You know, we do a lot of networking online, and we meet a lot of people, right? Have you ever met somebody online and then met them in person, whether it’s just like one on one for coffee, or, you know, maybe at a networking event, and you finally meet them in person, and they’re different than you thought they were? Right? Like I this twice has happened to me that I can think of where one time, the person was a lot taller than I thought they were going to be any other time, they were a lot shorter than I thought they were going to be. And both times I’m like, Well, what the world made me think I knew how tall they were gonna be like, there’s nothing, there was nothing that I’ve ever seen either one of them that would make me think that they were either tall or not tall or whatever. And if it yet I was really like, in both of these cases, I was really surprised. And it took me a little while to kind of get used to the fact that the impression that I had of them, or after years of meeting them and talking to them and working with them was so different than what the reality was of them. And I’m saying is not because I think that we need to be perfectly clear on how tall we are anything like that in our in our market, because we don’t it doesn’t matter at all. But I’m saying this because what’s happening is we are whipping up personas for the people that we follow, right? And the people that we meet, and people are doing that for you. They’re seeing your content, they’re seeing what you do they’re meet, they’re connecting with you on LinkedIn and seeing your posts and your Yeah, we’re in the age of video. So but very rarely are you seeing somebody doing like an a full in person video, right? The bottom line here is though that we are we are creating in our mind, personas around the people that we meet digitally. What that tells me is we need to understand that there is such a thing as a digital first impression. You know, we wouldn’t if you were walking into a meeting for the first time you would walk in you would you know, I mean me I shouldn’t say we I said I would make sure that my hair was done that I had, you know my makeup was on point I had a great outfit on to me. Sometimes it’s also about the shoes. So I might have some great shoes on, I would go out of my way to create a great first impression. That same concept transfers to the work that you’re doing digitally. Does that make sense? Do you understand what I’m saying with this because if you are not doing this, if you’re not, if you don’t understand that you have a digital footprint, that you have a digital online brand and you have a digital first impression, then you are missing, probably leaving a lot of money on the table, you’re probably leaving a month, a lot of money on the table. You know, just take a quick minute and throw your name in a search engine and see what comes up. People are doing that for you, right people people are definitely doing that they’re before they work with you before they meet with you before they get on the phone with you. Or on that Zoom call, they’re probably throwing your name into a search engine. And you know how I know that because I do that. Right? I bet you do that too. Right. And you know, you almost want to I almost want you to go to like a, an incognito browser and do this. Because sometimes, you know, especially with Google search engines, it’s influenced by the fact that it’s you, right? So go and see, go to like, or maybe go to somebody else’s computer, just throw your name in a search and see what comes up. Because this is your first impression online. And the good news is we can control this, we can control our first impression online, especially if you’re listening to me now. And you’re thinking, well, if people search me online, they’re just gonna find out about all the things I used to be doing. You know, I’ve been in corporate for 20 years or 30 years. And now I’m a coach or consultant or, you know, an author, speaker, and nothing’s coming up about that. Well, this is all the more reason why you need to finish, you need to listen into today’s episode, because today we’re going to talk about how you absolutely can take control of what people see, as your first impression digitally. And come on, you know where I’m going with this right, like very first thing I’m gonna talk about here is your LinkedIn profile. One of the reasons why I do this, I don’t focus on LinkedIn, just I think I love LinkedIn. Right? In fact, somebody interviewed interviewed me recently, and they were like, oh, so worried about you, Karen. Because I was thinking, Oh, my gosh, what if LinkedIn goes away? What’s gonna happen to her business? And I was like, Well, you know, it’s really not about LinkedIn. Right? LinkedIn is a tool that we have, that we can use, but really what it’s about is our personal brand, right, and the brand and because we have LinkedIn, and I have checked all of the other sites, I mean, I’m always checking sites out I’ve been hanging out on Alignable lately, if you guys are on Alignable, find me there and connect with me there. And while I’m loving the activity on Alignable, what I don’t love about Alignable as much as I love on LinkedIn or some of these other platforms is there is no other place on the internet that you can create your first impression that you can create the brand of you All right, first of all, LinkedIn is the cornerstone of your online brand. It just is okay. You can, you know, argue with me, if you want me send me a message on on SpeakPipe. If you want, if you want to have a conversation about this, I’d love to have that conversation. But the reality here is that LinkedIn is the cornerstone of your personal brand online. So you know, I’ve done many, many podcasts on this, I’m not going to talk about all the ways you can optimize your LinkedIn profile. Connect with me on LinkedIn, I’m always doing I don’t know, there’s always ways that I can help you with that. But you know, at the very least make sure you’re looking at it with the eyes of somebody that’s looking at that as your first impression. Is that what you want? Is it like your resume? Or does it like your brand? Are they going to look at that and go, Wow, I want to get to know her, or they’re gonna go Alright, well, she looks like she’s pretty good at Excel. That’s cool. Right? What are they going to think about when they see that? This is your first impression, and especially if you are crafting the next chapter of your life in your career, you need to relook at this. And it’s not like we’re gonna fake stuff, but you want to be positioning yourself, for the person that you’re stepping into. Because that is the first impression people are going to see, yes, we’re going to have on there, all the things we’ve done before, of course, we’re going to still have all that, but what we’re going to be talking about and what we’re going to be showcasing is the person you’re stepping into, with like a well told story in your summary, right kind of narrating your journey a little bit, highlighting your the achievement and endorsements and recommendations that brought you to where you are today, right not about what things you used to do that that are relevant to the chapter you’re stepping into write having a compelling headline that encapsulates your expertise, your value proposition, what’s different about you, what makes you unique, these are all things you can take control over, right? So Way number one that you can take control of the first impression that people have of you online. And the next thing we’re to talk about here, and I talked about this a lot, and this is one of the reasons why I talk this is not one of the reasons this is the number one reason why I incorporate press and PR and media for credibility and leveraging that for more credibility is because that helps with your first impression online. Right. So when you are consistently featured in the media, in you know, press releases interviewed on podcasts, or newspapers or magazines, you get to borrow the credibility of the person that the host that’s that brought you on for that right? Or the publication that interview do, or the publication that you published in, right. So that immediately gives you more credibility, even if your your actual experience in this new chapters been about three weeks long, right? This should be the very first thing you focus on. Because when you are, you know, listen, if you’re not 20, if you’re over 20, or even over 30, or 40, which is most of the people that listen to the show, then you’re coming to this next chapter with lots of years of expertise. So we’re going to leverage that expertise with some press with some PR so that when people throw your name in a search bar 10 pages come up, right, that’s what we want for you. All of those media entries that they see when they search for you add to your credibility, add to that first impression so that you’re making this brilliant and beautiful and phenomenal first impression online and you can control this, Oprah’s probably not going to come knocking on your door. Right? So do you have some business milestones, write some press releases about those things, build relationships with the journalists and the industry influencers in your industry? Right look, for more speaking opportunities and panels to gain exposure, there’s talks that I did five 610 years ago, that are still coming up, when people throw my name in a search engine, they come up high, depending on the impact that the organization that brought me into speak has on on their digital presence, right? So you want to and you want to showcase these media features on your LinkedIn profile, right? Because again, we’re talking about that being the cornerstone of your brand, and other digital platforms, because you want to do all that to it all enhances your credibility, and helps you create that beautiful, brilliant, first impression online. These are all the kinds of things that we help you with in our choosing accelerator program. We have a 12 week program that gets you started. I mean, we meet you can’t do this yourself. It’s hard to do this yourself. You’re, you know, you’ve never been this person before. How can you step into this new identity without help and do it successfully? Right? I mean, maybe you’ll have some successes, but why not? You know, stick with a group of people that have proven successes around this and hang out with a bunch of other women who are killing it and are holding each other up as they’re stepping into this new chapter. Now there’s one more thing I want to talk about. And I’m going to dive a little deeper into this than the other two things. And that is, that is the connections that you have, right the connections that you have add to your first impression. Right? First of all, if your first impression is because a podcast host or somebody in the media share that they interviewed you, you immediately have more credibility than your competitors that maybe don’t have those same things, right. So, so surrounding yourself with people in this digital age, that have a brilliant brand of themselves, is especially important for women transitioning from like corporate to entrepreneurship, or if you’re just been a coach for a bunch of years. And now it’s time to just level it that heck up, right, like your next chapter is not gonna look like your last chapter. And a big part of that is the people that you surround yourself with. So online networking can be just as powerful as those face to face meetings when we do this, right. You know, we’ve learned that we just spent, you know, a year or whatever in place where we were doing all of our connecting online. So we’ve learned the power of zoom, I do think there’s zoom fatigue is real. So I have a personal commitment to do you know, more in person lunches more in person events, I literally have it on my marketing plan, which we teach you in Archie’s LinkedIn accelerator program, I have it on my marketing plan, that I want to have a person in person lunch with somebody once a week, because I need to get away from my computer screen. There’s a lot that can also be done online, right. And when you’re doing these things you’re building, you’re surrounding yourself with some of the smartest people in the world. It this establishes your professional credibility, right, your network, partially determined to find your credibility, the company you keep, so to speak, right? It can lend a significant personal clout to what you’re doing when potential clients or partners look you up and see that you have this brilliant network, and people are talking about you, and you’re posting pictures of you with respected professionals and some of the smartest people in the industry, it reinforces the trust in your brand. It also expands your reach and your visibility, right? Because again, it’s all about the first impression that you’re making a solid online network increases this visibility across all of your digital platforms, right? When you’re interacting with your connections and engaging with their content and contributing to discussions. You’re not just visible to them, but also to their networks. Okay, oh, my gosh, it’s the ripple effect that I don’t think we talked about enough. Okay, the ripple effect of the work that the women in my shoes into the accelerator are doing is so massive, and it significantly broadens the reach of that first impression. Right? Can you see how this all comes together here? Right? When people again, when they’re when they come first come across you whatever that looks like maybe you come up in a search, or maybe somebody saw, you know, talked about you or you were interviewed somewhere or somebody said, all you need to you know, listen to Karen’s podcast, or whatever that is, right. It provides context and depth to your brand. Because your connections offer context to who you are as a professional, right? This reflects like your expertise, your values, your business acumen, right, especially if you’re shifting into a new chapter, this is crucial, because it showcases the breadth of your experience, the depth of your capabilities, and it comes down to the people that you’re surrounding yourself with. Listen, you know, this, you know that I can say, Well, I’m really good at this. And all I’m saying is like, alright, Karen thinks she’s really good at this, it doesn’t really give me any additional credibility. But when you look around me at the people I surround myself with, that immediately enhances my your first impression of me. You want these connections to be authentic, though, right? Like, you know, we can be using digital networking, but we’ve we’ve learned nothing else from living through a pandemic, we’ve learned that authenticity is so important. It’s not just about having, you know, a new business card or a lot of connections. It’s about building those genuine relationships, marketing, you’ve heard me talk about this on the show marketing is much more personal these days. And this is going live at the end of 2023. And you know, what worked in 2018. And 2019 is just not working anymore. The online world is just so noisy. So these authentic connections, more personalized and authentic and vulnerable marketing is what is going to demonstrate your genuine interest in what you do and how you help others. And this is such a powerful piece of that first impression, right? It also showcases your communication skills because they see how you’re engaging with the people around you. right these are. This is also important as you are building a strong brand for your million dollar business like we’re not doing this to make 50 bucks Since 2024, right? We want our cup to be overflowing so that we can serve the world with that overflow that happens when people look at you, and they see the way you communicate with the people around you. Right? It’s social proof. It’s thought leadership, all the buzzwords that we hear in marketing, right? It’s definitely modern marketing. Right. So if you’re, if you’re in some kind of transition, showing that you’re not just capable, but adept at navigating and leveraging you that transition is such a big part of what’s gonna help you have so much success in this next chapter, that you’re adept, that you’re adaptable, that you’re up to date with modern business practices, that you’re up to date with technology that you can show up in this new space in this new room, and kill it, and just be be shining with all of the other people that are doing the things you do, but you are doing it better, right. So this strong network, you know, mixed with active and strategic online engagement, all of this reinforces your reputation. It showcases your expertise, it demonstrates your value and your industry, right. And this is how we we are creating and crafting and being intentional about the first impression people see of us online. And you know, for those of us that are over 51 of the biggest questions I get asked is well, what if people know how old I am? Right? I’m gonna say what I say to that is eff that, right? Like we have more expertise, we have years of experience, you know, as you are stepping into each new chapter ahead of you. Mastering this, these techniques that I’ve talked about here today on this episode is essential to continue to build the brand that is going to pay off for many, many, many years to come. So I just want to recap this for a second, the first thing we have to do is remember that people are creating a persona about you. They are we do it, I do it, I’m sure you can relate to doing this at some point in your life, right. So what we want to do, as smart, successful women entrepreneurs, is take control of what we can take control of maybe it’s not how tall you are, right, we want to take control of what we can take control of. And some of those things are your LinkedIn profile. Right. Some of those things are a consistent process for consistently being featured in newspapers and magazines, and interviewed on podcasts. And then a look around you are at the people that you surround yourself with. Right, you’re the sum of the five people you surround yourself with all those crazy cliches that you’ve probably heard me say 1000 times on the show, it’s important. And it all leads to the persona that people are building in their minds about you before they are making a decision to invest in you. Right, so take control of this. This is the timeless marketing that I talk about all the time. I think that women with more money can change the world. I’ve known Cynthia for a bunch of years now and had the absolute honor of working with her and having watching her shine and just absolutely soar. And the work that she does is so important because you know sometimes the last person we invest in or support is ourselves and her business is solely focused on helping women really take care of their self care really avoid burnout, especially moms and especially moms that are entrepreneurs. For like eight or nine years now. We were together a few years ago. And we’ve recently come back into each other’s lives. So I knew this was a topic that my that my listeners here to the show would want to hear about this. This. Frankly, I want to hear about this whole burnout thing. Right. So I’m so excited to have you here today. Thank you. I’m happy to be here. So you know, it’s interesting. I have, you know, 100 questions for you. But I think the the thing that’s most interesting is the burnout piece, right? My kids are older now they don’t live at home. So I’m not in a state of having to manage raising kids and running my business at the same time. But even without that, you know, I found myself during the pandemic, right? Where you seven days a week, because what the heck else was there to do? Right, and then all of a sudden, back to life. And now I’m still doing way too much. In fact, just like this week, I’m like, I need to have clear boundaries around non work time. So I would imagine I’d I would have been I know because I’ve done this when I had I have four kids, I’ve done this with my four kids at home. That you know, burnout is such a thing. So what made what brought you to kind of bring your focus to that?

