t you describe a little bit? what plantable is,

Xenia Muntean 15:49
right? So remember how I told you that we were working with spreadsheets to plan editorial calendar, and then

Karen Yankovich 15:55
which by the way, I’m still doing.

Xenia Muntean 15:57
Yeah, that’s okay. That’s okay. Sometimes it works.

Karen Yankovich 16:01
Yeah, it’s, I really love the idea. I definitely think I’m gonna give plantable a shot. By the way, when we’re done with this conversation, cuz diving in just doing research before this, I was like, why are we not using this? Which, let me tell you, I talk to a lot of people. So that says something in and of itself about how cool this tool is. And as you describe it, I’ll tell you where the spaces are, that I’m looking at this going this is this is awesome. I love this. So

Xenia Muntean 16:22
I love it. I love it. I need to hear Yeah. Okay, so and the idea is that we replace the spreadsheets for planning the content. And then we replay the emails for the entire coordination and the conversations around content. So implantable, you can create posts for social media, and they book pixel perfect the final version on social social media. So basically, live previews of how your content is going to look like on social on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, which is really amazing, because it gives you a very visual way to work on content. And also, you know, kind of avoid, you can avoid any miscommunications, because if you have multiple people involved in the process, and you’re working in spreadsheets, you’re relying on everyone else’s imagination to guess how that content is going to look like Indian, then there’s dozens of formats of content or social, and so implantable, you can just see exactly where you’re going to get in the end, you can collaborate in a very productive way around posts, you can plan them, you have like a very nice calendar, where you can see you know, how your entire content efforts are going to look like for the next week, or for the next month, I have an Instagram weed. So you can see you know, how your content is gonna look like in a very, you know, Instagram, specifically out. There’s an approval system if you have approval processes in place for your team. So it’s basically, you know, an end to end workflow to organize yourself as a team around your social media output. And yeah, that’s kind of you know, plantable in a nutshell.

Karen Yankovich 17:55
So okay, so you, you plantable works with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn,

Xenia Muntean 18:01
the majors. Yeah.

Karen Yankovich 18:03
So does it. So do you have the native integration with Instagram? Or does it have to get pushed out a schedule and pushed out?

Xenia Muntean 18:09
Yeah, that’s a good question. So it’s on natively at the moment. It’s like a push notification on your mobile phone. But yeah, that’s actually something that we’re currently working on. So that’s the next thing on our roadmap.

Karen Yankovich 18:19
And how about stories? Does it does it integrate it all with stories?

Xenia Muntean 18:23
Yes, Yes, we do. So in the same way you plan and collaborate on regular posts, you can do the same with with stories for Instagram.

Karen Yankovich 18:30
Awesome. How about… Do you know LinkedIn has stories now, at least in the US, and which I mean, which has happened, you know, very recently. So yeah, LinkedIn is is a tough integration. I’m impressed that you have it in the first place. Because I know that that is not easy.

Xenia Muntean 18:46
Yeah, it’s a very hard one, their API is not as developed this with the other platforms. And we don’t have stories for LinkedIn yet. But that’s, you know, again, something that we’re looking forward to potentially adding in the next quarters.

Karen Yankovich 19:00
Awesome. Awesome. Great. So one of the so here’s what I want to hear about. And this is the interesting thing, when I saw your, when I was looking at your plans, you talk about infinity posts, hmm. Right? So tell it tell everybody what that is.

Xenia Muntean 19:15
So infinity posts means that we do not limit the number of posts you can create inside plantable. So if you’re okay, if you’re on a paid plan, you basically have unlimited number of posts, you know, how other plans Okay, other social media platforms have like maybe 100 posts a month that you can create, inside, you know, your your account, so we do not limit the number or the amount of posts you create an inside bannable because we think, you know, you should create as much content as you know, you think your brand your brand needs.

Karen Yankovich 19:46
Got it. Yeah, got it. Cool. So, so is there a way to reuse content Once you’ve created it?

Xenia Muntean 19:52
Yes, actually, yes, we do have a reposting option, where you can, you know, go on the platform and if you really enjoyed a specific Post, you can actually, you know, reuse it again. So we don’t necessarily have like the Evergreen post, because we feel like just automatically rescheduling a post doesn’t give you the opportunity to actually tweak it as much as you would want to. So the content is not identical. And there’s, you know, actually policies in place, especially on Twitter for, you know, not abusing the Evergreen tactics. And so yeah, but we do have a way of kind of, like recycling content,

Karen Yankovich 20:29
beautiful, beautiful, because, you know, there is a lot, especially with images and things like that, you know, we want to be able to reuse some of this stuff, not Yes, you know, repurpose things in different ways, especially for things like, you know, if you’re a content creator, like this podcast, you know, we create a bunch of content around each episode. And, you know, we we send out content for a long time ever, forever, in many ways, you know, back to old episodes, which is really interesting, which is something I really hadn’t expected, really, when I was doing my podcast that we would be having listens to every single episode every single month. Right. So

Xenia Muntean 21:02
that’s interesting, we should do it. And that actually, you know, sparked an idea. We should do that more often for my own podcast as well. Yeah, not recycling content as much as possible.

Karen Yankovich 21:12
Yeah, it’s well, because you know, why? I mean, listen, and you know, well, what’s that? Let me ask about this. When I am using plantable, can I tag? Like, if I’m creating content for this podcast? Can I tag you in the content as it goes out? as its pre scheduled?

Xenia Muntean 21:28
Yeah, yeah, you can, you can obviously do that, especially on Twitter and LinkedIn, with Facebook, you know, it’s more, it’s like harder the brain. Right, right. Give you like, people names more like pages, rather than raise your profile. But on the other platforms? Yes, for sure.

Karen Yankovich 21:43
This is awesome. This is beautiful. So you know, thank you so much for doing this for people like me that have, you know, listen, we were entrepreneurs, and I like to have a tight team not have, I don’t want to have 100 people, you know, that work. For me, it’s hard. And you know, it’s, it’s enough to do what we’re doing. Right. So having tools that can really streamline our back end and our work is, is really an important part of our growth. And I know that that’s the same for my customers, you know, and obviously, we focus a lot on LinkedIn here. So I love that you are able to schedule and schedule content out to LinkedIn, I spend a lot of time live in LinkedIn. And I encourage everybody listening to do the same thing. But you know, our podcasts go live every Monday, I don’t need to remember every Monday to share a post that says Did you watch this week? Did you listen yet, right? Like that’s kind of stuff that can get scheduled. So it’s not like, you know, we don’t want an AI kind of overall marketing plan, we still need to be in it right to be marketing. But at the same time, there’s lots of stuff that we can automate, so that we

Xenia Muntean 22:45
There is definitely so much tedious tasks that can be taken out of your marketing work. So I can’t agree more with you. Like you can’t automate creativity and you definitely need some kind of like human touch. And your marketing plans don’t need to be you know, people need to feel and they’re going to feel, you know, if it’s too automatic, but at the same time, a lot of the stuffs like, you know, like you mentioned, you know, do you watch the episode type of posts, those can be automated and they should be automated. You know, your mind doesn’t need to be busy with remembering to post stuff. It should be busy with strategies and new ideas and creativity.

