About the Episode:

Wow! Can you believe we’re at episode 100 already?!

I’ve learned SO much since episode 1 and that’s what I want to talk about today.

I do a ton of reflecting in my OWN business within this episode, that I wanted to give you the advice I have on how to grow your business with ease.

I like to compare this to being like a mermaid! I tell the story in the podcast on how I went to my friends house and she had gone through a ton of stuff in her personal life, and she had multiple Wonder Woman mugs. I was pretty overwhelmed at the time and she gave me one of these mugs to keep my strength!

One day I was making myself tea in the morning and I was completely exhausted… I was burnt out, had a to do list 45 miles long, was late to a million things, and all of a sudden I look over and I see a mug that said “I want to be a mermaid”

So I put down my Wonder Woman mug and from there on out I decided that I wanted to be a MERMAID! I didn’t want to have to “fight’ for my job like Wonder Woman, I wanted to swim through my business like a mermaid!

Since then I have made it a priority to help women just like you grow your business with ease, however I know it can be tough to even just get started with that. So I wanted to give you a little boost in this episode and give you the basics on where to start on how to grow your business with ease so you can swim through your business and grow your Mermaid Empire just like I have!

Make a list of everything you market and sell in your business

When making this list, include absolutely EVERYTHING; both free and paid. This is where you can really see everything that you have to offer to clients.

When writing down this list, think to yourself…

  1. Does it flow with my business?
  2. Do I love everything on this list?
  3. Does the site of one of my projects stress me out?

Feel free to add things you want to bring to your business within the next 12 months as well! This is one of the crucial steps in growing your business with ease and building your mermaid empire.

Create a VERY basic business plan for each of your offers

And when I say basic, just know, we are brain dumping here, so no need to get into too much detail for each of these.

When outlining a basic business plan for each service make sure you include the following things:

  1. How much revenue does this plan to bring in?
  2. Cost associated with the product or service
  3. Do I need to adjust my pricing?
  4. Do I even love this/want to do this, or  should I let it go?

As you go on with creating a mini business plan for each of your products or services, this will allow you to really recognize what’s important to you and your mermaid empire and what you need to cut out.

While looking at this list, it may not feel like your about to grow your business with ease, but like I mentioned in the podcast…

“The more I niche my business down, the more successful my business is!”

Niching down and really understanding what you need to put your time and energy in, will free you up from those burdens that take away time from the ideal life you want to be living.

Apply your list to your life

At this point you should understand what direction you will be headed in the upcoming year, so now it’s time to apply them to your life!

Remember: I want you to grow your business with ease… but why? It’s because I want you to build a business that supports your dream life!

We are building your Mermaid Empire here! Niching down and growing your business with ease will help support what’s important to you in your personal life, whether it be spending more time with your children, traveling more, etc.

Each of your products or services should lead to supporting your ideal life. If it doesn’t, ask yourself why. Is it because it’s a new product that you need to put a ton of time into developing? Maybe it is, but once it’s developed and sold, that means you’ll get to live off the profit and allow your business to grow with you on the beach!

As we move into a new phase into your life, I want you to dream BIG! That’s why I wanted to give you this free download to help you get started with thinking big and growing your business with ease and creating your ideal life!

Join us at karenyankovich.com/facebookgroup and share what YOUR ideal life looks like so I can support YOU in getting there!

So so much change since episode one. So much changed since episode one. And if you listen to Episode 96 we’ll link to it in the show. notes, I talked a lot about how much I’ve walked away from, in order to be able to be creating the business in the life that I love. I mean, I have no problem working hard. But it was getting to the point where all I was doing was working and I wasn’t really seeing the results that I wanted to see, in my business.

And in my life, I was finding myself having to say no to personal events, or, like summers, I live at the Jersey Shore. I wasn’t getting to the beach enough cuz I was working too much. And so it is for me, it isn’t about that I am not a fan of hard work. It is about the fact that I’m a fan of working so much that it impacts my life, right.

So that’s why I went into business for myself so that I could build a business and allow me the flexibility to do things but when you have a to do list 45 miles long, you just don’t do it even even if you have the flexibility to do it right. So one of the things that I’ve done very intentionally, and I’m probably still doing in the past 100 episodes, is looking at what I have to walk away from.

And that’s what we talked about an episode 96 You may remember that get seen be heard workshops that Christina days when I were doing we closed that down fully, mainly because, you know, we were teaching social media and PR and it was, I mean, people were having amazing successes and Christina and I love doing it. But social media changes so much that everything needed to be updated a million times. And I was starting to get out of my zone of genius, which really is relationship marketing and LinkedIn marketing.

So what that did when we first shut that down about two years ago, or a year and a half ago was it allowed me to refocus on LinkedIn strategy and LinkedIn marketing. And what I’ve done since then, is I’ve niched down even further as you know, in the past couple of weeks I guess or month to LinkedIn for women, she’s linked up my course has been rebranded she’s linked up.

And here’s the thing. The more I do this, the more I walk away from in the morning niche my business down, the more successful, my businesses.

Let me tell you a little a couple of things that led me to some of these decisions because I know that it’s not easy to do.

I absolutely suffer from shiny object syndrome. And I try not to I’m trying to stay more focused. And guess what, the more I build space into my life, the easier it is for me to stay focused on shiny object syndrome and not take not jump into those shiny object because I have more time to think about it and plan for things as suppose for jumping into things going. Sure I can do that. Right.

So a couple years ago, I have some of the most amazing friends and I’m so blessed for that. And I have a friend and I was I was doing some work with somebody and we were we were kind of talking about warriors and I was like, I’m like one woman I can do anything and I had these bracelets if you guys are familiar with the oh my gosh what is the touchstone crystal bracelets the the the ones that are kind of like the circle bracelets I can’t remember what they’re called they look like they’re just colors they have like lots of lots of colors and I happen to have like a red one. A purple one not a blue one and a white one and yellow and so I felt like they were like wonder like a Wonder Woman cup.

So I was wearing them one day because I was like I am like I can do anything I can do this. I got it. I can do this. And I went to a friend of mines house and she also is in that same mode and she has gone through tons and tons of stuff in her life that personal life that she’s had to really, I guess fight her way through right? So she had multiple Wonder Woman mug so when I was telling her she handed me a Wonder Woman mug. I happen to have these bracelets on so I was telling her the story about it.

She gave me this wonderful she gave me the mug to take home and it and at the time that was serving me right I’m I can do this. Like I felt strong. I felt empowered. I can do this. And then one day, I guess it was about a year ago, maybe a little more, maybe a year and a half ago, I was making myself tea in the morning and I had the Wonder Woman mug in my hand and I was exhausted. I had a to do list 45 miles long.

None of it was getting done on time. I was late to 5000 different things. I felt like I was being pulled in 100 different directions. And I looked at that mug and I was like, Oh, my gosh, I am so tired of fighting my way through life in my business.

And I looked over at my shelf and I had a mug that says I want to be a mermaid. And I put the Wonder Woman mug back and I grabbed the mermaid mug and I said I am so tired of fighting through bank business.

Time for me to start swimming. I want to be a mermaid. I don’t want to have to fight every step of the way. So that mermaid mug has been kind of like my anthem. Ever since then I want to be a mermaid I want to swim and enjoy and and just feel empowered. I want to feel empowered, but I I was kind of tired of all the fighting and feeling like I needed to fight. Right.

So then I met a woman that I had lunch with a woman a couple months ago, maybe six months ago. And she was extraordinarily successful in the corporate world, and was building a mentorship program for women. And we were chatting, and she showed me her website. And one of the things she had in her website was about, you know, pulling from your superhuman powers, and I had like, a visceral reaction to it.

She was like, What the heck, I was like, honestly, I hate this. And she’s like, What do you mean? I said, Why can’t we just be human and be successful? why don’t why are women expected to be superhuman? Why can’t women just be human and be successful?

And it stopped her in her tracks too, I think because as women were like, you know, you guys can remember that like, you know, the am woman hear me roar. I can do anything I can, you know, bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan and all that stuff. And it’s exhausting, right? But we’re still conditioned to being superhuman.

So I have intentionally been building what I’m now calling my mermaid Empire Ever since then, because I don’t want to fight through 2020 to keep to be successful, I want to enjoy it. I want to enjoy the journey. I want to flow through the journey with ease. And when I build ease with intention into my business, the most amazing things happen, the most amazing clients come into my life. The people that that you know, when you’re, when you’re fighting through things, sometimes you take clients that you know, we’re not perfect clients, but you just need the money to take them.

But when you set the intention that you’re doing this with ease, I can’t even tell you how amazing it is when the perfect clients start to come your way. Because you’re no longer fighting and you’re no longer fighting it. You’re just kind of opening your mind and your world and the universe, whatever however you believe it to be for the perfect people to step in.

So here’s what my mermaid Empire looks like for 2020. And by the way, this episode 100 is coming out, I believe it is my calendar. And December 2, December 6, is my birthday. So I feel like this hundredth episode is like a birthday present to myself, and the setting the intention for the upcoming year. I can’t even say the words, but it’s a big year for me. The December 6 2020 birthday is a is a big year for me. So I have big plans. If I have to turn that age in 2020 I’m going to be doing it with, you know, with with having the best year of my life.

So I’ve got big plans for 2020. So let me tell you a little bit of what that looks like for me and then we’ll talk about how we can incorporate this into your business.

So right now I love this podcast and I am in a great great move with it with my team and with you know, just getting it produced and I love the content. We’re getting great feedback on it. It’s growing pretty quickly now. And so grateful for that. So the podcast is going to continue. And I want to do more speaking I want to get in front of more women audiences.

So if you have a woman audience reach out to me at info at Karen Yankovich. calm. I do a lot of speaking now. But but for me for 2020, the podcast and my speaking line of business, right, because we hopefully you have multiple income streams. So the speaking is an income stream for me. That’s the front end of my business.

And that’s the visibility that I built. Right. I promote my podcast I promote myself as a speaker, when I’m standing in front of a room with 100 or 500 people with a microphone in my hand, that’s more visibility for me.

So I absolutely teach visibility and you two should have a visibility plan and visibility by itself, right? It doesn’t pay the mortgage.

So beyond that, we’ve got you know, you’ve got to get people onto your email list and build your email. Listen for us right now, not sure exactly what this is going to look like yet. But I do know that a big part of that is going to be the LinkedIn profile challenge that we did in October of 20 of 2019. It was hugely successful. I got such great feedback from it.

We’re going to do it again in January. So January 2020. And I don’t know if we’ll do it again. After that, I’m sure we will. So depending on when you’re listening to this, go to LinkedIn profile challenge. com, either the registration will be open for the challenge, it’s completely free, or you can get on the waitlist, either.

Either way, if you go to LinkedInprofilechallenge.com and get on the waitlist, this is completely free. There’s no obligation, but it was hugely successful. We had people got such great results. I’ve so many people ask me what we’re going to do it again that we’re doing it pretty quickly after the first one. Because I think that I learned a few things about how we delivered it, I want to do it better. I have a low end LinkedIn profile course and a little bit of a higher end LinkedIn strategy course.

So those are the things that we’re going to also be marketing in 2020. But that’s it. I’m not looking to market a million different things.

One of the other things I walked away from or I’m walking away from is my membership course the triple your biz club. I love it. I love the people in it, but it just didn’t. It wasn’t in my mermaid Empire Plan, it was a little bit more of a struggle. I think that people there got had success of it, but it was a little too. There was too much. We were just trying to do too many things.

So what we’re going to be doing in 2020 is putting a new membership out there, but it’s going to be on the other side of the LinkedIn strategy course. So if you want to get in my membership, if you want ongoing support from me around LinkedIn, so that you’ve got accountability that you’re getting the work done, you’ve got to have gone through my course first. And that was a hard decision to make because obviously, putting it on the front end of my course I can open it up to the world. Putting on the back end of my course I can only market it then to the few people that have taken my course.

Right. But again, mermaid empires, it feels right. And the more I stay true to that the more successful my businesses. So you’ll hear more about that in in the beginning of 2020. But again, you’re only eligible for that if you’ve taken my course.

We started running masterminds in 2019. And they have also been very successful. So we’re going to continue to run masterminds in 2020. And they’re small masterminds. They’re five people, they only last for three months. And I’m going to still continue to do a small number of one on one clients, because I love that.

I love meeting with people for a day and spending a day with them. So we’re going to continue that as well. So that is what my mermaid Empire looks like for 2020. The podcast and speaking you’ll see a lot about the LinkedIn profile challenge will be marketing a few times during the year, presumably let’s see how it goes in January.

And then maybe there’ll be some other LinkedIn freebies that will offer over the course of the year. And then we’re staying true to the course with just the two digital programs. And the membership on the other side of the strategy course, the masterminds and the number of one on one clients.

Now, that sounds like a lot, right? I can’t even tell you how much I stripped out of my business to get down to that.

Okay. But what this does is it allows me to say really, really focused, okay?

It’s allowed me to grow my team in a way that helps me and my clients feel really supported. And here’s the thing, here’s the best part of this, my clients, whether you’re in my digital programs, or my free LinkedIn profile challenge, or a one on one client, or mastermind client, you’re getting the best of me, because instead of spreading myself thin, with teaching social media in general and trying to keep on top of what the strategies are for Twitter, and Instagram, whatever, I could spend more time testing and tweaking and monitoring LinkedIn strategy, so that I can dive deeper and help you have more success with that. I can make all the mistakes right, I can do all the work, and then I can just share the room. results and the benefits of that with you. So to me, that is what my mermaid Empire looks like for 2020.