Okay, great question. So I think during the pandemic, I was not able to work all the time because I had a kindergartener who was sent home in 2020, and a second grader, and I was in my late 40s. And it was crazy. So I think with kobold, it really turned my life around. I was practicing psychology running a private practice, I had six therapists, hytta, COVID, and how to turn everything virtually have two little kids at home in the middle of the dining room, making it a school. And on top of that, and December of 2020, my mom passed away suddenly. And then during that time, I also became the primary caregiver for my stepfather, who had leukemia that was in a more dormant stage, and it became a cue, and five months later, he passed away. So in June of 2021, I was having a joint funeral for both of my parents, I felt like I had been going through the motions of life, I’d given up my dream of starting an online business, you know, and that’s where you and I had met years ago, but everything had to go on hold. And being an older mom, and I think a lot of people from the generation that I grew up in, you know, being a Gen X person. We were taught, push through, push through, we’re hard workers, we just keep going, keep going. And the concept of burnout gets thrown around a lot. But I think what’s so insidious about it is people don’t know how bad it is, until they start to step out of it. And you start to look at oh my gosh, my world is crazy. I am being pulled in so many different directions. And when you mentioned boundaries, when I looked at the concept of burnout, I really go deep behind what’s causing us not to it’s not just having self care. It’s really doing the deeper work of am I worth it setting boundaries becoming assertive stop being perfectionistic trying to stop this overwhelm that, you know, as entrepreneurs, we want to do all the things all the time. And when we love our work, it’s so easy to say, Yeah, I’ll do that. Yeah, I’ll do that. And then we find ourselves just completely even the thing that we love, we have no time to do anything.

Oh, my gosh, that’s so true. That’s so true. And, you know, listen, there’s something to be said, for doesn’t get easier every year that goes by, right. Every year that goes by it gets a little bit more challenging, you know, for certainly for myself, I can speak to that. I think that, you know, my brain is still engaged. But you know, sometimes the rest of me gets a little gets a little tired from all of this, right. And even that, like, even though just recently, I’ve been thinking, like, I feel like lately, like, I’ve been forgetting people’s names more, and I’m like, is it like, my age? Or am I just freaking over, worked and burnt out? And honestly, like, it was a little bit of a wake up call for me, you know, I’m like, you know, what, you got to deal with this burnout before? You know, yeah, as I’m not willing to just, you know, like, say, Okay, well, let me just take some drugs or something for this, like, No, I gotta, it doesn’t get easier, right. So, you know, I had my kids a little bit younger, and it was crazy, then. So I would imagine, you know, having little kids in your 40s is nuts. It’s nuts. But it’s good. Because on the other hand, like, you’re older, and you have to think about, okay, how do you know I can’t do as many things physically, maybe, or keep up with the 20 and 30 year old moms. However, like, we have more resources, I feel like worldly things to offer our children. So we are kind of like, I don’t think I would change it. I just don’t think I would I was in for Yeah, I get that. You know, I have I walk you know, I have grandkids and I watch my grandkids sometimes. And my mother in law used to watch my kids a lot. And all of her grandchildren, she used to watch them a lot. And I think about her so often now like how much I had no idea how much it took out of her. I just had no idea. And now that I know, I like literally this woman’s been gone for a long time. But I’m talking to her as much now as it did when she was alive. Yeah, I’m so sorry, I didn’t. I’m loving every minute of it. Right, but also like needing a nap a lot. So you’re also making the shift from a therapist practice and in person therapy practice to an online business model. And I know we talked about that years ago, and you explained already in the show what you know why you kind of put that on hold. But tell us a little bit about that. Because a lot of the people listen to the show are in some kind of transition. Right? They are, you know, especially, you know, in 2023 I think this was a big year of transition for a lot of people. We didn’t know what the heck was going on in our lives. The last few years, it was just like, doing whatever we needed to do to, you know, think we could figure this out. But also I think mental health care, mental health care took a huge hit during the pandemic. I think there’s just not even enough therapists to handle it now. And I think like you said, I don’t think we even know what we’re in for. As far as burnout. We don’t even know we’re being burned out or that we’re operating in burnout. So what a crazy what a crazy specialty to have in the first place. And now shifting it. So what made you decide you wanted to shift from private practice to to a coaching practice, or medical private practice, I should say to a coaching practice?

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 8:28
Yeah. So I think, you know, I had had this idea of switching to a coaching practice way back maybe in like, 2016, I think you and I had met for B School, and you know, and it was just becoming like a thing. But you know, I’m the breadwinner, so I had to keep my private psychology practice. And I love psychology and love being a psychologist. And during the pandemic, it was, you know, that was what our income was so, and people were struggling, they were really struggling. But the hard part was, so was I, you know, and I think, you know, there’s a lack of resources. But I think the lack of resources behind the scenes that a lot of therapists and psychologists aren’t talking about, is we were also burnt out, we were hearing so many hard things as we were going through the hard things. And again, it just kept piling and piling. So when I started in February, actually of 2023, I said, this is going to be my year. I am not doing this crap anymore. No one’s going to change this for me. And at the height of making good money with my private practice. I said, this isn’t fueling my soul. I was put here to do something bigger. And I am not going to go out of this world without writing my book, having my podcast comeback and reaching more women. And what I did was I said I have to fast track this because I’m 50 so I have to get my game going. So I reached out and really got focused and I said, I want to work with the women who are in the circles I want to be in. So I heard Chris Carr’s mastermind, I got accepted. It’s amazing. And then you came out with your mastermind. And I said, I love Karen, I’ve worked with her for years, I’m doing that. So I have really put a lot of my energy into being in these two mastermind groups, learning from the people that I want to be like, and getting in those circles with women who are doing what I want to do. And what I found out is it’s not only business that I’m learning, it’s how to be a better woman. So it’s up leveled, my game is a person, like I’m no willing, I’m no longer willing to tolerate, you know, women who don’t want to do better for themselves who don’t want more like, it’s just changed me as a person in the last year.

Oh, my gosh, I love that, well, that’s a big part of why I do what I do. That’s why I do this show, I want more women to understand that there’s support out there for them. Right. And, and it does come down to who you surround yourself with. And, you know, I find, you know, it’s interesting, because I do believe in my heart of hearts, it doesn’t mean you have to let go of the other people in your life. But I do find sometimes that that’s what happens. You know, like, there’s people that you’re just like, ah, you know, I just can’t listen to that anymore. I can’t listen to that, like, I can’t do the whining or whatever, take control and do something or don’t, and don’t whine. Right. So it’s just interesting. But, you know, you talked a little bit about, like, the importance of surrounding yourself with people and doing and how it impacts you personally, you know, I have a mentor that I that I’ve done a lot of work with, and she reached out to me recently with this thing, she’s got going coming up and, and I was looking at it, and I’m like, is this serving me personally or business wise? And she’s like, it definitely. You know, obviously, Karen, if it serves you personally, it also serves your business, right. But what’s really interesting about that was I kind of stepped into the place of Okay, what if this just what am I invested in this just purely to serve me personally? And I was like, Wow, that feels. And then I was like, I don’t even know that feeling. I don’t even know that I have now, it has been so long since I’ve invested in something that just supports me personally, that I did not recognize the feeling. What is like, I don’t even know how I feel. Yeah. So. So I kind of said, Okay, well, there’s your message from the universe, Karen. And so I said to her, we’re gonna keep clear boundaries around this. This is just for me personally, you know, even though I said, if there’s anything we need to talk about business wise, we’ll make that a separate engagement, you know, but it was just so interesting to me, that I didn’t know what it felt like, yeah, I didn’t, I couldn’t recognize the feeling of like supporting myself and I support so many other people.

I just wanted to take a quick break. Okay, so the mamas shrink podcast came out back in 2018 Completely had to shut it down when COVID hit. But now I really you know, I’m starting to have guests for a while it was more solo episodes, but I talk about all the things that I’ve learned in my 25 years of you know, being a therapist and a psychologist of you know, setting boundaries becoming more assertive how to parent, you know do’s and don’ts, like I’ve have my kids around, you know, I just did an episode with my oldest son, my little guys episodes coming out this week. I’m trying to, like, make this so women can get in there, listen to an episode and come out with something they can use to better their life. So whether that be, you know, just relating to the struggle it is to be a woman in this world or, you know, being a mom in this world. I’ve had some of my clients who aren’t moms listen to the podcast, and they’re like, Oh, I listened to that thing you said about boundaries. That was great. And I’m like, great, you know, you don’t have to be a mom. But it’s, it’s for moms.