Karen Yankovich 23:26
So what is the what is next for plantable?

Xenia Muntean 23:30
Whoo, that’s a good one. What’s next? So then what’s next for us? is we actually just went through a big big rebrand and and launched a new website completely completely new website from scratch that we’ve been working on for the past year. And is Yeah, it’s kind of like a good time to reflect what’s next for us. And I think the next frontier for us is to expand into ads because we do have you know, we have a good head start with giving people the power to collaborate on organic social. So now the baby next frontier for us is to help them do the same with paid posts with paid social. So you know, that’s kind of like the big next thing and we’re very excited to

Karen Yankovich 24:20
that’s exciting.

Xenia Muntean 24:21
Yeah.

Karen Yankovich 24:22
And what about what’s next for Xenia? Do you have anything? Like I know it’s a crazy world right now. We’re not running flying around the world anymore speaking and things like that. But what’s Is there anything exciting coming up in your world?

Xenia Muntean 24:34
Oh, that’s that’s a good one. I think I take it just step by step nowadays. You know, honestly, this entire last, you know, this year has been so crazy. They just showed me that. You know, sometimes Yeah, it’s just finally if you plan in this period of time, I feel like just taking it one step at a time is the best I can do right now. And taking care of my you know, mental health and Yeah, trying to just trying to connect more with people that are close to me and what, whatever virtual ways as possible. And yeah, just I go hiking quite a lot during this period of time to investing a bit more and myself, and my personal development is probably the big next thing for me. Just doesn’t sound that big. But during this period of time, that’s like, huge.

Karen Yankovich 25:23
No, I I agree, I think and you know, here’s the deal. I can tie this all together. tools, like plantable allow us to do things like go hiking, right? Yeah, because it gives us It gives us a little bit, a little bit more free time, right. So. So I love that sr, you have shared a code with our audience, we’ll put it in the show notes, so that we can get a discount. And I believe the code is good girls get rich and you just go to it’s plantable.io. Right?

Xenia Muntean 25:49
Yeah, yeah, that’s kind of

Karen Yankovich 25:50
Planable.io, and if you register with the code, goodgirlsgetrich, you get a you get a nice sweet discount on your first couple of months. And and check it out. I’m definitely going to check it out. Xenia Muntean 26:07
Thank you so much, Karen, for having me on the show. I really enjoyed talking to you.

Karen Yankovich 26:11
So wasn’t Xenia Amazing. I’m so impressed at people that are so confident at such a young age. Even if she wasn’t confident she really just dove in and knew what she wanted and made it happen. So I surely wasn’t like that when I was in my 20s busy raising babies and not really having the kind of confidence that she had. So I hope that this inspired you maybe if if you have daughters or sons of that age, you can share it with them as well. Because it really is inspirational. And you know, I’m always here to support you and anyone that’s in your world as well. We have besides this podcast that we offer every single week as you know many of the episodes we do our training episodes, hopefully you’re subscribed so you know that we also do a free on demand masterclass where you can check that out at karenyankovich.com/masterclass. And it’s just a great way to just get a dive into a lot of the things we talk about here on the podcast. It is complimentary, it’s on me, just so check it out. If you have some time. It’s karenyankovich.com/masterclass. And I’d love to know what you think about that as well. So hopefully you’ve already taken a screenshot of this show on your phone or whatever you’re listening to and shared it on your social media. If not, you can still do this. All right, and then make sure to tag me and I’ll share it with my audience as well. I will see you back here again next week with another episode of the good girls get rich podcast.

139 – What Would RBG Do?

This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, Karen reflects on the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg showed up and made a change in the world. Just like her, we have the ability to make a change, and RBG left us amazing examples of how to stand up against the crowd.

#GoodGirlsGetRich

We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com.

About the Episode:

On September 18, 2020, the world lost Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was a champion for women’s rights, and there are so many great things that we can learn from her.

RBG didn’t accept unfair treatment just because that was how things were. When she had the ability, she showed up and did the good that she could do. And when she did something that went again the majority, she did it with confidence.

That warrants the question… are there areas in our lives where we should be showing up and making a difference? It’s easy to get stuck in the mundane way of doing things and to follow the crowd. But with more visibility comes greater responsibility. It’s time to start following RBG’s example and ask ourselves, “Where can I make a difference?”

When it’s your turn to step up and make a change, do it with confidence. Trust your gut, trust your expertise, and trust yourself. When you champion for change, it’s true that you’ll most likely face opposition. But just like the advice RBG followed, it helps to be a little deaf. When someone says something offensive, it’s best to tune them out, stop yourself from getting angry, and work on the backend to make a change.

You can make a change. You just have to show up.