And I cannot tell you how excited I am about it. I feel really good about it I for the first time and a lot of years, I’m able to take more time off in my business and I’ve been able to take and I’m loving it.

So are you feeling that can you understand, can you feel the difference in pushing to get your business and, and fight chasing all the shiny objects and and never really feeling like you’re always feeling like you’re catching up versus just feeling like things are happening with ease, like does not feel amazing?

Are you feeling that? Are you ready to be human and successful in 2020? Instead of feeling like you have to be superhuman?

Okay, I’m like, I’m not totally sure that mermaids are human, just to be clear, but at least they’re not known to have to fight their way to success. Okay. So we’re going to be we’re going to pretend that they’re human for now. And we’re going to just feel like we’re swimming through life in our business like mermaids do. Imagine the difference that this could make in your life.

I’ve made time this I mean, I’ll tell you a few things that have happened in my personal life this year, as my business has grown, as I’ve stayed more focused, and, and pulled things out to create a business with ease, I’ve made I know, these sounds might sound a little like little things too, but they are huge things to me. I’ve made time this year to meditate twice a day.

I mean, you can hear how fast I talk, my brain goes as fast as my mouth, my brain does not stop. And I have struggled with meditating forever, because I know that it helps me. But it was really it’s really hard. It’s always been really difficult for me to stay, to do it and to to be consistent with it. But I found a technique that works for me, so that not only am I meditating once a day, I am meditating twice a day, because I know that if I stop in the three o’clock range or the two three o’clock range, and just spend 15 minutes, not an hour, but 15 minutes, clearing my mind.

And just like letting everything go for 15 minutes, I come back for the next couple hours of the day, so much more productive, that I’m generally stopping work around four or five o’clock, which is unheard of for me also, I mean, I I am a morning person like you are more likely to see me working in the morning than at eight o’clock at night. But let me tell you lots of NFS I mean, I’m not ever working at eight o’clock at night. Of course that happens on occasion.

But generally, I am now keeping to pretty normal work hours and taking time off during the week which is amazing. I’m also being consistent with a morning routine. Because Because I’m a morning person I wake up and my brain is immediately on 100 miles an hour.

All the things I need to do well, I you know, I can go on and on about my morning routine, but basically just know that it supports my self care not just my business, but I have incorporated business stuff into it because It is when my brain is most on fire. And I want to make sure that my business gets some of that right not just my, just my personal, you know, my personal life or my self care.

So I’ve incorporated a morning routine that allows me to feel like I’m doing some self care and getting an A power hour in my business and then back to some count, self care. And then by nine o’clock, I’m at my desk and I’m, I’m raring to go for the day.

What has happened with these little things that have changed in my life is that so many things are better in my life and in my business. So we’re going to talk a little bit about how we can you can start to incorporate a mermaid Empire into your life in the upcoming year. So we have some tasks for you here and I’m going to walk you through a few things that I would love to see you do. And I am here to support you with this.

Okay, but the first thing I want you to do is take some time, maybe put a half hour on your calendar. block everything out. I’m a fan of a kitchen timer. You’ve heard that before. If the kitchen timer is ticking, nothing else gets done half an hour and make a list of everything you market in your business free and paid. Okay, free and paid.

Do you have a free offer? Do you have a podcast? What are you marketing in your business? And then I want you to look at those things and feel like, does it flow? Right? Does it feel like ease? Or does it stress you out to even look at it? Right?

Like I can tell you like for me, one of the things I mentioned earlier is my masterminds and I have to tell you, my business coach, people that I’m in, I’m in masterminds with they’re all like, why are you selling three month masterminds? You have to fill them continually. Why don’t you sell a year long mastermind. And you know what, because this is what feels right to me.

A year long mastermind stresses me out because if if I have a three month mastermind I know I could make it short and powerful and results. And I can teach people exactly how to replicated. I’m not going anywhere. If they want to work with me when the mastermind ends, they still can write, but it to me that feels like ease and filling a year long mastermind feels like stress. Okay?

So even though I can’t even tell you how many people are telling me, you know, you should be doing a longer mastermind right now. I don’t like it. I don’t feel it. It doesn’t feel like it’s right for my business. I feel like that I just don’t feel it. So that’s what I want you to look at when you make this list of everything you market for your business. Do you love all the things on there? Okay.

Alright, and maybe if maybe what you want to do as you’re making this list of everything you are marketing in your business. Now, you might also want to add to that list, things you want to you’re looking to bring into your business in the upcoming 12 months.

Okay, so that list, if you’re anything like many of the clients I work with that list is probably going to be long. Because we there’s a lot of things we want to do, right? There’s a lot of things we want to do. And I love the passion around the people that come into my life. But I also know that, you know, if you if you are doing, you know, there’s the there’s what you’re doing right now to pay the bills, and then maybe that maybe that you’re not ready to give that up yet.

But there’s a few other things you’re doing. And maybe you’ve got three other things you want to do. And maybe they’re not all that related. And you know how I know this because we read your LinkedIn profiles.

And it’s the number one question that I get asked is okay, I do this and I do this. I’m an accountant by day and I’m a Reiki Master by night. How do I infuse them? And we work on that, right?

We work on that with you. And by the way, you know, maybe at the same time, you want to be a business coach, right? So I get it, I get it. You are a good company. If you’re thinking about this right now, right now, for the first step in this process, just write it all down.

Because what I want you to do in the second step of this process is to grab A Google Sheet or Excel document or something simple, and I don’t want this to be geeky and techie doesn’t have to have formulas in it. But if you’re like me and you like that stuff, you can create some formulas create a very basic business plan for for the upcoming 12 months based on those services.

So what does that mean?

It means that if you’re telling me Okay, I want to build I want to get more coaching clients, then I want to know how many of those Do you want to get? How many of those Do you want to get in January in February and March and April, etc, etc. And what is the revenue stream that brings into your business? Just generally, okay, really generally. And then list that for every single thing you listen to number one, okay? I mean, right now, we’re just doing a brain dump. Okay? And it’s probably going to, it’s probably going to not feel like your mermaid Empire.

But what you need to be looking at this, you have to look at it with your with your pricing in mind. Are there things on this list that you’ve created that you’ve, you’ve built out not just the services, but the revenue associated with the services. And if you have if your overhead is significant, and I don’t mean overhead, like I have a VA, and you know I have, I have to pay for ontraport, I’m talking about you sell $100 product that costs you $50 to produce, okay, so really, then we want to do we want to write that hundred dollars, we want to know that that’s really a $50 top line, right?

So it’s $100 top line, but it’s a $50. It’s not even a $50 bottom line, it’s a $50 mid line after that you have all the other expenses. But if you have a very fixed costs associated with a particular product, incorporate that but very simple.

Don’t worry about all the other stuff like that your your CRM and your zoom account and all that other stuff. Don’t worry about that stuff. For now. Just if there’s a very specific cost associated with a particular product, just note that because I want to make sure that you know, we’re at least clear where like generally how much profit we can generate And then look at the pricing associated with these things. Do you feel like it’s abundantly financially supporting you? Or do you need to adjust your pricing? Do you need to cut back? Do you need to hire somebody? Right? Do you love everything on that list? Or is there something that you have to let go? I don’t care how much money is making you I’m telling you, you know, get seen bring hurt brought in a lot of money.

We let it go because it just wasn’t right. Okay. Is there more than one thing you have to let go? And this is on paper right now. I’m not saying you have to call up and fire people today. I’m saying on paper. Are there things you want to let go? Are there more than one things that you think that you want to let go?

Maybe you start looking now at the things you’ve always wanted to do and we’d love to add this year, right? So add those in and maybe add some preliminary pricing associated with those things. Okay. Is there a demographic you want it that you love to focus on? Is there a demographic you want to walk away from? Maybe you’ve been supporting some demographic, but you stay up at night worried about them, and they’re not really worrying about themselves enough.

And you’re, maybe you need to walk away from them so that you can build the ease in so that you can more abundantly support to hear that so that did you remember Episode 98, so that you can more abundantly support the people that you will love to support? Right? I love to support people on LinkedIn, and I can more abundantly support them if I don’t have to worry about Instagram algorithms, right and teaching people about that. And so that’s what I want you to think about as you’re creating this. I don’t want it to seem I don’t want it to be complicated.

Just get it out of your head and get it onto a piece of paper or a Google Sheet. So that you can have some sense of of what you’re looking at. Because if you’re not look, if you don’t know what you’re looking at, you are not Going to be able to know what has to happen for that to be feel like you can accomplish it with ease.

The next thing I want you to do is now that you’ve done that, and you’ve on paper, you’ve made some adjustments, maybe you’ve increased some pricing, maybe you’ve reduced some pricing, maybe you maybe you’re redlining, some services, because you just say I cannot do this for another year, right? And then maybe you do for three more months, right? This is not, you know, just start this January 1, right? This is just, this is ease.

Remember, this is ease.

So now look at that list again and see how it applies to your life. does it allow you to get a house cleaner so you can spend time with your friends and families on the weekends instead of doing laundry? Right? does it allow you to travel if that’s what you want? What is it in your life that you want your business to support. And then look at that plan that you’ve created. And see if it feels like you’ve it will allow you to have the life that you’re dreaming of.

And I want you to dream big here.

Okay, I want you to dream big here. This is the place for dreaming big, and building your mermaid Empire, and all of the other things that that have to happen to make all that happen. We’re not worried about that. Now, we’re just laying it out.

Okay, one of the other things, you know, when I, when I work with people with LinkedIn marketing, one of the first things we have them do is identify what their win looks like.

And a lot of times they come to me and say, I want to get 530 $500 clients by this by February 15. And I say, Okay, well, how about if we just focus on getting 130 $500 client, because if I can teach you how to get that 130 $500 client, you now know how to get the other four, right.

So that’s what I mean by with ease. I want you to build out the plan that feels believably amazing. That is going to give you the life and the business of your dreams, without worrying about how you’re going to get there.

Okay, because you know how they talk about, you know, how do you eat an elephant one bite at a time, even if it feels like an elephant right now. Just try to shift your mindset to that mermaid Empire mindset and know that if you learn how to get one of these things, then you can start to implement that strategy with ease to get some of the other things on that business plan so that you can ease through the upcoming 12 months, like a mermaid with flow and not having to fight your way through it like Wonder Woman. Does that make sense?

So let me just recap this a second. So, first thing I want you to do is make a list of everything you market in your business free and paid. Okay? And then add to that list. Other things you’ve been always wanting to market but you haven’t done yet because, you know, 24 hours in the day.

The next thing I want you to do is very creative, very basic business plan for the upcoming 12 months based on those services. Put some dollars associated with them. Put some quantities if I can do you know, don’t say I want I need if I oh my gosh, it would be amazing to get 10 $10,000 clients next month. Are there enough hours in the day for that? Because that surely doesn’t feel like a mermaid Empire. To me that sounds like a lot of friggin stress, right? So don’t don’t give me Don’t put numbers that when I say Dream Big I don’t want you to be to be putting yourself to the point we have to work 20 hours a day, I want you to put yourself in a place where you can you can abundantly support that business that will abundantly support you financially make sense. So create a very basic business plan that does that.

And then look at that list again, and see how it applies to your life. You know, are you creating services that allow you to be home with your kids at three o’clock if that’s what you want to do? are you creating services that allow you to travel and spend a month in Italy if that’s what you want to do? If that’s your case, you certainly don’t want to create a service that requires you to go physically to your flying in New York City once a week, right, that’s not going to work.

So see how this applies to your life. I’m always here to support you beyond this podcast and I had about, oh my gosh, 10 or 20 different ideas, this time for this podcast on what I could give you to supplement the work that you’ll be doing on this podcast. And what I decided on was something to help you dream bigger, because I know that Listen, you know, I don’t have a magic wand. There’s some work that’s associated with this, you’ve got to do some work.

But I do know that if you put your focus on the things that you love, and the work that you love, and the people that you love to support that and if you dream bigger around those things, that is the first step to building your mermaid Empire.

So what I’ve got is a download for you that I’ve done in my group programs. I might have even shared it here on this podcast before, but we’ve updated it and we’re going to share it again. And what it basically is is a download worksheet. That helps you list 100 things that you want to be do or have in the next 12 months that you’d love to acquire with ease mermaid style.

Okay, so download this worksheet print it, keep it with you. It’s not meant to do in a day, it’s meant to be with you for the next month or more so that you can add to it when something comes to mind. Remember, this is easy, not stressed to complete this, you can go to Karen Yankovich comm slash 100 download, to grab this.

I want you to have the life and the business of your dreams in 2020 and beyond. I want you to know that you can have it and not be superhuman to achieve it and you can be human and still and and do this mermaid style and still have an amazing life and an amazing business and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

That’s why I do this podcast so you’re going to hear a lot about having a mermaid and Fire in the upcoming months and year. So fun. Is that not fun? I love it. And I hope that you do too. And I can’t wait to share all my amazing fun ideas around this as soon as I, you know, can grab them and bring them in a little bit.

Before you go though, can you help me out? Can you take a quick screenshot of this episode on your phone, and share that on social media and tell the world that you’re ready for your mermaid Empire, you can use the hashtag mermaid empires, you can use the hashtag good girls get rich. tag me I’m at Karen Yankovich. And you know that I’m going to share that with my audience to help us both get more visibility. And that is how we start to support each other, to lift each other up supportively and abundantly and start to build our mermaid empires together.