Right? Because yeah, because you’re bound. You’re just juggling so many balls, right?

Yeah. Yeah, there’s so many topics. I mean, like you’re, when you’re in psychology, you can talk about anything

I bet, I bet, met my daughter, my daughter is in a situation now where her husband just went back to just a new job. And he’s out of he’s in the office five days a week. And they had both worked from home for years. And she’s, you know, a two and a half year old and a four month old. And she was like, Oh my gosh, she’s like, I don’t know, how, how did you do it? How do people do? And I go, I don’t know. But I remember being you know, having little kids and having sign in my office that said, TGIM thank God, it’s Monday, you know, because it was crazy to try and do and at the time I was going in, it was crazy to try to do everything on your home. Right? I can’t even imagine adding and I load.

My boys are always like, Why do you like Monday so much? I love Monday is my favorite day.

Karen Yankovich 16:28
Right? Oh, my gosh, it was crazy. It was crazy. And you know what, and it’s just but listen, I wouldn’t change a thing, right? And she’ll get in that situation. And that’s the thing we want. As women, we want to be there for our families. And we and the beautiful thing about the world we live in right now is we can like it’s I feel like it’s not like the and you’re probably too young to remember this. But it’s not like the I can fry it up in a bacon and serve it up in a pan or something like that. And, like, it’s not that we’re doing everything. Because we need to stop doing everything. But we can craft a business around the life that we want, we can craft a business. You know, like I say all the time, like sometimes people like we just I wouldn’t know what’s important to you, if it’s if it’s important to you to be home at three o’clock, when your kid gets off the bus, we can do that. It’s important for you to take a month in Italy, you know, because that’s where parents live, we can do that. Right? It doesn’t matter what it is, we live in a world now with the tools that we have that allow us to do that. And if we want to do it successfully, right, we have to be very conscious of our own energy.

Yes. Right. Like so important that, you know, I mean, our energy, I think is everything. And I think I make whether you know, clients want to work with us, but also our energy we’re projecting for our kids and the people that we work with. And also I think getting rid of the bad energy, right? Like, I don’t want to surround myself with these people who keep bringing me down. And it takes me two weeks to recover from, you know, spending time with that person. And with the holidays coming up. I’m like, believer, and I was doing this, you know, this might be an interesting fact for your audience, like we spend, you know, so in October, November, December, We’re all worried about the holidays, right? It’s so much stress, then we take January to overcome this stress, that is a quarter of our life every year that we’re spending worried about this nonsense, instead of sending, saying, I’m not spending it with people that I’m only going to see once a year, you know, so those are, you know, things that I’m really passionate about, like, I saw my mom have to struggle being a single mom, and I don’t want that life, you know, and I remember being a little girl saying, I don’t want that. And I’m trying to make other women realize that’s not acceptable. Like, we don’t have to do this anymore. Like we have all these tools. Now let’s use them.

Right, right. Yeah. Oh my gosh, it’s so important. That’s so important. Okay, so now you have shift. Now you’re shifting into more of a coaching environment. Right. So tell us a little bit about that. And what why you made that choice.

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 19:00
I made that choice. Because, you know, for years, I have focused on, you know, trauma and eating disorders, which I’m very passionate about in Lyme disease, but those topics are really heavy. And as I’m getting older, I just realize, you know, I’ve I’ve been in the trenches with that. I’m not going to forget about any of that, you know, there’s a book in me about that. But I want to work at this point with women who have already, you know, perhaps done their therapy and are ready to play a higher game in life who wants to uplevel their game who really want to do the, you know, I think it’s even harder work to say, Okay, I’m feeling happy, but I want to feel great, like I want to new, right? I want to have boundaries. I want to have you know, people in my inner circle that light me up, I want to look forward to the day I want to do great things in this world. And I want to help them get there you know, and I want moms to believe like you can I don’t think moms can have it all at the same Some time, I really think that’s causing overwhelm. It’s, let’s balance it. So you don’t give yourself up and lose who you are as a person while you’re being a mother. And then when your kids are grown going, Oh my God, my whole life is gone. Like I’ve seen so many women over the years, not know what to do with themselves when their kids leave home. And I want women to be in a place where they’re like, I know exactly what I’m doing when my kids leave home. And I’m because that makes your kids feel good, too, because they don’t want to hear about you.

Right, right. Exactly. Exactly. Oh, my gosh, that’s so important. That’s so important. So now you have coaching packages, and you work with women, primarily, one on one, or how in whatever format that you work with them at. And the goal is then to just have more women, like support be like that support that I just said I was didn’t even recognize, right, like be that support for these women that they so rarely have, do you find that, that it’s hard to get women to invest in themselves like that?

Dr. Cynthia Hawver 21:00
I do women feel really, you know, like, hesitant to invest in themselves. And I think the message is, but if we don’t, and I know this, like I’ve invested a lot of money in myself in this past year, you know, joining masterminds, being around more women that are where I want to be, and I don’t regret any of it. You know, after a while you invest in yourself, I think you’re like, Okay, I did that. But oh, so worth it. And I you know, and I hope people who work with me feel that it was worth it. But also, you know, I think you have to say I’m doing this for all the other people in my life. I’m doing it. Because if I’m not in a good place, how am I going to help all these other people be in a good place? You know, and it ripples over whether you have, whether it’s your children, whether it’s your partner, like whoever it is, like if you’re not well, no one’s gonna?

Well, right. Right. It’s so true. It’s so true. You know, it’s interesting, I spoke to a woman this past week about joining our niche, our upfront program, she’s in the accelerator program. And she just technical, she just, she just couldn’t make the commitment. She just couldn’t make the commitment to spend the morning on herself over her family. And then she said, I can’t, I don’t want it was like really heartbreaking to me. She said, You know, I can’t do it. I just can’t do it right now. I can’t do that to my family. But thank you so much for believing in me. And I was like, it broke my heart. Like, of course, I can’t give people you know, I have to I can’t I have to be in integrity with people that paid for the program. I can’t say no, nevermind, I’m gonna do this anyway. But I so wanted to do that. Yeah, I just like felt like, it’s of all the people that need that. It’s somebody like that, right? Because we are so often just, I don’t know, it breaks my heart a little bit. But you know what, that’s why I do my, that’s why I do this show. That’s why you do your show, right? So that they’ve got lots of resources to to pull from while they’re building. And if you recognize yourself from that, know, just know that I’m still supporting you. Yeah. So this, this is going to be going live early November. And then the a couple days after this comes out, we’re going to be doing like a live. I don’t know, we haven’t decided a name for it yet. But it’s going to be like a party, like a business planning party in the free Facebook group, you know, because I do think that the more we serve, the more it serves our business as well. As you know, like you said earlier, when you take care of yourself, and you just keep showing up is good for everybody around you. Right. And I think that that speaks to my business as well. So

That’s one of the things I want to do is make like a mom mastermind, you know, so it’s kind of like you are nourishing your own soul with other women doing Yeah, I love. So what’s up for you in the upcoming year. I’m working on my book proposal, which is exciting. And it keeps kind of switching to, you know, before it was going to be more on like parenting in your, you know, fifth 40s. And I’m like, well, now I’m 51. So it might be more about turning 50. And all the properties with teenagers, right? Is a big year, but it can be a beautiful year I’m finding, especially when you really focus on you know, time is limited. And the more we get in touch with that, the more we’re going to up our game. I plan on starting, you know, groups for women, and doing less one on one work. So if people want to work with me one on one now would be the time because I don’t know how long I’m going to do that. Because I’ve done that my whole life. Yeah. And I think working still, I’m managing my own burnout, right, like because there’s so many things that we can get our hands in. You know, I’m a course junkie. And I’m like, no, no, no more courses. You’re just doing masterminds and focusing on doing what you want to do, because that causes overwhelm and I don’t want to be in

oh my gosh, you’re so right. You’re so right. And it’s it’s I agree and I think a lot of people are starting to feel that way or at least I hope more people are starting to feel that way. You know we need need support more than we need another? Like, I don’t know, if you guys probably have seen my background, I do 1000 videos, but I have a million books, if books and courses were the answer, you know, there wouldn’t be a million a billion dollar industry and self help books, right? Like, if books and courses helped. that would that would not be a billion dollar industry. And it doesn’t mean that they don’t help. It just means it’s not the it’s not the we need more. We have more than that. And and it’s there, it’s so it’s there for us. You know, we’re so easy. It’s we’re so quick to spend money on you know, buying our kids and new $200 lacrosse stick, right, you know,

Or a $300 bat I found out I mean? Right. And that’s such a good point, Karen, because I, you know, sometimes feel bad asking people to pay for my services, especially since I took insurance for so many years. However, I think about things like that. And, you know, I think women need to pay for is a better version of themselves, like your kids need a better mom more than they need a new bat. You know, they think, Oh, my God functions like in his happy, right? It’s so true. It’s so true. Alright, so people can get started with you with this free assessment that you have. Right? So tell us about that. Tell us about your quiz. So I created this quiz. And actually, when I was creating it, I came up with this three stage model that’s similar to physical burns. Because as I was creating it, I realized like, oh, yeah, I went from first degree burnout, to second degree burnout, to third degree burnout. And when you’re reaching third degree burnout, like you need help, like you really do, and I’ve been through all the stages. But we can’t, we can’t change what we don’t acknowledge. So that’s why I created this. It’s it’s 20 questions, it’ll tell you like, are you You know, just dabbling in burnout? Or are you like, beyond, you know, stage three, and you know, Code Red, like, you know, we need to really look at it until we can fix it. And once you know, okay, knowledge is power. And so that’s why I created that.