And you can find all those links at KarenYankovich.com/139. So the world lost and amazing heroine a few weeks ago, the notorious RBG Ruth Bader Ginsburg, talk about being a good girl. If you’ve listened to the show before you know that good girls don’t mean people that play by the rules, good girls are people that know what they’re good at. And then just dive in and do their best and share their genius with the world and really stay in that place. of, of confidence and, and just amazingness because that’s where we build abundance in our life. And you know, we’re not always talking about abundance as money in our bank account. I mean, it’s great to have money in our bank accounts. When when I heard the news a couple weeks ago that Ruth Bader Ginsburg had passed away, I sat on my couch, very upset and was just donating money to in her honor in Ruth Bader Ginsburg, honor to some of the political candidates that I supported, right. So I wouldn’t have been able to do that. If I didn’t build a career focused on what I’m good at. That helped me put money in my bank account. Right. So yeah, let’s not pretend that having more money isn’t going to help us in our in our lives and our business and have amazing lives. But it’s not what it’s all about, right? There’s abundance. There’s so many other things that that abundance can be that abundance is defined by and I think that RBG definitely embodied that. I mean, you’ve seen the memes, I don’t have to share them here. All of the women’s rights that we enjoy today, thanks to Ruth, the right to sign a mortgage without a man the right to have a bank account without a male cosigner. The right to have a job, right without being discriminated on based on your gender. I mean, the right to have to be pregnant and have kids, right. I mean, and still work. These are things that were changed, thanks to Ruth Bader Ginsburg in my lifetime. So this is not in the 1800s. This is not that long ago, that we needed to have these rights fought for and, and won, so that each one of us, so I don’t have to fight every step of the way. And we have room to thank for that. So I will always be grateful for that. And hopefully you understand that, as well. And you’ve seen the means and you understand why I’m so passionate about this here. Ruth fought tirelessly, I mean, tirelessly for us to be equal under the law for women to have the same rights as men under the law. She and this is not something she didn’t have to battle in her own career. She absolutely did. She was a mom, she had a husband who had cancer while she was in law school. So she was a caretaker. And you know, as a Supreme Court justice, she was a role model for every young girl, and what their what they can achieve and what they can strive for in their life. Right. She understood exactly the way she wanted to see the world. And then she fought to make it happen because she had experienced it personally, because she had personally had to fight her way to get into law school to be seen as confidently or as you know, professionally as the men in the programs, right. She defied the stereotypes just by being herself right just by being a Good Girl by doing what she was so good at, and then just going for it, she absolutely beat the odds. And thankfully, you and I get the benefit of that today. So let’s talk a little bit about some of the things that we can do, right that Ruth Bader Ginsburg did that we can embody in our lives, and in our business. Okay. So Ruth Bader Ginsburg came from a generation of women who had to be 10 times better than men in order to get half of the recognition or the admittance that they were that they had. And I wish I could sit here and tell you that that doesn’t happen today. But it does still happen. Right? I know that I built my career in a world and in a very male dominated world. And I know, I know that I needed to be louder and stronger and more confident, in order to even have my voice listened to. Right. I at least had the ability to sit at the table and be in the room, though, thanks to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. So even though she has helped us come far, one of the things that that I think we can embody that one of the things that we can embody, as we continue to hit these sexism struggles in our careers, is not to accept it. Okay, not to accept that kind of treatment for just as this is how things are, right? We have the choice, we can do what Ruth Bader Ginsburg did. And we can say, No, I don’t accept that. I don’t accept that there’s, there’s in this line of speakers, that that you have, that there’s nine men and one woman, I don’t accept that. I don’t accept that you are not bringing me on to this. But you brought these men that are less qualified than me into this opportunity. Right? She spoke up for herself. And that’s what we as women need to do to be like Ruth was, and speak up for ourselves and be confident about that. Okay, speak up for yourself, if there’s something that that you see that you feel is not an equitable choice, and we’re seeing a lot of this now, right? I mean, I’m sitting here as a privileged white woman, I fully recognize that but we all what we are seeing is more and more companies and more and more people and more and more businesses, paying more attention to equity and diversion and inclusion, right. So but we have to keep speaking up, we have to keep speaking up if we want to be like Ruth, right. The other thing she did was when she saw that there was a gap in something she like she would just start her own start her own thing. She co founded the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU. So in 1972, the ACLU was already a strong organization, the American Civil Liberties Union. And as the organization started to grow, they started to send sex discrimination cases to her. And not only did she litigate those cases, and you know, take baby steps, tackling one law at a time, right? Because Wait, because she knew that that like infiltrating it one step at a time, was going to help her have more success, certainly in 1972, then just trying to completely turn something upside down on its head, right? So she infiltrated it. But she, she started the Women’s Rights Project. She said, okay, there’s a need here, I’m going to champion this. And she jumped in and did it herself. She didn’t wait for someone else to do it. She stepped up and did it. So think about in your world, where do you need to step up? You know, we’ve talked on this show about how with visibility comes responsibility. And if you’ve listened to the show for a while, then hopefully your visibility is growing. Hopefully, you’re learning some techniques for me, to grow your visibility to grow your voice to get your voice out in the world, as you’re doing that. Where is there a need that you might feel the need or the desire to step in, and really make a bigger change by doing something like co founding the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU. And really interesting to me, one of the things that I think was really interesting, too, in the what would Ruth Bader Ginsburg do episode here? Is her role for being known for her and passion, two cents, right? So not only did she get what she known for, you know, stepping in and championing women’s rights issues and all kinds of other issues that are important to this country. She was also really known for her passionate dissents, meaning when everyone else said yes, she was confident enough in herself to say no, if that’s what she believed was the right thing to do. She listened to her gut, she wouldn’t just say, Well, you know, would it be easier to say yes, I understand their points of view. Let’s just move on. She said ABS like hell no, I’m not doing that. She would not only say Hell no, but she would be happy to point out how insane the majority’s approach to the law was. Right? In light of how the script operates in the real world. So she had no problem being the lone dissenter. Right and having the confidence to say yeah, no, we’re not going to do that. Right? Be confident, be confident enough in your gut Be confident enough, in your expertise, be confident enough in yourself to be the person that stands up to a roomful of yeses, when you know, the right answer is no. Okay, so that takes a lot of guts tonight, you got to give her a lot of credit for that, right. And the last thing I want to mention here today, and this is one, this is probably my favorite one and one that I know, I need to, to listen to more often. And that is, you know, one of her one of her most famous pieces of advice. She attributes her mother in law. And in her mother in law, the advice that her mother in law gave her was in every good marriage, it helps to be a little deaf. And basically what she said that she followed that advice, not only just at home, and in her, you know, 56 years of marriage, but in the Supreme Court, when somebody said something, what basically what she said was when a thought was or unkind word is spoken, best to tune it out, reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade. I’m going to say that again, in every workplace, and this is Ruth’s words, in every workplace, including the Supreme Court, when a thoughtless or unkind word is spoken, best to tune it out, reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade. Okay, so I will tell you that one of the things that I did, and I share a picture of it on this episode here, as I bought myself a little ww or bgd bracelet, because that’s, that is one lesson that I need to remind myself of a lot. All the other lessons I think are really important as well. And I think for me, I would love to embody more of the spirit of rbg. And but this one here is the one that I know I need to work the hardest on. And that is not only to just let things go, when you hear something that’s unkind or thoughtless, just tune it out, and then work on the back end, to do whatever to persuade, whatever it is you’re looking to do to achieve the goals you’re looking to achieve. She is an incredible role model an unbelievable memory and inspiration to so many women in this world. I feel like I just owe so much to this woman. And I wanted to do an episode just a short episode honoring her honoring her memory and continue to work towards her goals. Right. I think that that’s really important. I think that she started the movement for women like me, and I think it’s my responsibility, right to take that baton and run with it. So we’re just going to recap this for a minute and just kind of talk a little bit about how we could be more like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, what would RBG do, understanding that she knew she had to move forward in a world that she had to fight for herself and didn’t accept the treatment of things just because that’s the way things are. That is not a sentence that she ever would just accept in her world. And I think we need to do the same thing. When we see that there’s a place that we can show up and do good, like founding the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU, we’ve got to use our visibility and take responsibility for our visibility and step in in places where we can step in and do good remembering that you don’t just have to go with the crowd. If you firmly believe that the answer is no, or frankly, maybe the answer will be yes. Right, just dissenting, meaning, do something different than that goes against the majority, then have that confidence, find that confidence channel rbg. And state your opinion, regardless of whether it’s the popular one. And sometimes Remember, it helps to be a little deaf. So you know that I’m here to always support you with this. I do this podcast to support you. I have a free training course to support you to help you get started to step into your greatness so that you can confidently be the person you want to be that you can confidently Be a good girl. So I’m going to share my favorite Ruth Bader Ginsburg quote with you now to wrap this up. And my favorite Ruth Bader Ginsburg quote is, we should not be held back from pursuing our full talents from contributing what we could contribute to society, because we fit into a certain mold, break the mold, break the mold, ladies, let’s do this together. Kelly Lynn Adams 3:49
Yeah, Karen, I was so glad to be on this podcast. I love this podcast.