The bottom line is I want this to be simple and have this done with ease. So let’s create our simple mermaid empires together. I’ll see you back here next week. As we move into the next 100 episodes of the good girls get rich podcast.

About the Episode:

This episode was FULL of heartfelt advice from Megan and I’m so glad you all were able to hear her story! I love everything that Megan stands for and that’s all about helping women own their passions and have them build a life surrounding just that.

Now in order to make your passion into a successful business, we need to first start with these few things:

First, identify your passion!

This is easier said than done! Many times women don’t even see that what they’re good at is well… special! You may think to yourself that you are good at organizing, cooking, finances, etc. but also may have the mindset that everyone else is good at this too.

Chances are… they’re not and they need people like you to help them! The first thing that comes with making your passion into a successful business is to find out what that passion is and truly stand by it!

Having trouble doing this? Megan provided valuable insight on how to figure out your passion and she mentioned to ask yourself these 3 questions…

  1. What do I love to do that I can’t help but do?
  2. What do I do naturally / automatically?
  3. What do people tell me I’m really good at?

Answer these 3 questions and you’ll be in your way to finding your passion!

The second thing you need to do is just get started!

You don’t have to have it all right from the start, you just have to know what your passion is. And once you know that, everything will naturally fall into place.

After you’ve made the decision to start your business based off your passion, that’s when you get out there, learn what your clients want and you build and grow your business from there. An easy place to start with this and to make your passion into a successful business, is to simply think “what can I do right now to bring in money?” just so you can have that blanket.

Do that, and go  from there!

Once you actually have something in place, be mindful of the fact that not everything is going to be a straight line. The more experience and time you have into your business that’s when you can adjust and tweak it to perfection. Just know, you don’t have to have all the answers and the exact business plan in place before getting started!

The last thing to do in order to make your passion into a successful business is to wake up and OWN what you’re good at!

While some people tend to make excuses for why they are, where they are, you need to admit one thing to yourself…

You are where you are because of your own decisions, and that is great!

When you take responsibility for your past actions and for the reason you are in your current situation, you can figure out exactly what reality it is that you want and you can create it. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing either! If you’re in a great place right now but want to make it better, own that as well! Self-awareness is key in this situation.

Owning your actions and owning what you’re good at will keep you from feelings of unworthiness or feeling like you’re not “good enough” or “smart enough” to run your own business as well. Just remember…

You don’t have to be the best in the industry, you just have to be better than the people you serve

BONUS! Megan went into detail as well at (33:06) on her signature passion belief method and broke it out to us like this…

The passion belief method

  1. Recognize self-sabotaging beliefs
  2. Let go of those limiting beliefs
  3. Clarify your passion
  4. Identify your priorities and values
  5. Get ready to adopt your new passion beliefs

Feel free to take Megan’s Passion Belief Method Assessment in order to figure out exactly what your game plan should be on making your passion into a successful business.

Can you guys tell? Just remember why I wanted to have Megan on the show. Exactly. We love talking about here on good girls get rich. Megan, thank you so much for being here.

Megan Tull  3:07

Hey, Karen Long time no as here, I guess. Yeah, well, since we have connected so I’m excited to be part of this.

Karen Yankovich  3:18

Me too. I’m so glad you’re here. Megan and I met a few years ago at a conference that you are an organization that you were part of, which was so fun Texas women in business, and it was a great event. And it was great to meet you. And then at the time you were going on your book, launch your book tour. So I’d love to hear about that. Tell us a little bit about your book and tell it like let’s take a step back. Because you know, your bio is what we put out there. But tell us a little bit about your journey because I know that you’ve had a long journey. So maybe start you know, kind of more at the beginning like what prompted you to become an entrepreneur and want to help other women earn their worth in business?

Megan Tull  3:57

Sure. Yeah. I’d love to share that. So I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart. In fact, I had my first business as a professional makeup artist at 18. And you know, went on to have a skincare business from there and, and it goes on and on.

But what really kind of changed things for me at the time I was working as a trainer manager for international skincare company, my my one corporate job that I had, and I traveled a ton for, for the company really loved what I did. But after I tragically lost my husband and the father, my son, my high school sweetheart, we met when I was 15. I lost him tragically to alcohol. When I was 30. My whole world turned upside down there I was, you know, a widow, single mom. And you know, I was just really I’m obviously just in this dark cloud.

But after I thought about it, I decided I did not want to be a victim, Karen, I’ve really made a promise to myself that I wanted to make the most of my life and make my two and a half year old son Cameron my number one priority. So I decided to up and quit my corporate job. And I wanted to have more flexibility in my schedule. And so I followed my entrepreneurial passion again, and this time, it was opening a business from home.

So I jumped in with both feet, learning everything I needed to to be successful at this new venture. I had to learn online marketing, and this was like 18 years ago. So that was completely foreign to me. I was really good at marketing face to face. In fact, I taught sales and marketing. But the whole online game was a whole different story.

So I struggled for six months, Karen made zero dollars. But my why was so big, I was determined to make it work. So I got the help that I needed. And within the next six months, I was able to triple my income. And wow, okay, there’s something to this, this entrepreneurial thing. So that’s when I had a lot of individuals come to me asking me what I was doing to be so successful. They asked if I can help them with their business, and I’d always been a trainer and coach at heart. So I’m like, sure, I’ve set up some systems and processes I can probably teach you and teach you and help you with.

So that’s when my coaching consulting started way back when. And so it really has evolved and developed since then. And granted, you know, there were a lot of ups and downs and one of the biggest parts. I would say the biggest lessons that I’ve learned was when I felt like Everything was such a struggle. I felt like I was focusing on all the things I needed to do, kind of operating from that, that space of fear and scarcity and lack. And I kept hitting a wall and just it felt so difficult.

And after doing that, for so many years of a, something’s got to give, I really hit kind of a rock bottom. And I was in a bad relationship, things were on sale for the business. So it really forced me Karen to take a look at what I truly wanted my life and start getting clear on my purpose. And that’s when everything kind of shifted for me. And I was able to get in alignment with my passion and my purpose and what my gifts were How can I use my gifts in the most impactful way. And so then moving forward. With this new mindset and competence, I was able to start attracting my ideal clients with ease and grace and You know, tap into that flow and abundance.

And now I’m super excited that I get to assist other female entrepreneurs and really getting connected and aligned to their passion and their purpose and really start tapping into that flow and abundance that was there waiting for them and really turning their passion into a highly profitable business that they love. So since then, I’ve gotten married I have two more kids. So we have a family a blended family of five and things are awesome I’m super blessed and you know, I believe I’m living proof that with a lot of faith and persistence and getting out of my own way getting clear on my purpose in you know, dreams really can come true. Just got to keep at it and trust in the process.

Karen Yankovich  8:53

Well, you know, I love so many things about that. But one of the things that I love is getting clear on your purpose, right? We see so many things People that are doing what they’re really good at, right? Maybe you’re really good at it, maybe you’re making good money at it. But if it’s not feeding your soul, and I know that that might, you know, I know I believe that with every fiber of my body, I know you do, too. But sometimes when you said to other like, you know what, I gotta pay a mortgage, you know, like feeding my soul that’s priority, paying the mortgage is the priority. But I find that when you can, and that’s why I do this podcast, right? When you can find what you’re good at, and then build your business and your life from that place. And that feeds your soul and that is your purpose, then it it’s a faster path to success.

Megan Tull  9:41

Totally and in what happens, Karen is, we don’t trust often that we have everything that we need to be successful or that our gifts are good enough or valuable enough so often, and I was stuck in this pattern for a while and that’s why I struggled. You know, we’ll compare ourselves to other people like we What is selling so doing to be so successful, I should do what they’re doing. And you know, you try to emulate what they’re doing, but maybe it’s goes against your natural way or it’s not fun for you, but you know, you kind of force and push it to happen. And you can get results that way. Granted I did for years and years, but it’s not sustainable, and it’s exhausting, and you’re not going to be fulfilled in your work and you’re not going to be able to use your gifts in the most impactful way.

Karen Yankovich  10:28

Yeah. So I want to take you back though, to that space where you were when you left your corporate job to go out on your own. That’s brave. That’s brave. That’s a courage how Where did you how did you find the courage? Especially as now a single mom right sole responsibility for you and your your child? You know, can you tell us a little bit about where you found the courage to do that?

Megan Tull  10:53

Wow. So honestly, everybody around me thought I was completely nuts. Like,

Karen Yankovich  10:58

yeah, I mean, that’s We’ll all be we all tell we leave our big fat jobs to go.

Megan Tull  11:05

How could you give up that paycheck and your health insurance? And I was actually left with a bunch of bills when my husband passed away. So there was all of that right. But it was so interesting here and I didn’t think twice about it like in my heart of hearts, I knew that this was the right decision. It actually took going back into work, my way of dealing with the loss of my husband was throwing myself into work and in, you know, just working, just kind of putting the blinders on.

And I remember a week after the funeral, I was doing a training presentation for over 100 people, but I had to drive constantly or fly or travel and it started getting to me where I was I felt so guilty, leaving my son so I would like drive for hours, do a training and then drive four hours back just to tuck them in at night and not like okay, this is not sustainable and this is not how I want to live my life.

So I made a decision at that point that I was going to make him my priority and quit my job and it was it was easy actually to do because I knew it was the right decision. And I was like to point out that was my why my why was so much greater than the fear that I was willing to do whatever it took to make it work. So I believe we all have a powerful why that drives us and motivates us. And that’s what kind of kept me going during that six months. In my business where I made zero dollars.

I actually didn’t I wasn’t scared I wasn’t freaking out because I just knew that I was going to figure it out because my why was so powerful. And I think if everyone could get connected with their Why, why they want to be successful, why they want to make the money has to be bigger than the money has to be bigger than you Because that’s what’s going to keep you going. Because let’s be honest here and being an entrepreneur is not easy, right?

Karen Yankovich  13:07

Oh gosh, no right like that. You hear people say like, I left my 40 hour week job for an 80 hour week business, you know, because I didn’t want to work 40 hours a week. So, and I’m certainly not advocating that nor do I do that, but it is it is, you know, especially in the beginning, you got to do what you got to do to, to make it work. But one of the things that I love about my business and and about entrepreneurism in general, which is a message that I hope you guys are listening to, they’re listening to this is it.

If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t mean it’s never going to work. It just means you haven’t found the right combination of things, right, which is what it sounds like you did, like you can just tweak it until you have the right combination. And sometimes it’s pricing sometimes it’s your messaging, sometimes it’s the product, right but it is it is always doable. It’s just a matter of having the confidence to stick with it until you find the sweet spot of your, of your products and your services and your passion.

Megan Tull  14:09

Absolutely. And so many times we want to be perfectionist and get everything set up, I got to have the perfect website, and then I got to create my whole program or whatever it is. But the thing is, you really just have to start taking action towards it. I always look at it like what can you do right now to start making money, start taking those action steps, then, you know, you can invest back into your business for the website and some of the other bigger expenditures.

But the thing is, you don’t have to get it right. You just have to get it going and then you’re going to perfect and tweak along the way. So if you ever think that you’re going to be able to just come up with an idea and then create the perfect business plan and everything’s gonna work out hunky dory, you know, that’s really, I mean, I guess right? But that’s not how it works, you have to get out there, you have to start learning about your, your clients and what they want. And then you’re going to start building your confidence along the way, right? And then you can start increasing your prices. So it all kind of just comes together. And it’s really part of the process. And you just have to embrace that from the get go and enjoy the journey. Right?

Karen Yankovich  15:22

Yeah, I’m sending you like a high five across the country for that, because I totally, I totally 100% agree with that. And I have a, I have a service. It’s one of my highest priced services, and it is probably the easiest service for me to sell. And it is not on my website. It’s a PDF that I created, you know, and, and because it’s so powerful for me to tell my clients that that it may never be on my website because of that, because, you know, if I’m talking to people, I think it’s a good fit. I’ll like I’ll say, let me tell you about this. And I’m, I’m saying this because, you know, you’re right.

Because what happens sometimes is we spend all this time we’ve got to figure it out, what is it? You know, what are our programs, what are our courses, like all this stuff. And then once you start delivering it, you realize it all has to change. Because there’s no way until you start delivering this stuff that you could possibly anticipate how it’s going to land with every single person and what you’re going to need to ship. So you’re going to change it anyway, you 100% are going to change it anyway. So why not just get it going, and then change it and you know, get it going, if you feel more comfortable, get it going as a pilot, you know, get it going as a pilot so that you if you feel more comfortable saying as a pilot, then get it going is that because you can be you can be making money and that is the exact message I teach around LinkedIn, which is you know, so many people are saying they want to build a program because leveraged income and of course, who doesn’t want leveraged income making money while you’re, you know, in your sleep or whatever that whatever that is that people say and of course We love that.

But that costs a lot of money, right? You need to be getting the business and you need to be building your sustainable base of income. And that comes most often from strategy work or from one on one work or consulting work or, you know, from the higher ticket items, which are easier to sell than you think. Because people want fast results, they want access to you. And in the beginning, you have, you can give them access to you.