And low there. I’m your host, Karen Yankovich. And this is episode 258 of the good girls get rich podcast. And we have a unique episode today. You know, a little backstory, when I am looking for topics for this podcast, I’m always looking all over the place, right? Like, what should I talk about? What are people interested in? So for this episode, what I decided to do is I went to chat GPT. And I said, What are the top 10 reasons women don’t use LinkedIn as much as men. And the list of eight Chachi beauty listed 10 reasons. And I was like, I don’t know if I like these topics. And then I said list 10 more and only listed six more. But as I was looking through these things, I thought, wouldn’t it be interesting for an episode instead of picking one of these things, to kind of work through all of these and just kind of, you know, this is just randomly what chat GPT throughout to me. So I feel like I can add my point of view to the answers that it gave me. So that’s what we’re gonna do here today. And bear with me, because some of these I feel like a little BS, some of them I have definitely have an opinion on and others, you know, I agree with and and I think in all cases, maybe you’ll recognize yourself. And maybe you’ll get some tips on how to overcome these challenges so that you’re spending more time on this platform, which is where the money is made. As you move into a new year, this recording is out in October 2023. As we move into 2024, I like to look at this as like the on ramp to our new year, right? Like the q4 is like marketing on ramp, right? So what are the things you need to have in place so that 2024 can be or the upcoming year or frankly, the upcoming 12 months? Doesn’t have to be a calendar year, right? But what do you what can we be doing to make it in this onramp time to make the upcoming year? What we want it to be right. So I think you know, in most cases, and even in my case, to be honest, I was thinking about something today that I was doing. And I’m like, why don’t I do this more on LinkedIn? Right? So even I get caught in these things easy to get caught in the shiny objects of what should I be doing on Facebook or tick tock or Instagram, right. But when I spend more time on LinkedIn, that’s where my business grows. So that’s what I want for you too. So if we’re going to spend more time on LinkedIn in 2024, if we’re going to incorporate it more into our marketing plan, you might have heard me say before we say this 100 times, but when I ask 100 people where their biggest opportunity came from their biggest contract, their biggest sale, their biggest job opportunity. 99% of the time, they tell me referrals, like 99% of the time they tell me referrals yet we don’t spend and LinkedIn is the biggest referral platform on the planet Earth. Okay, but we’re not spending 99% of our marketing time there, right we’re doing we’re still doing like dancing on Tik Tok. So, I’m not saying don’t do that other stuff. I’m saying, let’s use LinkedIn in 2024, or in the upcoming year, whatever that looks like when you’re listening to this in a way that it’s incorporated so that we are not leaving any of this money on the table. If we’re using it 10% of our marketing time, let’s make it 15% or 20%. And maybe add a little bit of our dollars to that or add our marketing dollars to it right? Let’s just increase it and see what happens to our business. What do you say? Alright, so some of the reasons why you might not be using it as much as men. Reason number one, that chat GPT said to me is incomplete or poor profiles. Many women either do not have a LinkedIn profile or possess one that inadequately represents their skills and experiences in this 100%. I agree with many women. First of all, I absolutely agree with the statement that says many women either do not have a LinkedIn profile or possess one that inadequately represents their skills and experiences. I just think we need to do a better job with this. I think it’s hard to do on LinkedIn profile. You know, I’m doing my part, right, we released a very low cost LinkedIn profile training program this year, you can find that at LinkedIn profile training.com. And every single thing we do that is a step above that training, includes we write your LinkedIn profile for you because it is important. And I get, you know, like if our roots are showing, if we haven’t done our hair, we might be hesitant to go out to a party, right? So it’s the same concept here. If you haven’t done your profile properly, you might not be as apt to spend your marketing time on LinkedIn. So take care of this, please, please take care of this today. So that’s off the table and it’s not in our way. Right The second thing under estimation have potential female professionals might feel discouraged if they believe managers or colleagues underestimate their potential on platforms like LinkedIn. And this one kind of is like a burr on my side, right? Because we know this is true. We know women know that very often. Our potential is underestimated. You know, you I’ve spent my, the first 20 years of 30 years of my career in the IT market, and I was often the only woman in a room and I 100%, my potential was underestimated. You know, until I opened my mouth, my potential was underestimated. So, you know, I’ve lived this. So I get, and I’m not the only one, I absolutely know that I am not the only one that has lived this, the only woman that has lived this. So if you’re feeling like the people that surround you, your managers, your colleagues, your co workers, even your clients, your other people in your coaching programs, people that might you may be marketing to, right? If you feel that they underestimate your potential, I’m going to say to that eff them, okay, like, just be you show up, show up big. And let’s, you know, absolutely slay that underestimation because it’s there. But you know what, like, let’s, let’s acknowledge that it’s there. And let’s say, Okay, I’m not letting that hold me back. Right, like, so what do I need to do to overcome that? I’m here to support you with that every step of the way, by the way. Okay. The third answer that Chad GPT gave me to my question is job application qualifications, women tend to apply for jobs only if they feel they meet 100% of the qualifications, which could limit their engagement on job focused platforms. Also 100% True, there are studies that show if there’s a list of 10 qualifications for a job, men will apply to it, if they have four of those qualifications, women need all 10 before they’ll even apply. And you might have had conversations with your friends about this, oh, I can’t apply for that job. Because you know, I’m not qualified. Well, okay. So what if you’re better qualified? What if you’re just generally better qualified, if you’re going to absolutely against delay that job kill that job? And you know, the people that have the can check the boxes of the qualifications? might not do as good a job at that job as you would? Right? How many opportunities? Are we losing out on? How much money are we leaving on the table? Because we do not feel qualified? Again, I didn’t I typically speak to entrepreneurial women. And I did not specify that in my chat. GPT prompt I probably should have. But I think that having this conversation generally serves us better for this conversation. So I left it. So even if you’re not looking for a job, that same qualifications issue might come up if you’re looking to get clients, right, you know, I heard somebody say one time and it was a guy, by the way, you might feel like a fifth grader, but to a third grader, you’re a big deal, right? So even if you don’t feel like the most qualified person in the world, if you’re qualified more than the person that’s coming to you for help, we can still support them. So let’s find those people on LinkedIn. And stop worrying about our qualifications. Okay, we know we can handle this work. And so number four, bias in work environments, women might need to fulfill more qualifications to be hired due to certain biases, potentially differing them from job seeking platforms. Again, we’ve all experienced this, most women have experienced this, okay, is bias and work environments stopping us from using LinkedIn more? I don’t know, I’ve never really thought about that. But maybe, maybe, right, do you? Like, I’d love to know what you think about this. Let’s get over that. Okay. The fifth topic is website navigation. And the quote here is some users irrespective of gender find LinkedIn interface difficult to navigate. I find that BS frankly, I don’t know why it’s even here because it’s saying irrespective of gender, so I’m not even sure why it’s listed here. And again, it’s Chachi PT. We know it’s not perfect, right? But I just thought it was such a great talking I’m pleased to start the conversation. So website navigation really come on, let’s get over that. If you can’t figure out how to get around LinkedIn, book a call my calendar, I’ll help you. Okay, number six, professional networking perception. LinkedIn, primarily brands itself as a professional networking site, which might not align with everyone’s intention or preferences. Okay? That may be true. But if you don’t understand the power of networking, as you’re building your brand, and you’re building your business, that’s something you need to do some work on, do some journaling, do some visualization, do whatever it is you do, talk to your coach, talk to your, you know, talk to your therapist, talk to your know, your mastermind, people, right? We need to be doing better networking, you know, that we heard all the time. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know, you’re the some of the people you surround yourself with. And then we don’t network, right? We need to network we need great, amazing, incredible people in our life. And this is where it happens. LinkedIn is where this professional networking happens, right? LinkedIn, primarily brands itself as a professional networking site. So if networking gives you the heebie jeebies, you know, I’m not asking you to go from 10% of your marketing time to 90%, your marketing time ago, I’m asking you from 10 to 20. Okay, and maybe maybe part of that is, you know, really embracing the concept of networking for 2024, or the upcoming year, right? Maybe that’s what that looks like. And that, again, one conversation, one great conversation with somebody that you didn’t even believe could be in your world. It could change everything for you and for your business, right. But you have to have those conversations to get there. Alright, number seven ambition bias. There’s a misconception that women are less ambitious, which could impact their inclination to use a platform centered around career progression. So here’s the thing, chat GPT, if I can call you out a little bit? If it’s a misconception, why are you listing it here? Because if we are, if women are, are as ambitious as men, then why would it impact our inclination to use a platform centered around career progression? Right? So like, there’s a part of me that almost sees gender bias in these answers, right? Like ambition bias, there’s a misconception that women are less ambitious, which could impact their inclination to use a platform centered around career progression. I don’t know that kind of just that whole statement kind of annoys me. I do think women are ambitious, as ambitious as men. I think the disconnect is not around the ambition, it’s around the energy, our ambitions, we tend to have amazing ambitions. And let’s get real, we can think bigger, I think we can think bigger. But it’s our energy that doesn’t match our ambitions. Right. And that’s where we need to that’s where we’ve got some work to do. So maybe, maybe it’s actually not a myth and misconception that women are as ambitious, maybe women are not as ambitious, maybe we don’t look at it and say, I want to be the CEO, maybe, you know, I don’t know, maybe we need to do a better job of dreaming bigger, right?

You know, let me take a minute here. And just kind of tell you a little bit about our she sent up program, you know, this program has evolved greatly over the years. Get people on your calendar, like we talked, like I mentioned earlier, like the most amazing people that you can network with, so that you can achieve these big dreams. And let me tell you something, this if I had to pick a superpower, this is my superpower is helping you understand how you can create a big fat, juicy content, you know, offering for whatever it is that you do. And then from there, our team writes your LinkedIn profile for you. Right, because we talked about earlier that profile, incomplete profile it gets in our way, we don’t want that to happen. Either, we will write your profile for you. And then from there, we have a very simple system that we teach, to help you put calls on your calendar consistently. We do this in a way that a year surrounded by other women that are just amazing. I wake up every single morning, so grateful for the amazing women I get to have in my life. And sometimes, you know, I got a message from somebody yesterday that said, thank you so much for believing in me. Like it breaks my heart a little bit. I’m happy to be the person that’s believing in them. But I also breaks my heart a little bit. There’s so many women that don’t have people in their life that believe in them. So this is what we do. This is what surrounds the work that we do. LinkedIn and PR the strategies we teach. But fundamentally, what we’re helping you do is step into your next chapter and a strong powerful way for more impact, influence and income. All right, back to our list. The eighth thing on the list, which is very similar to the first thing on the list, it says profile pressure. There’s a perception that individuals are judged based on the sophistication of their LinkedIn profiles, which may deter some from creating or updating one back to the same answer for number one day, let’s get this off your plate. Let’s do this, right, like, if nothing if you get nothing else from this episode, please, let’s get your profile done. And a lot of people you might be thinking, Well, I think my profile is pretty good. And maybe it is. But is it really magnetic? Is it bringing people to you? Or do you feel like you got to spam people to get business? If you’re not feeling like it’s magnetic, and it’s keyword rich? And it’s speaking to your exact right person? Again, grab a call on the calendar. All right, number nine, gender disparity in certain industries, certain industries with a male dominated workforce might have a higher male presence on LinkedIn. Sure, that’s true. But I don’t understand why I don’t I don’t think I think this is kind of a BS answer to this question. Because obviously, there’s certain industries that have a women a female dominated workforce, right? So that workforce might have a higher female presence on LinkedIn. So it doesn’t answer the question as to why more women, more men are on wet on late spending time on LinkedIn than women. So I kind of feel like that’s a BS answer. And number 10. privacy concerns, some women might be cautious about sharing personal information and professional details publicly. This is what I hear a lot about. In fact, very often, when I when we have these calls with people,