Karen Yankovich 3:54
Yeah. And I love I love your whole vibe, Kelly Lin and I just talked for like 15 minutes and said, we should be doing this on the show, which happens way more often than it should. So hopefully we’ll catch some of that. But what I love about what you do, and it’s just embodied by the name of your podcast, perfectly imperfect, right? You support women. I mean, our podcast focuses on supporting women as well. And, you know, we get caught up in perfectionism so much, and it gets in our way it gets in our way. So tell me a little bit. I mean, our journeys are not all that different. I didn’t spend you spent a lot more time in corporate America, I think than i did i and mine was years and years ago. But tell us a little bit about how you got started and what brought you to shifting from a corporate position to running your own business.

Kelly Lynn Adams 4:40
Yeah, so great question. So my I started in on Wall Street actually like in the investment banking world, so go figure and then I just always had a love for fashion. And so then I pivoted and I was in the fashion retail space for years and supporting luxury No high end, you know, fashion brands. And it’s so funny because as I was in corporate, I always wanted to do something else of my own. I didn’t know if that was real estate or owning a brick and mortar. And so my first business ever was in network marketing, and I was selling skincare and one of my clients was like, you’d be great at coaching. And this is years ago. I’m like, what’s coaching? Like,

Karen Yankovich 5:24
right, right?

Kelly Lynn Adams 5:25
You know, a sports coach, she’s like, no, you’re already doing it. You’re training us. You’re teaching us you’re, you know, you’re helping us build our businesses with the, the makeup stuff and the skincare stuff. I was like, okay, so I went back to school got certified, and I literally started my business that way, I reached out to family and friends. And I was like, This is what I’m doing. This is what I’m coaching. I’m doing it for I coached 50 people for free, Karen.

Karen Yankovich 5:50
Which I love that guy. And then because that’s that is how you get good. By doing it not by like, I think honestly, that right there and bodies what I think that tells a lot about you, and why you teaching people to do this now. Because so many people need no certification and other courses before they’re ready to start coaching. And you were like, No, no, I’m coaching now. And you learned by coaching, which I bet makes you a better coach.

Kelly Lynn Adams 6:13
Yeah, 100%. And you learn, right, and this is the whole thing with the conversation of women. You know, what I teach now is like women truly stepping into their embodiment, and their power and their confidence. And for me, it’s like, we still have a long way to go, I am still you know, fully stepping into my confidence. And I’ve done a years of self development work on myself and transformation work. Yeah. And it’s like, the only way we can build confidence is taking action before we’re ready. And that’s what I teach. And the whole perfectly imperfect. The reason why I named that podcast the way I did is because I was seeing in the fashion industry, you know, everything kind of had it, you know, the images had to be perfect, or it had the new season had to be right, like what’s going to sell and you know, I landed in the hospital because I was my worthiness came from overworking and trying to be perfect and trying to fit the mold and, and I really was like, Oh, the more productive I am and the more busy I am. And I was really craving that know, like and trust and likability and love ability from outside sources instead of myself. So I was pushing myself to exhaustion. And no one’s perfect. Everyone’s perfectly imperfect.

Karen Yankovich 7:29
Right? Right. But you are working in corporate while you were doing all of this still. Right? You were working while you were doing it. Right? Which is kind of what started the after five club?

Kelly Lynn Adams 7:38
Yes, yeah. So that that after five club, I was mostly I pivoted my coaching because I was just coaching everyone in anyone when I first started out, and then the after five club was like, wait, like, this is my story, like, I’m side hustling on, you know, basically the same time in corporate. So I was helping women really like manage their mindset, like maximize their time, and then really monetizing their business. And there’s still so many people doing that. And it’s not, it’s not an easy thing, you know, for a lot of people especially and some people just want to make extra money. And some people want to be a full time entrepreneur. So that’s when I shifted, you know, I would say mid career. And then I kept seeing this like worthiness and this confidence and women not going after what they want, or we were just talking about this before is like, even if women want to invest in themselves, you know, men sometimes are more easily to, you know, quick to invest in themselves than women. at certain times. So

Karen Yankovich 8:36
yeah, yeah. Many times many times. Yeah. It’s, it’s crazy. Because I mean, I, you know, we have that in common that we try it we support women and, and their success. And I can’t even tell you how many. And here’s the thing, like, I feel like when somebody slips through my fingers, it’s not like I didn’t sell them. It’s like they’re not getting, they’re not going to move ahead. I mean, some there are people that I’ve talked to year after year. And I’m like, I want to say to them, like, is this going to be the year that you’re gonna invest in yourself? Or are we going to have this conversation again, you know, in the fall of 2021, right, because you haven’t gotten there yet, where men will invest in themselves to move forward. And I’ve learned over the years, I need to invest in myself, just to get it done. You know, like, just to get it done. You know, that’s where we start moving forward. So yeah, I see that too. I totally see that too. So let’s talk a little bit about the confidence piece, though, because I know that that still comes up for me as well, you know, and I’m a lot older than you are. So as much as I’d love to sit here and say to you what, don’t worry about it. Kelly, you’re going to get you know, Kelly Lin, you’ll get over it in a couple years, it’s probably not going to happen. And and I think for me, what I realized is it’s always going to be there. So it’s not a matter of fixing it. It’s a matter of for me anyway, it’s a matter of lessening it, right like showing him more confidently more consistently. And also for me, I found and i’d love your thought on this. It’s sometimes it comes down to focus. Sometimes confidence comes down to focus because as a woman I’m doing 5500 Different things at once often. And if I am really focused on something and give it my all, then I can hit it more confidently. So what do you think aboutm that?