Megan Tull  17:28

Yeah, and that’s how you’re going to hone your craft and skills. That’s how you’re going to perfect your process or develop your signature process. And you need to do that before you can think about creating like an online program, for example, if you want to leverage your time to reach more people, but it’s all a process, right? So you have to consider where you are and make sure you’re focusing on the right things at the right time for the stage of business that you’re in. That’s where a lot of entrepreneurs struggle because there’s so much There are so many shiny red objects, oh, there’s this marketing method I should be doing because so and so’s doing it. And then they’re not really focusing on the things that are really going to be important for them to focus on and actually allow them to produce an income.

Karen Yankovich  18:18

Right? Well, and you know, here’s the thing, too, I think that when you, when you do it, the way you’re describing it, you also get the opportunity to see if, if you are passionate about delivering it the way you think you’re going to be.

Because the last thing you want to be is stuck delivering something that isn’t you aren’t as excited to do in reality is not as much fun. It’s not as much it’s not as impactful or, or, you know, or it’s not really delivering the kind of service you want to deliver. But you’re committed to it because you went you know, you you’ve already laid it all out the way it’s supposed to be. So this way you can kind of, you know, I actually do a like we do some we do a lot of corporate work and I’ve started to implement like a, like a strategy fee to come out and develop a strategy for the customer. And then what we do is, you know, let’s say it’s LinkedIn strategy, then what we do is if if we, when we lay out the strategy, we lay out what the cost would be for us to help them implement the strategy. And then we’ll apply the fee for the strategy session to the full fee.

And people like, Oh, that’s a great idea. It’s simple for the customer. And I’m like, yeah, and I can decide if I don’t if I want to work with these people or not, you know, I’m not committed to a six month program with somebody that might not be a good fit for me, you know, after I deliver the strategy that they own, and that is 100% of product, right? I can hand it to them and say, you know, all right, here’s what you need to do. And I can help you find somebody to implement it. I get to decide if I want to continue to work with them or not. If I’m passionate about working with them, because you know, it is horrible. When you bring somebody one on one, you have a six month commitment and you know, and you know, it’s not a good fit, and it happens. It happens a lot.

Megan Tull  20:00

Yeah, and most often Oh, I would bet you’d agree with me Karen you know, like there’s red flags in the beginning. But really we move forward anyway it’s because we’re moving forward out of fear scarcity Oh, gotta gotta can’t turn down the money got to pay the bills right over. And yeah, but it’s such a great place to be in when you make the decision that you are only going to work with your I call them ideal star clients. And, yeah, and if they don’t, if they’re not in alignment with who you’re looking to work with. Yeah, it’s okay to say no, or recommend someone else that can can help them.

Karen Yankovich  20:37

Yeah. So in your book, The passion belief method, you say many people are posting on autopilot with no passionate connection to what they’re doing. Is that what you’re talking about here?

Megan Tull  20:49

Yes, really. It’s, I think so many people. They settle You know, they’re just They get caught up in, you know, just following through on certain choices that they made in their life. Right. And, you know, I think it’s really important to realize that it’s like, okay, you are where you are today because of your own choices. And that whole taking responsibility for where you are is huge. Now, a lot of times we want to blame everyone around us or circumstances or oh, you know, my parents made me go to college for this career path.

And so there’s a lot of times that we want to blame but really you are where you are because your own decisions, but unfortunately, a lot of people get comfortable being uncomfortable, but I’m going to challenge you to wake up and see where you are, and to establish if you’re where you want to be, and then to take responsibility knowing that you are where you are. Because you’re on choices and decisions, but then it’s so exciting to know that you are also responsible for your future. So you and only you can dictate your your future and what your, your career your life looks like moving forward. So, you know, the clients that I get to work with. And, you know, that really get it and they’re ready.

They know that they get to create a new reality for themselves. And they get to tap into their unique passion and their gifts and their God given talents, and use those gifts in a way to be of service to others. And then as a result of that, they’re really making a difference in the world. So it’s a choice. It really is. You can stay stuck, stuck and you can, you know, create excuses, but really we have the power to accept where we are Make a decision decision to change it if if we’re not where we want to be.

Karen Yankovich  23:05

I love that. I love that. And you know, often often I find that often, when people are passionate about something, or just not truly good at something, they don’t even see that as something that’s a valuable business. And they they don’t see value to it right. So I can think of a I can think of a friend of mine who you know, I mean, listen, you’re an entrepreneur, so maybe you can relate to this, but you have to be really good cook. I remember saying to her some time one time oh my gosh, like I just want you to cook for me. Just Oh, that’s ridiculous. You’re a good cook, you can cook for yourself. I’m like, I know I’m a good cook, and I know I can cook for myself.

But if you were knocking on my door and handing me your you know, eggplant parmesan thing, I mean, this was years ago, and and we you know, it’s time I think we we went to Weight Watchers at one point or whatever, and I’m like, I just want you to cook me and she I was literally willing to pay her to do it. And she would Even like she couldn’t even hear it. She couldn’t even hear it. And I would have if she had said, Yes, I would have done in a minute, but she couldn’t even hear it. Because in her mind, that’s ridiculous. You know, if you can do it, why aren’t you doing it? So what’s your advice to people when they when they start have that mindset?

Megan Tull  24:17

And so yeah, I mean, if they’re stuck, and not really understanding what they’re passionate about, or you know, if they thought, okay, if I were to start a business, where would I even start? Some people I think, especially women, like women are givers. And we often put our dreams and goals and aspirations on the backburner to be able to, you know, raise our family and put our family first, or put everybody else first, right. So our passion lies dormant within us.

So I believe it’s pretty rare. I’ve found found some people that really struggle with identifying what they’re passionate about, but you know, really, there’s three simple questions you can ask your Self Karen The first one is what do I love to do that I can’t help it do. And the second question is, what do what do I do naturally or automatically? And then the third question is, what do people tell me I’m really good at and that’s exactly what you told your friend. So if you can answer those questions, typically the answer is is pretty similar. But again, like you said, often we’re so close to our gifts and talents, and they come so naturally and easily we don’t think that is anything special. We think everybody could do this. Right? Right. That’s where sometimes it takes somebody outside to point out oh my gosh, Karen, you’re really good at that. You should, you know, consider doing that more or even start a business

Karen Yankovich  25:51

Or even today like imagine if this is what your business was, imagine if this is how you earned your living doing this thing you love to do.

Megan Tull  25:58

Right? love to do it and it comes easy and natural. Right? Yeah. So there’s, there’s a process if you’re feeling a little stuck and not knowing, you know, what you can focus on. But, yeah, it’s usually thinking of like, what gifts that you possess, that can be a value or offer, um, you know, value to somebody else.

Karen Yankovich  26:24

That’s so awesome. That’s so awesome. And honestly, that’s where I come in. And that’s where I start jumping in and saying, you know, all right now, like when were, you know, how do you start to step into this and, and really see yourself as a leader. And, you know, we look around as especially online, what are the I think there’s like a term like, you know, your Instagram life and your real life or something like that, right. And I get that I know that that’s a thing.

But I think that at the same time, we are often forgetting that the people we’re helping are just not where we’re at. And that’s all that matters to be a leader. You You don’t need to be the best in the industry, you just need to be better than the people you serve. And that makes you a leader and, and that’s the space I want people to be in when they’re really creating their, their brand online. Right owning it. They nobody wants to work with somebody that says I’m pretty good at this, right?

We want to work with people. And no one’s going to think you’re better than you say you are. You have to be confident enough in, in your abilities with your help and my help right to to really stand out from your competitors by saying, you know, I’m so good at this. And you’re going to love my eggplant parmesan, you’re going to want next week’s eggplant parmesan right, or whatever that is. Right. It’s it is it you have to also find that place. I think that’s where we start to step into this really then as as business owners and as like the CEOs of our own little worlds.

Megan Tull  27:52

Absolutely.

Karen Yankovich  27:54

So how can people find more about what their passion belief is like, tell me a little bit about passion, belief and The passion belief method.

Megan Tull  28:02

So, the my passion belief method was was really developed, you know, as my signature process that I take people through to help them take that passion and turn it into a business. So the, the method itself is five steps to your empowered self. And so, you know, taking you through the process, you know, it’s really all about first recognizing any self sabotaging beliefs.

These are beliefs that are holding you back from reaching your true potential can essentially sabotage your success before you even start. So these are old beliefs that you may have developed at a young age or through different experiences in your life, but they’re no longer serving you as you’re stepping into the bigger greater version of yourself the leader as you said.

And then so the second step is to really then be able to let go of those limiting beliefs or negative beliefs, to create room for new empowering beliefs. And then it’s all about clarifying your passion, like we talked about really getting crystal clear. And another caveat to that. And I really want to be sure to touch on Karen is, you know, one of the biggest areas that professionals struggle with mostly women, mostly women entrepreneurs, is truly understanding the unique value that they offer, you know, what is the value of the expertise or the services they offer. And often This will keep them stuck. This will keep them playing small.

This will prevent them from being able to powerfully or confidently present themselves or ask for or charge what they’re worth. So I want everyone to know that you all Have a unique value that you offer that is unique to you. Because I believe your unique value comes from a number of different things your God given gifts and talents, your education, your experiences, the skill sets you’ve developed over the years, your characteristics as a person, your values as a person. So all of these things come together to make up your unique value.

So that is really important to understand and for you to be able to own. So then you can step into that. And then you you are really operating from that place of you know, what is your passion and your purpose what makes you unique, because that is how you’re going to stand out in a very crowded market or how you’re going to attract your perfect ideal star clients because when you’re being you there in a resonate with you and want to work with you. So I think we’re really under Standing that and owning your value is huge. When it comes to, you know, having that confidence to get out there and present yourself. And then step four is, you know, really identifying what your priorities and values are.

Because if you really want to have a lifestyle business or a business that is fulfilling and gratifying, and fuels you versus drains, you, it’s really important to get clear on your priorities and your values and make sure then you are setting boundaries to honor and protect that and you’re kind of creating your business around that. And making sure every decision everything that you’re doing in your business is in alignment with those values, or your standards by which you live by. And then the fifth step, Karen is getting ready to adopt your new passion beliefs. So I’ve created a passion beliefs that are empowering beliefs that I believe are essential for Any competent leader to possess and then when you’re able to start adopting those beliefs, then you’re able to fully step into your, your power as a leader, and be able to create that highly successful business around your passion.

Karen Yankovich  32:17

So if we buy your book because it’s all laid out in your book,

Megan Tull  32:20

it is yes. So the book is kind of like your roadmap to leading a passion filled, purposeful, joyful, love based life. And yes, it’s laid out step by step, everything you need to put in place because, as you said, I don’t I personally don’t believe you should have a separate, like, here’s my professional side. Here’s my personal side. When you’re living your passion and your purpose, it’s all one in the same. Yeah, I know. It’s all about accepting who you are giving yourself permission to be you Celebrating that and utilizing your gifts in a powerful way to be of service to others.

Karen Yankovich  33:06

Awesome, awesome. And there is an assessment right that we can take to help us with this.

Megan Tull  33:11

Yes, there is. So as kind of an extension of the book, I created an online quiz. And so you can determine what your passion belief factor is, because it’s really important to understand where you are now, before you can think about, you know, moving forward, right or or changing or bettering your life. So you want to assess where you are. So this is what this quiz will do. So you’re going to discover where you stand when it comes to your self worth, your value, and your level of passion and your life and business as well as your relationship with money.

So all of these things are really important understand about yourself, and then when you’re taking the assessment and And you submit your answers, then you’re going to get a some results and it’s going to show you where you can work on to improve your score, because you’re going to end up being either a self saboteur, which you don’t want to be there, but some people are there and that’s okay. Or you’ll be a striver, or you’ll be a passion, Easter. And we all want to be a passionate Easter because that’s when we’re living our life fully in our passion and in our purpose.

Karen Yankovich  34:35

So cool. So we’ll put a link to that assessment in the show notes for this episode. How can people find you Megan, how else can they find you will obviously put links in the show notes but tell us where you hang out on online?

Megan Tull  34:49

Yes, so I’m very active on Facebook. I have a group called passion Eastern nation which is super fun. women that are living their passion purpose. All over the world, connected there in that community. And it’s a free group.

About the Episode:

Many people think of LinkedIn as their digital resume, but we don’t look at it that way here. However, the more I coach clients and especially after running my first free LinkedIn Profile Challenge in a few years, it has become more and more clear that one thing stays consistent… people love talking about themselves!

Which is great! But at the end of the day, I have to tell you a harsh truth…

People don’t care about you. They care about how you can help them.

Which is why I’m here to tell you the one sure fire way to jumpstart your business and the one secret to standing out from your competition on LinkedIn, and that is this one, simple question you need to ask yourself…

So that… what?

Instead of telling people your digital resume on LinkedIn, we’re diving deeper here and I want YOU to tell people who you are, and what you do, so that ____.

Tell people exactly what they can get from you and exactly how you can contribute to their lives!

For example…

“I’m a financial planner”

Vs.

“I’m a financial planner helping women over 50 structure their finances so that they can retire by the time they’re 65”

You see how different that is?? People want to buy into abundance, and who do you think they’ll buy into?

When writing your LinkedIn profile, you need to think of those things that give your exact target audience a reason to buy into YOU.

Here’s how you can start…

Use the “so that” technique everywhere on your LinkedIn profile

Think about the one project here you are attempting to sell or have people buy into and start applying it everywhere! Start playing with this technique everywhere and you will begin to see what you can shift in your messaging.

Do the “warm feet” test

I once heard someone say “people don’t buy socks, they buy warm feet.”