we look at your LinkedIn profile. And if I’m not and connected with you already, I’m like, you know, I can’t see your picture. I’m like, wait, what? Right like you sometimes we don’t even know the privacy settings we have on our LinkedIn profile. And the reality is, if LinkedIn is the number one content hub on in the world, if it is the number one networking business networking site in the world, then take your the bag off your head, okay? And show up and make it all public. And just don’t put anything on there that you’re worried about. Right? If and I am saying this like, because I think that they’re not wrong about this that many women are cautious about sharing personal information. So then don’t share anything you don’t want to share. Right? Like double check, what email address Do you have out there, double check what information you have on there. And then let’s take the bag off our heads and show up and shine a light on who we are so that we can be connecting with people at the highest level. All right, so I said that was the first time and I said there’s a few that I didn’t love. So I asked for 10 more, and it gave me six more. So let me go through these six last six quickly. The 11th one, I guess is men use LinkedIn more than women with statistics from January 20 to 2022, showing that 57.2% of users were men and 42.8 were female. So all this is really doing is corroborating the fact that men use LinkedIn more than women. And my my goal on this planet is to change that. Right? One woman at a time. Number 12 women may perceive platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest is more appealing or sexy compared to LinkedIn. Well, this is another one that kind of gets my goat if that’s the saying anymore. What’s sexy is having a lot of money in the bank. Like that’s what sexy, what sexy is being able to go to the mall and buy whatever you want. What sexy is to be able to buy a first class ticket on an aeroplane. Right? Not Pinterest, right? So if this is your perception, please, let’s get over this. Okay, this is where, again, let’s just level it up, level it up. Alright, number three are 13 Subtle societal messages might make women feel that they are too much too strong or too loud, causing them to be less assertive or visible in professional settings like LinkedIn. This is a big one. This is one that I definitely understand. And I probably have experienced what we’ve all probably experienced. Right. But, you know, if you go back to Episode One of this podcast, Karen yankovich.com/ 001, you’re going to hear me talk about the fact that I you know, went to school in the 70s and, and 80s. And women and in the early 70s and late 60s women, you know, women should be seen and not heard. What is it when girls are sugar and spice and everything nice. Right? So I had a lot to unlearn to be where I ought to be sitting here right now with a microphone in my hand, right? I had a lot to unlearn. And those societal messages are not gone. There’s, I mean, if not, if the pandemic taught us anything, it’s how the gender roles are still so ensconced in our in our society. And, you know, too much too strong, too loud. Who cares? I’m gonna go back to who cares, right when you’re sitting in your first class seat on the airplane. You know, let people tell you, you’re too much too strong or too loud. I don’t think you necessarily need to be assertive, but I do think you need to be visible. Okay, I do think you need to be more visible and assertive. You know, listen, I guess I’m gonna say this, I guess it’s the way you define assertive. Right? You can, I’m going to, I’m going to challenge you to look at this, if this is something that you resonated with, when I read it, and I definitely did, I’m going to challenge myself and challenge you to look at the way you define the word assertive, right? I’m looking at the word assertive. And it’s like, is that a bad thing? Right. Is that a? I think, like, I thought it was right. Like my initial reaction was assertive was not a positive word. Well, what if it was assertive just means like, standing up for yourself and showing up for yourself and showing up for your community and showing up for people, it doesn’t necessarily have to mean, elbowing your way to the front of the crowd, right? So redefine this, because it’s probably something that you’re not going to, it’s not going to happen overnight, right, you’re gonna have to continue to come back to this, if, if it’s something you resonate with, you can’t undo many, many years of societal, you know, societal training in your body or societal messages in your body. Just because you decided to write it’s gonna take some time, you know, you’re going to revert back to it. So it’s something that you might have to work on, continually. And maybe it’s something that you want to take a journal on after this episode. All right, number 14, a gender bias exists in certain work environments, which might result in women feeling the need to meet more qualifications than their male counterparts before applying for jobs or even promoting themselves as on a professional platform. And I definitely can get this remember, like the decades that I grew up in, I definitely get this. I hope that it’s not, it doesn’t continue to be true. But I think that it, it does continue to be true. So I’m watching the show called Lessons in chemistry. Have you seen it? At the time I’m recording this, I think I just watched episode three last night. And here’s a woman who’s a brilliant chemist, a brilliant granted, this is in the 70s. I know, the 60s, I think, maybe even late 50s. So we’re not there anymore. Okay. So I don’t want to say I don’t want to be speaking as ever, but I want to talk about it, and then talk about how I don’t think some of it has not changed. So lessons in chemistry is about a woman who is a brilliant chemist, but because she’s a woman, nobody will give her what she deserves. If you watch if you I mean, like I have experienced some of the things that I’ve that I see that show it is a little triggering sometimes, right? If you watch this show, you know, in there’s a there’s a I don’t want to give away if you haven’t watched the show, and I want to give it away. But basically, she’s a brilliant chemist, and she’s relegated to glorified secretary, because she’s a woman. And they make no bones about it in the 60s in the 50s and 60s and 70s. no bones about the fact that she’s a woman and not deserving of this. And you know, there’s some stuff that happens in episode three that like, make your and she stands up for herself, by the way. And again, I’m only on Episode Three, two, I don’t know where it’s gonna go. But that’s what this one is talking about the society, the gender bias that exists in certain work environments. I wish I could sit here and tell you that that was not the case anymore. I remember specifically. But two years ago, I owned I was the president of a company and I was sitting with, we had like a informal board of directors. And we were like salespeople, and we were going out to do some, we had some projects on the table. And we were doing like a brainstorming thing. And we had like, some of the stuff had to get like typed up. And it was sitting in the meeting. It was me and like three or three guys. And I finally like grabbed a laptop and just started typing it all up. And then I looked up and said, I need every one of you to forget that I can type this fast. Because I just I’m like, You know what it was like somebody had to do it. So I just did it. But I remember thinking, This is insane. I am the president of this company. And they all sat there, like waiting for me to type up the notes of this. Right. And I did it because it needed to get done at that moment. But this was like in the 2000s. Yeah, this was in the maybe the late 90s. But the early 2000s. This was not that long ago. Right. So So I say this because I do I wish I could tell you that I think it was completely gone. It’s not. Alright, I’m gonna rambling now. Number 15. intimidation is a significant reason why many women choose not to negotiate their salaries, which may correlate with less assertive networking or self promotion on LinkedIn? Again, I wish this wasn’t true. It probably is. Right? It probably is. We’re intimidated. We don’t feel like we have all the qualifications. We don’t know that we can necessarily stand up for ourselves. Right? This woman in lessons in chemistry was certainly not letting herself be intimidated. There were certain things she had to accept, that she didn’t want to accept. But she did not let herself be intimidated by these things. It was just a fact. Right? So you know, again, this is why I do the work I do if you if this resonates with you, book a call on my calendar because I want this to change for you. And by the way, when you take control of your brand, you’re taking control of your own destiny. Right. And there’s less reason to be intimidated. You’re in less situations where intimidation is even an issue. All right, the 16th and last thing on my list here are on the lat. The list that Chad GPT gave me is the platform’s primary audience consists of b2b users where 80% of social So media leads in this sector are generated. Now I don’t know what this has to do with men or women. But I’m leaving this one in because this is an important one 80% of social media leads are generated from LinkedIn. And there’s there’s citations for all this stuff. If you don’t know what citations are, let me or the citation for that one is this kinsa.com link. The fact of the matter is, if you’re listening to this and say, Yeah, but Karen, I’m b2c, then I’m going to refer you back to an episode that I did a little while ago. And it’ll be linked in the show notes where I talked about the three types of relationships that you need to be building on LinkedIn, the first type of relationship is who’s your client? Let’s make sure we’re connecting with them. And if you’re b2c, yeah, maybe that’s maybe LinkedIn is that place, maybe it’s not. But the second two types of relationships, which is where I spend 80% to 90%, of my LinkedIn strategy with, and that’s what I teach other people to do, are what other people can you be talking to that can refer business to you. So possible referral partners where those conversations are not, here’s what I do, give me your credit card, those conversations, or here’s what I do, who do you know, even if you have a b2c program, or product or service, that’s a b2b relationship. And LinkedIn is about building relationships. And then the third category is, who are the journalists that you need to be meeting with and building relationships with that is another b2b relationship. So if you hear this statistic that 80% of social media leads in the sector are generated on LinkedIn, and you’re like, in the b2b sector, and you’re like, I’m not b2b and b2c, you are leaving an incredible amount of money on the table. Because the most wealth building categories of those three categories I listed are those second two b2b categories. And it’s simple, it can be simple. And I’m not asking you to do this times a million, and I’m not ever going to ask you to do a cold. And I’m happy to tell you what it looks like to do this and how to get some help doing this, just grab a spot on my calendar, it’s the easiest way to do that. So I’m not going to recap this, because I’m already like way over the time that I typically like to spend on these episodes. But I felt like this was a would be kind of an interesting one to do. And you know, I know that anybody that D loves is somebody that I’m gonna love. So when she asked when Karen and I first were introduced, we had a mini conversation, I was like, oh, I need to have you on my podcast. This is such a great topic to talk about. And what we’re talking about today is identity. And Karen is really coming at it from a very much a right brain perspective, with a lot of I’m so amazed you guys listen to her brain when she pulls names of the authors of the books out of her head. And as she you know, she remembers quotes and statistics and who wrote them and it’s amazing. I was very not only am I amazed by her message, but I was really impressed with her brain as I went through this interview with her. So, listen, because I think you’re really going to hear some interesting ways that you can start to embrace your new identity as you step into your next chapter of your life. Yeah, I love this. You know, as I was reading, you know, of course, I read your bio, before we recorded this. But as I was reading it again, there’s just so many places here that I want to dive into. But, you know, tell me first, before we do that, tell me a little bit about what brings somebody from, you know, the healthcare industry and a degree in nursing in biology to mental conditioning, or maybe that’s a little bit more of a normal path. And it might sound like so tell me a little bit about your journey. What brought you to what you’re doing right now?

You know, that’s a great question. I never I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I didn’t believe I could do it. Because my dad, what had a posture that you need to be a nurse or a teacher or a secretary.

Yeah, I went to college for early childhood education. So saying

that his posture, and so I wanted to go to Design School for fashion design. And he said, I’m not paying for that. So I ended up going to a liberal arts college failing out after one semester, and costing my parents a significant amount of money because I really didn’t want to be there. And I was just kind of I was sort of doing drifting is kind of what Napoleon Hill talked about in the book, Outwitting the Devil, where we just sort of drift with no purpose, no desire, and I always wanted to help people. And I had visions when I was very young, of having a healing center. And but it was very different. These pictures, I would say, Were so extraordinary and so different. And

and when you say pictures, you would see that’s pictures in your mind. Yeah,

like a vision you have. And so when I went to my parents, and I said, you know, we’re all cells in the body of God, I had been looking at the grass and like, these are all little people in the body of this line. And they both looked at me and said, Well, that’s nice, dear sir. And so I didn’t choose nursing nursing chose me. I was wandering around aimlessly, and I was offered an opportunity to be paid to go to school to get an LPN, okay, was the lower end and I was like, I wasn’t doing anything else. So I went, and then it’s really a very powerful indicator of how we choose Was that unconsciously another assistant no mindfulness like, oh, yeah, you wouldn’t pay me to go to school. Okay, do that. Then when I was in nursing school, I didn’t really like the limitations that LPNs had in terms of what they could do in their practice at that time, I was living in Massachusetts. So Northeastern University had a program that would take you to a nursing degree from the LPN. So I signed up for that and did that. And along the way, there were so many things that I just I allowed my ego or my intellect to overrule, which were that this was not healthcare, this was disease management. So I had a little bit of a cognitive dissonance and didn’t really like giving people drugs, because I learned early on that you gave one drug, and then another drug had side effects. So, and I was always very holistic. And so while my dad had that posture of you have to be one of these three things, you have to have something to fall back on. He also was taking us to New Hampshire for chiropractic care, because chiropractic at the time was illegal in Massachusetts, okay. You know, look over here, I was sort of, you know, hey, there were two sides of me, he was very psychic and very spiritual and very intuitive about health. And, and so, I have had a little bit of a cognitive dissonance, but I and I navigated that whole pathway, that whole Nursing Pathway, unconsciously, including being the executive in health care. And one day I was I had been working in Hawaii I had and I was flying. Back in the days when the airplanes had magazines. And I was flying to see my parents in LA, and they had an Economist magazine, there was a one page in there about Thomas Leonard, who is the father of the coaching movement. And it was talking about how he developed these coaching, this coaching curriculum and all of this. So I read the one page and I was all in, I couldn’t wait to get off the airplane, got off the airplane, went to Barnes and Noble ordered his book, which was called the portable coach. And I just said, I don’t want to do this anymore. I want to make a difference in people’s lives. And so and I’m not doing that in health care. I’m just loving it. And so I’m very grateful to him, because he became one of my mentors. I was other’s research and development team. I was a founding member of coach university when he started it. Oh, exciting. Yep, and did like a $5,000 coaching program. But then I read the criteria from the ICF, which is the International Coach Federation about how you if somebody if you thought somebody needed therapy, you couldn’t work with them? And I was like, Well, I, you know, there are people that have had therapy that it didn’t work for, and I don’t want to limit so I never certified because I didn’t want to sign the agreement. Right.