Kelly Lynn Adams 10:10
Yeah, so I totally agree on the whole 50,000 things multitasking, it’s like, we as women, and really anyone, it’s the emotional labor, like, because if we are split energy doing 1001 things, and we can do it because women are naturally multitaskers. It’s like how much of our emotional energy you know, and labor is taking up, like, right now I do this with my clients. And I’m doing this with myself, I do this every 90 days, I do something called like, a time audit or a time review, where I literally like kind of, yeah, like a diet. I know, I hate that word diet. But I literally write down in my notebook, and I can show you but in my notebook, and we’re in podcasts, okay, I show you but I live hour by hour, what am I doing? is one hour, I’m just on social media, you know, screwing around is the other hour. I’m watching TV. And literally, I’m getting so real with myself of every hour, like what did I do? And then I do this for two weeks. And then I see where are where is the majority of my time spent? And then I go back and say, Do I want to fix anything? Do I want to change anything? Do I want to adjust anything? And that all comes into play of like, what are my three top values or three things that I’m focused on for this quarter? But this can be done in any kind of timeframe? And it’s really eye opening? Because you’re like, wow, like for, you know, five hours a day I was on social media? You know, I didn’t really think so much time on social media.

Karen Yankovich 11:37
Yep, yep. Yep. Yeah. And to me, I think that that does impact how well I do things when I’m doing too many things, which then impacts my confidence, right, because I’m not happy with the output. Right? When I write me when, and then that hits me right in the confidence, you know, vulnerability.

Kelly Lynn Adams 11:56
And this is the thing, confidence, the way you build confidence is literally leaning in and taking action before you’re ready. So it’s getting comfortable in the uncomfortable, kind of like how we’re all doing now with COVID. And everything else going in the world going on in the world, it’s like we’re all slightly uncomfortable to some degree. And when we get to the other side of this, we’re going to be so much more confident in different areas of our life of what we’ve gotten through. And just think about anything that was challenging, or anything that you know you’ve overcome in your life, you probably started before you were ready, or you did something when it was uncomfortable, or you just sat with Yeah, that uncomfortable feeling. Because the thing is, is when we take action, and when we’re uncomfortable, it builds the muscle of confidence. And same thing, because it’s easy to say it this way, like when we’re working out or when we start walking or eating right. You know, we do it day after day after day and just build that muscle, whether it’s the mental muscle or the physical muscle, and it just it then increases your confidence be like, Okay, well, I did this yesterday, I can do this again today. So it’s just, you know, taking action before you’re ready and leaning in when it’s uncomfortable. And I think a lot of people don’t want to do the uncomfortable and don’t want to take the risk and don’t. And that’s why back to what you were saying, you know, some people year after year, say they want to change and they don’t take the action to change.

Karen Yankovich 13:30
Yeah, oh my gosh, that’s so true. That’s so true. And I bet there’s women listening to this right now saying I don’t want to be uncomfortable. And you can stay where you are, right and that but just know that you will stay where you are. So if you’re looking to stay to not stay where you are, then you do have to face some discomfort in some ways.

Kelly Lynn Adams 13:50
And think about you know, I always like to say this, and you know, we’re not all Olympians, but think of an Olympian right, they train, they are in the uncomfortable in the training process, right? They’re getting up 530 early in the morning, right? They’re really, you know, their coaches pushing them, and they’re uncomfortable, and they do it anyway, when they don’t feel you know, their best during certain days, or they have off days. They do it anyway. So it’s the same thing of like, yeah, it’s gonna be uncomfortable. And yeah, it’s not gonna, it’s not gonna feel nice. And the other side, right, there is a reward to some degree.

Karen Yankovich 14:27
So tell us about the rewards like what kinds of people have you worked with through these kinds of challenges? And what kinds of things are they embracing in their life now that maybe they weren’t able to before?

Kelly Lynn Adams 14:37
Yeah, so like, one of my clients, you know, she had a really hard time getting out there. And so like in this women work and worth what I teach is like, its impact its influence and income. So the impact and influence are very tightly together and she had a really big fear of being seen, like being seen in any capacity, whether it was going Live on social media or putting herself out there in the media or whatever. And literally, I was like, okay, you’re gonna get seen. So we worked, you know, week by week of pushing her out of her comfort zone and even challenged her to, like, do more video on social media, you know, get out there for her business. And literally, as she was getting more and more out there, she got opportunities, like in the media, she got clients, like, people were just buzzing towards her because people want to see you, you know, and, and she wasn’t perfect. She messed up. She said, um, she, you know, and people like that too, because they can relate. And she was getting and she also shifted her energy. So as she was getting out there, and I was challenged her every day to do a Facebook Live or Instagram Live, or whatever it was, she became like, Oh, yeah, I can do that. So it built her confidence because she was taking those baby steps every week. And we were doing things and it literally, like change the trajectory of her business and her life because she then was like, Oh, I can do this. And then we started to have fun with it. So so much came out of that just experience for her. And it was what I like to say it was like not only an external shift that happened, but it was an internal shift within her where she did not like me at first, because I was pushing her. But then it got easier and easier over time.

Karen Yankovich 16:26
Right, right. Oh, my gosh, that’s so cool. Because you know, I think that often women, what came up for me what you were talking about that is often women, when they think about earning more money, they think of supporting their families supporting their kids paying their mortgage, kind of the things that you think of almost when traditional male roles, right, they’re supporting, but what happens what I see what happens when women start bringing more abundance into their life, is that not only are they doing that, but they’re supporting nonprofits, they’re starting nonprofits. They can there’s so much more you can do in the world, which is where are often where our hearts are. Right? We don’t see that until we start to feel it. And when you start to feel it, and then and then it all sorts of steamroll. Oh, that’s kind of where I was hearing that. Because when women are not, not that men don’t support nonprofit, because I know they do. This is not man bashing at all. But it’s not just about the left brain, you know, let’s make $1,000 to pay our $900 mortgage. Right? It is about let’s be $2,000 parent hundred dollar mortgage and do amazing things in the world.