How true is that?? There is a reason behind why someone buys something and that’s the one secret you need to stand out from your competition and the exact messaging you need to have on your LinkedIn profile

Once you’ve started to apply this technique, take a look back at your linkedin profile. Look at every section, whether it’s your headline or about or previous experience and see if it passes the ‘warm feet’ test, aka, is it telling you what you’re buying into?

Does it reflect what you’re selling, or who you’re trying to attract? Does it make people feel like you can help them achieve something greater to where they do want to buy into you? Start looking at all these sections and you don’t need to go SO in depth with this, but start analyzing and reflecting on if they pass the warm feet test and it’ll start to become easier and more clear as you rewrite your profile.

Start applying this to a specific place of marketing

Think about the one thing you want to make live or the one thing you want to offer with everyone. Start using the “so that” technique to all of your marketing for that one specific product.

Use it in your email headers, email copy, social media posts, website copy, you name it! Once you have this technique down on your LinkedIn profile, it makes it much easier to expand into all areas of your marketing.

We’re not flipping EVERYTHING upside down, we’re not marie condoing your entire business, we’re only focusing on the main piece of your business, and once you’ve claimed success into this, you can spread this abundance to every other thing you do.

Having trouble coming up with your “so that”? Not a problem! I created a FREE worksheet to help you get to the root of your business and help you unveil the one secret to standing out from your competition.

So at the time that I’m recording this, we’re coming on off of the very first LinkedIn profile challenge that we’ve run, it was a week long challenge that we ran in October, November 2019. So if you’re listening to this later, maybe we’ve run it again by then who knows. But it was so much fun. It was so much fun. We learned a ton about how to do how to do a better job on the things we’re doing. We ran into some crazy technology challenges, which maybe, who knows, can we blame Mercury Retrograde for that? I know there’s a lot of people that would never have done what I did during Mercury Retrograde so maybe that was a lesson we learned to who knows.

But one of the things that I realized and I get why you’re doing this, but one of the things that really stood out to me as we ran this challenge, and by the way, if you want to get in on the next challenge, it’s completely free. Just go to LinkedIn profile challenge. com, you can get on the waitlist. But if one of the things that I really that I learned from the people that were in the challenge, and we had tons of people in the challenge with tons of success stories and tons of tons of amazing improvements to their LinkedIn profile, was it everybody wants to talk about themselves.

And I get that it’s LinkedIn. Right? We look at it kind of almost like our digital resume, which I do not agree with. But I get why you think it’s that way a lot of people do. And in your resume, you tell everybody about you all the things you’ve learned all the places, you’ve worked all the education you have, you, you, you, you, you writer, me, me, me, me, me. But at the end of the day, nobody really cares about you. Right? They care about what you can do for them, especially around LinkedIn. And I like to say that your resume is who you used to be.

And your LinkedIn profile is who you are becoming as the person that you’re stepping into. It is the is the business and the life and the career that you’re creating for yourself. Right. And that’s the position that we want to move forward with them and we ran this challenge. We literally took people through a journey not just through their profile, but through the mindset around their profile. So that was really cool and really fun too.

So one of the challenges that I had as we ran through this challenge was to keep everyone focused on why, like what’s in it for me on the point of the person that’s reading the profile. So whether you’re looking to get new clients, whether you’re looking to get a new job, whether you’re looking to just get a promotion, or connect with amazing people or get speaking engagements, or you want to be guests on podcasts, or, you know, you want to find joint venture partners to get your message in front of a lot of people, whatever it is that you’re using LinkedIn to do.

At the end of the day, yes, it’s important that you tell people about you, but it’s more important that that when people see it, they when they say oh my gosh, I totally need to to connect with this person because you’ve hooked them. And to me, there’s two tiny little words that strike fear in the hearts of everyone that I work with privately. And that is so that because you know at the end of the day, people want to connect with you because you You help them with something? Okay. So can you see the difference? So let me just give you an example. You know, it is it let’s say you are a, I use this example a lot, you probably have heard this on this podcast before, let’s say your financial planner, and you tell me all about the great things that you do.

And you’ve all the licenses that you have in the letters after your name and how many years you’ve been doing this, you and a million other people do that. Right? So So why do I care? Right? Why do I care? So if you’re telling me in your LinkedIn profile, that I’m a financial planner, that help women over 50 create enough wealth to retire at 60? Now, I’m paying attention, right? If you’re just saying, I’m a financial planner, I’m thinking okay, so what so that what, so that I can help women? Great, great. You’re getting there. Why do I need help? I’m a women. I’m a woman so that what? Well, you’re a woman over 50 and you’re facing retirement, you don’t have enough money.

Okay, now I’m starting to pay more attention right? But I’m not done with you yet right? So that what I, why do you need more money so that you can retire at 60. And I can probably take this so that even further, so that when, so that you can retire at 60, so that you’re young enough to play with your grandchildren so that you can travel so that you can spend more time with the people you love. Right?

That is what we’re buying. We’re not buying a financial planner, we’re buying abundance so that I can enjoy my life in retirement. Right. So when you’re reading your LinkedIn profile, you need to be thinking about those kinds of things. Can you see the difference? Can you see the difference from the beginning of that statement to the end of that statement? Now, we’re not going to go on your LinkedIn profile and say I help you spend more time you know, travel better in your retirement. I mean, maybe you can, maybe you do and I absolutely can help you with that like that. I love that. But imagine the difference that that can make in your business.

Imagine the difference that incorporating the so that technique into everything you do in your business. Imagine the difference that could make in the changes. Again, even if you’re looking for a job, you know, okay, I know Word and Excel. All right? I don’t care about that I’m looking to hire somebody and I care that you know, we’re like, so that I can give you reports every week. Okay?

Now I’m paying attention so that you’re not stressing about your numbers, you know, so that you can spend more time doing the things you love to do. Right? And maybe it’s in my business and you’re going to say I don’t care necessarily that you know how to do spreadsheets. But if you tell me at the end of the so that, that my skills allow me to spend more time creating great ideas for for my podcast, or to get in front of more audiences I’m paying attention now. Right?

So that really behind the assistant and this skills I’m buying the so that and I’ve heard of say and I don’t know who said this, if anybody knows who said this, please let me know who this is. But I’ve heard it said and I love this as people don’t buy socks. They buy warm feet. So we want to think about that in your business. And so we’re going to talk about here today. And again, you know, I’m always tying this over to LinkedIn. Right? It starts by incorporating the so that you know the warm feet technique into your LinkedIn profile, so that people will want to build relationships with you so that you’re building the life and the business and the career of your dreams so that you can spend more time with the people you love, right?

So the first thing I want you to think about is to start to test this, use this so that technique everywhere, okay, use the so that technique everywhere, start to apply it to the copy on your website, start to apply it to email subject lines, or to apply it to the emails you write to people start to apply it everywhere and not from a you know, I don’t want you I don’t want to stop you in your fields. I can’t send this email because I haven’t done this yet. But I want you to start playing with this right it’s really right now it’s just about playing with it. Applying this everywhere. Apply. So that technique to, to all the things you’re doing in your business in the next week, and see what you can shift, okay, see what you can shift in the messaging. Of course, I want you to also apply to your LinkedIn profile, apply to your headline if you’re part of the LinkedIn profile challenge that we’ve done some of this work already.

And again, if you want to do the the challenge of this, again, we’re gonna incorporate even more of this, because I realized in the first round that that I need to incorporate more of this based on some of the like, when we were in the heart of it, it was hard to see what people were needing, you know, overall, but now that we’re looking back at it, that’s why I want to do this episode to get you thinking more about that because I don’t think we saw enough of that in the profiles that were happening in the challenge.

So start to just play with this make this fun, don’t make this a job. Start to play with it and keep going. Like pretend I am at your back going so that was so that was so that was so that what Okay, start to play with this not in a I don’t want you to stress about this and like I’d have to rewrite your whole website, but I will I want you to start to apply it to things that you’re doing now. And just again, have some fun with this.

And then the second thing I want you to do is like take a look at your LinkedIn profile. And maybe we’ll just start with your LinkedIn headline and see if it passes the warm feet test. Right? Are you selling socks? Are you selling warm feet, look at your LinkedIn profile, just broadly, maybe just start with the headline and see if you can incorporate some warm feet into that profile.

Okay, just again, don’t rip the whole thing apart. Don’t start all over again to see where you can infuse warm feet using the so that technique into your LinkedIn profile. And then once you’ve done that, you know if you’re listening to this podcast that I know that you’re interested in LinkedIn marketing and you I know that you can you know how to benefit from relationship based marketing. Start to apply it right the first you started to test and you’re like Hon, this is kind of fun. How can I incorporate it?

The second thing I want you to do with Go to your LinkedIn profile and see if it passes the warm feet test. And if it doesn’t start to incorporate warm feed into that. And the third thing I want you to do is start to incorporate it into the rest of your marketing. You’ve done some testing with this, right? So the testing should be shaking out maybe some areas you want to look at first, right and not your whole website. But maybe it’s a maybe you look at what you’re going to be promoting in the next three months. Right? That’s all you need to look at right now.

So this is not I don’t want you to rip everything apart. Just baby step. This is we’re not Marie Kondo in your whole website. We’re not taking everything out of your closets. We’re just looking at one closet, right? One program that you’re maybe you’re going to be talking about in the next three months, maybe it’s even something you’re going to sell if you’re looking listening to this live, you know, or you know, when it goes live in the fall of 2019 what’s happening between now and the end of the year for you and what can you you know, dig deeper with this. So that technique into that piece of your marketing okay. Then just start to use this technique everywhere you go.

So let me just recap that for a second, I want you to, to you to test start to play with so that in some of the different things you’re doing in the next week, then going over to your LinkedIn profile and see if it passes the warm feet test, if not starting to use the so that technique to get you closer to warm feet and a more away from, you know, buying socks, and then apply it start to apply it to a specific place in your marketing. And this is where you can start to shift this because if you’re building relationships, here’s my so that right?

If you’re building if you’re using LinkedIn to build relationships, and your profile is compelling, and it talks about warm feet, and it, it uses this so that technique and you dive and you’re diving deeper into that and you’re hooking people into wanting to talk to you, if the next thing you’re talking to them about is this offer that you’re going to be doing in the next three months. I want that to also be a Giving them warm feet, right. And that’s how we very quickly start to use LinkedIn, not just to build our networks, but to build our bank accounts.

Okay, so we’ve got a worksheet for you to help make this simple, is the so that technique workshop, you can just go to Karenyankovich.com/098download to get that worksheet. And we take you step by step through applying the so that technique to one specific thing, we give you an example of it, and then we give you the blank so that you can apply it and you can print it and use it as many times as you want.

It’s available PDF, I mean, it’s really a fun, it’s really a fun worksheet, you’re totally going to want to grab this and again you get it either on the blog page for this which is Karenyankovich.com/098 or at Karenyankovich.com/098download and start to apply this so that technique using we make it simple for you using this worksheet, and then come on over to my LinkedIn tips Facebook group and share your worksheet with us.

Again, the link is All over the place here, but it’s Karen yankovich.com slash Facebook group. And it’s a Facebook group that teaches LinkedIn tips. And let’s see if I can, let’s see if you can pass the so that test, or let’s see if you can stump me. Let’s see if you come to that group share your worksheet and let’s see if I can, I can poke you and get a little deeper on the so that with the so that technique, so that you can make more money in your business. Okay. This, again, is work that’s done up front and needs to be looked at on occasion. And then you just incorporate the simple systems into your world. You know that I want to support you with this.

That’s why I do this podcast. So remember, just come on over to the Facebook group that we teach LinkedIn tips. I’m in there all the time. It is a free Facebook group. I’d love to have you in there. I can’t wait to see how you do if you can stump me if you can get all the way to the end of the show. That’s right in that Facebook group, and it’s Karen yankovich.com slash Facebook group to get in that I can’t Wait for you to, I can’t wait to see what you’ve got going.

And we’re known to give little gifts if we can figure out where to mail them in the actual us mail for people that have done that. So I would love to send one to you. So I’d love to see that. Tell me what you think about this episode on social media and in the reviews. And the bottom line is I really want this to be simple for you. Let me help you. Let this be simple.

About the Episode:

This episode is jam-packed with information from Karen on how to achieve success in only 5 minutes a day, and if you really want to go in-depth with it, definitely check out her book and podcast!

However, I wanted to pull out one key concept that Karen talked about that really resonated with me as you can hear on the podcast.

The one thing you can do to achieve success in only 5 minutes a day is to…

Flip time.

Karen went in depth into this on the podcast episode but the idea of flipping time is to do the things first that are meaningful.

As women, we are brought up and tend to prioritize doing things for everyone else instead of ourselves. The concept of flipping time to achieve more success focuses on the concept of taking 5 minutes a day to focus only on you, self-care, self-actualization and what is meaningful to you.

Many of us think we don’t have time to focus on ourselves, however it’s really choosing what you put your energy towards, rather than thinking about “making time” for you.

Putting yourself first also has a ripple effect. By doing things to take care of yourself, everyone else’s life around you gets better as well. It’s about the energy you put out into the world. Putting yourself first makes you a more positive person, can set an example for those in your life whether they’re employee’s or family members, and in turn, you end up surrounding yourself with people similar to you.

5 minutes a day to focus on what is most meaningful for you is the key to how to achieve success in only 5 minutes a day.

So we’re going to dive right into this week’s episode with Karen Briscoe.