I get that. I get that. Yeah. And by the way, how are you qualified to determine if you think someone needs therapy if you’re not a therapist? Right? So sorry, you’re not qualified to help them with therapy, but you have to determine if there be if they need therapy instead of coaching. Right. So. So it was, but it is an interesting, you know, listen, it is I get where they’re coming from,

yeah, I get where and I appreciate where they’re coming from, but I did not want to limit I had that knowing of something that was coming. And so during that process, my husband passed in 2002. Before he passed, we had a, we came to a place of peace, because we had a real rock and a hard place between us. He had the need to be perfect. His mother had been at Auschwitz, she was a perfectionist. He was a designer and a hairstylist had been very famous. And he was the kind of person who could walk into a house and move something a half an inch to the left or right and change the energy in the room. So if the cleaning people came, and they didn’t put things back precisely he like, be triggered by that. And we came to peace about that. But I was meditating one day, and I said, you know, God doesn’t give you a problem without a solution. And, and you call it God, Spirit universe, whatever you want to call it, it’s not attached. And so there’s got to be something else. Because what Thomas taught in his mentoring was not I wasn’t going to do it. And I knew if I wouldn’t do it, nobody else would, because it was like, Oh, you got to find this. And then you’ve got to tell your circle of influence how to figure it out. So that was my first awareness into have needs drive behavior, because I had that experience with my late husband. And so fast forward, I found out that the Germans were using bioresonance devices to shift energy of disease and thought, so I was like, Well, I’m gonna buy one of those things and learn how to use it because maybe I can get rid of them. leads. And so I ended up with five of those things. And I was going around teaching seminars and shifting energy with a spiral resonance equipment. But I had was limited in terms of what I could do. So I found this quantum physicist, I was so proud of my machine. And I went up and showed it to him. He was doing a lecture in Joshua Tree at the time. And he said to me, Karen, you’re every bit as good as that machine. You don’t need it. And I was so offended because it was like, dollars invested in these five machines, that I had to take extra luggage to schlep around the world, by the way, and I couldn’t I had to limit who I could serve. By the way. This is your belief system. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so I didn’t believe him. But he said to me, so just find the fear of fear differentiates it’s all fear of change, it differentiates into fear of the unknown fear of separation, fear of not being good enough, you said, find those fears, and clear those with your clients, you don’t need the machine. He said, and everything will be really good. So I incorporated his teaching about fear. But I didn’t incorporate the belief that I was every bit as good as machines. So one day, I was working in my living room with a client because of course, I had to work in person, I couldn’t work remotely because I needed this thing. And unless they owned the machine, and I felt the energy shift, and I reached over to turn the machine off, only to find out I haven’t turned it on. And so then I went to three of my clients. So what if he was right? So here’s the mindset, this shit, yeah, so I invited three of my clients to work with me for 90 days at no cost to see if I was every bit as good as machine, they found that it was actually better,

I bet I can see that I can see that to be true, right? I can tell I can I can imagine that to be true. Interesting. Then I

promptly sold five machines started operating remotely, and I could and then at the limitations, all these beliefs I had about my limitations were gone, because I no longer needed the machine. So I could work in any time zone, any place from anywhere, as long as I had a phone connection. And so I started developing and I developed what I called consciousness shifting, which I developed an expertise in the beliefs and the programming and the conditioning that we take on. Knowing that from the first three and a half years of our life, were guided by the reptilian brain, the lizard brain, also known as the amygdala. That’s where fear lives and survival lives. And then three and a half to about seven, we get the emotional, the limbic coming in, but without the societal expertise on how to deal with your emotions. So we end up feeling like we live in a pressure cooker overwhelmed all the time. And intellectual thought doesn’t come in until we’re seven. So by the time we’re seven, we’ve 95% of our programming and conditioning, and we’re running on autopilot. And so I become very passionate about, let’s find that stuff and shift it and get you out of your own way. Because you didn’t agree to it anyway.

Well, and that’s one of the things that I saw in your bio, that I’m like, this is really interesting, because I can just imagine that there’s somebody listening, if not everybody that’s listening, because certainly I saw that one, huh. You know, sometimes you’re just like, what the EverLiving heck is going on? You know, like, what is in the way I’m doing the things I’m doing the energy, I feel like I’m doing, you know, I feel like I’m showing up and I’m, you know, and here I am still, you know, so it’s interesting that you talk about, you know, clearing the cellular memory of some of this trauma, maybe we don’t even know it’s trauma, right? Maybe we don’t even know that this was I mean, I’m, I don’t want to put words in your mouth. But I would imagine that trauma doesn’t necessarily have to mean, you know, something terrible happened, it could just mean, something happened, that shouldn’t have happened, right? And you were programmed in a way that was counterintuitive to wear, you know, to be supportive. And now you’ve got this dramatic shift that happened. That needs to be clear, like,

how do you do that? Well, it’s it’s a process. So the first thing is my work is very intentional. And it’s you’re right. It’s I don’t need to know what happened. We don’t we this was not talk therapy. We did not repeat this story. I tell my clients if I don’t want to have the same conversation with you twice. If we’re not moving the needle, I’m not doing my job. And you know, we’re not in a partnership that’s working. And I’ll tell you how to client. I work mostly with women, but I had a male client a few years ago, and he said, I could feel the trauma in his body. And I said, you know, Nick, did you ever have trauma as a kid? And he goes, Oh, no, no, no. Well, it really depends on how you define trauma because it’s the narrative is the interpretation that you put with it. And this fellow had, what had happened was when he was growing up, his mother was always searching for money to buy food to put food on the table. because his father was a gambler, and was spending all the money. So that was traumatic for a young man growing up in a household as the oldest child, having to see his mother go through this and wanting to, you know, want men want to fix you, they want to take care of you. That’s hardwired in them. So it’s about 20 minutes into the session, he started crying, and he said, Oh, my God, I did have this and he told me the story. And so it can be it for me, it’s not, I don’t need to know all the details, because I use muscle testing, to navigate. So Kinesiology. So my work is very specific. It’s not cookie cutter, someone comes to me and I say, What do you want to have be different in your life, and they tell me what that is. I use muscle testing to access their innate intelligence with their permission, of course, and their higher self to guide the session, and we find out what serves their highest and best good and that’s where we go to not always what they say they want. Like I had a client who told me she wanted to be financially fulfilled. And I think those were her words. But what you really wanted was freedom from this identification. So identifications when you identify as she had identified as a donor for several charities, and she was giving all her money away to the charities that yeah, we shifted that identity, and took away the need to give, because needs drive behavior. So if you have somebody who we’ve all had up been around somebody who needs to be heard, and they repeat themselves over and over and over again, and you’re like, I’ve heard you the first time and this is take 17, what’s new here, what it is, because they have no filter, they don’t know they’ve been hurt. So she needed to give, it wasn’t okay for her to have something for herself, she needed to give it all away. And so and she was identified as a giver, and and identified as a large donor of a certain charity. And we just neutralized the energy of that, of that needing to give in that donate it and she had a lot of tears. And we you know, we do carry this energy in our body. And sometimes you feel it might feel like somebody standing on your chest or strangling you or has your head in the vase or has your feet glued to the floor. But I’ve worked with natural laws. So the law says that energy flows where attention goes. So when someone is willing to give that energy that’s stuck in their body or their field, their attention as an observer, not trying to make it go away and not trying to understand it, not trying to figure it out, just observing it just being present to it magic happens. And like, gosh, it’s out and then your bandwidth expands. Because what I find for many clients is, it’s like, we have this funnel thing. And the top of the funnel is a field of all possibility. That’s where everything’s open for you. But over life, the insults and injury and the trauma and the stories and the narratives and the beliefs, they have a spiraling downward so that we’re operating in that lower 20% of that funnel. And we feel like we live in a pressure cooker.

Oh, my gosh, so true. Well, I love it, you talked about identity, because that is something I think we should talk about. Because you know, you you weren’t a part of your bio, you’re talking about the fact that we’ve had some losses as we went through the pandemic, and some of which I think we are clear, right people that we lost, and some of it, we probably don’t even, we might even realize we’re losses until, you know, however many years down the road. And so many people are shifting their identity. I mean, we’re hearing about things like the great resignation, people are not willing to live in the same chapter that they were in, in 2019, before they’re stepping into this new chapter, and with this new chapter, I believe, is our you know, is a new identity for us, and how could we know how to be this person that we’ve never been before? Right, so tell me a little bit about that. And the work you do with these women that are, you know, experiencing this loss, and they are, you know, undergoing this identity makeover?

You know, that’s a really, really good question. So loss could be the loss of a job, the loss of a work environment, the loss of a vehicle, the loss of income, the loss of a spouse, the loss of a marriage, it could be empty nest syndrome, it shows itself in a lot of different ways. And I don’t think that there are many people living on this planet right now that didn’t have some type of loss over the last three years. I completely agree. They may not define it as loss, but they did and with that,

it could be the loss of a dream, the loss of a plan, right like we even that even if the dream is your kids, like you had a dream for your kid to graduate this college, but now your child didn’t survive didn’t really do as well and we’re Jul school as they were doing, I mean, there’s just so many, so many different places that we have to, you know, process.

Yeah. And I feel like we can look at it as a curse or we can look at it as a gift. And in my work with clients, what I know is nothing wants to die. So the old version of you is kicking and screaming and wants to do everything it can to keep you in the known reality. But the truth is, we are either growing or we’re dying. Show me one place in nature where something is not either growing or dying. And if you look at a tree today, and you look at it a year from now is going to look different, it’s going to be bigger and flourishing, or it’s going to be shrinking. And, and I think that one of the common programs we have in society is Don’t rock the boat, just, you know, maintain the sameness. It’s one of the eight ways we choose unconsciously, which was identified first by Robert Fritz and his groundbreaking book, the path of least resistance, and it’s like just go along to get along. But that’s the problem that’s drifting. You know, that’s part of the stuff that Napoleon Hill talked about in Outwitting the Devil. It’s like, there’s no defined purpose. And that’s not who you are. So the first thing is I, what I what I coach on is, who if you could paint the canvas any way you wanted it to be? And you just get rid of all your objections for a minute and do some journaling? If, if there was nothing to stop you, what would you be doing? Who would you be in the world? Who would you? How would you want to show up? Who would you be serving? What are what, you know, where would you be living? What if you took all of those constraints off all those, I can’t do this, if I do that all those stories, and just allowed yourself to dream for five minutes, and not faking it till you make it. But just getting in touch with your heart, and your core and what your soul is calling you to that will change a lot of things for me love that