Kelly Lynn Adams 17:30
Yes. So this is one thing that my coach tells me all the time, and it’s like, Whoa, like hits me between the eyes, you are a disservice if you are broke, meaning you’re disservice to yourself, your disservice to your family, your disservice and a liability to the world if you are broke. And when the word broke, does it mean? And it could mean right? Maybe you’re living paycheck to paycheck, or maybe you’re living credit cards or credit card. But if you’re a liability and really just not doing what you’re meant to do in the world, right? When when women have more money and are making more money, you’re exactly right, Karen, we do more good in the world, we give back. We you know provide for our families we invest. There’s so many things that we can do. And yet, it’s like, a lot of us don’t ask for what we want. And we don’t we have a hard time receiving. It’s kind of like another question my coach asked me is like, How good can you stand it right? Can you receive the money? The abundance? Like how good can you sit? Stand it like

Karen Yankovich 18:41
How good can you stand it? Everybody that’s listening needs to stop and journal on that. Right? As soon as we’re done here. That’s awesome.

Kelly Lynn Adams 18:49
Yeah. And I’ll give you an example of my own personal life like So recently, you know, I was I was featured in a magazine, it’s a national magazine, and then I gotten invited to, you know, a private party. And then this The next day, my podcast hit Episode 100. So I had to promote that. And then the next day, I signed on to clients, I was like, Oh, my God. And then like, Karen, I was like, I wanted to self sabotage myself, like, Who am I? Right? Who am I to just like, just, you know, claim and tell the world all these good things that are happening to me, and it’s like, Who am I not to? Like, I, I’ve been working at this. I’ve been training at this. It’s like, yes, like, I had that moment, you know, that. I was like, wow, this is a kind of like an upper limit problem. Like how good can I really stand it? And really like that’s a lot of times women are so used to taking care of everyone else and doing things for other people and being you know, Mother Teresa, where it’s like when all the good comes to us, like are we ready? And are we willing to receive it? So it takes practice.

Karen Yankovich 19:56
Oh my gosh, that’s so cool. So how do you work with people Now so I know so do you still run the after five club?

Kelly Lynn Adams 20:03
No. So that’s a movement, I don’t work on that anymore. But I, like there’s a lot of women that still come to me for, you know, that support and that help. But mostly, you know, I’m helping women with this, like the the confidence piece, the worthiness piece, the receiving more. And I also work with men as well. So I don’t just work with women I know we’re talking about before on the podcast. So it’s really and I don’t have any cookie cutter approach, because for me, coaching is not a one size fits all. So it really depends on the person and what they’re up against. Because when you work on confidence, when you work on worthiness and receiving they’re all intertwined, and it can stem from different things, you know, that came up in your life or, or whatnot. So it’s it’s a lot of, you know, working with them privately. And just figuring that out. Now, with this program, yes, it’s going to be it’s finding strengths, because I know I wasn’t working to my strengths a lot. And I didn’t even know what my strengths were, I was like pushing a rock up a mountain, like so much in my business. And I was not working to my strengths. I was doing things that were not in my zone of genius. And I knew kind of like, what I like and what I was good at, but I wasn’t honing in. It wasn’t like I was necessarily actually doing it in my business. So we work on strengths. And then we work on literally getting out of your comfort zone and being uncomfortable getting visible. And really making everyone can make an impact in the world. And some people don’t know how, and we hone in on that for the for the strategy piece and the mindset piece, and we get rid of the mind trash that we all have. We all have mine trash that holds us back.

Karen Yankovich 21:43
So tell us a little bit about women work and worth what kind of program is that?

Kelly Lynn Adams 21:48
Yeah, so it’s a 90 day container. It’s very, it’s limited. I’m only limited to 15 women, it’ll eventually become you know, a signature course. But right now, it’s literally a container where we work on those three components. So it’s the mind trash getting with a mind trash, influence and impact. And that’s where the income comes in. Because when you’re more visible when you are working to your strengths and make more money, and then it’s also honing in on the strengths. So there are basically entrepreneurs that I would say, You’re too in their business to your seven. And that’s the dynamic. And it’s all different businesses, its product, its service based businesses, and it’s going to be like, it’s going to be very fun surprises, like I have a lot of like receiving prizes. And the women who come in will know what I mean by that. But it’s going to be fun, it’s going to be like, How good can you stand it and just working with like increasing your ability to receive as well.

Karen Yankovich 22:46
Oh, my gosh, so awesome. So we will link to all of that in the show notes, Kelly Lin, and to all of your social media, cuz I know you’re pretty active on social media, with your brand as well. So cool. So cool. So how can people get to know more about you? Should they just go to your social media? Or is there something in particular that we can send people to so they can learn more?

Kelly Lynn Adams 23:04
Yeah, they could just go to my website, because all my social media is on there. So kellylynnadams.com. Yeah.

Karen Yankovich 23:10
All right. Perfect, perfect. Kelly Lynn, this has been so helpful. I mean, I know we have a lot of we have a lot of the same philosophies at towards all of this. But I think it’s good for people to hear it from different points of view and different vantage points so that you can really hopefully, at some point, hopefully, there’s something that you said that maybe I never said that somebody heard and is like, yes, I’m going to do it. Right. So hopefully, that’s what’s happening here right now to the people that are listening. Thank you so much for being here. This was so awesome. And I can’t wait to see what you’re doing with how your new program runs for you.

Kelly Lynn Adams 23:42
Yeah, thank you, Karen, so much for having me. So fun.

About the Episode:

Are you ready to achieve your goals and succeed? Of course you are! Start by taking a look at your business, and follow these 5 simple steps to make success inevitable:

1) Know Your Monthly Number

To start off, decide how much money you need to make each month. This gives you a set goal to achieve. Determine your yearly sales goal, then divide that by twelve. Don’t forget to DREAM BIG!

2) Decide what Goes into Reaching that Number

Next, determine what products and services go into reaching that monthly number, then think about the number of products and services you need to sell. Maybe you need five more students to join your yoga class each month. Perhaps you need to sell 10 more books. Knowing the number of products and services you need to sell makes the sales goal attainable.

3) Do Some Historical Research

Take a look at your past months of business. Which month was your best month? Why? How many sales calls did you make? Find out what you did that month that made it so successful and use that as a guide to making your future months as successful – if not more successful!

4) Research Your LinkedIn Connections

Now take a look at your LinkedIn connections from last month. How many people did you connect with? How many of those connections turned into meaningful phone calls? Determine what you did right that resulted in more phone calls and how many more connections you should make each month.

5) Make Success Inevitable

By now, you have everything you need to make success inevitable. With what you discovered, now you can tweak your plan going forward. Maybe you need to sell more products. Maybe you need to connect with more people. Whatever the case is, you now have a goal to achieve!

Success doesn’t happen by accident. Follow these five steps to make success inevitable!