Okay, so I’m here today with Karen Briscoe. She is the creator of the transformative five minutes success concept. She’s got books on the topics and she’s got a podcast which you’re going to hear about, you know, with a daily format was takeaways that propel one to achieve success at a higher level in business and life. Her first book was featured in Inman as a must read for your best year in real estate in 2017. I know we have a lot of real estate agents that listen to the show.

She’s the host of the five minutes success podcast which I actually had the honor of being a guest on. So we’ll put a link to that episode in the show notes as well. And she is the principal owner of the Huckabee Briscoe Conway group with Keller Williams, and that group has been recognized in the Wall Street Journal is one of the top 250 realtor teams in the US. So She’s got lots of accolades. She’s in Northern Virginia as a real estate agent. But what we’re going to talk a little bit today is about flipping time. And I want to hear what Karen has to say about that. So Karen, thanks so much for being here with us today.

Karen Briscoe 4:14
Well, thank you for having me. I love the idea of good girls getting rich.

Karen Yankovich 4:18
Me too. Me too. All right. So let’s talk a little bit about how that how that resonates with you. Right. So so you’re a real estate agent in Northern Virginia. And as I shared with you before we turn the record button on, you know, I live in New Jersey and I know 50 real estate agents in Northern Virginia. So there’s a lot of what you have to do a lot of work to stand out from the crowd, right. So tell me a little bit about your real the journey that you’ve had from real estate agent to what you’re doing now.

Karen Briscoe 4:45
So my residential real estate journey started, our children were in the middle school, late elementary school ages and I had basically been the primary caregiver my husband’s career in public policy in DC. required a lot of travel and a lot of commitment to his focus on that. And so I stayed home and I’m blessed. I’m really glad I did.

At the same time as I got older and we saw colleges looming on the horizon, and I really wanted to go back to work I, I really felt like I had made my contribution in the PGA is of the area and was ready to make an impact. So I became a actually did commercial real estate for a little bit and found that to be actually kind of boring in the sense that I was like, there wasn’t any relationship to it. The residential side gave me the hard side and the soft side the negotiation hard side with financial knowledge and market knowledge and strategy and then the soft side the relationship.

So when you say, Well, how did I do it? I got into relationship really quickly with people in the sense that I saw it as me adding service and value I really didn’t ever want to take on or felt like I had in me to be that persona, the salesperson. And the pushy salesperson even to this day was somebody says, we’ll call that person I’m like, Oh, they could call me and me because I just didn’t want to have that impression but in terms of started with my sphere, and stayed true to that marketing to my sphere, and after a couple of years, a top agent in the area recognize that she was number 10 in the nation at the time, so I could be and asked me to join her team become her partner. Wow. And then sadly, she passed away and OA Well, I don’t know if you remember what happened in September await but the financial markets crashed that month.

Karen Yankovich 6:46
Oh, I had a house for sale during that time. Yeah, so I was really familiar with the real estate market in 08

Karen Briscoe 6:54
there wasn’t a lot of business going on. It really changed dramatically. The good news Is I had been in commercial real estate in Texas during the savings and loan crisis. So I felt it I, I had some skills and muscle memory on what to do. And so I immediately started putting that into practice, which was basically eliminating all almost all paid advertising and going into, you know, direct contact with people. And interestingly enough, I had somebody recommend that I start writing a blog.

So this was in Oh 809 when blogging was new to the world, and so I started writing a blog and doing a market study, kind of a Barbara Corcoran type of philosophy of being the knowledge contributor to my community, and some with that, also brought on a business partner 2009 Lizzie Conway and we set about to build the business and we built it basically on those principles. Now, we still do some local advertising just because we’re working entrenched locally, but almost everything we do is we live here we work here we get back here.

And to the degree that the other night I was at the local Mexican restaurant, and from our table to the restroom, I stopped by four groups of people from the different spheres of my life. current client, a neighbor, current neighbor, a someone I knew from church and someone my family my my daughter went to preschool with their daughter 25 years ago. And one of the guys said, Okay, I’m already your name. You’re already in my have my vote as mayor of McLean. And so just that is a evidence of what does it mean to be mayor of your of your community, but that’s just one of the 17 years later What has happened?

Karen Yankovich 8:52
Wow, that’s interesting. So but that but the journey then from real estate agent, so you’ve been blogging and you have your own podcast. So how has that affected your business? Like, where? What does that do? How does How do you? How does that affect your day? You know, like the day of Karen.

Karen Briscoe 9:10
So the blogging, interestingly enough, and the success led to a lot of people want to know how I did it, which is how often happens when people achieve a certain level of success. And a lot of people said, I should write a book because they the blogs were ranking really high on say, like realtor.com sites and other sites.

And people said they were memorable and that they were sticky and had story along with information. And so I that led me to write the book real estate success and five minutes a day, which was published in actually three years ago, August of 2016. And that book led me to being a guest on podcast. So what happens right People want to authority author, you’re a thought leader in that space.

And as I was asked to be on more and more podcasts it occurred to me that if I had a podcast I could have interesting conversations with people. And so that’s what led to the five minutes success podcast. I like to say my my book asked for the podcast for its birthday. So it’s because you know, and this is interesting because really these things get birth a lot of ways out of something like the blog, birth, the book, and the book, birth the podcast. And then now and also now its birth to more books as well as online course into in terms of what does that do for my business? Well, it’s, it’s doubled it. Honestly,

Karen Yankovich 10:48
that was where I was going to so it’s doubled your real estate business.

Karen Briscoe 10:50
Yes, this year.

Karen Yankovich 10:52
Tell us about that. How does that work?

Unknown Speaker 10:54
How did that happen? I think it to me it’s the law of attraction. A lot of people talk about In terms of the universe, you know, you put out this energy and the universe brings it back. I what I found is law of attraction is it’s not always matchy matchy for me. And this is where I think some people get caught up in well, but I put that out to the universe and it didn’t come back that way. And I’m like, Okay, well, I put things out to the universe and other things come to me.

Karen Briscoe 11:23
So it creates this, this spirit of generosity, the spirit of that you’re, you’re giving knowledge and so other people want to be a part of that. And in terms of the connectivity of podcasting, and being an author, the majority of what that looks like monetarily wise, because we were like, Well, how do you monetize this is really referrals. Because we’re in the Washington DC metro region, they now call us the DMV, which I don’t know if that’s a positive way I would talk about DC, Maryland, Virginia, but that’s what they’re calling us. But there we are a, a metro area that has a lot of people that are coming here. And so they find out about me.

And it’s not even necessarily the buyer or the seller, it could be their agent, right? In Hawaii or their father, by law in Atlanta. And I’ve had both of those things happen. So that it monetarily monetizing. But it also there’s book sales and, and that kind of thing. But I want to talk about the true monetization of it. It is the connectivity that is created this stream of

Karen Yankovich 12:37
the relationships, which is what we talked about all the time on this show.

Karen Briscoe 12:41
And it’s all goes back to that.

Karen Yankovich 12:43
Yes, yes. So true. So you talk though, in your books and on your podcast, about flipping time, so Tell, tell me what does that What does that even mean? And I didn’t never I don’t even know the answer to this going into this. So we’re all going to be surprised by what this sounds like.

Karen Briscoe 12:59
So the idea The other five minutes success came about because people said people as in mostly agents said to me, they didn’t have enough time to invest in their personal or business development. And I was like, What do you have five minutes a day? Everybody said, Yes, I have five minutes a day. And I said, Okay, so if if you would commit to five minutes a day, to investing in your personal business development, and the way the books are set up there, what I call daily reader, so every day there’s a story that has an application in one of the fundamentals of what is really business fundamentals but real estate success, and it follows Parkinson’s Law.

So Parkinson’s Law is that what limiting and restricting time can actually make us more effective and efficient. People talk about time management and they talk about work life balance, and, and the reason why they they have that often doesn’t work for people is because time is is a creative thing. Laws who said this, so to say I don’t have time. It’s like saying I Don’t want to what people by their actions are saying is they don’t really want to do it. So the idea of flipping time is to do the things first that and I’m going to use the term of Abraham Maslow self actualization some people call it zone of genius, some people call it flow, sort of genius is gay Hendrix term.

The idea is meaningful work or something meaningful. Many people because of duty or obligation, they they’ve put that off. And what happens is that they’re living in this lack life, and they’re never catching up right? They’re never making time for themselves or never creating time for themselves. And so, the That’s why, the idea to flip it is to take that self actualization pyramid from Abraham Maslow and to do the self actualization first. the fascinating thing is, is that everything else gets better.

Because if you look at that pyramid, you have esteemed needs, where you’re going to feel better about yourself. If you’re doing in a tech Integrity and Authenticity you’re doing for yourself, first, you’re going to take care of yourself. Yeah. And then your relationships are going to be better because you’re going to be better. And then your productivity is going to be better because you are going to be living operating at your highest and best self.

And then your physical needs are going to be better because you’re going to be taking care of yourself, you’re going to be putting the first things first. There’s lots of ways of thinking about it. And then that’s where people oftentimes get caught up in, you know, again, the time thing. It’s becomes an really about energy.

So it’s really energy, not time again, if time is a creative thing. So currency perfect. performance is energy. And I really want the really the reason why I have this mindset or this vision of people this paradigm of flipping it, because what I think holds a lot of people back is they try these, they try to fit it in after everything else, or they try to manage it, or they try to do the whole work life thing. And I’m like, no, it’s all life. So all life, right, it’s all life. And so that’s where I came up with the flip time and it came about for me personally, because and this again happens with people when they achieve a high level success.

And then you look around and you go, this is it. I just keep, you know, flipping real estate burgers for the rest of my life and go out right off into the sunset. And, and so many people wait until you know they retire or the kids out of college or the mortgage is paid off or just until This or just until that, and I was like, you know, I want to live a life fully now. And I want to start doing it now. And I’ve had, I haven’t had any personal. Some people it happens after they’ve had a personal event. But you can choose to do it right or that waiting for that to happen.

Karen Yankovich 17:23
It is so true. And there’s, you know, this really resonates with me because I can easily get sucked into the busy work. I mean, I can easily get sucked into that. And when I get sucked into the busy work, I can see the difference in my checking account balance. I mean, there’s no doubt that when I prioritize me or even just prioritize the important things in my life and in my business, and flip the time and say, I know these things have to get done, but the priority is, you know, this time or that it changes everything. And it’s such a hard concept, even for me to understand and like I understand it, but sometimes I’m like yeah, but I still got other stuff done. Right But then when you see it actually when you see changes in your lifeas a result of flipping it it’s hard to argue with that right?

Karen Briscoe 18:15
So we do our is to change the way you look at things and the way you look at things changes. And what you’re talking about is the other thing I am particularly women and you’re talking about good girls getting rich, there were many people are are raised are trained that you know, they’re supposed to put other people first. And a lot of people use the analogy of the airplane ride and putting the oxygen mask on yourself first. Yeah. How do you say that is a survival perspective? And yes, if you’re on an airplane, it’s going down but the mask on first, I’m talking about how to create a life of thriving and yes, so putting self actualization first.

What it does is has a ripple effect it’s like the pebble that’s thrown in the pond right so you have the ripples out the people in my life lives have improved. The more I self actualize my employees lives improve. First of all, I’m happier. I’m easier funder to work for. Our business has, like I said, doubled. They’re doing more meaningful work, because I’m focusing on meaningful work. They’re choosing to focus on meaningful work. Right? Right. So you see how then your surround you I are surrounding ourselves with people that are operating and living that way. And then you become you know, the five people you surround yourself with is yes, your own says right. But think about it as leader as the. For me. I’m the Rainmaker mega agent, the owner of the company. Funny.

I have seen the people around it’s because it’s somebody it’s permission right? So they see me. Make the time Take the time for vacations and self care like I’m very faithful about self care. I get a massage every week I work out with a personal trainer twice a week II and I put all those things in there first and everybody knows Garrett’s just not available. And you know what, the world is not stopped yet.

Karen Yankovich 20:28
Yeah, really? Wow.

Karen Briscoe 20:31
Right. Here’s it out. And it really does it does figure it out itself out and and become and then some people say, well does anything, not work out and like, if you want to look at it that way, change the way you look at things, the way you look at things changes. My husband had a heart event in April of this year 2019. And he was in the hospital with his heart event on my 60th birthday. So a lot of people would say Karen, I do Just don’t see how that it has a positive outcome. And I was like, well change the way you look at things we look at things change. Another quote I really resonates with me is is Hal Elrod, who wrote the Miracle Morning.

Karen Yankovich 21:14
Oh, my gosh. And his new book, have you read his new book? Miracle equation? So I was literally going next with this because it’s so it’s so connected. And so related to this. Yeah.

Karen Briscoe 21:25
And how did write the foreword of the book for flip time love life? He says, Yes, things happen for a reason. I get to choose the reason. So I was walking around the hospital going here, things happen for a reason I get to choose the reason we’re supposed to leave for Greece. So the reason I choose is that this would not have been a good outcome in Greece. This better this happened here. Right? Right.

I get to choose the reason it was a wake up call in the sense of health is way more of a priority. Now. When you have That happened. My bad, but it wasn’t. But now it’s front and center. And so no doubt about it, that’s going to be priority. And we were able to reschedule our trip degrees turned out the group we were with was half the size. So it was way better. So there was so many I ended up selling three houses that weekend, which if I hadn’t been here, I wouldn’t have been able, you know, may not have happened.