Yeah, right off the bat of stop dreaming. So I’m really glad that you’re doing the work that you’re doing. Because it’s so important. And it’s important to get support. And I think one of the things that that got really dumbed down for people or maybe was never there, but I’ve noticed a sense over the last three years is people asking for help. Ask for help. there’s help out there there are solutions out there for you. And if you there are ways to get what you want and have the shifts and the changes that you want in the story that you don’t have money the story that you don’t have time 100% as possible 100% of the time, but you have to choose that you have to choose that posture so so I think it’s it’s really important and then for the people who have forgotten how to dream who have stopped dreaming, that is has to do with your own self worth your own value your own self concept and I I can’t To a lot of clients to study Neville Goddard, he was, yeah, well, wonderful. His work. Yeah. And his work is powerful. And what he teaches that, that we’re the offering power. So we are the author, we are the actor, we’re the producer, and we’re the director of our show. So if you don’t like your show, change it, write a new script. And if you need help doing that reach out to someone like Karen, or to me, yeah, and find out what’s in your way, because maybe just a little 15 minute phone call will make all the difference for you. And I really believe and I know, you’ve already said this, and maybe not in his exact words, but you’ve already said this, I really believe that there’s no end to the identity work that I need to do. You know, there’s not going to be a day that I’m like, Alright, I’m there, I’m done. You know, like, I don’t have to do this identity work anymore. There’s always a new, whatever, a new chapter, it doesn’t even have to be level it’s not, you know, it doesn’t, you know, like, you’re saying, you know, you’re you’re growing or you’re dying, right. And, but each step of that is a place we’ve never been before. You know, so I just think when we recognize that, that’s when we like the first step is recognizing that and like you said, you, you know, ask for help, because, you know, we’re here to help each other, not just, you know, help. I mean, I I’m always looking for help on these things. And sometimes I’m better at asking for help than other times, right? But let me ask you this, what practices or exercises can we be doing now to start to cultivate this self awareness, right, so that we can start to build the foundation for personal growth and expansion? Okay,

I’ve got several, I just want to add one thing to Yeah, please. The societal norm, the culture, the programming has been destination consciousness, we are not on our way to a destination, folks, we are on a journey, and it’s a lifelong journey. Choose awesome, or you get to choose it to be mediocre. And there’s no judgment there. You get to choose because it’s your life, your sovereign, your the operant power. I’m just going to encourage you to choose the journey. And choose a

good one. Because you could advise everybody to do that. And everybody listen to what what we’re talking about here.

Yeah. And so one of the things that I teach my clients is you’re placing an order at the cosmic restaurant. So why would you order something you don’t want about a it’s statistically they say about 80% of our thoughts are negative. So how, if you have 80,000 thoughts a day, and the statistics ranged from 70, to 90,000. But 80, that would mean that, but 64,000 of your 80,000 thoughts a day are negative, that’s got to change. So how do you change that, you change that by being in gratitude. Now, a lot of people do a gratitude practice where they write 10 things a day that they’re grateful for, I like to amplify that practice. And the way I encourage my clients to do that, and the way I do it is, not only do I write down 10 things a day that I’m grateful for twice, twice a day, I read it, so when you write it, and then you read it, you hear it, and now you’re visually connected to it, you have a sensory connection to it, you have an auditory connection to it, that gets it in more powerfully than just writing it. So that there’s also for people who have a poor self concept who need to change their self concept, who are living in a victim mentality, start twice a day with a with a practice of five things you love and appreciate about your son, I don’t care if it’s that you got out of bed today. It really doesn’t matter what you write on that paper, you’re, you’re exercising your gratitude and appreciation for you because you are, you have value. The very fact that you exist is evidence of your value, source God consciousness, whatever you call it, is the creator creator didn’t create anything without value. So I find for the identity piece, people have to own their value. And if you’re struggling with that, then find someone who can help you figure out why you do that because many, many people have made poor decisions and they’re still beating themselves up for the past and that is creating their present and their future. And all we have is now all we have is this moment. So in this moment, your job is to be the best version of you that you can be and decide what you want. And the filter that I like to share with people for making choices. is a two fold filter and step one is is this choice loving and kind of me to me and If not, why would you even consider doing it? I mean, really, and and then the second filter if it if the answer is yes, and you’re still going forward, the second filter is does this move me closer to what I want? Because again, if it’s not moving you closer to not your destination, but your journey to the individual, the sovereign human being that you want to be on this planet, and the person that you want to step into so that you can share your gifts and your magic because there is only one of you, by the way, then, hello, why would you

go there? Right, right, right. Oh, my gosh, that’s great. That’s great. This is great advice. This is great advice. I love that you talk about, you know, we do hear a lot about gratitude. And I, you know, I and I don’t want to say that, like, it’s not important, because I believe it’s very important. But I liked that you take that to the next level. And you’re like, you know, just stick with it. And I think that that’s important. Because I know for me, and for many women, right? We have a to do list and you know, as much as we want to say I’m going to be in this space of gratitude. It’s also kind of on our to do list, right? And once we’ve checked it off in the morning, we’re done with it, right? And you’re saying no, no, bring it back, live in it, spend it, spend time with it, spend multiple times a day with it, infuse yourself with it. And I think that that is a big difference between I have a morning gratitude practice.

Yeah, it’s a state of being gratitude and appreciation or state of being years ago, I took a course with someone and he approached he suggested doing an appreciation lock without your cell phone where you would go out for 10 minutes a day and just appreciate the way the air felt on your skin. Appreciate the way the sun felt on your face. It’s beautiful. The color of the sky appreciate the color of the flowers you encountered, and just be in this total wave of appreciation. And it does make a difference because your vibration matters. Hawkins years ago wrote a book power versus force. And he identified a logarithmic scale in that book that went from zero to five to 1000. By 1000, being Christ Consciousness zero, pretty much. And 200 was a critical level of courage and integrity. I don’t know if you’ve read that book.

I have read some of it. I don’t think I read that book. I read letting go. Which I love.

I love that book. Yeah. So anyway, at a level of 500, the frequency of love, which we can all attain, we can all be that we can all choose that love is our dominant vibration, you offset 750,000 People at the lower levels at 200 and below. So why wouldn’t you want to do that? Right? And

isn’t that much more fun? Like, isn’t that a beautiful way, but there’s an intention that has to happen, we can sit here and say it all you want. But life gets busy life gets in the way. And I I you know, I’m I don’t know why this came to me. So I’m going to talk about it, I talk a little bit like if I’m standing on a stage and giving a talk to people, I say I know you’re like I can see you’re taking notes, I can see you’re all doing this. And I love that you’re doing that. But see those doors over there, like the exit doors. Those are the doors of amnesia. The minute you walk through them, you’re back in your regular life and you forget all these things. So what are we going to do, so that you actually put some of this into practice? You know, and that. And I say that not to shame anybody that’s listening here right now. But to say it is, it’s a common thing that you you really, you’re listening to this, and maybe you’re feeling excited by it. But putting it into practice is not an easy thing to do and to stay in that place. Right? There’s an intent, you have to be more than intentional, you have to be, you have to have an intention in a follow through practice. I guess I’m not even sure what that looks like. But it does come down to I think that people you’re surrounding yourself with too. If you’re surrounding yourself with people that help you stay in that space, it’s a lot easier to stay there.

Yeah, your environment is so important. And your environment is the people you’re with a clutter that you live with the things you tolerate, to other things people can do to help this one is a tolerations list, write down everything you’re putting up with every new floor and get it all written down. Look at and ask yourself, How can I group this into categories? And when you group it into categories, you can then say, Okay, what one thing could I do that would wipe out most of the things on this category? It’s quite extraordinary because they it will self organize.

love that idea that came from Thomas Leonard. He taught me that many many years ago. Oh my gosh, it’s brilliant. The other thing for people who’ve stopped dreaming is to start a list of 100 things you want to do happy or experience before leaving the planet. Believe it or not, Karen I’ve had clients that couldn’t get past 12

I do believe it. I do believe it. I am I know that you guys are listening. This is an audio podcast but in my hand is my list of things I want to do be have and I created it every now And then I started a new one. And on this new one, I’m up to a whopping 30. So I get it. I got it. You know, it is harder than it sounds.

It illustrates how small we live our lives and then what, what a small container is to exist in. And what if you could expand that, like, I’m going to go on? One of the things on my list? Well, I’ve got a couple that are have to do with travel. But one is to go on the Camino. I have a really good friend who takes trips on the committee takes people on the Camino in Portugal, and she’s done multiple times. She’s there right now. I wanted to go on this one. But my nephew is getting married on the 14th. And there was little date clash. Yeah. So in May and June of next year, I’m going to be in Portugal with my friend Jennifer on the Camino.

Thank you the info about that. If you’re if you want to know about it, definitely send me info about that. 10 miles a day. And if your feet are sore, and you don’t want to walk, you can take a cab for about $3. And they stay in these cute little lodgings along the way. They’re, they’re clean and comfortable. But they’re not like the five star. Right, right. And it’s a spiritual, it’s kind of a pilgrimage. And it’s a walk and you can walk alone, you can walk with someone, you can walk with a group, and they all meet up for dinner. But the day is yours. And so it’s 10 miles a day. And if you don’t want to walk today, you can take a cab and meet the group, the next location, and they show up your luggage.

Amazing. It sounds like amazing. It’s amazing. Yeah, yeah.

But that’s one of mine. And, and I think the other thing, there’s one other thing I’d like to share? Well, I could share a whole lot. But

yeah, I would love to hear it. And then we can, I know we could talk for another two hours, needs drive behavior.

So just like the person who needs to be heard, they have no filter, but knees when if you’re stuck. If you’re experiencing stuckness, I can almost promise that you have a needs pattern, either in opposition, or what I call a circular logic pattern. And here’s an example of what I mean by that a child that grew up in a home where the father for example, modeled the need to be heard the child looks up to the Father and they start doing that this is the unconscious program. And now the mother comes in and goes children should be seen and not heard. So now the child needs to be seen and not heard. So now we have a juxtapose need to be seen, I mean, need to be heard, need to not be heard. So then you filter in, maybe something that happened that caused the child to need to be safe, and not and need to hide. And now they need to be seen. But it’s not safe to be seen. Because they need to be high, they need to hide, and they need to be heard. But it’s not safe to be heard because children should be seen and not heard. And that is a circular logic pattern. And it’s a very easy one to disable. But it’s if you’re stuck, there’s very likely something like that going on. The biggest one I’ve ever found was 11. And it was the client that had some severe trauma. And the smallest one I’ve ever found was three.

Wow, wow. You know what, I’m pretty sure that everybody listening here right now is saying I think I need to talk to Dr. Karen. Good thing lucky for them, you’re willing to do that. So is there anything else that you want to share? This has been so important, because here’s the thing, I mean, I know that I just want to kind of bring this around to kind of tie it together in that this podcast is typically listened to by entrepreneurial women, or women in some kind of transition, maybe they’re moving from corporate to entrepreneur and, and this kind of stuff can get in your way. Right? And it’s and it’s sad to me, right? It’s sad to me, because you’re so brilliant. And you have so much to give the world. So these are these things are just as important as creating your website, right, like really showing up into this new identity or the identity of this person. And, and when you’re doing this, I don’t want to say it makes everything simple and easy. Because you know, that’s it’s it’s not easy to be an entrepreneur, it’s a brave choice. And at the same time, let’s give ourselves as much, you know, as much of a chance as we can write and create a life that we’re thoroughly enjoying and not struggling in, you know, and if we can get rid of a little bit of that struggle even it’s so powerful.