So today what I’m going to do, we’re talking today about some simple steps to make success inevitable. And this is a concept that I need to credit Hal Elrod with. Hal Elrod rod wrote a few books, he wrote The Miracle Morning, which is a great book. But the book that I love and the book that I give, if we’ve done any private work together, you probably have a copy of this book, because this is a book that I give to everyone that I booked a VIP day with or a fast track package or any kind of in person work with. And it’s called Miracle Equation. And the what I love about The Miracle Equation is that its eye on the prize, right? Focus on the goal, and then kind of reverse engineer what you need to do to achieve that goal. And what house equation is, is unwavering faith plus extraordinary effort equals miracles. And if you are, you know, if you what we teach in our she’s linked up program, the very first thing that we do with people, the very first call I have with people that are a part of our she’s linked up accelerator program, is have a meeting with them have a virtual meeting, call a one to one call, where we identify what one thing do you want to achieve on LinkedIn, because I know that if you are focused on one thing, and then we reverse engineer everything we need to do in the program to help you achieve that win. Like maybe it’s a $20,000 client, maybe you want to get featured in Forbes, whatever that might look like for you. Right, then we can reverse engineer everything we do in the program for that to happen for you. So what I want to do in this episode is the same concept but a little bit different, right, where we are still going to reverse engineer, because that’s the project manager and me that you know that I that’s the work I did for many, many years. I know that if you want to have a win on LinkedIn, and you identify what that win is, and then you do and you put everything in place for you to achieve that win. And success is inevitable. What we’re talking about here is taking a little bit broader, right, we’re taking it a little bit broader. And I will tell you that I had a meeting yesterday with Simone, my CFO, and you know, we have some numbers that we want to hit before the end of the year. And I’m looking at those numbers going alright, what do I need to do to make hitting that number inevitable. And tomorrow, I The day after I record this, I’m going to actually be meeting with Joel, my online business manager to talk about that and to say okay, here’s the number and let’s reverse engineer what we have to do to make hitting that number inevitable. And then I thought well, this is a great topic to share with you on the podcast, because Doesn’t that sound amazing? Right? inevitable success. So your CFO throws a number out To you, and and you’re just like, Alright, well, what has to happen to make that inevitable? What few simple things have to happen every day, week or month? First, so that the success is inevitable because I can say, I want a six figure month. But if I just do what I’ve always done right, then it’s not going to happen, right? And trust me, I’ve been guilty many, many times of saying things like, we’re gonna have a 50 k month, or we’re gonna have a 75 k month, and then don’t bother to create a plan to make that happen, right. I’ve done that many times over the years. But what I know now, is that I need to do the do the work to see what’s going to go into what are the sales that are going to have to happen for us to have a 50 k a month, or 75 k a month, or 100 k a month? And then what has to what do I need to do to make sure that those sales happen, and this is how we make success inevitable. But again, if you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you’ve always gotten, and you don’t get to hit those new goals for you. Right? So you’ve heard me refer to LinkedIn as my money tree. So of course, we’re going to take the concept, that concept of making success inevitable, we’re going to flip it a little bit, flip the whole money tree analogy, and dive a little bit deeper into what are the what exactly are the actions we need to take? And how many of those actions do we need to take in order to make success inevitable in order for our money tree to bloom, right, you get the picture. So the first thing we need to do is define what a successful month looks like for you. It’s critical that you know your numbers, it’s critical that you know your numbers. If you’re an entrepreneur, maybe it’s a top line sales number, let’s say 25 K, right? If you have a roll with a quota, right, you need to know what your quota is. And if it’s a yearly quota, or a yearly goal, I want this to be a $250,000 year, then we want to divide that by 12. Because we want to be doing is working off the monthly number here. There’s all different ways to do this. But I’m just going to take you through a simple five step process based on a monthly number. Okay, so the first thing is, you need to know what that monthly number is. Okay? So dream big, dream big. So now you got to deconstruct that number a little bit, right? What products or services go into reaching that goal? What’s the value of each and we’re not getting into here, you definitely want to get into with your accountant or your whoever helps you with your finances, you want to get into what’s the profitability of each thing, right? Like, if you sell something for $5, and it costs you $4. To sell that, that’s $1. That’s the profit, we’re not talking profit. Here. We’re talking top line numbers. Okay, top line numbers. So what products or services go into reaching that goal? I’m not saying that you don’t want to focus on your bottom line numbers, you do. But that’s not the topic of this conversation, right? For this conversation, we want to say I want to top line, let’s just say 25 a month. Okay? Now you have to deconstruct that number. Let’s say you have thousand dollar products and $5,000 products and $20 products, or services, what how many of each of those Do you need to sell in a month to reach that goal, and this is the same whether you’re an employee, if you have a quota, or a goal, or if you’re an entrepreneur, and you’re selling products, or services or yoga classes or, or coaching programs, or, you know, whatever it is you’re doing, right? You’ve got to deconstruct that number and kind of have some sense of how many of everything needs to be sold to get to that number. Okay, so that’s step two, step one, define what that month is, what’s the number step two is deconstruct the number a little bit, right, if you sell things that are $5,000, maybe you’re going to sell three of those, that’s 15 of your 25. Now you have 10,000, you have to cover, maybe gonna, you know, maybe you’re gonna maybe you have another thousand dollar product. So you’re gonna try and sell five of them. Now you have 5000, you want to cover right? See what I’m saying here. So you want to deconstruct that number. The third step is to do some historical research. Okay, look at your past great months, and dive into your calendar for that month. So have you ever had a month where you made 25 K or 50 K or 100? k? If not, don’t worry about it, go to a great month. Okay. And dive into the numbers. Let’s say you had a 25 k month, okay. And let’s say it was, you know, February of 2020, or let’s go with may of 2020. So we’re not looking at, you know, we went on to say, this can’t happen in the middle of this pandemic is it absolutely can write. So let’s say whatever. Let’s say it’s may of 2020. You had a 25 k month and we’ll just use that number 25 k as we go through the rest of this episode, so that we are consistent. You had a 25 k month, that’s the number you really want to have every month moving forward. Now you need to look at your calendar for that month. How many calls Did you have that month to reach that great number? Where did they come from? Can you Deacon Where can you deconstruct it, I know this is tedious stuff. I’m a spreadsheet geek. So it to me, it’s worth it to take the time to create a spreadsheet of how many calls I do, where did they come from and keep it updated. Okay, eyes wide open, eyes wide open here, if your eyes are closed, you’re just stabbing in the dark. And I, that is not how you make success inevitable. Success becomes inevitable when you know the numbers and you know what actions you need to take, right? So eyes wide open, what was your best month? How many sales calls Did you do that month to get to that number. Now, if your best month was 12, five, and you want to $25,000 month, and you did 10 sales calls in the 12 five, then you know what you need to do? Right? You know, you need to double that and do 20 sales calls, so that you can get to the $25,000 