So, I was like, Okay, I get to choose the reason so I started looking for the reasons that benefited me and benefited my life. Because I could have found all the reasons why it was really crappy. I’ve been her daughter flew in from Austin, I wasn’t gonna be able to be with her on my birthday. So that that’s where flipping so this is really a flipping This is not like for me, that’s why I really want to emphasize that because I think there are a lot of other philosophies out there. there and they try to the idea of work life balance. It’s like switching between the two that’s like task switching that’s like, right, multitask. I’m like, No, this is really a flipping and and putting it first.

Karen Yankovich 23:11
So okay, so I’m going to make a couple of assumptions here. So tell me if I’m wrong. So what you’re saying, though, in your five minutes a day is start with five minutes a day, start with achieving a higher level of success with you know, doing this in five minute increments, like flipping it in five minute increments. Are they related like that? Or my making an unfair assumption?

Karen Briscoe 23:32
Absolutely. Because the other thing I found is that people have oftentimes is paralysis of Okay, all sounds great, but I you know, back to I don’t have enough time. So what I by giving them the permission of doing it just five minutes, then they’ll start to experience the benefits of it and then they will want to do more. So it is again back to Parkinson’s Law, telling somebody you only have five minutes or more likely to do it. There’s lot of research on habit formation and micro habits and all of that, and this is one of the keys to get people started.

Karen Yankovich 24:07
Awesome. Awesome. I love it, I definitely have found, I have found that implementing these kinds of things into my day definitely helped me with success. And the interesting thing for me is where I find pull pull a little bit, but I guess I have to kind of look at this the way I look at things, right, I definitely mornings are my most productive time.

So every now and then I think maybe I should spend a couple of hours maybe I talked to you about this when we were talking before, but maybe, you know, I need to spend a couple of hours in the morning working and then taking the meantime and then going back to work. I don’t know I go back and forth on this because I do start my day off every day with me time and it is a lot of it is from how I rods work I do. I definitely love that. And one of the things that I do that has changed a lot for me. And this definitely can be done in five minutes a day. And this is such a simple thing.

You know, we hear a lot about meditation, and there’s There’s there’s as many different ways to meditate as there are people on this planet, right? There’s everybody’s got their own way of, of whatever they call meditation. And one of the things that I like to do, as I call it, like listening time, like my brain is always going all day long. I’m like, I do this, I do this, and I’ve got this call, and I got to get ready for this. So I take five minutes every morning, I just say, I’m just gonna listen, and I don’t listen to like, I don’t listen to me pray, like I listened to what do I need to know about today? What do I need to know?

And I hear the most impactful things in my business in those five minutes. Like, you know, maybe I’ll remember something that I would have totally forgot to do that day. And I listened by the way with a pen and paper, because I want to get it out of my head, so that I can spend the five minutes doing that so if I think of something, or if I or if I listened and here’s something in my life that you know, and sometimes it’s some it’s something I don’t want to say profound about life changing profound, but often, it’s the That I just didn’t stop long enough to remember. But when I make the time to say I just want to listen to what I need to hear today. It it’s amazing what I hear.

Karen Briscoe 26:13
When the Hal Elrod Miracle Morning, I think that is particularly because you have paper with you is the journaling component, right? So the striving and that’s where a lot of epiphanies and ideas come when you’re not focused on it. I mean, think about it. I mean, the whole idea of the shower phenomenon or

Karen Yankovich 26:31
Yeah, exactly our sleep on it, you know,

Karen Briscoe 26:34
Yeah or sleep on it or out in nature or a lot of creativity occurs. Because the space is there for the the magic to happen. There’s a book called Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Elizabeth Gilbert. Yep. And I want to know this, what she wrote, Eat, Pray Love. So her, and this really was a huge impact on me and what made me write my book. When she talks about the universe and the energy fields, and that there are ideas in the universe that are meant to be manifested, and they will come to someone, and if someone doesn’t act on it for whatever reason, usually time or money is like your main reason like I don’t have enough time to do that. I don’t know if I need to that.

Then if the idea is time has come, it will find a way for it to happen. And this has been proven so even like the when electricity was big invented, really wasn’t big invented, it was being discovered. There were three major players that at the time, Edison, Westinghouse and Tesla, and there’s a movie coming out about it. The idea was, though, that it was the time for electricity to be discovered and brought into the world. And so we the universe, and whatever you want to Call it these ideas are will come and we have been given the gift of choosing whether we’re going to act on them or not. And really there’s creating this space and the energy to be able to receive it is it’s you hit the nail on the head it really is key to success it really is because otherwise what often happens is this whole idea of busy right, which is become this badge of honor this.

Karen Yankovich 28:35
Like I try not to wear the badge of honor I do more often than I like but I definitely try not to wear that badge of honor anymore.

Karen Briscoe 28:43
It’s become like this competitive Arena in here like Okay, so I’ve out busy you and I don’t know if that’s something that is, you know, worthwhile to subscribe to. I want to be living it every once a while I provide myself with my husband as well. You know we’re choosing to live this life. It’s not, you know, an accidental life or Okay, this is what I got left over. So I’m going to do it, I’m choosing to live this life, right? And I, because that’s a choice then. Then statements like, Oh, I’m so busy that’s like, discounting, discounting the that that means, in my view means you didn’t choose it, like you’ve been thrown upon all these things. I know I choose to live this this life.

So you mentioned earlier that there’s, there’s like, a keys to the to this flipping time in the seven levels of success. What are the keys of this five minutes success? Well, so five minutes success. We’ve got I’ve already talked about the keys of flip time. So five minutes success. When people ask me, well, how did I achieve success at a high level so quickly, the first one is committed to get lead. So business development prospecting, lead generation, everybody. As it now, if you really want to expand the perspective on that, that’s also idea creation if you’re an entrepreneur, or even if you just want to live a fuller, richer, more creative life, ideas are a way to create a bigger life, right? So everybody does that to achieve at a high level. Then there’s consultative sales.

So you take that lead that customer client relationship, or idea, and you take it through the process, so actually has an outcome, real estate, that’s by itself, helping people buy and sell houses, right. So some people call it conversion, but it’s taking that and through this process, your skills and strategies to success in both of those areas. What often happens is people get stuck on a hamster wheel. They’re only as good as their Next deal their next transaction is client and becomes very, you know, wrote and transactional. And so connect to build and grow is creating sustainable scalable business and life I because if it’s not sustainable, you’re going to burn out. Right? Right.

If it’s not scalable, all the benefits of scalable is you can leverage create systems and you can live a fuller life because you will actually be able to have a life and then everything is surrounded by success thinking activities and vision and we’ve been talking about this so it’s kind of like which comes first I feel like they’re all important. The success thinking is, is the change the way you look at things the way you look at things changes the everything happens for a reason I get to choose a reason those kind of affirmations, thinking Vision is, okay, where do you see what you want in your life because I think a lot of people end up with accidental lives. I think they’re like, Okay, I got stuck here.

So I’m going to just keep doing this. And that’s where they get on this busy track. So create that vision, and then the activities. There’s a lot of programs that you know, help you create your vision, and they help you with your affirmations and thinking, but then, like, forget the part that there actually is actions in between. I mean, I wrote a blog and I still run a blog, right? I mean, it like, think, oh, wouldn’t it be great if I had a blog and then not do anything? I actually wrote a blog.

So there’s our there’s activities in there and and, you know, you you work with your community on on the activities of connecting, you know, via LinkedIn, social media. So there, you have to do not have to you choose to do those because that’s what takes you from your thinking to your vision, right?

Karen Yankovich 32:55
Yeah. Yeah. Very cool. So how would people get started with This How do you get started on you know, like what’s the first steps to take

Karen Briscoe 33:05
Well, some people when they start with their business they can put these steps into place the commit to get leads the consultative sell the connected build and grow and then the success and the activities and vision. I find that’s a great place to start because the idea flip time love life often is a journey. Well, not often it is a journey, right? It’s a for women for good girls. It’s a heroines journey it’s it’s a ongoing process.

That’s why heroines journeys, I don’t know if you’re familiar with them or yeah always illustrated in circles. So you’re, you you’re on this call to adventure. And then you go through the transformational and then come back with gifts so that it’s going to be ongoing, I find with women when they start to achieve success The confidence that comes with that really propels everything else. So getting some success and confidence under your belt, I think is always a great place to start. And then but just know that the the heroines journey is yours to go on.

And when you have a situation you’re like, Okay, do I do self care? Or do I, I do self actualization first? I say yes. Yes, do it. And if starting with five minutes is what you could commit to then start there to start today and start there, because this is the day you have and if I can do it, you can do it too. I really find that people, they really can do more than they, they know that or they feel like they can. And so the idea is just get them started.

Karen Yankovich 34:51
Okay, and do you you have a seven day Quick Start? Is that right? Yes, absolutely. You should have about that.

Karen Briscoe 34:58
Yeah. So it’s Going to be based on the real estate book real estate success in five minutes a day. So it’s just got some seven days that you can get jump started with that. And it’s got a little bit of each one of those components. Awesome.

Karen Yankovich 35:11
So I’ll put the link in the show notes to that. And we’ll get started. So how else can people find out more about you and find your books? And we’ll obviously we’ll put links to all of your stuff, your podcasts in the show notes. But what do you want to leave everybody here with today?

Karen Briscoe 35:24
So the number five minute success. So we have the website, we have Facebook group in page, we have LinkedIn Of course, we have the podcast, the five minutes success and be sure to check out great guests such as Karen Yankovich. And then please reach out to me on social I have Instagram, all of those. I would love to connect with people and and I really appreciate the opportunity to be here today. Karen.

Karen Yankovich 35:52
Always great to have you here. Karen Thank you so much for being here. This was really, you know, often we put ourselves in a like a bucket right? Like I’m a real estate Or CPA or I’m an attorney. But I what I love about your story is that you’ve expanded beyond that, and you help others do as well. So thank you for that work that you do.

Karen Briscoe 36:10
Well, my pleasure. Like I said, If I could do it, you can do it too. I really would love to help other women on their heroines journey.

Karen Yankovich 36:16
Awesome. Thank you so much for being here today. Karen. I hope you love this episode, as much as I did. I mentioned earlier that I had some light bulb moments in this and one of them really was and I think you heard me say like, Ah, you know, where we talk a lot about women, as women, as you know, put on your oxygen mask first. Like that’s a big deal. Like we’re trying to learn how to do that, to support us that how important it is to support ourselves so that we can support the people that are in our world, our families, our clients, our you know, employees, whatever.

But Karens, take on that was pretty interesting to me like Hey, yo, that when you’re in survival mode, I want you to be able to do this when you’re thriving, not just when you’re surviving. So that was that was an eye opener to me. That was an eye opener to me. I’d love to hear from you what eye openers you might have had in this episode, send me a tweet or an Instagram post or a Facebook post or whatever you like to do. Email me, whatever, whatever you like to do. And let me know what your aha moment was in this episode because I always love to hear that.

About the Episode:

This week while running my LinkedIn Profile Challenge I was feeling SO inspired with the responses from you all and it really brought me back to my “why”.

I started this podcast and everything I do to help women come into their own and OWN what they’re good at. Many times women feel like they can’t truly embrace who they are and what they’re good at on LinkedIn, and that’s where I want to step in and say that you CAN do it.

That being said, this week I wanted to make the podcast a bit more motivational, so I want to give you guys 3 things you can do right now to create your ideal life and truly have the courage to do so:

Identify Your Perfect People

Knowing who your perfect people are from the get go is the best way possible for you to create your ideal life. Make sure you know who are your ideal:

  • Clients
  • Employers
  • Co-Workers
  • Connections etc.

Whatever you are looking to find on LinkedIn, have those perfect people in your mindset. Identifying your perfect people right away makes it easier to create and live your ideal life!

As I mentioned in the podcast, knowing your perfect people will also make it easier to say no or walk away from those people or opportunities that do not fit into your ideal life.

Niche Down

You need to be known for something specific! If you serve a wide variety of different people, offer a ton of different services, especially if they aren’t related to each other, then how can people know when and how they can rely on you?

Niching down and targeted into what you’re truly good at will not only make your business explode, but it will draw people TO you instead of you having to reach out to those people constantly in your business.

Be Prepared

This is more of a mindset than anything. In order to create your ideal life, you need to be READY for it! Know that there will be a few things that come up, whether it is people, opportunities or business that will be tough to walk away from, but necessary. If they don’t fit into your ideal vision, no matter how good, you may have to walk away from them if they don’t support the ideal life you are trying to create

Understand that it will not be easy, but it CAN be simple.

That’s why I rebranded my brand new program to She’s Linked Up. Stop worrying about what you don’t have and start positioning yourself as the expert you are and see your successful business go from good, to great!

So it’s been kind of acrazy month or a couple of months here in my world, this show is going live in November, early November 2019. And we’re in the middle of launching our new digital program. She’s linked up. And you know, I talked a little bit in the past couple weeks about that. But it really it was a big decision for me, because while I knew that the vast majority of the people that I was helping on LinkedIn are women, and that there are so many more women that don’t realize how powerful this could be for them. And they’re spinning their wheels doing all kinds of other marketing and not seeing the kinds of success so I really, but they don’t they didn’t feel included on LinkedIn. Right?