Well, you get yourself out of that pressure cooker I mentioned earlier and you get to move up to the top of that cone that funnel. Where is the field field of all possibility? And yes, the clients you’re serving when they’re moving from corporate to entrepreneur, that’s an identity loss. Absolutely. And the secure, logical, practical version of them wants to keep their feet firmly rooted in cooperation. Their Spirit is guiding them To people like you to you, too, how do I, how do I change this, and that. So that’s, that’s huge and recognizing that nothing wants to die. And that there, you can create a bridge between the two that it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing, it doesn’t have to be either. Or, you can create a bridge that will allow you to have what neville goddard calls a bridge of incidents, I believe he calls it, and you can create that. But the way you create that is by being very intentional about what you want. So if you want to become an entrepreneur, and you’re choosing that, then live in the acting as if I am that and allow the spirits that be the forces that be the energies that be God’s consciousness, to organize that for you. And I do work with some people in corporate. So

Hello there. I’m your host, Karen Yankovich. And today’s episode is one of my favorite topics, because it just kind of leans into my commitment to create a business that really supports the life that I want to lead. And it’s one of the areas that I work with my clients on as well, because I think this is one of the biggest keys to having a really successful abundant business. And the topic is, what if you only had high quality clients, just like imagine that forget it just kind of sit in the yumminess of that, you know, when I first started, my business had like, a decade more than a decade ago, in the version that it is right now when I first started to shift my business towards the structure that it is now I just took clients where like I did business, so I took on everyone and you know, it’s it’s was not always a good thing very often, it was just a mismatch in ideals and mismatch. And even just if I was able to help them or not, right, like I could do the tasks, but sometimes there just wasn’t the kind of connection that I like to have, where I knew my client really knew where I was coming from, and I really knew where they were coming from. So it was a little bit of a struggle, right to have to help them have success. So it’s not that they didn’t have success, I had to work even harder to help them have success because I because I wasn’t necessarily understanding what it is they did and how they did it and why they did it. Right. So I had to work even harder. And it took a lot more energy. And it’s draining, it’s draining right. And but at the time, you know, starting a business, I needed clients, I took whatever, but anybody that had a credit card, right, and maybe you’ve done the same maybe when you started your business, you’ve done the same and maybe even today, sometimes you feel like you’re doing the same. And it takes courage to start leaning into being picky about the clients you take on it takes courage, especially if you’re in a place with your business where you have a commitment, and maybe you’re not quite meeting that commitment. Maybe it takes courage to be like, oh, this person isn’t really a fit. But when you do this, when you start leaning into this, so many things change in your business. And this is where you start to create a business around the life that you want around the life that you’ll be surrounded by the kinds of people you want to be surrounded with right? Things like, you know, trust and loyalty, high quality clients are more likely to trust your brand, right? They you know, if they’re, if they’re coming to you, and there’s a lot of as a high level of connection and a high level of investment. They are, you know, you’ve got a customer base that consistently comes back to you for your products and services over your competition. There’s less complaints, there’s less refunds quality clients or you know, typically satisfied clients. There’s a connection there. And that connection brings that that trust I talked about earlier, because sometimes there’s a little bit of a miscommunication, right. But if you have that trust, you can fix that miscommunications before it leads to things like complaints and refunds. Because often, you know, again, it’s just a miscommunication. It’s not that you know, you are, you know, you’re happy to fix whatever it is that needs fixing. If that needs to happen, right, you get more word of mouth recommendations more, you know, satisfied, high quality clients are more likely to recommend you to other people, right, and they become like brand ambassadors to you protect your brand, you know, greater customer satisfaction. I mean, I talked about this, I’m like 30 times, I want to like put my clients pictures on my refrigerator, like my kids report cards, you know, like the press, they get the media they get, because I’m so proud of them. And I love when they’re happy, I’m happy. And then there’s just this like mutual admiration society, right. And all of that leads to higher financial benefits in your business, catering to high quality clients, who appreciate you and who are willing to pay for your high level of service kit leads to improve, increase profitability, stable revenue streams, and all the things we go into business to do. Right. So let’s talk a little bit about how we get there. How do we get to these high quality clients? Well, who’s ready? Who’s Who’s gonna be surprised by what I’m gonna say next? LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the place that it should be the hub for your high quality clients. It’s a goldmine for finding quality clients. It’s got a professional user base. LinkedIn is clients have a higher income level than average income level than any other platform. Any other social platform that’s out there. People on LinkedIn are expecting to be networking for business, right? So you’re gonna want to use LinkedIn as the base as the hub for this high quality client attraction strategy that you have. You want to have a profile

That speaks to those high quality clients with professional photos and a compelling bio. And you want to have your featured section working so that you have, you know, your expertise and your achievements are shown so that they feel confident, even in investing in that first conversation with you, right? High quality clients want to work with high quality coaches and consultants, and they want other high quality people in their life. So before you even get on the phone with them, and you can see if there’s that, that connection, you have to look worthy of their time, right. And then of course, there’s, you know, there’s some strategies for doing this. And that’s what this show is about. And that’s what a lot of the work that I do is about, you know, you want to be engaging with industry leaders regularly updating and engaging with your network and maybe doing a different kinds of content across the sphere, like video and audio and just plain old content, talking a little bit about the work that you’re doing, maybe the panels that you’re on write things that really position you as a leader in your industry, because your high quality clients want to work with the best in the business. So you have to show up first and foremost, like you are the best in the business, right? You know, the next thing you want to do is start to build those authentic relationships on LinkedIn, you want to have, you know, I’ve talked on the show many, many times about the different kinds of connections you want to build, we’ll link to some of that in the show notes. But you want to be picky. Right? If you’re if you are like, you know, one of the things I talk about is looking at a directory stay for a chamber of commerce or a networking group you belong to be picky. Just build relationships with the high quality people in that network. It’s not like you don’t you can’t hang out with everybody. I’m not saying ditch everybody else or dump everybody else. But what I’m saying is let’s keep our focus on the high quality clients when we’re doing this outreach, right, engage with their posts and content from these potential clients, you know, ring their bell on LinkedIn, so that you see what those potential clients are talking about. And, and you can jump into those conversations you’re sending, you know, you’re sending personalized messages to them, not just engaging on their message, maybe even messaging them privately and saying I saw your post today on LinkedIn, I love that you’re talking about this, you know, not enough people talk about that kudos to you for bringing this to everybody’s attention, right, like dive deeper into these, these relationships with these people that you think can be your high quality network, your high quality client, right? I mean, these are the kinds of things that when you do this, it attracts high quality people to you, I can tell you that, you know, in my personal experience, and I can give you probably 20 examples of clients where you know, where I have engaged authentically in conversations, but because my profile was set up to easily see what it is I do, and how credible I am, and also had a really easy way to get on my calendar, I have brought clients in within 24 hours of them even knowing who I was high quality clients, because I have done this work, right. And I’ve shown up at a high level. And that’s what you can do as well. Right. And by the way, you know, once this happens, this is when you get to spend time with these amazing people.

The next thing that you can do to kind of deepen your strategy to fill your life with high quality connections, high quality clients is start to utilize some of the PR strategies I talked about on the show, you know, connecting with journalists engaging with the media, leveraging your social proof, right highlighting, you know, you want to you want to have a consistent strategy for being featured in the news interviewed on podcasts, things that will let your high quality people know who you are. Because sometimes you might have a high quality person and you feel like you’re a high quality person but there’s just a disconnect, right? You’re just not just not a Connect and understanding each other. The PR piece of this helps eliminate that because they’ll get that and they’ll be like Karen Yankovich Bush She sounds like she knows her stuff. But she talks 100 miles an hour I would never do that.

Do that right? Like, maybe that’s okay, that’s okay. That’s who I am, right? I am like high energy from New Jersey. So if that’s not what you’re looking for this PR strategy, these PR strategies that I employ that get me, you know, my podcast alone showing up with this show, but also being interviewed on other people’s shows and being introduced to other people through the PR strategies, I have help the high quality clients out there, decide if they even feel that there’s a connection with me, before we even have a conversation, right. And this is how you build more ease into your business. And by the way, these PR strategies is how you build that magnetic strategy, that magnetic marketing into your business when you are, you know, when you’re interviewed in newspapers and magazines, and a podcast, and you’ve quoted in places and other people’s are quoting you, this is how your your marketing on with these LinkedIn and PR strategies becomes magnetic. And all of these things lead to those higher quality clients. So you want to integrate these strategies together, right? You want to make sure that as you are, you know, looking at potentially podcasts, or newspapers or magazines that you want to be interviewed and quoted on. So I connected with those writers, right, use LinkedIn to start connecting with those writers who did the work to position yourself as a thought leader in your own profile, start positioning yourself with, you know, start connecting with these journalists, and start to share, like and comment on their articles. The beautiful part about connecting with journalists is that they’re prolific, right? Like we journalist that like my podcast comes out every week, there’s always something to talk to me about if you want to build a relationship with me. And that is exactly the same for other people that have podcasts or news or write articles for newspapers or magazines, right? So do that look for those articles. And don’t just share the article connect with the journalist tagged a journalist engage those journalists in your conversations on LinkedIn? Right, this is how you integrate these LinkedIn and PR strategies, you might be familiar with help reporter which is a we’ll put a link to it in the show notes, which is a platform that journalists are looking for sources for their stories. And you know, you have to be really careful because their Terms of Services can you know, respond to this source only. But if you see a source that you know, is consistently coming up in help report or requests that write articles about what you do, it’s I think it’s perfectly acceptable for you to go on over to LinkedIn, and connect with them and say, you know, I responded to a few of your requests on harrow not sure if I’m a good fit or not, but I wanted to connect with you here. Because I love the topics you talk about. And maybe I can help you find other sources for your stories, right? Like, don’t you’re not even just pitching yourself, you’re building that relationship, right. So there’s, there’s 100, other tips and tricks to use LinkedIn and PR together. But this is just a couple of them to start to build those relationships with those journalists. Okay, so let’s recap this a little bit. Here, you are looking to keep all of your focus on high quality clients, you want to just spend a minute, just thinking about what a high quality client looks like, and leaning into the courage to be picky about the clients you work with. And then start to position yourself with your profile, so that these beautiful high quality clients know that you are exactly the right person for them. You want to start to build authentic relationships with them on LinkedIn. So that now you’re not just pitching them, you’re not saying hey, here’s who I am, give me your credit card, you’re building actual relationships with these high quality clients, you’re starting to, you’re starting to infuse some PR strategies, right? So that you’re starting to get seen in newspapers and magazines, and you’re starting to get seen as an expert, so that these high quality clients can start to know that you’re worthy of their time. And you’re they’re going to integrate these LinkedIn and PR strategies together, so that you can really put a little fuel under this fire and have it happen really quickly. Right? I want you to just stop and think for a minute about how unbelievably amazing it would be. If you just had if your business was just full of people that you could not wait to get on the phone with. Like, just I can’t sit here in silence because this is a podcast, but I kinda want you to like pause for a second and just spend a minute thinking about this. Right? I know that there’s been a time in your life that one of your clients has been on your calendar and you’ve gone like, oh, I can’t wait to talk to this person. Right? I don’t want that anymore for you. i That doesn’t have to be that way. Right? So I want you to think a little bit about your current client acquisition strategies. And think about how it could shift so that you can maximize the benefits of only having quality over quantity. Right? Think about how beautiful and amazing that would be. And that you know, the best part about this is, at this moment in time this podcast is being released live in the fall of 2023. Marketing is the marketing that works best is more intimate. We’re kind of overall the noise of social media. It works but you know algorithms change as well.

If and as we, you know, change our clothes and, and we don’t know how to work through them and you know, but this building relationship stuff, it’s timeless, it’s timeless marketing, and it can build your business. And this is the people that are successful in business right now, this is what they’re doing, this is what they’re doing. And you can be doing this as well.