month. And this is just basic stuff. Okay? We’re not I know that there’s all kinds of, you know, things that can change and contingencies. And If This Then That we’re not worried about any of that. top line numbers here, top line information. Okay, so now you’ve looked at your best month, you know, how many sales calls you did that month, eyes wide open. And now you know how many sales calls you need a month to duplicate the success you have that month. And if you want to double the success you had in that month, you now need to double that number. But now you know, the number, right, you know, the number you’re shooting for? Right, you’ve deconstructed the number you’re shooting for, and you know the number of sales calls that you need to make to have that success. Alright, step four, we’re gonna dive into LinkedIn. Right? We’re gonna do a little bit more research. How many people on LinkedIn Did you connect with last month? Okay, so a little more historical research, and you can just do last month, you can do the last three months if you want. Again, this is the more time you spend on this, by the way, the more inevitable you’re successful be spend a little time on this, okay? doesn’t take too long. How many people did you connect with last month? And how many of those connections accepted? And of those connections that were accepted? How many were you able to get on the phone? Right? We’re looking for sales calls here, because I don’t care what anybody says. That’s where the money comes from. Okay, especially from LinkedIn, how many did you get on the phone with? So that’s step four, diving into LinkedIn, do a little research, how many people did you connect with last month? How many of those people accepted your connection requests? And how many of those were you able to get on the phone? So again, now, you know, let’s say we know we need to do, obviously, if you want, if you want, we’ll just use the number 20 sales calls, right? If you know, you want to do 20 sales calls, you got to look from LinkedIn to see how many people do you need to connect with, if you connect with 10 people, and eight of them accepted your connection request, and four of them you are ultimately able to get on the phone with, then you know that if you want 10 sales calls, you need to do at least you know, 25, right? Or 35? I don’t know you guys do the math there. I have the math in the next one. But you got to do the math, right? How many connections? How many of them accepted? How many were able to get on the phone? Step five, now you have the information you need to make success inevitable right? Now, you know that you did 25 sales calls in that great month that you identified? Right? You know that to have another month like that, you need to have at least 25 sales calls per month. And you can tweak and adjust your LinkedIn connections strategy to get to that number. I say at least because if you’re anything like me, I’m gonna be like, well, what if I shot for 30? Or 35? Right, then maybe my $25,000 month becomes a $35,000 month, right? So you because you know your numbers, you are able to predict this. Right? So now you’re looking at this and you’re like, Okay, so if i and this is simple, I know that there are things that that can change this, but very simply, you also know that if you’re not having 25 sales calls per month, you are not, you’re unlikely going to have that same level of success. Right? So this is what we’re looking to do here. It’s a simple five step system. One that most of the work is up front, right? spend a half a day on this, make it like a, you might even want to do this every quarter, right? Like have a like, you know, have a little CEO, retreat with yourself and know your numbers. Because Because if you’re setting up spreadsheets, once you set up these spreadsheets, if it was me, I keep them updated. because things change, right things change. pandemics happen, right? there are seasons in your business. Some of the seasons are more profitable than others. But as you have this information, if you know that the third quarter every year tends to be a lower season, and maybe you got to dial up those numbers. If you want that success to be inevitable for that quarter, right? Maybe you need to do 35 sales calls a month in order to make that $25,000 right in the third quarter. Because now as you start to keep track of this stuff, you have historical data, and as the CEO of your world, right even if you’re an employee, you’re still a CEO of your world. It’s up to you to track this stuff. And I know that this is the geeky left brain stuff. But I talked to so many people who have big goals, and no plan to reach the goal. I mean, I could get cheesy here and say, You guys have heard the, quote, If you fail to plan you plan to fail, right? Can’t do a little planning. If you want to have success, you got to do a little planning. And you might look at this and say, Karen, there’s, there’s no way I want to do 25 sales calls in a month, or 100 sales calls or whatever you have to do to get that. And that’s okay, too. Because now you know your numbers, maybe what that means is you have to look at your pricing, right? Maybe if you’re like, wow, I really want to hit that $25,000 number. But in order to do that, I have to do 25 calls. Now you go back to step two, where you deconstructed it, and you’re like, what if this $1,000 product became a $2,000 product? Right now, I don’t have to have as many sales calls to get there. Right? You see what I’m saying? So but you know, you know, and you can adjust accordingly. And this is how you make success inevitable. So let me recap these steps. The first step is, first, you need to define what a successful month looks like for you. Okay, what’s the number, pick the number, whatever that looks like for you pick a number and please dream big. Please dream big. Okay, step two is deconstruct the number. What do you have? What are your products, your services? What’s the value? And deconstruct the number? How many of each of these things do you need to close in a month to reach the goal that you identified in step one, step three is do some historical research, look at a past great months, look at your past 12 months, 24 months, pick the top three months, and then look at your calendars for those months. Okay, and look to see how many calls you had to in that month to reach that great number. Okay, I know, I know, without a doubt that when my calls drop, if I don’t focus on calls, my income drops, I know it, it happens. And there are times I have to look at my calendar and go, alright, how do I get more calls? What calendar for next month, because I really want to hit this number. And I know that it has to happen with new with calls, right? So so do some historical research, look for a couple of great months dive into your calendar, see how many calls you did those months, eyes wide open, right? And then you’ll know how many sales calls you need in a month to duplicate the success you had in those great months. Step four, is to take that same process over to LinkedIn, do some more research, how many people did you connect with last month? How many connect people did you connect with the month before? How many of those people accepted your connection requests? And of the people that accepted your connection requests? How many were you able to get on the phone, this might be a little harder to do, because you might not have the perfect records for this. But you’ll get close and actually moving forward. Now that I’m saying this, you may want to track this stuff. Because again, inevitable how cool does it sound to have inevitable success, right? And then step five, is now you have this information you need to make success inevitable, you know that you have to have a month like that you have to have at least however many sales calls, right? And then you have to tweak the front end your LinkedIn connection strategy, if you’re connecting with five people a week. And that’s just not enough. Maybe you have to connect with 10 people a week. I don’t want you to connect with 20 people a week at that point, you might need to adjust your pricing, right. But you know, because it just gets you can’t have that many calls, right? It’s just, it’s, I don’t want you to be exhausted from this, right. But now you know what you need to adjust and you need to adjust things. It’s a it is a little bit of work upfront, but it is a simple five step system. And remember to this is your baseline. This is your baseline. If you’re consistent with your effort, you’re going to get business from other places, right, let that be gravy, let that other business be gravy and put a simple LinkedIn strategy in place to make success inevitable.