So I struggled a little bit with making the decision to change over my business. How that ended. And by the way, I see how I’m qualifying it already, even though you guys, not that we’re not supporting you, man, because I absolutely am. I just want the women to feel more included. So that’s why we’re really focusing on that. And, you know, my podcast has been good girls get rich, we’re going on, you know, this is Episode 96. Right? So we’ve been, so I’ve been supporting that we’ve got lots of men listeners to that, but I really, I really didn’t take the plunge to step into this in my business up until now.

So here’s the thing. So we have these podcasts planned out weeks in advance, and, you know, listen, sometimes I’m more ahead of them than others. But this week, I went to see the Harriet Tubman movie like a couple days ago, and it just came out. And it was unbelievably moving to me and so many ways. And there were so many lessons in that movie to me, just about women, strong women and strong women that needed to make it clear that they needed to be taken, taken seriously and really just showing up and doing what needed to be done to make things happened.

That’s what we do as women, right, and we’re not always looking for the accolades and what nor do we know what do we need the accolade nor did Harriet Tubman want accolades. She was just doing, you know, just incredible work and want to just be able to keep doing it right. But a couple of it like the day after I saw the movie, I saw an article that came out that talked about how brave Harriet Tubman was to know that in order to help the people she wanted to help, she had to leave things behind. And that that might be the bravest thing that she did. And that was really eye opening to me. Because, you know, listen, not that I’m comparing LinkedIn strategy or helping our clients. So the work that Harriet Tubman did, I think there’s lessons to be learned there. Right. And one of the lessons to me was was around stepping into the role and that’s what we’ve been talking about right stepping into the role that you want to be living And breathing and and being in in the next year and finding the courage within yourself. And we’ve been doing this in the free LinkedIn profile challenge that I’ve been running, finding the courage to step into that role. But what I kind of missed until I saw this movie and saw that article was that sometimes the courage isn’t about stepping into it, it’s about stepping away from something that we’re comfortable with. Does that make sense?

And that’s what I wanted to talk about on this show. Right? You know, we I know and maybe you’ve even seen it in your own business or your own career, that the more niche we get in our business, the the more people we can help. It’s just a fact. And you know, we struggle with it, and it seems counterintuitive, but I can help all kinds of people. But when you’re known for something, then people start to show up and saying and lining up to do business with you. When you’re not known for something in particular, instead of people watching Up to do business with you, you’re lining up with all the hundreds of other people that do that general thing that you do to try and grab one little piece of business. Right?

So what I want on your own, and I think LinkedIn profile is the place for you to claim it. I want you to have people lining up to work with you and what to do that you need to think about what do you need to walk away from in order to support the people that you know you were meant to support? So what do you think? Do you think it’s possible that one of the reasons that you’re not having maybe you’re having some success, but you’re not having the level of success that you want or you’re not moving forward? in the timeline you’ve laid out? Do you think maybe it’s because you’re holding on to something that you need to walk away from?

You know, I really think that, that that is one of the reasons why it took me 96 episodes of this podcast, to really step into my role as somebody that Can can serve more people when I have when i when i really claim my status and LinkedIn support for women, right for women influencers, I know that I can help more people because now now there’s a lot of people that help you with LinkedIn. And there’s people that do all kinds of things. And some of them I do and some of them I don’t do, right. I don’t do LinkedIn ads, I can support you. And I send you to AJ Wilcox. So we had on the show, and, you know, I don’t have a LinkedIn agency, at least not right now where we do the work for you.

So I knew I know the changes that my business so I went, I stayed focused on strategy. And I’m betting on the fact that when I really dive all in, in the next year, into supporting women around this, that I’m going to be able to support even more people, because now I’m also stepping away from the crowd of people that do LinkedIn strategy and saying You know, if you want to help these people are these people go for this is what I specialize in. And listen, I that doesn’t mean I’m not helping the men and it doesn’t mean I’m not helping you with corporate, I still can do those kinds of things. But when I’m getting a microphone in my hand and standing in front of an audience, chances are I’m going to be talking about LinkedIn for women influencers, or at least LinkedIn for influencers. Right?

And it see right there, I just qualified it again, right. It takes courage. It takes courage, because there’s people that pay me to do things. I’m writing a book right now that is, you know, that is about LinkedIn for influencers. And, you know, so yes, I think I can support women and that’s one piece of my business at but I have to step away from a lot of the other things that I’m doing in order to open up the space to open up that program. And that is, I think, in my case, why it took me so long to do that is walking away from some of the things I had to walk away from to make the space was scary, and I didn’t even really put those together until I saw that article recently, but it but it is the lesson that I teach when I talk about how important it is for you to understand who it is you’re looking to reach when you’re creating a brand that you want to, you know, the brand of you, right? Who is it that you want to be connecting with with that brand. So like I said, I’m doing this myself, I just rebranded my get linked up course tissues linked up. And we have men in that course and will continue to have men in that course. And I don’t really care what kind of body parts you have.

You’re welcome in the course, I don’t care how you identify, you’re welcome in the course. But I want women to know that it’s time for women to rise a little bit and understand that we, this is our playing field as well. And if we don’t step into the role that we’re meant to step into, and shine the light on that, which is what LinkedIn does for us more than all of the other platforms do. We’re going to be losing out on a lot of opportunities. So that’s my message to you. So let’s talk today about what things you can start doing right now. That might take a little courage that you might have to walk away from other things, to be able to fully support the things that you want to be able to fully support. And honestly, for me that comes down to thinking about who are your perfect people who are the perfect people to work with you, I have to tell you, when I stepped into this role of she’s linked up and I said I am I know exactly who my person is. Right. And I’ve talked about this a little bit on the show before I know exactly who my person is now, and I’m getting clearer and clearer on that person. The more work I do around this, the more they show up when I saw the names of the people that were the first people to get in the door for my she’s linked up program this week. I was blown away because they are all my perfect people.

They’re there, they’re right where I want them to be to it so that I know that they will be that they will take advantage. Best take advantage of this course. So I but I needed to be clear on that in my own head. Before I mean, maybe it’s the universe, maybe it’s, you know, marketing, maybe it’s my LinkedIn profile. Maybe it’s my Facebook ads, right, whatever. Or maybe it’s all of the above right? Before all of the above happened to make room for those people. But you have to be clear on who that is. So you so that’s one of the things that is actually, the very first thing we do in in any work that I do with anybody is who is your ideal client? Who is it that you want to be bringing into your world? Who is your ideal employer? Who is your ideal, what you know, whatever it is, you’re looking to link looking to LinkedIn to do? Who are the people that write about the kinds of things you do that you’d like to get, you know, you’d like to be writing about you who are the perfect ones who has the poor, the perfect podcast hosts that have podcasts that you would love to be a guest on. You need to identify all of that, so that you can open the path for them to come. And what that might mean is that you say no or you walk away from an opportunity to be a guest on a panel. podcasts that maybe isn’t that perfect fit for you. Because now your message is getting messed up. And you know, I don’t know,

if I interviewed Bonnie Frank a few weeks ago on this and Bonnie, I’m going to tag you on this because you know, and you might not even know the story. But a few years ago, I was doing a lot of work with social media and PR Christina David and I were doing a lot of work together. And I loved what we were doing. But it was a little chaotic from me from a branding standpoint, right. I had been doing LinkedIn work all along. And then some opportunities came up that Christina and I grabbed and I think in hindsight, maybe there were a little shiny object. And we, we ran with them. And we I think our programs were amazing. And the people that joined our program had a lot of success. But what was happening was my brand was getting money by all of it. And I was teaching i was i was originally known as a LinkedIn expert. And then I was teaching social media and I was focusing on PR, and I remember Bonnie tagged me in a post where she was talking about LinkedIn, and I jumped in, she was doing a live video and she was like, and you guys all need to know Karen Yankovich, which I’m Thank you so much, Bonnie for always shouting that out. If you’re looking at LinkedIn, and you know, I think she has some other stuff now, too. I think she’s doing some social media. Is that PR? I don’t know. I think she’s doing some work with realtors. Bonnie, my heart sank.

Because I I could hear in your voice, that confusion that I was putting out to the universe, okay, that I was putting out to you and to everybody that’s listening. And that might be one of the pivotal reasons that that, you know, Christine and I sat down and looked at it and said, Is this really serving us individually? Yes, it’s serving people. And we love that. But is it? Are we not serving the people we’re meant to serve? Because her expertise is PR my expertise is LinkedIn was all getting money. So by refocusing on LinkedIn and refocusing on my ideal clients, I am loving what I’m doing now. And not you know, not that I didn’t love what I I was doing them, but there was a lot of spinning wheels and a lot of, you know, a lot of chaos. I mean, there’s was trying to figure out what we should be doing and when we should be doing it. And it was, it was, you know, certainly we had a lot of clients coming in a lot of sales coming in. It just, it just muddied who I was that I wasn’t as successful. I wanted to be people didn’t know when to hand me a microphone and say, We need you on our stage because I did so many different things, right. And I that talking on speaking on stage, using LinkedIn to help me get those gigs is really important to me. So once I refocused on who I wanted to serve and how I wanted to serve them, my ideal client, right, everything started to shift in my business.

So 2018 I spent a lot of time rebuilding my foundation in 2019. I spent a lot of time blowing it up in 2020. I am nailing it down and blowing it up, right. Like that’s my plan. I want to serve, you know, thousands of women And support thousands of women in their LinkedIn profile, which is why we started rolling out things like the free LinkedIn profile challenge. You can check that out, by the way at LinkedIn profile challenge com, it is about to get shut down as I am recording this. So when you get there, you might get the waitlist, but don’t worry about it get on the waitlist, because we’re going to be rolling out again in a few months, and hopefully will continue to do it through 2020. So get yourself on the waitlist for that, because it is a free challenge we’ve had, I’ve gotten so many great accolades just from that. And really, it starts with me knowing exactly who to support and how to support them. So you’ll learn a little bit about that on the free challenge and in my programs as well. But the other thing about understanding who my ideal client is and how I want to serve them, feeds into being known just being known for something specific. Right. And I’ve said this on the show before when I was teaching social media in general, you know, and it comes back to I was lining up with all the other social media experts to get that speedos speaking engagements, right because somebody say I need a social media speaker and there’d be 50 6200 names thrown out. Now that I that I’m focusing on LinkedIn, and now that I’m focusing on LinkedIn for women, even more specifically, people are coming to me.

Okay. And this is why this is why it’s important to be known for something specific. But again, going back to Harriet Tubman, I had to walk away from the get seen be heard stuff, I had to walk away, even from a lot of the programs that I was doing in my own business, in order to make space for this space that I really wanted to walk into. And let me just tell you, the more women that I can serve in a powerful way, the more they’re changing the world and and it’s just that ripple effect, right? So but it has to start you have to start somewhere. And the last thing that I want to say about all of this is just get ready, because I’m telling you, amazing things will happen when you start finding the courage to walk away from the things that That, that, you know, are not serving you, but you’re still doing because let’s just get real, like, I, there are still things that I’m not ready to walk away from.

And I know that I’m probably going to have to, there are still things that I’m not ready to walk away from, to fully step into the role that I want to step into. And you know, for now, I have multiple streams of income. I hope you do too, right? And the LinkedIn for women, it’s just one of those streams of income. But as I peel away, the things I’m doing and the other places, the more This world is opening up for me, and the more perfect, amazing people are coming into my life. It is amazing to me the difference between having to chase people to come into my world and having to position myself and just build relationships with people and continually talking the talk and getting really clear on what it is I support and having them having them come to me now. is not a magic wand. Okay, I talked about my you know, my process is simple, it is not is not magic, right? You still have to do the work and I still do the work, I work a lot. But the beautiful thing is I’ve built this business to support the life that I want. And it’s, and I love that that is that I’m living that right now. So I hope that this makes

sense for you. And it wasn’t so much of a rant. You know, again, while I surely am not comparing working with people on LinkedIn to the work that Harriet Tubman did, I think that we can be inspired by the strong women of that, that, you know, that came before us and, and really look to the places where they found the courage to do the work that they did and look to find where is it that you need to find that courage? What is it that you need to give up in order to step into the role to support the exact perfect people that you want to support? I’ll be back talking about this. Because I actually have a whole process called my perfect people process that we’re going to talk about in at some point in the next few weeks. But for now, I want you to just start to think about, is it possible that what’s holding you back, or this is just the things that you’re comfortable with? Right?

It’s we get comfortable, we have $2,000 a month or $5,000 a month coming in from this revenue stream. If we walk away from that, what happens will we have set what will support us right? I don’t want you to be you know, jumping out of a plane without a parachute. But I do want you to consider that sometimes you need to just trust that the next step will be there for you and find out what that balance is for you. And I’m here to support you every step of the way. So again, we’re right smack in the middle of our new program being launched. She’s linked up you can check that out if you want to choose linked up com. I’d love to get you either into the challenge if you if you’re hearing this in time. LinkedIn profile challenge com we’ve got a few more days at that. Going but also get on the waitlist for it. I know we’re going to be doing it again in January 2020, you don’t want to miss it. We’ve had, you know, people have had I am blown away by what the roles that people are stepping into. And I think that the feedback that I’m getting is they’re blown away by what they’re seeing even for themselves. And I want that for you as well. Here’s the thing, a lot of that work is done up front, right.

So let’s do it together.

Let’s do it together, then we just incorporate these simple systems into your world, so that you are then building the business in the life of your dreams, and the next 12 months of your world. So remember, that’s, you know, always here to support you. That’s why I do this podcast, register for the waitlist for the LinkedIn profile challenge at LinkedIn profile challenge. com.
